MPEG2 conversion to .mov

I got MPEG2 Works 4 Advanced to convert my .TOD files from my Everio camcorder. I needed to do this so that the clips could be manipulated with iMovie. All seemed fine, except the converted files (now .mov) have an intermittent shake of the frame. The original, pre-conversions clip plays without the shake. Can anyone point to the right direction to a remedy. I would appreciate it immensely, as I have been struggling with this for the past few days.

That's not a big file but for some reason it's taking long to load. I've seen so >many clips online that just play right away and they seam long. What am I >doing incorrect when I exported to Quicktime?
Use QuickTime Pro and encode video with H.264. Take a look at this post and look for 'Fast-Start.'

  • Problems operating Quicktime MPEG2 conversion

    Hi there,
I have copied my friend's sd card with his movie files which are .MOD and .MOI files which I understand are mpeg2 format. I have therefore downloaded the program "Quicktime MPEG2 conversion for OSX" but cannot see how to use it. I thought that it may have acted as a patch or upgrade with Quicktime but this is not immediately evident.
    Would dearly love some help.
    Justin

Mpeg 2 is the standard DVD delivery format, not intended for further editing.
You need to convert the mpeg2 files back to DV which iMovie is designed to handle. For that you need mpegStreamclip:
    http://www.apple.com/downloads/macosx/video/mpegstreamclip.html
which is free, but you must also have the Apple mpeg2 plugin :
    http://www.apple.com/quicktime/mpeg2/
    which is a mere $20.

  • Batch conversion of MOV files for use in PPro Windows

I have PPro CS3 on Windows XP (the OS is more relevent to the question than the software version, I think).  I have been buying some inexpensive stock footage, and the HD/SD libraries they have been offering lately come as MOV files with apple-flavored codecs, if you know what I mean.  Fortunately PPro has been able to open everything I have tried so far, but of course they have to be rendered.  And results in player software (for previewing clips) varies by frame size and whether the clip has audio (most don't, but a few do), and not being able to see thumbnails in Windows hampers my speed in selecting clips, especially since the files came named "1.mov", "2.mov", etc. (yeah, I'll eventually rename them to something useful).  So I would like to just convert them all to AVIs with the Microsoft DV codec, so that they will play natively in PPro without rendering.  I know I could use PPro to do the conversion (put them all on a timeline and do Export Movie one at a time), but I was hoping for a batch solution.  I've downloaded and installed a number of free converter programs, but nothing seems to be able to output in the Microsoft DV codec.
Some of the files are HD (1920x1080), some are SD 16:9 that were reduced from those HD clips, and some are original SD 4:3.  The codec for the HD ones is reported by GSpot to be "Apple Photo JPEG", and the SD ones use something simply called "dvc" or "DV".  Noting the similarity of the name "DV", I did try just telling the conversion program to leave the video stream alone and just change the wrapper from MOV to AVI.  WMP and Windows' thumbnail generator seem to understand the resulting file, but PPro shows colored noise - so much for that idea.
    Any suggestions are welcome!

For my conversions, I use DigitalMedia Converter 2.7, and it does batch conversion very well. Now for the caveat (you knew one was coming, right?), Deskshare has introduced "new and improved" software, but I have not tried it yet. I do not know how it will handle your footage, so the trial might be in order.
    Good luck,

  • DV to MPEG2 Conversion

    Hi all,
I have a number of home videos that I have created with iMovie in DV format. I am looking to archive these in a high-quality, but compressed, format -- preferably MPEG2. This is "DVD Quality" and I'd like to keep something at around this quality level or better.
How can I convert DV files to MPEG2 easily, and without paying an arm and a leg? (I'm thinking of a $25-$30 budget, if possible) Free is even better! Will Quicktime Pro allow me to open the DV files, then save as MPEG2? Any other suggested software? I've already purchased the Apple MPEG Playback module.
My second and related question is if any of other "standard" file formats which iMovie exports to are at the same/better quality as MPEG2 with similar compression. I'm not stuck on MPEG2, but I'm confused by the long list of iMovie export formats and options (under Format : Expert Settings).
Ultimately, I prefer MPEG2, as this is the format in which I've archived all of my other home videos (this was very easy to do on my PC, pre-switch to Mac).
    Thanks very much in advance,
    Tim

your version of iM supports the export to h264...
    share/Quicktime/Expert Options
    hit the button..
new dialog, looking like this (yours in English... for sure:)
in the drop down, YOU should find h264 as an option (me not, I'm still with QT6...)
h264 conversion needs a lot of computation, esp. for encoding.. your Mac has enough muscles.. , but it will not be done in "realtime".. that needs some überMacs...
DV=>mpeg2.. follow Matti's advice: use iDVD to create an .img (image, not disk) of your project; get Apple mpeg2 plugin (29$) + Streamclip (free); "convert" .vob into .mp2 .. I've done that, time consuming (see my antiqué hardware...), but working.. "poor man's Compressor" (Compressor is the ... ehm, compressor as part of the FinalCutProductionSuite, which offers a direct DV=>mp2 conversion, $$$$)
long term saving? TAPES!!! they have a proofen track-record of ~50 years.. my first homebrewn DVDs, 4y ago, are mostly "broken"... they improved the -r media meanwhile...

  • Quicktime MV2 (mpeg2) conversion problem

After installing final cut pro 5 the mpeg2 codec won't show up in codec list when trying to export via Quicktime no matter what I try.
Have had same problem on other systems.
Have even tried installing codec seperately but to no avail.
Compressor is fine but also want use of QT conversion.
    Can anyone help please?????

When you upgrade QT to (I think) version 7.1.x it disables the feature. If you stick with version 7.0.x it retains the feature if you previously had it. I think the feature was provided in version 6.5.2 so you need to have had that version on your system and upgraded, but not beyond 7.0.x
Apple says you don't need the feature any more because you have Compressor.

  • Conversion mp4, mov

i have a zen vision (NOT the M version) and i have some videos i want to transfer

is that what you are talkin about?
    Yes.
Like I said, using ZENcast in the past, whenever I've uploaded mp4 to my ZVW, it took longer to transfer as it required time to convert to avi. Unless creative's products get an firmware upgrade to work in conjunction with apple product formats, creative mp3s cannot read mp4 (my ZVW won't run them, and at that, there's no firmware upgrades avail on vista).

  • MPEG2 conversion

I have been trying to convert from the Telestream format files (which are MPEG2) to something that my Final Cut Pro can playback, such as Quick Time. However, even Compressor cannot seem to do this. Are Telestream files unable to be converted to a format for playout on Final Cut? I am hoping they are not protected by some sort of encoding that is unique to their company.
Eventually I will want to play out and record onto my digital betacam deck, which is why I must use Final Cut Pro and my Blackmagic video card.
For now I can only play the MPEG2 Telestream files on the Mac, using the VLC Player. Any suggestions? (either for playing out from Final Cut Pro or possibly using VLC in conjunction with the video card).
Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks for the response. I tried MPEG Streamclip but still no luck... I am thinking that these Telestream files are protected somehow.
If I use VLC Player, do you happen to know how to get video playing out from my Blackmagic video card?

  • NTSC MPEG2 conversion to PAL MPEG2

I have 10 NTSC wedding dvds which I want to convert to PAL dvds. I don't have the original dv files, just the finished dvds. I want to be able to view my made in Canada dvds in India. Is it possible to do this?
I know that some dvd players will play both pal and ntsc, but i don't know if my relatives have this type of player.
Is there an easy way to do the conversion or should i just tell my relatives to get a ntsc/pal dvd player?

  • Windows VOD or MPEG2 conversion to Quick Time

I need help figuring out how to get a VOD or MPEG2 converted so that QT folks can enjoy the video and audio for my products.
I create DVD videos and I use Nero to create them. I can use Nero to export the videos to MPEG2, but when I pull them into QT 7 Pro with component package, they do not accept the MUX situation.
How can I solve this problem? I have QT clients that would like to see the videos online via net, but I cannot get audio incorporated.

How are you "sharing" your MPEG-2 files?
Are the DVD's you use not "encrypted" (CSS)?
Windows users should use MPEG Streamclip (free) and the Apple MPEG-2 Playback Component ($20) to convert from MPEG-2 (VOB) to QuickTime formats.

  • .WMV conversion to .mov to work in FCP

I just had a client send me a .WMV file and I obviously can't pull it into FCP. Is there a way to convert it to a quicktime format? I hope this is enough info.

Which version did you download? The Studio version has much more functionality than the Player and PlayerPro versions. This page describes differences: http://www.flip4mac.com/wmv.htm
And here's the Data Sheet on all versions (see page 2): http://www.flip4mac.com/pdfs/datflip4macwmv.pdf
Use the version appropriate to your needs.

  • Mobile video only playing through headphones from 5D MKIII .MOV mp4 conversion

I have not run into something like this before and hope that someone has...
I have been capturing video with a 5D MKIII for a while now and create videos for work and upload to YouTube and mobile platforms. Someone recently told me that through the YouTube app, these videos (this one for example: Hail Recovery in V12 Corn - YouTube) will play fine on computer browsers and on a mobile device through headphones. When you try to play through the YouTube app without headphones, this video will play only garbled sound and very quietly.
I have traced the problem to the 5D MKIII video capture, as capture with a canon XF105 doesn't have the issue (after AME conversion to mp4) on upload or playing directly from a mobile device or streaming from something like Dropbox.
I'm not sure what to check now. I have tried almost every conceivable export choice and setting through AME CC2014 (and tried CC as well). I have tried this through my laptop and another machine on the same software set. I have tried exporting just the MP3 and listening via dropbox (same issue - sound garbled and quiet). I have tried W/O Quicktime installed on machine (thinking there might be an issue with the AME QT and the local QT. I have tried taking the .MOV file direct from the camera and creating a .AVI and MXF file and then used those in editing and export to MP4. None of these things have changed the outcome.
    The things I know are:
    - only happens from DSLR not other captures (like XF105)
    - only happens to sound trying to come through mobile device speaker (works with headphones) - I have checked the various 'mute' settings on all mobile devices i've used and this isn't the issue. I have tried Samsung, iPhone and iPad all with the same result
    - audio plays normally through computer browsers and through mobile device headphones
If anyone has had this experience please let me know. This is very problematic as we have transitioned to using DSLR for most video now. It seems to be something with streaming but it also happens when I take the file (from the camera > mp4 or after editing in Premiere/AE > mp4) and play direct from the device. It must be something with the conversion from .MOV to mp4 but what?
Thanks in advance for any insights.

  • QUALITY -  .MOVs  to Encore, but video quality horrible -- DVD

    Hello,
I am a newbie to Encore and video processing, alike - I'm hoping that someone can enlighten me in the ways of High Definition/working with conversion to DVD in Encore.
I'm currently working on making a DVD with a main menu which links to a main feature, Previews, Contact screen and chapters. All of the items for these categories were originally .SWFs and have been converted to .MOVs (using the Moyea SWF to Video pluggin). Not sure if that makes a difference, but the DVD has been completed without any problems, works well in the preview, comes out in the specified 16:9 ratio and links properly. Here is where I feel like I'm walking around in smoke: I would like to build to DVD so that it can be viewed on the Computer as well as TV. But I really want High grade quality video. It seems to me that their was a slight loss of quality from .Swf to .MOV, so I've tried experimenting with everything from the Encore Settings, reading numerous posts on this site and using different conversion formats (MOV, AVI and VOB). I loved the quality when I took the .SWFs to .VOB (however Encore still transcoded and in the end I lost the amazing clarity). After building, when I play the DVD on the computer the quality is a bit hazey (even exchanging the .VOBs for .MOVs.) As of now, my setting are as follows:
    PROJECT TRANSCODE PRESETS:
    MPEG2-DVD
High quality, VBR transcoding for progressive-frame content (max bit rate =9)
25 fps (the .swfs were built at 24 fps - does this matter?)
    quality 5.0
    192 kbps, 48kHz, Dolby Digital
VBR, 2 Pass, Min 1.50, target 7.00, Max. 9.00 mbps
    Field order: none (progressive
    16:9
    min bitrate: 1.5
    target bitrate: 7
    Max bitrate: 9
    M frames: 3
    N Frames: 12
Video Noise Reduction has been checked and pushed to 100
    Deinterlaced was also checked
    (what am I doing wrong?)
Right now, I'm so determined to get the best quality - So, I've begun exporting the entire Encore project to .SWF to see if this will do the trick. In the meantime, how can I build to DVD with the highest quality possible?
    Than you all in advance.
    AC

This is correct, the .swf/.flv files are so compressed that you will only retain the quality of the origional file at best. I've tried this for months and about a Terabyte of files and have found only 1 way to get a good quality DVD from an .flv/.swf.
Connect 1 computer to a TV to play the .swf/.flv. Connect the out connector from the TV to another computer with Premiere installed via the graphics card and then capture the video as it is playing in premiere in the highest quality you can. This can make 30 minutes of compressed .swf into a 10+GB DVD video file. Then after capture, edit and send/export to Encore, make your DVD and then encode like normal.
This has been the highest quality DVD from .swf/.flv that I have been able to achieve.

  • IMovie Crashes when I try to import a movie file

I am trying to import an MPEG-2 file into iMovie. However, whenever I bring up the import window, as soon as I begin scrolling through my file, iMovie freezes up and has to be shut down. I can't even get to the point where I can TRY to upload it.
    What is going on?

I have no idea, but same thing happens to me. I'm on a G5 with Tiger. Here is my work-around.
    1. If you don't have this application, you can download it free. It is called MPEG Streamclip. Google search this name to find the home page (it has been so long since I've downloaded this app I can't provide you with a link).
With this application you can convert the MPEG2 files to .mov files (or just about anything else), at which point the import should be easy. However, be aware that the file conversion process is lengthy, so set the conversion up to run overnight.
In my case, the MPEG2 files are coming from an older HD/SD JVC camera, or a newer JVC camera that records files in a .tod format. I don't know whether Apple neglected JVC or JVC neglected Apple. Just to get started I have to transfer the camera files into a disk image, which iMovie recognizes as a camera. Unfortunately, my G5 immediately freezes upon my import command, and I have to hold the power switch down to initiate a shutdown.
