Mpeg1 custom frame size

Hello,
I do a lot of videos or video presentations for sales type people to use within powerpoint files. I usually supply clients with WMV files using flip4mac, which works well.
Occasionally I see mpeg1 muxed movies that are more than the default 320x240 frame sizes. My question is 2 part - 1. Is there a quicktime/compressor way to do this? 2. Any thoughts on whether mpeg1 is a superior way to supply movies for things like inserting into powerpoint presentations?
Thanks
Pete

That's pretty much the frame size of a MPEG-1 file, 320x240. There's a MPEG-1 file called Super Video (CD) that uses MPEG-2 compression for the MPEG-1 file. I think the frame size is 480x360. The video quality is still garbage. The reason you still see MPEG-1 files is that the format is still popular in India and Indonesia.
Use h.264 for your presentation. If you use MPEG-1 you'll hate the quality.
Open that MPEG-1 you have in Quicktime and see what the inspector window tells you what the format is.

  • How do I set custom frame size in Premiere Pro 5.5 sequence.

    I need to set a custom frame size in Premiere Pro 5.5.

    If you realy feel 'lazy' or have no idea what settings to choose you can drag the clip the into the New Item icon. This will create a matching sequence.

  • UITableView with custom frame size within a UINavigationController... how?

    I've seen similar questions asked all over the web, but so far not a single "real" answer has cropped up, so hopefully you folks will know the way to do this.
    I have a main view that with a UIView subview, inside of which I am programmatically adding a UINavigationController and UITableView that is encapsulated in a +regular UIViewController+, to allow it to be pushed/popped onto the navigation controller. I'm essentially just trying to get a table+navcontroller combination that only takes up about half the screen height.
    The problem isn't that it doesn't work, because I have no problem getting the table and navigation controller working together as expected. The problem is that no matter what I do or try, I cannot get the table view to be smaller (in height), than full-size, meaning that when contained in this ~200px navcontroller-in-subview, there are a large number of rows the user cannot select because attempting to scroll to them immediately "bounces" back. You can see that the rows are there when you "pull" the scroll down, but can never get it to stay.
    As it appears, the table view is too large in height. I've gone as far as setting the table to a height of 10, to no avail. Autoresize masks have no effect.
    Please note that I'm NOT using an instance of UITableViewController, but rather the plain vanilla UIViewController, because creating an instance of the former automatically creates the underlying UITableView, which was always sized to large, as well. I had some advice that I should attempt creating the table and view controller independently, add the former to the latter and then push the view controller onto the navigation controller. Again, this does work, but the size is all out of whack.
    Finally, in quick psuedo-code, this is essentially what I'm doing:
    (this is found in MainViewController::viewDidLoad)
    CGRect frame = subviewContainer.frame;
    frame.size.height = 10;
    frame.origin.x = 0;
    frame.origin.y = 0;
    UITableView* table = [[UITableView alloc] initWithFrame:frame];
    table.autoresizesMask = UIViewAutoresizingNone;
    UIViewController* tVC = [[UIViewController alloc] init];
    tVC.view = table;
    UINavigationController* navC = [[UINavigationController alloc] initWithRootViewController:tVC];
    [subviewContainer addSubview:navC.view];
    Thanks for any tips you might have: this is quite the frustrating problem!

    I have an app that is absolutely kicking my butt. I have a UITabBarController that contains a UINavigationController that contains a custom UIViewController. When the user rotates the iPhone, I want to hide the navigation bar, hide the tab bar and swap out a UIImageView in the custom view controller and I want the image to be full-screen. I've figured out how to get rid of the navigation and tab bars, but making the UIImageView full-screen is what's killing me. When the image shows up, it is the size it would be if the tab bar was visible. In the didRotateFromInterfaceOrientation method, I hide the tab bar by doing:
    tabBar.hidden = YES;
    I've tried resizing the UIImageView by doing:
    img.frame = CGRectMake(0.0, 0.0, 320.0, 480.0);
    but that just screws up the image even more. I tried resizing the tabBarController's view, and I've tried resizing the current view, but alas to no avail.
    Can anyone help me not be stupid?
    Thanks!

  • 'Custom' frame size sequence displaying weirdly in full screen mode...

    I cutting an IMAX film, the frame is 1428 x 1050 (virtually 4:3 ratio). In ProRes it plays and works just fine on the timeline, proper proportions in the canvas and viewer windows ... and when I open it to full screen it works, proper proportions, as a 'still' image; but when I hit 'play' it pops into a 16:9 sort of frame ... the image squashed.
    This doesn't happen with an 'uncompressed' codec, only with ProRes.
    Is there any way I can set something in FCP to compensate for this? So it will actually play the custom frame in its proper proportions in a full screen mode?

  • Custom frame size

    I've been searching the net for an answer all day, but can't work it out.
    I'm trying to create a video with frame-output 288x364. When I save it, I get the correct size of frame, but the video is only shown i the middle of the frame - like it dosn't fit to the frame size. Can you help in anyway?
    I'm a rookie at this....! And Danish too, so excuse my poor English!

    So is this the best answer that we can come up with in four months?  That Premiere Elements can't work with some cameras, so you have to spend a lot more money for a better program?
    Let me put that sort of question another way:  When trying to render a project to an AVI file, Elements only gives me a choice of the 720 x 480 frame size.  In order to reduce the file size for uploading, I want to reduce it to a smaller frame size.  I'm not really picky about the exact size, but I was figuring around 420 x 320.  (And, as Kimdj said, I don't want to just reduce the viewable area, effectively cropping the video.  I want to take the whole frame and shrink it down.)
    I've been able to do this with other, older, cheaper video editing programs in the past (Pinnacle 8, Video Wave 4, and others), so I'm skeptical about claims that Premiere Elements can't handle the job, or that the camera I used is important (a simple Nikon Coolpix S550, for the record).
    So now that that the debate has been rephrased, does this spark anyone's creativity?
    Thanks in advance!

  • Do I need FC Pro for custom frame sizes?

    I recently purchased Final Cut Express HD for editing computer based software training videos. These videos are captured using Snapz Pro X2 at 1024x768 and will be played back on a computer at the same size, or reduced to 800x600. They won't be output to tape or DVD.
    I thought FCE HD would allow me to edit at 1024x768 resolution but I now it seems that isn't possible.
    Am I correct that FCE HD won't let me edit at the frame sizes I specified? Do I need Final Cut Pro 5?
    Thanks,
    Mythago
    Mac Mini (PowerPC 1.25)   Mac OS X (10.4.5)   1 GB RAM, 250GB Firewire External

    FCEHD will let you use QuickTime videos of different frame sizes, but it will only output in 720x480 (NTSC) or... whatever the PAL rez is.
    Keep in mind that your maximum resolution for DVD output is (essentially) 640x480 anyway, in square pixels. So, even if you were to edit in 1024x768, you will need to downsample it in order to get it on DVD.
    On other training videos, I've often seen them show the full screen for some parts, but then zoom in on the areas where they're doing action. That would definitely be possible in FCEHD. For the full screen shots, scale the computer screen image to fit in the frame. Then, when you need to show detail, cut the clip and scale it up to make it bigger, and center the action in the video frame.
    Look at some training DVD's by places like Digital Tree or someplace like that to get some ideas on how to do that. Hope that makes sense.

  • Custom Frame Size & Exporting to Flash

    I have a project that requires the final product to be a 600w x 200h FLV file.
    My content is basically two .mov files and an jpeg. The two .mov files are to be side by side ( split screen so to speak ) with the jpeg on top.
    My output panel looks great and everything seems to be perfect.
    However, when I go to export the file through Media Encoder. The final product is usually distorted. I definetely is of lower quality than inside the project.  i have tired a bit rate at around 2k. CTR and VTR encoding. etc, etc. Something is not adding up.
    Any suggestions on pre-setting the project or export settings?

    Premiere Elements is a video editing program and uses standard video aspect ratios: 4:3 and 16:9.
    You can output to any size or dimensions, but the project itself must be one of the standard video sizes in the preset pack.
    BTW, cropping in video is not the same as cropping a photo. When you crop a photo, you change its size and shape. When you crop a video, you only change the size and shape of the vide you're cropping. The size of the video frame itself does not change.
    In other words, if you create a project that's 720x480, add a video to it and crop the video down to 360x240 -- your video project is still 720x480. Your cropped video will just float inside that frame.

  • Custom video sizes?

    Where can I enter a custom frame size for a video project? I often work at non-standard aspect ratios (9x16, 32x9, etc.) Does FCPX support custom video sizes?

  • How do i change the frame size in FCX?

    I create short videos for an ecom website and and need the frame/canvas size to be vertical.  It was no problem in FC7, I'd just customize the frame size in the sequence settings.  There is no option in FCX that i can find.  Someone told me that apple was telling people to use one of the standard sizes and then export it in compressor using the correct size - that makes no sense, as i need to edit the videos in a vertical format, including cropping and keyframing, to make sure that the project stays centered.  Is there really no way to create a custom frame size?  im just thinking about all of those web banner videos out there, and how they can no longer be created in final cut...

    i actually initially tried this last week (creating a 'preset' in motion), and it basically 'works' but am i able to do everything with a compound clip that i can with a project?  It seems like a strange work around and are there any downfalls to editing using this workflow?
    the one thing i cant seem to do is select all of my compound clips from an event, and batch export them or send them simultaneousy to compressor.  will i need to export each clip separately?  that will tremendously effect our workflow as we generally take a batch of 50-60 movies and batch export them overnight.
    Also since most of the videos are shot similarly each day, we always use 'paste attributes' to apply all filters, size and movement - but i dont see anywhere to do this in FCX.  I see that i can copy and past individual attributes (a single color correction) but is it not possible to apply all of the characteristics of one clip to another?
    thanks for your help!

  • H.264 frame size limit?

    I'm trying to compress HD 1080/24p footage in Compressor 2.0.1, and the h.264 dialog box limits me to a max frame size of 720. Why no 1080? I can do 1080 MPEG-2. Is there a way around this?
    Thanks!
    G5   Mac OS X (10.4.6)

    Frank:
    Wellcome to the forum!
    the h.264 dialog box limits me to a max frame size of 720
    Are you trying to encode to H.264 for HD DVD or H.264 QuickTime Movie?
    Encoding H.264 as Quicktime Movie lets you gice your full custom frame size (go to Geometry icon), 1080 pixel aspect ratio, etc.
    Take any of the existing Web Download or Streaming (QT7), make a copy and change the Geometry settings as you want.
    Hope it helps!

  • Customizing video frame size

    I have to produce a video for a web site and the webmaster tells me my video must be 181x121 (height x width). If I simply resize or scale my finished video (which is 480x720), everything looks distorted.
    Is there a way to crop the video frame size to exactly 181x121 ? I realize I will be throwing away some content, but that's okay.
    Thanks and regards,
    Warren

    There is no way to do that in FCE without a third party compressor.
    You can do it with a work-around using Photoshop or Photoshop Elements. You them to create a multilayer image in the size you want. Import the image, which will come in as sequence. Place your edited video inside the sequence. It will probably scale to fit the screen. Scale it up and adjust the position to fit the frame the way you want it. Export it without rendering may save a recompression cycle.

  • AV output and non-standard frame sizes

    I usually work in non-standard frame size for my FCP projects because my final output will be in a 2:35:1 ratio. I use a Blackmagic Ultrastudio Mini Monitor as an HDMI output to a client monitor. Up until a few months ago the AV output of FCPX would allow the Mini Monitor to accept a frame size of 1920x818 and letterbox the output to 16x9 on this consumer grade LCD. One day, this just stopped working... I've reached out to Blackmagic and they have no solution or reason why this happened, and are not willing to offer support since what I was achieving wasn't an "officially supported" feature. Now, the AV output will distort the image vertically to fill a 16x9 frame. At this point I am stuck having to use either a matte layer or a widescreen effect on individual clips to output correctly to my monitor which increases edit time having to re-render any edits underneath the matte and having to re-order the letterbox effect after apply color correction etc. It was also very easy to adjust the frame offset with this wide angle project size.
    Is anyone editing in 2:35:1 (or other cinema standard) projects and getting successful conversion on output? What are you using?
    Cheers,
    Matt

    Thanks Tom, you clarified it .......  or at least something clicked in my brain.
    I was trying to set "Custom" when I created the new project.
    I didn't know, or had forgotten, that in the "error" window I could select "Custom".
    All is now well and FCP X 10.1.1 is pretty clever after all!
    There is one weird thing I'd like to mention.
    When I clicked on "Custom" the 960 x 600  frame dimensions appeared but the  frame rate was listed as 23.98p as shown in the screenshot below.
    So what's wrong with that?
    Well the clip is 30p  and I naturally thought I was going to end up with a project with an incorrect frame rate.
    Now here's the funny thing  .........  when I selected the project and viewed it in the Inspector it was the correct 30p
    So why was I given that worrying piece of misinformation.

  • How to render a video from image sequence with custom frame rate?

    Dear all,
    For a project i would like to create a video from 47 images with a custom frame rate. To achieve this i take the following steps in Photoshop CS6 extended:
    1) File -> Open...
    2) Select the first image and select " image sequence ". All images have the same size (1280 x 1261 px) and are numbered correctly.
    3) Click open
    4) Frame Rate: Custom 3 fps
    5) File -> Export -> Render Video... -> Render
    6) Play the video with VLC. The video shows a still image of the first image.
    If i choose a frame rate of 10 fps, then there is no problem. VLC plays the video as expected.
    Is there a other way to create a video from 47 images and choose a custom frame rate? Or what am i doing wrong?
