MPEG2 Asset from Compressor is blank/black

Hi Mac fans,
I have a horrible problem with DVD Studio Pro 4 (DSP4 hereafter). After I encode a Final Cut Pro sequence with Compressor using the 90 mins best DVD preset, I import it into DSP4 via the Assets tab. The audio ac3 file works fine but the video m2v file comes out black. I have tried doing this twice now. I can play the file in Quicktime (although it takes a while to load for some reason unknown to me).
There are some other sequences using shorter portions of the same footage that have successfully imported (only on the third attempt at encoding in Compressor) after some color correction in Color. Problems I had during the failed attempts include: the black screen, a green screen, files not even being allowed to import.
I have tried, to make sure the file opens with Quicktime by default and this has not changed my problem.
I can't seem to figure this one out and can't complete this DVD until this problem is solved. I have spent many many days reencoding the same sequences. It's crazy.

Oh my,
even the file without the in and out points seems to be working.
The only thing I can think of is that under the "General" tab in Preferences, I switched the "Display Mode" to 16:9 pan and scan but I have changed it back to 16:9 letterbox and all seems to be working.
DVDSP is seeming pretty volatile and unreliable unless I am missing something (which is very possible).

I have just upgraded laptops and operating systems moving from Snow Leopard to Lion. I am attempting to scan text documents using Preview in Lion as I had done before using Snow Leopard. I am using the same printer/copier/scanner, HP Photosmart C5280, but am encountering different results. When I scanned documents from my previous MacBook using Snow Leopard, I achieved the desired pdf document results. However, when I scan the same document using my new MacBook Air and OS X Lion, the document saves as a blank/black pdf. Does anyone have any idea why this is occurring?
Any help is greatly appreciated.

Unfortunately, I ran Software Update and also referenced the HP site to determine the driver for Lion. My driver is up-to-date and no software updates are available.

Imported asset from Compressor with chapter markers- Now what?

I put chapter markers in (Compressor) before submitting in Compressor. I have opened DVDPro and imported the asset which is divided up into 6 chapters. I want each chapter to have a button. I have a template I have chosen with 8 buttons and deleted two of them. How do I activate those buttons according to the chapter breaks? I feel I am close... Thanks!

Crap results from Compressor?
Okay, I've been pulling my hair out for a week now. All I can manage is really crap MPEG2 encodes from Compressor.
They look blocky, their is 'line twitter' 'artifacting' and other crap in the picture.
I'm a fussy bugger, but this is ridiculous; Compressor is just doing a really crap job no matter how I set it up.
If anyone can recommend an ultimate Compressor setting or even a Superior encoding programme (I've tried Episode Pro and that ***** too) I'd really appreciate it as I must get this job signed off and back the client now.
I'm using native 1080p/25p footage from Sony XDCAM HD camcorders set at highest quality 35Mbps HQ HD setting.
In FCP it is being edited natively at the same 1080p/25p settings, then saved as a 'reference movie' then I open Compressor and bring that 'reference' movie in.
Oh, I've tried exporting directly from FCP to Compressor, but I have no idea where Compressor is putting the final files when it has finished encoding them, I've looked everywhere and can't find where Compressor is sticking them, hence I have to make a reference movie in FCP and work with that.
In Compressor my settings are as follows:
Best Quality: 90 Mins 16:9.
Two Pass VBR Best.
Open GOP at 6 frames.
Average bitrate: 7.5 with max at 8.2.
GOP Structure: IP.
Gamma filter: 1.1.
I've watched the DVD called "The Art of Encoding Using Compressor" from Ripple Training and have tried all their settings too; but no matter what I do, the results suck; big time.
There are artifacts, blocking, line-twitter and on one panning shot of a glider landing the grass is simply a total mess of motion artifacts and is hardly even recognizable as actual grass.
I've tried loads of combination of GOP being Open, Closed, different bitrates with averages from 3 to 6, different GOP structures of IP. IPB... etc and nothing will render me a nice clean MPEG2 file that is razor sharp with zero artifacting.
I'm about to give up on Compressor totally; unless somebody can point out if I'm just missing something here.
Perhaps Compressor just hates XDCAM HD footage?
Maybe Compressor just can't downconvert from HD to SD without totally screwing it up?
Any suggestions greatly appreciated guys as this (as you can get from my tone) is really getting me down now.
All this was shot on a camera/lens combo that cost over £20,000, but by the time Compressor screws it up it looks like a cheap £1000 camera from the local electrical store.

This thread relates to HDV, but maybe some of the issues are the same. Some people have claimed there's a field order problem which, if true and if applicable to your case, might be causing some of your problems.

On a Mac, I can right click if the option is available and download to downloads and open that way but I can't click on a link that is a pdf and it open. It loads a blank black page. Am I missing a plug in? What? IT is driving me crazy.

Try searching for the name of one of your videos on the iPad's spotlight search screen - swipe your first homescreen to the right, type in it's name, and if it finds it tap on it to see if it plays.
If that doesn't work then I normally suggest closing the Videos app via the taskbar and re-opening it, and then a reset by pressing and holding both the sleep and home buttons for about 10 to 15 seconds unilt the Apple logo should appear - but as it sounds like you've alreadt tried that, then see if the spotlight search works.

Sorry, you have lost me since it appears that you have two completely separate issues here.
All that I can suggest is you start over and try to set up the Time Capsule again first...and then, once that is done and the Time Capsule is working correctly on the network....then, try to troubleshoot the separate Time Machine issue.
If you decide that you want to do this, we'll need some basic information:
Make and model number of your modem?
You are using OS X Mavericks (10.9.3), correct?

Hi! I'm in need of help I've been trying to export this video to media encoder for about 20days now. I'm working with premiere pro cs5.5 and after effects cs5.5-
Dynamic link, I've updated the two and everything, every time I try to export my video half willl export and I believe after effects crashes and thats when the other
half of the video goes blank/black, this happens everytime, it's very frustrating and I don't know what is causing this. it actually just started.
it also does this on cs5 as well.

Have you checked the output in AME? I always check that before I hit go to make sure that I haven't fouled something up and that the in and out points are what I want. I spot check all along the timeline.
I'm thinking that you have some parts of the Premiere Pro project that are shots or sequences that have been "Replaced with After Effects Composotion." If this is the case, does the blackness happen in one of these shots? If it does I'd suggest trying to render that shot in AE and replace it in the PPro Timeline. If After Effects is really crashing you'll be able to find out why.
A little more detail about your project would also help.

If you are running Mac OS X 10.7.3 then you have Lion installed, not Snow Leopard. It's probably not important to this discussion, but something you should be aware of.
What application are you printing the PDF files from? Have you tried opening the PDF file using the Preview application that can be found in the Applications folder? Does the issue still occur? Have you tried other PDF files from a different source?
Another poster in the following discussion thread reported that this method resolved their black blank PDF issue when viewing (and presumably printing) PDF files from Safari.

There's a solution if you want to see the PDF inside Safari's window :
Go to the folder : Your Hard Drive / Library / Internet Plug-ins.
If you see a file with PDF in its name drag it to the trash.
Quit and restart Safari to test with a PDF.
If it works you can empty the trash.

Ipod Touch 4th generation 32G not turning on, not charging.
I have used multiple cords on both computer USB and wall USB converters. I let it sit there for over 20 min with each attempt.
It is not being detected by Itunes or my Windows 7 64bit OS. I have tried all 4 of my USB ports (both USB 2.0 and 3.0), with 3 different chargers.
Holding home and power button will not reset.
Tried taking it out of "DFU" mode but Itunes won't detect it, I didn't think that would work anyway.
NO DAMAGE, I have been very careful with it, aside from a few minor scratches. (that you can't even see unless the light reflects them)
My Itunes is up to date, as is my OS.
All I'm getting is a blank black screen. It has been working fine on this computer before. I have no idea what could have happened. I'm at my wits end here.

- Also try DFU mode after try recovery mode

- If not successful and you can't fully turn the iOS device fully off, let the battery fully drain. After charging for an least an hour try the above again.
- Try another cable
- Try on another computer
- If still not successful that usually indicates a hardware problem and an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store is in order.

Blank Black Screen installing Windows XP Pro SP2 Retail with Boot Camp

I am using BootCamp Assistant (3.0.2) to install WindowsXP_SP2_ProRetail on my MacBook Pro 15inch
Mid2009 (10.6.4) plus all the latest updates.
I have no problems creating partitions ranging from 5GB to more than half my HDD of 500GB....but
nothing but one problem when I get to Step 3 of the BootCamp Installation & Setup Guide, page 7:
To install Windows on your Mac computer:
1 a... Open Boot Camp Assistant
b... Select 'Start Windows installer'
c... Click Continue
2..... Insert your Windows installation disc
3..... In Boot Camp Assistant, click Start Installation
Your computer starts up from the Windows installation disc
That's as far as I get! First a Gong sound then the gray screen appears and afterwards the screen turns BLACK. After a short while the optical drive starts up and is quite active with either searching
or scanning back and forth for about 5 minutes. Then all activity stops and finally the computer stops
2 minutes later. Interestingly the keyboard was never lit and none of the keys responded to my de-
pressions. I also noticed the aluminum case near the display pivot edge get quite warm probably due
to the black screen so I decided to press the power-off key.
I restarted the computer and held the option key depressed, selected the Macintosh HD icon and pro-
ceeded to the Logs (system.log & the windowserver.log) for any entries about the windows installer
and the optical drive operations....Nothing, nothing! Then I checked the BootCamp HD with Finder,
nothing, -> 0 items were loaded!
I feel at a loss what to do next??? I even ran Techtooldeluxe diagnostic utility from AppleCare, every-

Now I had Windows installed successfully when I first had bought my MBP 15 last year. Then I decided
to play around with Parallel Desktop 5, didn't like it and tried to return to Windows and ever since that
time I was not able to install Windows XP. I decided to reinstall OSX to Factory Conditions, did the
7-pass erase for secure delete, installed OSX again without any problems. But Windows still won't in-
stall, get that Blank Black Screen, no cursors!
Perhaps something slipped in with soft- or firmware upgrades for the Graphic/Display 'Nvidia GeForce
9400M that won't let windows installer function properly?
Just for kicks I reinstalled Parallel Desktop 5 and Win/XP installed without any problems.
The Apple Experts in CA couldn't help me either. Now I had hoped there might be a solution to this
problem at this time?!
I like my MBP very much and I might convert to OSX and it's applications if I can't get an answer to my
problem. I still don't like to give up though and would like to pursue this problem with more diagnostic aids from Tech Support. I know there a lot of OPEN incidents on this particular problem!
If this really is a Windows Installer failure, why does it work with Parallel Desktop 5, there is no BOOT

IOS app rejected due to a blank, black screen upon launch

I recently got my iPhone app rejected and the reason is below:
"We found that your app exhibited one or more bugs, when reviewed on iPhone 5 running iOS 6.1.3, on both Wi-Fi and cellular networks, which is not in compliance with the App Store Review Guidelines.
Specifically, the app displayed a blank, black screen upon launch. Please see the attached screenshot/s for more information.
The steps to reproduce are:
1. Launch app
2. Bug encountered"
I use FlashDevelop and the latest Apache Flex + Air SDK 3.7 + swfversion=20. I don't have an iPhone 5 to test on but I've tested the application on a 3GS, iPod touch (4th gen.) on IOS 4.3, 5.1 and 6.1.3 (latest) and the application works on all of them.

the "blank" screen is actually a deep blue one, which the color I've set to my project's background.
I didn't make any special modifications in the code to support iPhone 5 to be honest, and the project dimensions were set to 640x960, but I did include the [email protected], and it shows inside the .ipa at Payload/Myapp.app/
In almost all the iPhone 5 discussions I've read online, theat launch problem is due to the [email protected] not being there in the root of the release .ipa, but I'm sure it does exist on my ipa. Also, I have request high resolution set to high, and the Info.plist has the correct DTPlatformVersion (6.0) and DTSDKName (iphoneos6.0).
Any ideas what the problem could be?

Remember - they gave you a very specific device and version. It might be working on all other configurations. So if you are unable to get your hands on that device and version you are going to be left stabbing in the dark as to what is going wrong.
My advice would just be to figure out what's different with that device and make sure everything is configured properly.
Another option - if you don't want this app on the iPad anyway - is to remove it from the configuration:

to use the position tool press P, and then press A again to go back to the normal tool.
Alternatives:
1. You can also right click and replace an existing clip with a gap by selecting "replace with gap"
2. You can insert a Solid>Custom clip from the media generator on the right.

Importing from Compressor

This may seem stupid, but how do you import a FCP project from compressor into DVD Studio Pro?

When compressor is finished, you will get a movie file (mpeg2) and 1 or 2 soundtracks (aiff and/or dolby) on your desktop or whatever destination you specified.
Open DVD SP and drag the files onto the menu pane.
