MPEG2 Stream & Cast
All,
We are currently multicasting 8 HD TV channels on our network, each stream is about 11Mbit. When we add all 8 channels to the Cast app on the 4310 every stream freezes, is pixelated & has green artifacts. If we only add 3 channels or so to the Cast app on the 4310 then all the streams are perfect.
Also if we swap out the 4310 for a 4400 and add all 8 channels to Cast on the 4400 then all the streams look perfect too.
So my question is this, when using Cast does the DMP subscribe to all multicast streams all the time? This would make sense as 8 streams at 11Mbit would max out a 100Mbit LAN connection which the 4310 has but the 4400 has 1Gbit LAN port.
Second question would be why the 4310 only has 100Mbit & not 1Gbit?
Thanks,
Justin

Hi,
I was instructed to create a Television solution for our students hostel that enables every resident to watch tv with his computer. Currently we grab the channels with dvb-s cards with vlc in vlm mode, which creates a sdp file for the Darwin Streaming Server, which serves the stream in a quicktime compliant way. With Quicktime 7 (mpeg2 plugin installed) you are able to watch the streams. However, this is an inconvenient way for the user, cause he has to enter the stream URL every time. My intention is to provide a playlist for ITunes and use it as client software. My tests with ITunes revealed that it is neither capable of playing infinite mpeg2 streams nor even to play the provided samples from the Darwin Streaming Server via rtsp. Does anybody know a solution for this Problem? Are there any ITunes developer present who maybe could fix this shortcoming in future ITunes versions?
Yours sincerely,
hbwinther.iTunes cannot natively play MPEG-2 content and I've never seen any way to force it to do so. If you want to use iTunes as the playback application, you'll probably need to provide the content into a format iTunes can play (h.264 is probably the most efficient codec, but requires all users to have QuickTime 7).
Another alternative is to provide a URL on a web page to the live stream, direct the URL to a reference movie for the stream, and code the page to launch QuickTime Player with the stream. Then it's just a single click for your students. Either way, I'd suggest if possible that you provide the content in a format other than MPEG-2; that's not a particularly efficient codec by modern standards and, of course, requires that every student purchase a copy of the MPEG-2 Playback Component (unless you've acquired a volume/site license from Apple).
Are there any ITunes developer present who maybe could fix this shortcoming in future ITunes versions?
The iTunes developers do not participate here. If you want to submit a suggestion to Apple, use the iTunes feedback page. But I'd be surprised if MPEG-2 playback is ever added to iTunes.

Compressor 3.5 and HDV to MPEG2 stream?
In the previous version of Compressor I wasn't able to get a decent MPEG2 for DVD from HDV. I found myself compressing the HDV to ProRes, then using the ProRes to make the MPEG2. It wasn't that good either.
I'm wondering if Compressor 3.5 is getting a decent HDV to MPEG2?If you're going to perform HD to SD downconversions be sure to apply the recent Pro Application support update.

evening board
i have a ppc mini with an "enabler" version of front row.
I have many gigs of mpeg2 streams recorded from an eyetv session that play fine in eyetv, VLC and mplayer however i get horizonal lines appear when I play it in quicktime or frontrow.
It seems to happen most when lost of screen activity is happening e.g. a panning camera or an explosion.
As I alread said this does'nt happen in eyetv or VLC or even mplayer, just frontrow and quicktime.
I can play divx encoded movies in frontrow fine, no problems and things like podcasts are fine also it just seems to be mpeg2.
any ideas?
is it a interlace-deinterlace problem? I have a plasma telly I am using as the display (VGA in) however this is the first time I have ever had an issue (games are fine as are all other apps).
I think its a quicktime codec issue but can't find where to fiddle.
Any help would be great, as I'm not relishing the fact that I may have to divx encode 300Gig of mpeg2 just to view it in frontrow.
cheers
Stevei have come to the conclusion that it is the mpeg2 codec for QT.
converting the mpeg2 to DV and playing using QT allows the de-interlace option to work as the DV codec seems to support this.
however not for mpeg2
at the moment I am using VLC player, but this has no nice user front end like front row making my mini a less than elegant media centre.
VLC manages de-interlacing fine, various options blend/bob progressive etc etc all produce nice results.
its possibel, so why doesn;t QT do what it says on the tin?
any suggestions from anyone?
very disapointed.........

Multiplexing Dolby 5.1 in MPEG 2 Streams,
Hi Guys,
I am new to the CS3 workflow. But I am trying to produce hi def mpeg2 streams with dolby digital.
The streams seem to export fine. But I end up with 2 streams as a result. I have set the multiplexer to mpeg 2. I have set a video buffer to 5 as well as the audio. I am using variable bit encoding with 23, 24 and 25 Mbs for the Video rates and setting the mulitplexing rates to 26,000 kbs.
But the stream doesn't muliplex. If I choose the mpeg audio all is fine. But when I go dolby the audio stream is not included.
I am using mpegid to examine the mpeg stream for contents.
Any help would be great.
Cheers
RodneyRodneyB,
In New Project, set to Custom. Under Custom Settings, go to Default Sequence and in Audio, set Master to 5.1. This will establish 5.1 as your Master for all new Sequences.
When you create a new Sequence, it should have the 5.1 Master in it, since it is now the default for that Project.
When you wish to Export, choose AME (Adobe Media Encoder) and NOT Export>Movie. Here, it'll be a bit different for you, than it is for me, since I use elemental streams, i.e. not mux'ed AV files.
Choose your Format as MPEG2 (you would also check Export Video and Export Audio. Look down the Panel to the lower window and click the Audio Tab. Choose Audio Format: Dolby Digital. Your options will now fill that lower window. for Audio Coding Mode choose 3/2 (L, R, C, LFE, Ls, Rs - 5.1 Surround, and then click the box for LFE On. Adjust any of the other settings, as you require.
Last, in this lower window, go to the Multiplexer Tab. Since you have chosen to Export both Audio & Video, it should be greyed out.
Let me know if I missed something, or if it's not working for you. With the installation and activation (actually, all you are really doing is "activating" the SurCode plug-in, as it is already "installed"), the SurCode encoder will be called on automatically to Export out your file.
One caveat: if you later wish to Import your file (now with DD 5.1 SS in AC3 format) into Premiere, you'll need to copy the AC3 .dll from Encore into the root folder for PP. I do not have the exact name from Encore CS3, since I only have CS2 and the name is slightly different. On the forum, there are dozens of references to the exact name of the .dll in CS3 Encore, plus step-by-step directions on copying it over to PP.
Hunt
[Edit] I do not *think* that there should be any differences in how PP works between the platforms. I also do not *think* that there will be any differences, between what I've listed (from CS2) and CS3. If so, I apologize.
[Edit 2] In your Sequence, look down the list of Audio Tracks and find Master (should be at the bottom). In the Track "title," is there a "5.1" to the right? If there is a single "speaker" icon, it's mono. If there are two "speakers" in the icon, stereo. If it says "5.1" then the Master IS 5.1, which is what you want. If it's just a two speaker icon, you will need to create a new Sequence and make sure that the Master is set to DD 5.1. Then, go into your "stereo Master" Sequence, Ctrl-a (Select All), Ctrl-c (Copy), then open your "5.1 Master" Sequence (empty at this point), place the CTI to the beginning (Home), and Crtl-v (Paste). Obviously you'll use Cmd-c, etc.. Then try the Export>AME as stated above. By setting your default Sequences in the New Project, it will give you that option, everytime you create a new Sequence. You can change it, when you create a Sequence, but will default to DD 5.1. -
I have PE7 and a high def' camcorder, a DVD writer but no Bluray writer. I also have a full HD TV. PE7 is great at producing DVDs and I widely use the facility to include "jump points" so I can migrate to a point within the DVD with ease. It all works very well.
I have dropped videos to MPEG2 1440 by 1080 on a USB stick and when viewing the results on the full HD TV the results are trully amazing. I cant believe the quality.
However, I cant figure out how to create the same effect as "jump points" within an MPEG2 stream. Do I need to produce "chapters" (and its not clear to me what these are) and if so how do I do so.
Any advise warmly welcome.I'm not quite sure what you're asking, andy.
You say that you are successfully creating chapter points when you produce a DVD.
You won't be able to add chapter points to an existing MPEG though. Not without putting it into Premiere Elements and then transcoding it to a DVD. (Although then it will no longer be a hi-def MPEG, of course. It will be a DVD.)
Is that what you're asking? -
Hi I'm doing a project at uni, and I need some help. I have ot decode an MPEG2 stream and get infomation like now/next, program description blah blah, ie things you need for an EPG form it, now I don't really have a clue as to how to do this, if someone could point me in the right direction, or even suggest some classes i'd need to use, anything really, i'd much appreciate it, thanks
What is the source of your transport stream? Is this a piece of a transport stream that has been saved as a file, or is it a transport stream coming from a real live digital TV broadcast? This will have a big effect on the best way to get your data.
JMF won't be much help in this case. You really need to look at either the JavaTV service information API, or the DVB service information API from MHP. Unfortunately, neither of these are widely available in free implementations, but the APIs should at least give you some idea of how you need to design your code.

Is there a way to edit a MPeg2 file?
Was wondering if there is a way to use a mpeg2 file on a fcp timeline. what would be the best way to convert the mpeg2 file to a workable file that fcp4 could use but keep the quality close to the mpeg2 or better.
Thanks,
AlBuilding on what Drew said, Mpeg StreamClip can also trim an Mpeg2 stream into smaller sections, which can then once saved out to the hard drive, as stand alone file clips, be brought back into Mpeg stream clip, (collectively) and exported as a unified Single Mpeg2 file, minus the parts you choose not to export out as stand alone Mpeg2 files.
The only downside to this method, is that the in and out points you choose in Mpeg StreamClip, will have to be made at the GOP boundaries, so it not frame accurate, but the quality of the Mpeg2 file you end up with is equal to the original, minus the parts you eliminate.

I think Mpeg2 and Mpeg4 are not supported by JMF with RTP streaming. Is there any Chance to update JMF so that it can manage mpeg2 RTP streaming?
Need help please!!! Does no one has an answer to this question? Is there a way to play an Mpeg2 stream and if there is a way how can I realize it?!

Re: Getting RTP Stream UDP/MULTICAST
I read again the initial post.
You must configure the sender (camera) to transmit to a multicast ip, and the jmstudio to listen this same multicast ip.
Or, you can configure the camera to send to the clientpc ip, but then jmstudio must listen the camera ip.Hi,
thanks for your postings. I can (temporary) configure the network equipment only in the way, that the IP stream is send out of the network and the client pc (receiver) listens to its own IP Adress to get the streams. I've used ethereal already to see wether there are udp packages and they are....
Thanks!
Jan
P.s.: Does JMF need a special plug in to display mpeg2 streams? -
Sudden blackout playing mpeg2 media file
I'm experiencing an odd behaviour from frontrow under Snow Leopard 10.6.2.
When I start playing a mpeg2 stream from within frontrow, the mpeg2 component is correctly installed, the stream suddendly goes black for half a second and then continues to play, till the same black out happens again. The frequency is quite high: the screen goes black every two minutes for just a blink of an eye.
This is what console reports about frontrow process:

I really can't say if I've installed the latest apple quicktime mpeg2 component: the get info windows from the Finder reports "version 1.0.1".
I also installed Perian 1.2 and the latest version of Flip4Mac, but I think that can hardly be their guilt.
Any help is appreciated.
delosI realize that mine it's not a common issue. Can someone at least tell me which is the latest version of the Apple mpeg2 playback component? Actually I tried to download again the .dmg from my account on the store but the option was dimmed. I would like to know if does it worth it to ask for Applestore support assistance or not.

Is it possible to use TV Anywhere as a Hardware Mpeg2 decoder to bild a graph with Graphedit?
I have an DVB card without Mpeg2 hardware decoding and wonder if it's possible to use the TV Anywhere as an decoder for the mpeg2 stream from the DVB card as a DirectShow Filter?
Saargthe CX2388x chipsets are able to decode the MPEG Streams but I don`t think that the feature is implemented in the TV Anywhere so the only way to do it whould be to modify the card.
Anyway there are plenty of software MPEG decoders and also many video cards have hardware decoding built in. -
Windows XP Media Center Edition FAQ
What is a Media Center PC?
It is basically a regular PC, but designed to fit into your home entertainment system to replace your DVD player, Hi-Fi, TV set-top box, as well as allowing other functions as email, web browsing and more, all from the comfort of your armchair, or elsewhere
Many new Media Center PCs (MCPCs or Home Theatre PCs - HTPCs) are styled like hi-fi components to blend in under your TV, while many are regular PCs with extra multimedia functions.
What is Windows XP Media Center Edition?
Windows XP Media Center Edition (or XP MCE for short) is basically Windows XP Professional (Service Pack 2) without advanced networking support (but including Remote Desktop Connection) and extra applications to turn your PC into a fully fledged Home Theatre PC (HTPC). The main Microsoft Media Center appplication allows a full screen interface suitable for viewing on TVs (pictured below left) and controlled by an easy to use Microsoft remote control device (below right), so you can watch and record TV, view DVDs and listen to audio CDs and digital music files.
How do I get WinXP MCE?
At the time of writing, XP MCE is only available as an OEM pack which you can purchase from your nearest dealer or online reseller, or if pre-installed on a purchased system. MCE is currently only available as a 32bit (x86) version, but works on 64bit systems.
The Media Center application is also included with the Home Premium and Ultimate editions of Windows Vista.
How do I install WinXP MCE?
MCE installs the same way as any other version of Windows XP. However it cannot be installed as an upgrade, you must do a clean install. MCE comes on two disks; a WinXP XP SP2 disc, and the MCE extras disc. Boot from CD1 as you would normally when installing Windows. The setup screens will indicate Windows XP Professional, this is normal. During the graphic part of the install process, you will be prompted to insert CD2. This is obviously the second CD of the set which you should insert, as it contains the necessary extra Media Center enhancements. When it is done, Setup will ask you for the "Windows XP SP2 CD". It is actually just asking for the first disc again, so reinsert it and let it continue.
When install is complete, the system will reboot, and you will see the normal Windows XP desktop, though with a slightly different theme. To begin using the Media Center program straight away, click on Media Center in the Start Menu to begin the Media Center Setup wizard.
What graphics hardware is required for MCE to work correctly?
MCE works with DirectX 9.0c, so ideally your hardware at a minimum needs to be DirectX 9.0 compatible.
MCE requires a minimum of 64mb video RAM (shared or dedicated), 128mb recommended for the full visual "eye-candy" interface effects.
For Nvidia GPU chipsets, MCE drivers can be found here: nVidia Drivers. You'll need at least a Geforce FX5200 for MCE to work (however I have it running on an integrated Geforce 4 MX with no problems).
For ATI GPU chipsets, drivers for MCE can be found here: ATi Drivers. You'll need at least a 9250 for MCE to work, but I understand that the 9200 may also suffice.
Unfortunately, I understand that SiS and Via (S3) chipsets (as found on many mobos with integrated VGA) are NOT MCE compatible. Some Intel integrated VGA chipsets will work now, you should refer to Intel's website for updated drivers. I also understand that Via have introduced MCE compatible drivers for their Epia SP13000 ITX board, again refer to Via's website for correct drivers. However, it is recommended to use an add-in VGA card for best results, unless you have a new board which has integrated Geforce 6100 or ATI Xpress chipsets
What TV hardware works with MCE?
In order to display TV output, MCE requires an MPEG2 stream to display. It cannot encode this itself, so requires a hardware based TV tuner / capture card, such as the Hauppage PVR MCE series, or the MSI Theater 550PRO (above left). The card receives analog video through the aerial connection, or svideo / composite inputs, encodes it into MPEG2 format, which MCE can display.
This type of analog card is required to connect a cable or satellite box (eg Telewest, NTL or Sky in UK). Using the Microsoft remote receiver, two supplied IR blasters affix to the set-top box, so MCE can automatically change channels when needed.
For best picture quality on digital TV though, you can use a software-based DVB-T card, such as the Hauppauge Nova-T or the Black Gold DVB-T (above right). Using a regular aerial, these receive high quality digital terrestrial (OTA) signals (eg the Freeview service in UK), which are broadcast in MPEG2 format, and therefore no encoding is required. In the USA, ATSC is the digital terrestrial standard used, as DVB is not available there.
Unfortunately UK users of DVB-T cards will currently not be able to make use of DVB subtitles, interactive text-based services such as Teletext and BBCi, or listen to the Digital Radio services available on Freeview. UK DVB Digital Audio services are now available with MCE Rollup 2.
Unlike with VGA cards, MCE requires that your TV hardware has special BDA (Broadcast Driver Architecture) drivers which are MCE compatible. Check your hardware manufacturers website for compatible drivers.
Unfortunately, analogue TV hardware that is software-driven (such as MSI TV@nywhere and Vox) won't work in MCE.
Windows Vista Media Center will introduce support for cable (DVB-C) and satellite (DVB-S)tuner cards
Do I need any other software to make MCE work?
As MCE is essentially based around Windows Media Player 10, you will be aware that WMP cannot play DVDs until you install a suitable DVD codec. This is also the case with MCE, as until you install this MPEG2 codec, MCE won't play ANY video (including TV). So you will also need to purchase additional MCE compatible DVD player software, such as Cyberlink PowerDVD 6, Intervideo WinDVD 6, or Nvidia's DVD Decoder MPEG codec. Results can be varied using different codecs, so it is best to try a trial version of such software to see which gives you the best results before purchasing. You may find that suitable DVD software may already be supplied with some VGA or TV tuner cards.
Anything else I need?
You will also require an internet connection (not imperative, but certainly very useful) in order for MCE to access the internet in order to find and download TV guide listings, and album and artist information when playing CDs, MP3s and WMAs.
Without guide information, you will have to manually schedule TV recordings, and no programme information will be available.
If you are planning on having your Media Center in your living room, the Microsoft Remote Controller will allow you to control all aspects of the MCE interface without the need for a keyboard or mouse connected.
If you are connecting your Media Center to your TV, then your video display device will need TV-out capabilities (S-Video or Composite). S-Video offers better picture quality over composite video, but you will need to ensure your TV supports S-Video input, otherwise you will just see black and white video.
If your TV supports RGB inputs, then you may be able to obtain a VGA > RGB adaptor, which offers even better picture quality (search with Google, there are lots of sites about this). Many modern LCD and plasma TVs also support direct VGA / DVI inputs. VGA > RGB/SCART is only compatible with ATI Radeon VGA cards.
Can I watch one channel while recording another?
Yes, but you will need two identical TV devices, eg 2x DVB-T cards. You cannot have one analogue card, and one digital, as MCE presumes both hardware devices receive same channels, and can pick and choose between them. (However in the USA, you may have two analogue tuners, and one HDTV tuner)
This is straightforward when using two identical DVB-T cards. MCE has a channel list and guide data, so for example you are watching BBC1 on one tuner, MCE uses the other tuner to record the other programme on ITV2. Both cards are receiving the same input.
It gets a little more complicated if you want to do the same with a paid subscription service, such as NTL Cable or Sky Satellite in UK. As well as having two matching tuners (although I understand that some companies, including Hauppage, are releasing "dual-tuner" cards) you will also require two set-top boxes, with a subscription for each, as MCE needs to be able to change the channel on each set-top box seperately.

/homWhich one is it supposed to be? I have both versions installed side-by-side in /usr/lib, the prefix was /usr. Also, I was thinking about openssl installing header files into /usr/include. Aren't they needed to compile this php extension? openssl098 basically installs just the library:
$ pacaur -Ql openssl098
openssl098 /usr/
openssl098 /usr/bin/
openssl098 /usr/bin/openssl098
openssl098 /usr/lib/
openssl098 /usr/lib/libcrypto.so.0.9.8
openssl098 /usr/lib/libssl.so.0.9.8
openssl098 /usr/share/
openssl098 /usr/share/licenses/
openssl098 /usr/share/licenses/openssl098
Maybe I should go with compiling openssl from sources after all...

Things to know before building a Mega 651 (and other things you should know afte
Okay, following hot on the heels of the "things to know" series on Mega 180 and 865, I thought I'd just chip in with this short post on what you should know before splashing out on a nice budget Mega 651
PROCESSOR SUPPORT:
The official list of supported CPUs can be found here:
http://www.msi.com.tw/program/products/slim_pc/slm/pro_slm_cpu_support_detail.php?UID=431&kind=4
Basically the ageing SiS651 chipset does not support Celeron / P4 cpus above 533mhz, and does NOT support the newer "Prescott" core cpus
Celeron > 400Mhz FSB
P4 Northwood > 533mhz FSB (512kb L2 cache)
MEMORY:
Basically to add to what is listed in the 865 "things to know"; from my own experience of using MSI motherboards in the past, ALWAYS use good quality branded memory, as using cheaper "generic" types inevitably leads to major problems. I know for a fact that Crucial, Kingston and Samsung types work well in MSI motherboards, and you should be okay with other high-end brands like Corsair and Geil.
DRIVERS:
DON'T bother using MSI LiveUpdate! The drivers provided on the cd supplied will work, but if you wish to download the latest drivers, you will find them here:
http://download.sis.com/
Download and install the:
Chipset Software > SiS AGP (Gart) Driver
IGP Graphics Drivers > SiS650 and 740 series
http://www.realtek.com.tw/downloads/dlac97-2.aspx?lineid=5&famid=12&series=8&Software=True
for Realtek AC97 Audio drivers
http://www.realtek.com.tw/downloads/downloads1-3.aspx?lineid=1&famid=3&series=16&Software=True
For Realtek Onboard Network interface
The modem drivers supplied on the CD should work, I really don't know much about them as I have never used them (sorry). Failing that, if you are connected to the internet, Windows Update should be able to find them for you.
OPERATING SYSTEM SUPPORT
MSI state that only Windows XP is supported on Mega 651 (and other Mega barebones). Other versions of Windows (98, ME, 2000) will work provided you have drivers for hardware devices, all of which are provided on the install CD or from the links supplied above.
You'll find that earlier versions of Windows won't have the drivers for the built-in card reader, so you may have to do a "google" search to get them. On my Mega 651, they are listed in Device Manager as "OEI-USB" devices.
If you haven't already got Windows XP then I suggest you consider upgrading at the earliest opportunity; Microsoft themselves no longer support Win 98 / ME and most new software is being designed to work only with Windows XP
Please note that MSI do NOT supply or support drivers for Linux; if you wish to attempt to install Linux on a Mega 651 (or other Mega PC model) you will need to obtain drivers yourself. The remote and LCD display functions will also not be available under Linux, unless some clever bod has developed drivers to do so.
MEGA RADIO AND LCD DISPLAY:
Download the Mega LiveUpdate for Mega 651 from here:
http://www.msi.com.tw/program/support/software/swr/spt_swr_detail.php?UID=431&kind=4
This will update your MEGA Radio program, update the BlueBird HIFi module firmware and allow you to set a "greeting" displayed on the LCD display when you switch on HiFi mode. Apart from that the LCD display serves NO other purpose in PC mode.
After updating the firmware, you should power off your Mega 651, unplug the mains power cord for a few seconds then reconnect and restart for changes to take place.
OTHER MSI SOFTWARE:
If you REALLY must try out MSI Media Center III, it does work on the Mega 651, but I don't think the remote will work correctly.
Although PCAlert 4 has been reported to work on the Mega 651 - having read the numerous problems most users have, I don't advise installing it. If you do get it to work correctly, unlike on the Mega 180 and 865, it will not display temps or fan speeds on the LCD display, as this feature only works on the 180 and 865, as they use diferent LCD displays.
EXPANSION CARDS:
Same as with other Megas, you get 1 AGP and 1 PCI slot.
The AGP slot only supports up to 4x cards; a faster card will work, but only at 4x.
Space is limited, if you decide to fit a PCI TV tuner card, you will be limited as to which AGP card you can fit. A full length card is probably not recommended, and a model with a slimline (or even passive) heatsink would be best.
A better alternative would be to go for a VGA card with built in TV tuner, such as MSI TV5200-VTDF128 or an ATI Radeon All-In-Wonder card (ATI AIW is supported in WinXP MCE05)
ON-BOARD VGA
The SiS651 chipset is pretty old now, and the on-board SiS650 VGA is not up to playing any of the latest games, as it is only DirectX 7.0 compliant and does not support Hardware Texture & Lighting. However, it is adequate for playing back DVDs as it supports hardware acceleration (in PowerDVD for example), and general video output is decent. The maximum shared video memory size is 64mb.
The Mega 651 does NOT feature TV-out as standard. You can however either buy an AGP video card which includes TV-out feature, or the Mega TV-out card (availble in UK from www.dabs.com). Please note, this card is ONLY for Mega 651, and does NOT work with the 865 model. (The 180 does however, thanks to nforce2 chipset, support TV-out as standard)
ON-BOARD AUDIO
The Realtek ALC650 AC97 audio codec offers 5.1 surround sound (with suitable speakers of course ) as well as SP-DIF for digital output.
The sound quality is quite reasonable; i'm currently listening to MP3s through a set of Creative Inspire 5.1 speakers, and its certainly good enough for me.
There are three audio connectors on the rear, they default to:
GREEN - Front speakers
BLUE - Line In
PINK - Mic
To connect surround sound speakers correctly, you need to use the Realtek audio configuration tool (located in the Taskbar by the clock). Set the speaker config to 4 or 6 channel (5.1) and then click on the boxes to the right to configure the rear ports correctly
GREEN - Front speakers
BLUE - Rear Speakers
PINK - Subwoofer / Centre Speaker
NOTE: If you do decide you want to install a PCI soundcard, be aware that you will lose the Radio function in PC mode, and for audio output in Hi-Fi mode you will need to reconnect audio plugs from your soundcard to onboard sockets. The Hi-Fi mode and Radio only work with the onboard audio.
POWER SUPPLY
All the Mega series barebones come with a 200w PSU. Don't even think about upgrading to a higher output type, as the Mega PSU is a non-standard type. A standard ATX PSU will NOT physically fit inside the Mega case. Besides which, the Mega series have a special connector which powers the Bluebird hi-fi module and on-board sound when the PC is off. And there is a special Molex power connector for the CD/DVD drive, also for that to be used when PC is off.
WINDOWS XP MCE 2005
Media Center 2005 requires a DirectX 8.1 / 9.0 compliant video card with a minimum of 64mb RAM, 128mb RAM is recommended, however, for best performance. So you will need an AGP card, because SiS do not provide any MCE-compatible drivers. The TV@anywhere TV tuner (MS8606-10) and Mega TV Tuner (MS8606-40) are not supported by MCE05, because MCE2005 requires a TV card that will provide a direct MPEG2 stream, which a PVR card such as the Hauppage PVR MCE series can do (as a hardware card, MSIs card are software only and rely on drivers to do MPEG encoding), or a dedicated DVB-T card which receives an MPEG2 signal over the air.
MEGA 651 REMOTE
If you fit an MSI TV@anywhere card to your Mega 651, the Mega remote can be used to control the MSIPVS software, providing you use the remote receiver supplied with the TV@nywhere card. The Mega remote is designed to work natively with the MSI Media Center, and MSI Mega Radio programs only.
If you wish to program the remote to operate other programs within windows, then you will need a program called Girder, and the accompanying MSI plugin, kindly provided by nathan. please see his sticky thread for more info, about his plugin, and how to obtain Girder.

Celeron > 400Mhz FSB
P4 Northwood > 533mhz FSB (512kb L2 cache)
