MPEG2 Playback error

I just got the MPEG Streamclip and the MPEG2 Playback so I try to import the video from my homemade dvd to DV, I'm able to see the video on the streamclip but at the time of convertion it give tells me Error: import to dv failier
even if I try to transfer it to MPEG it gives me the error messege
Am I doing something wrong or did I skip a step?

JLGPro,
Here's the easiest way. Double click the DVD icon on your desktop. Then Double click on the VIDEO_TS Folder. Switch to "list view" if you haven't already. You'll need to "import" all the .VOB files into iMovie - but here's the catch - you won't hear anything. The muxed sound won't play in iMovie. But don't worry.
Although I don't know what you want to do with importing your home made DVD into iMovie, that being said, the best way is to drag and drop one VOB file at a time right on a Clip Pane. It usually takes from 10-20 minutes for the file to load into iMovie - depends on the file's size. After that one file has loaded into iMovie's Clips Pane - Save. Then launch MPEG StreamClip. Drag and drop the identical VOB file from your DVD into MPEG StreamClip's window. It will ask you if you want to open all files or just one. Click "just one". Example: VTS011.VOB. (Don't worry about the IFO or the BUP files - ignore them.) Then you want to choose FILE, then click on "Demux to AIFF". Save it on your desktop. It will show up as either an audio iTunes aiff file or a QT aiff file - it doesn't matter which, your Mac will be able to play it. Example: VTS011.aiff.
[For organization's sake, create a new untitled folder on your desktop. You can store your audio files there one by one after you have dropped them in iMovie. Then when you're completely finished - trash the audio files. This way if you screw up along the way, you'll still have the audio files in the untitled folder instead of all over your desktop. You could set up the untitled folder from the start and demux aiff from MPEG StreamClip then save to the untitled folder if you want.]
ReLaunch iMovie, if you've closed it. Click on the video file in the Clips Pane to select it and copy. (Command+C) Click in the iMovie clip viewer and paste (Command+V) - Save. (Your video clip will be in the Clip viewer and the Clips Pane - again, if you mess up, you'll still have the original video clip in the Pane to use again.) Then switch to timeline viewer.
Slide iMovie window over and find the aiff sound file on your desktop. Drag it to the timeline's audio section. After it loads, Save and then make sure it is exactly lined up with the video. Save. Click audio to select it. Put Playhead at or near the beginning of the sound file. Then choose Advanced and click "Lock Audio at Playhead". Save. Play the video and make sure the sound is in sync. (Although you shouldn't have to - if needed - adjust the audio left or right until it is in sync.) Save. Move the aiff audio file on your desktop to the untitled folder.
Drag & Drop (or import) the next VOB file into the iMovie Clips Pane. Save. Example: VTS012.VOB.
Relaunch MPEG StreamClip if you've closed it, then drag and drop the next VOB file onto MPEG StreamClip's window. Example: VTS012.VOB. Repeat what you did with the first one: choose FILE then Demux to AIFF - save on desktop or untitled folder. Go back to iMovie and copy the next video clip in the Pane then paste it in the Clip Viewer. Save. (Now you have 2 clips side by side in the viewer) Switch to the video timeline viewer and drag & drop the VTS012.aiff sound file into the sound area in iMovie. Line up exactly with the video clip and Save. Play to check the sound is in sync. Adjust if necessary. Save. Click sound file to select, move playhead near or at the start of the audio file and choose Advanced then click on "Lock Audio Clip at Playhead". Move the aiff sound file on your desktop into the untitled folder. Then continue this procedure until all the VTS.VOB video and demuxed aiff audio files are in iMovie. Now you're entire DVD is in iMovie and ready to be edited. If that's what you want to do. Adjust the sound volume, add sounds or music. Delete parts of the video. Add transitions, titles, effects, etc.
NOTE: If you have a header - a Title File - then you will have to drag & drop that into iMovie's Clips Pane also, then copy and paste into the video clip viewer. You should do that first. If the header has sound, you'll have to drag and drop that Title VOB file into MPEG StreamClip's window and demux the sound to aiff also, then drag and drop it into iMovie. The header or Title file on the DVD is: VIDEO_TS.VOB.
Another way is to use MPEG StreamClip to import your entire DVD. Then you have to export sections (about 4 per hour) to DV. (Each will be a QT .dv file) Then drag and drop the DV file into iMovie's Clips Pane. Copy, then paste into the Clip viewer. Doing it this way, the sound will be okay in iMovie. But it's easy to screw up when exporting several DV files from MPEG StreamClip. The most common problem is that you miss a tiny fraction of the original DVD. And if you export by overlapping, so you don't leave out any video, you then have to edit each video clip in iMovie to delete the overlapped sessions. I find this method more time consuming and easier to mess up. But if you would rather do it this way, put in a reply and I will post step by step directions in another reply.
Good Luck and take care,
JAM
P.S. This is what the files look like inside your DVD VIDEO_TS Folder (or very similer to this) Except they all have an icon to the left of them. Remember, ignore the BUP and IFO files.

  • Apple QT MPEG2 Playback Component conflict w/Mavericks

I am running OX 10.9.1, Mavericks. and wnat to transfer my VOB files from DVD into iMovie for editing. Per the instructions in this discussion (https://discussions.apple.com/docs/DOC-3951 ), I installed MPEG StreamClip. I also purchased the Apple QT MPEG2 PB component - oops! - BC the Apple store says I actually don't need it if I'm running Lion or later. Per the Streamclip site (squared5.com) ,even though Apple says the QT PB tool is not needed, Streamclip still needs it. Fine, whatever. With Streamclip installed, I attempted to install the QT MPEG2 PB tool, but I got this error code: "QuickTime MPEG2 can't be installed on this disk. This software is intended for an earlier version of Mac OSX." For fun, I tried transferring my VOB files from DVD into streamclip, but that yielded another error that teh tranfer would not be complete, adn owuld be missing elements. That's true - the files I transfered to streamclip are now audi only.
So it appears that I need the Apple QT MPEG2 PB tool, but it's not available for Mavericks. Or am I missing something else? If streamclip won't work on MAvericks , is there an alternative QT MPEG2 PB component? Or, can you please show me another way to get my VOB files from DVD into iMovie?
Thank you very much, and I appreciate your time.
    Alison

I found this info frm samberl in australia (in this discussion thread https://discussions.apple.com/message/17333072#17333072), and it enabled me to install the QT MPEG2 playback component. Although all the instructions are directed toward Lion users, apparently it also applies to Mavericks.
"You need to delve deeper into MPEG Streamclip, Lion and Quicktime MPEG2 playback.
    From the MPEG Streaclip website.
"The installer of the MPEG-2 Playback Component may refuse to install the component in Lion. Apple states the component is unnecessary in Lion, however MPEG Streamclip still needs it.
To install the component in Lion, please download MPEG Streamclip 1.9.3b7 beta above; inside the disk image you will find the Utility MPEG2 Component Lion: use it to install the MPEG-2 Playback Component in Lion. The original installer's disk image (QuickTimeMPEG2.dmg) is required.
The current versions of MPEG Streamclip cannot take advantage of the built-in MPEG-2 functionality of Lion. For MPEG-2 files you still need to install the QuickTime MPEG-2 Playback Component, which is not preinstalled in Lion. You don't have to install QuickTime 7."

Hi, I getting a "playback error message" on youtube App. I tried to reinstall the app and to reset and restore the device and all these things didn't help.can you please help me

That's a peculiar one to get in the context of a QuickTime uninstall.
Which particular version of QuickTime for Windows are you currently running? (7.7.5, 7.7.4, something earlier?)

  • QT 7 update requires Pro + MPeg2 playback purchase?

Hello, I am caught in that awful update quandry - if I now update QT to version 7 and purchase the Pro key, do I also have to purchase AGAIN the MPeg2 playback tool? I have already purchased this TWICE already.
Even though Apple state that the MPeg2 playback tool will work with QT 6 or 7 it doesn't actually answer my question. I can't afford just now to update QT to vers. 7 Pro and find that MPegStreamclip and other MPeg2 dependant software no longer works.
The cost might look puney in America but in Australia we are not so rich and the dollars are double - so having to update Pro and the MPeg2 playback tool is actually quite expensive, particularly when you think how much it cost to buy Tiger and iLife 06 and it is these two actions that have put me in this postion - SPEND SPEND...Ugh, where's the money?

Moving from version 6 to QT 7 requires a new Pro purchase.
The MPEG-2 Playback Component will continue to work if its version number (Get Info) is 6.4. If for some reason you have version 6.3 the update is free.
Move the QuickTime Player Pro 6.5.2 app that you currently own from your Applications folder to your Desktop before you install version 7. This will allow you to run two versions of the Player app on top of the new version 7 frameworks. The older one will remain "Pro". No money spent.

  • You tube is not working since yesterday and playback error message is showing, is it happening to anyone else and what is the solution?

Since yesterday all you tube videos is giving playback error message

I know I'm replying to an out-dated post. But problems are never outdated.
I had done all the above too. But the answer to my problem was to change the DNS server number (should have done this first when the "playback error"  persisted.:/).  Take a screenshot of your original DNS number for future necessity, then change it to OpenDNS..or google DNS...I used google DNS...for complete & thorough instructions..follow this site:--> http://www.macinstruct.com/node/558

  • QT7 and MPEG2 playback component - upgrade or purchase?

I upgraded to QT 7 but now I can't play back MPEG2. Is there an upgrade for the MPEG2 playback component or do I have to purchase a new copy?

If you moved up from version 6 then yes and you can get a free upgrade.
Log in at the Apple Store using the same account ID as your original purchase and click the downloadable software purchase link to see.

  • My new ZenMicro Photo says "playback error" HELP MEEE

OK. so I've already posted something about this. but it didn't get any replies. so I'm going to be obnoxious until i get a reply. because I WANT TO LISTEN TO MY MUSIC.
heres the deal: I ordered my ZenMicro Photo, it came in the mail yesterday, I followed all instructions exactly, put my music on, started listening to it with no problems, then this morning it decided to flash "PLAYBACK ERROR" 3 seconds into every song it possibly could.
I use Comcast Rhapsody for music, which requires a weekly(ish) sync with the player to renew liscences. so I thought "well I'll just sync it up. maybe thats what is bugging it out" but NO. its not. so...
    HELP ME! anyone?

    Hi,
I had the same problem with recieving the "playback error" message after?a few?seconds when playing Rhapsody tracks on my Creative Zen Microphoto. After finding no help, I messed with settings till I discovered the problem.
    Go to Tools->Preferences->Devices
Check both boxes for caches in Advanced Transfer Options
Then click the Advanced Settings In Transfer Settings allow Rhapsody to choose the best quality.
Bad news is you'll have to delete and redownload anything you want on there, good news is you can use your MP3 player.
    Good Luck

  • Animation Playback Errors

    Hello,
I am troubleshooting playback errors in Cap 2 exes that
contains imported .swf and .avi files.
Errors: The exe will play back correctly any number of times.
Then, stops playing back correctly. I don't think this behavior
begins to occur until the first time a user interacts with the
playeback controlm but I cannot confirm that. After that, all bets
are off, even with complete restarts of the exe. Errors include
animation restarting, but not completing (most common error),
animation not restarting correctly, audio cutting in and out ,or
double audio. Even better, behavior on playback is intermittent.
After demonstrating incorrect behavior, another attempt from
restarting exe plays back correctly, or it will display different
    or more extensive problematic behavior.
Movie Characteristics: Animation starts .05 seconds after
timeline start in some movies, at 0.0 in others. Animation is on
the first slide in most cases. Some movies mix .avi files with .swf
files. Others contain .swfs only. Some avis and swfs have click
boxes or highlight boxes associated. Original movies shot in
hypercam as .avi, then converted to .swf in Flash before import.
Not sure why some movies are imported as .avi...will pursue with
    developer.
Troubleshooting so far: Assured that animation and slide
timing match. Assured that incoming video fps rates match movie fps
rates. Validated that click boxes are active through end of slide
    timeline. Scouring the discussion threads.
Quick fix without trying it yet is to remove playback
control. However, this is not a solution. This is an extensive
series of topics that mix Cap slides with learner interaction. Want
to deliver playback control if at all possible.
Appreciate any and all insight and guidance.
    Thanks in advance,
    Robbin
    Troubleshooting so far:
    Movie Characteristics:
    Observations:
    Errors:

We managed to fix the problem by deleting the photo transitions and doing them a dfferent way. I'll keep this thread bookmarked for the future, though, if we run across this problem again. Thanks!
Upon further testing, our problem is not resolved, now it will play through all the picture changes, but freeze on teh last one, while the audio continues. I looked into your suggestions, but it still doesn't work.

  • Solution to missing MPEG2 Playback component FOUND!

This solution is for those that have purchased Final Cut Studio HD, and then found the MPEG2 playback component mysteriously missing.
Well, from digging and digging around I found my answer. Check for the existence of /System/Library/QuickTime/QuickTimeMPEG2.component by using command + F (find function). If you find this file, and it's not properly placed in the /System/Library/QuickTime/ folder....then there is the problem. Simply copy and paste that file into the directory mentioned above..
I give credit for the idea to Apple Forums user Dave Jablinsky. Thanks a million!

Please mark this post and the other one you posted on the same subject as solved.

  • QuickTime Mpeg2 Playback is jerky

    I purchased the MPEG2 playback plug-in.
However, the playback is jerky...seem to stop and go...
I played with the video playback preferences...
I do not have this problem with other file types or with the same files playing back on Microsoft Media Player

    Hi pabo88,
I just ran into this in iMovie. Exporting a QT .mov resulted in jerky playback in QT. I exported a Full Quality .dv file from iMovie and it played fine in QT. Then I exported out of QT as a .mov. It only works if you have QT Pro, but it works!

  • Zen Micro 'Playback Error' Mess

i'm currently using the beta firmware 2.0.05 and occasionally while playing back songs, i get the message 'playback error'. although i see this message, the song does play without any apparent errors/problems. does anyone know what this error message means?

i have firmware v. .xxx..... and i get that playback error message too, so i investigated and found out it was only for one song. So i decided to just have my friend send me his version of the song and it worked. so i'm guessing its the song thats messed up even though it will work fine on wmp0 or winamp.. etc.

  • MPEG2 Playback Component gone

    Hi Folks-
I have posted this on the Quicktime forum, but thought there might
    be more help here.
I have extracted from a DVD using Mac the Ripper (legally-
it's for a client who shot the original footage himself, and
built a DVD out of it). I have then opened MPEG Streamclip
to convert to QT so it can be edited in FCP. However, somehow
I have lost MPEG2 Playback component from QT Pro 7.1.3
(did I lose this when I upgraded from 6?). Am trying to DL from Apple
website, but even as I log in, Apple keeps screwing up my address
info (says I'm in US, when I'm in Canada) and won't let me check out.
A call to Apple and I hear that possibly MPEG2 Playback component
is now not available in Canada (!#@$@#).
Anybody have any experience with this cross border availability issue? Anybody have any suggestions for another workaround?
Did I lose MPEG2 Playback Component just by upgrading to 7.1.3?
(I know other things get lost when upgrading from 6 Pro to 7 Pro, but since MPEG2 Playback Component is an add-on, it didn't occur
to me that it would be lost...
Also- further to the above, I cannot play any m2v files on my box...
    Thanks,
    Ted

Pretty sure everything from a Pro Key in 6 gets wiped out when going to 7, including add ons such as the MPEG Playback
What software are you running? Final Cut Studio? Playback component is included. Can you roll back your system? (Do you have a pre-QT 7 system back up?)
You can try backtracking your QT install, such as this one -

First  try a reset. Press and hold both the home and power buttons 10-15 seconds till the Apple logo appears. Release both buttons. Wait 15-20 seconds till your iPad starts on it's own.
If it still doesn't work try deleting and reinstalling the YouTube app.
If it still doesn't work contact youTube to see if they can help.
