MPEG2 withou sound

Hello,
I've a mpeg2 file and when I try to put it in the time line I get only the video, without the sound. My camera is DCR-SR62.
Someone knows what can I do? Please, don't say me to convert all my videos, because I've already tried and it's now comfortable and practical.
Thank you very much!
Eylon

  • Quicktime mpeg2 - no sound

I recently purchased and downloaded a component Quicktime mpeg2 so that I could play .mpg files on my Mac. When I open these files they now play, but there is no sound. How do I get the sound to play?
Macbook Pro   Mac OS X (10.0.x)

Why can I hear and see the apple mpeg2 sample
    http://www.info.apple.com/kbnum/n75424-de
but cannot hear anything with my movie? The sample file is a "muxed" MPEG2/MP2 file which is supported by the QT Player when the MPEG-2 component is installed.
What are the differences between QickTime and VLC.VLC is more of a "multi" multimedia player handling "muxed" and interleaved spatially synchronized audio/video data, as well as, QT's temporally "frame-to-framed" synchronized audio and video. In addition, it includes "device encoded" optical output while QT does not.... and so on.
Why it doesn't work with Quicktime inclusive mpeg2 codec? As indicated above, QT w/MPEG-2 component only supports the MPEG2/MP2 (i.e., MPEG-1, layer 2 audio) "muxed" format, elementary M2V video files with corresponding AIFF audio files, and/or custom M2V video track MOV files with QT compatible audio track. The normal solution to your problem is to use MPEG Streamclip (free) to convert your "muxed" audio data to QT compatible MP2 data. (I.e., using the "Convert to MPEG with MP2 audio" File Menu option to change the file to one like the sample file above. This is a very quick conversion since the video data is not changed.)

  • Anyone know how to make a QT .mpg? (mpeg2 with sound)

I have a gig making QT file for this display that plays from a flash card, it just loops the content on the card but it needs a .mpg(mpeg2 file with sound) I can not seem to figure out hoe to make this kind of file. Compressor only makes m2v files and I can not play then in QT for some reason.
I have QT files that work in these devices so someone made them.
Any one know how to do this?
    Thanks, Mark

When I need to make these files I create the MPEG-2 video & MP2 audio in compressor, then join the resulting files with BitVice Helper, a cool free app.
'How do you make MP2 audio in compressor' I hear you ask. Choose the DVD : MPEG-1 preset & turn off the video encoding, resulting in an audio only file (pay no attention to the file extension).
Combine this with the MPEG-2 video in BitVice Helper and the resulting .mpg is good to go.
Creating the files with compressor like this is handy for jobs that have multiple destinations.
    Jono!

  • MPEG2-DVD / Sound cut off *urgent*

    Hi everyone
I have a very urgent problem which makes me lose my hair...
We have 190 minutes of 1920x1080 25p footage which we edited in Premiere Pro.
I then proceed to export the files into MPEG2-DVD using 2-pass VBR with 1,65/4,2/6.25 bitrate (according to an online bitrate calculator).
I multiplex the sound into the MPEG-2 file.
When I import the timeline into Encore, it correctly tells me "do not transcode".
BUT the sound cuts off short of the video. It does it for every chapter. I cannot 'extend' or 'pull' the sound to the length of the video.
First chapter is 24:19, sound cuts off at 23:15.
Anyone got an ìdea what I am doing wrong?
    Any help is greatly appreciated!
    Michael

I'm in complete agreement with Jeff here as well - selling PAL discs in the US will sooner or later cause problems.
    Priobably sooner.
In the old days you would not get the player to even load them - it would throw a "no disc" or another error of some description - and even when you did find the odd rare one that would load them, the TV systems would make sure you got a garbled image, or a B&W one. These days a good Universal Player will usually load all types (although again a regular DVD player will most likey still not go for it) but you will still have TV system issues.
The problem is the mains frequency - PAL (Europe) uses 625 lines and 50Hz whereas NTSC uses 525/60, which effectively means PAL runs at 25 frames/second & NTSC at 30 frames/second. The 2 are incompatible. Most PAL players can handle both formats either by outputting NTSC discs as PAL-60 or even genuine "on the fly" conversions to 525/60 NTSC.  The process is not straightforward either - the player is handling scaling, temporal conversion and object motion analysis all at once (Hence why most PAL setups output NTSC as PAL-60 instead of pure 525/60 NTSC) and additionally the audio speed must be adjusted (remember DVD is a multiplexed set of VOB files, not separate streams) to conform to the different display rate - which may also prevent the use of a digital connection!
This type of conversion is much, much less compatible the other way around. Most NTSC players still cannot play PAL discs (although as I have said a Universal BluRay player may do this) and only a very small number can convert 625/50 PAL to 525/60 NTSC.
Let us now talk about MPEG audio & why it is not recommended to use it. This gets complex.....
MPEG audio is a multichannel format using perceptual encoding at 16-bit 48KHz. MPEG-1 Layer II and MPEG-2 BC (backwards compatible) are the only allowed forms and the MPEG-2 that is allowed - BC - is a matrixed format, not discrete, in surround use. Use of this type (MPEG audio) was only ever optional in NTSC, never mandatory (so that is one big problem) and the other big problem is that MPEG-2 audio is only allowed in BC mode. Why is this evil? Take a seat & let me try to go through it.
Because MPEG-2 audio decoders were not available at the time of DVD introduction, MPEG-1 was the only decoder available so that was what got used. As a result, the only permissib;le type of MPEG-2 allowed is BC, which is a matrixed stream type (the 5 main channels are matrixed into Lt/Rt stereo streams) and then encoded in the normal MPEG-1 Layer II format for DVD. The advantage to this is that a multichannel stream can be phase matrix encoded so that it will also play on a stereo system. MPEG provides pre-determined matrixing formulas depending on the intended audience - one is a conventional stereo signal, another is designed to deliver a Dolby Surround compatible (*not* Dolby Digital - that is something very different) system that re-creates the centre channel fronm the left/right channels in addition to a single rear (or surround) channel (Nerdy Note - this is actually a development of the old SQ Quadraphonic matrixing system, set up for LCRS instead of L-R-Ls-Rs). Additional discrete channel information, plus the LFE channel, is encoded in an extension stream so that an MPEG-2 decoder (not MPEG-2 Audio) can recreate 6 separate signals. Because of the necessity to be backwards compatible with MPEG-1 decoders the centre & surround channels that are matrixed into the 2 MPEG-1 channels (left & right) are duplicated in the extension stream. This allows the MPEG-2 decoder to subtract those signals from the matrixed signals, leaving the original Left & Right channels. All this adds an overhead of approximately 32kbps, making it rather inefficient.. The original 2-channel MPEG-1 encoding process was not developed with matrixed audio in mind and therefore may actually remove surround detail. Also, the process tends to expose coding artefacts as well so coupled with the whole shebang only ever being optional in NTSC 525/60 systems means that to use this as your solitary stream type is actually out of spec for 525/60 regions & players may well take one look at the disc & output...................in short, just a picture. And if that picture is 625/50 PAL, quite possibly not that either.
    Audio support in DVD.
MPEG-2 audio is basically not supported except in BC moide, which hands everything over to MPEG-1 decoders. This is not good. It is not efficient, it can be riddled with artefacts & it is not supported by fiat in NTSC regions, only optionally. If it is your sole stream you will run into trouble sooner or later.
I hope this helps, and I think I will go away & write a little article about this as it keeps cropping up every so often..

  • No sound when playing a DVD on my Lenovo 3000 N200 (0769-A44)

    Hi,
I recently got an N200 under Vista Home Premium.  Everything is doing well, except an annoying problem with PowerDVD 7 which is factory-installed.  When I play a DVD with PowerDVD, there is no sound.  With Windows Media player, MediaCenter and even MediaPlayer Classic, the sound is there.  Only with PowerDVD is there no sound.
Any hint on how to solve this ?
    Thanks !

Update 2008-04-30 : the problem only appears when playing commercial DVD that rely on AC3 codec for sound. For recorded DVD that use MPEG2-Layer2, sound is OK. Seems to be a limitation of PowerDVD OEM. However, if there is a solution ...

Very easy to use. May be it will solve your problem with the DVD player noise ? There is also an excellent media play, that plays DVD, and that I intend to install : JetAudio 7, from Cowon.

  • Widescreen output choices for dvd????

Ok...my film looks great...I'm close to output. I lucked out with an iohd so I can actually see what my 4:3 letterboxed 24p progressive footage looks like brought up to 720 and 1080psf or interlaced....
But first I'm going to output a couple of quicktime files .
    Questions:
    1. I've been outputting my sequence to non self contained quicktime files with current settings. This file I then have sent to compressor to create my mpeg2 and sound file...looks fine. WHY DO SOME PEOPLE SUGGEST CHECKING THE "MAKE MOVIE SELF CONTAINED" BOX AT THIS FIRST STEP.
    2. I am considering first doing a widescreen version and am not worrying about the hdcam up-res hd files yet in the meantime to create an SD WIDESCREEN that would fill up a widescreen tv do you suggest:
    a. dropping my 4:3 letterbox into a 16:9 sequence, and when I get to compressor where I'd crop it so it opens wide? I know to crop top and bottom by entering "30" in those boxes, do I also crop the sides as my 4:3 letterbox is actually a windowbox?
    or
    b. they say DON'T DO THIS but I found if I just scaled up to 135 with the quicktime NON CONTAINED movie I create with my current settings of my 4:3 letterbox sequence, when I look at it on a widescreen I'm not seeing much distortion at all compared to just upscaling BEFORE I send it to be made into a quicktime where of course I see the stepladers, etc...even the letters look good...they say it can't be done but WHY am I seeing it looking as good as this?

Nick, I apologize for typing in such a way you hear shouting. My experience is capital letters in the real world as used in this context are to draw attention to the emphasis in this case the question within a question...I could have used italics, I could have used a special color, it was easiest to capitalize...they've been used this way in business correspondence for decades where in fact I can attest to this fact from my years as a typist/temp secretary in huge corporations. The only way you wouldn't know this is if you've never had an office job. I think the world has enough aggression in the world without signing into apple posts and being accused and commanded to correct perceived affronts in regard to the use of my fonts which in this case were industry standard. The only impropriety I'm aware of online for use of capitalizing is when an entire post is done this way and usually including aggressive language. I would appreciate respectful communication on here. If you don't want to respond to my post because of how you think my behavior is I'll wait for remedies elsewhere I am under the wire with my work right now and don't feel like signing on here and being under attack or intimidated.
    1. I'm concerned about quality...when I do a non self contained quicktime before sending it to compressor where my permanent mpeg2 is made, is there no difference in quality loss or additional compression with a self contained quicktime compared to the non-self contained? I do understand the self contained concept say if I wanted to take the file without my original files elsewhere but for what I'm doing now to create the mpeg2 it would be good to know if there's a difference.
    2. I am not a professional I never saw the "center cut" language before but I think this is the same as "windowbox" which mattes off as opposed to "letterbox". I have 4:3 footage ntsc from the dvx100. I then put bars across the top and bottom as a matte...when I drop this into a 16:9 sequence I then have space on the sides and the top and bottom. If I blow this up for a widescreen sd output, it was as I asked above...can I create an anamorphic widescreen version by dropping in this footage into a 16:9 timeline and then cropping it in compressor that will look better blown up this way then blowing up the quicktime file I create to 135 percent which will fill a 16:9 widescreen tv? And do I crop the sides as well as the top and bottom if I do this and how much do I crop off the sides as I'm already aware you do a crop of 30 on the top and bottom?
    Thank you

  • MPEG2 Sound but NO Video on playback

I have QT Pro w/the MPEG2 Plug in (both current version) running on OSX 10.4.11 and when I try to open/play a file I get sound but no video. The file works fine with VLP and if I use Handbrake to encode the file in MPEG4 it will play. Why doesn't the MPEG2 file play? That's why I bought the plug in... Is there some other magic that needs to be done?

I looked at the encoding and it was MPEG so now at least I understand the QT not playing part. Yes the original file was from TIVO downloaded via TiveDecode Manager. I was hoping not to have to do any more encoding to get it to play in QT (want to use a Mac Mini as a Media Center). Using Handbrake I can encode to MPEG4 which does play just fine, it just can take hours to encode. If anyone knows of a better way please let me know. I know on solution is to use VLP as the player but it's not supported in Front Row (from what I can see). Thanks for the help Matti..

  • No sound in MPEG2 video after upgrading to QT 7.6.6

I still have a problem with QT playing the sound of MPEG2 videos after upgrading to QT 7.6. I had this problem one year ago and solved it by downgrading to QT 7.5. Now I did the automatic update suggested by the system which insrtalled QT 7.6.6
Unfortunately again no sound when playing MPEG2 videos (I have the MPEG2 QT component installed). When converting the video to MPEG1 or MP4 there are no problems at all. So it seems to be a problem of the MPEG2 component together with QT 7.6
Any idea how I could solve this? Is the a MPEG2 component update which works with QT 7.6?
    Thanks for your help
    Wolfgang

I downloaded the new MPEG2 component (unfortunately I had to pay the 20 EUR as my previous download has been in something liek 2008 and is no longer registered in the Apple Store
Strange! I made my original pre-QT v6.4 MPEG-2 component purchase in September of 2002 and it was automatically updated to the version for QT 6.4 thru QT v7.5 which was then automatically updated for QT v7.6 and later. It would seem the European stores may operate differently than the US store. You may wish to hang onto you purchase information in case this ever happens again in order to discuss the matter with Customer Service or at least learn the specific terms/limitations of your purchase agreement and/or account.
I hope this solves the problem but it seems most likely that the incompatibility of the old MPEG2 component and QT 7.6.x is the reason for my problem. You may be right
I opened up the installer package after reading your latest post and noticed a statement that QT 7.6 is "required" for this update. So it looks like there were some compatibility issues with the change to QT v7.6 software.
In any case, wish you the best of luck...

    Supported YouTube formats
YouTube supports a wide variety of the range of video and audio formats in use. You can get a quick overview of what may be an issue with your video's formatting by taking a look at the warnings and error messages that we communicate to you while you're uploading your video.
Here is a list of some well-known formats that YouTube supports:
WebM files - Vp8 video codec and Vorbis Audio codecs
.MPEG4, 3GPP and MOV files - Typically supporting h264, mpeg4 video codecs, and AAC audio codec
.AVI - Many cameras output this format - typically the video codec is MJPEG and audio is PCM
.MPEGPS - Typically supporting MPEG2 video codec and MP2 audio
    .WMV
    .FLV - Adobe-FLV1 video codec, MP3 audio

  • No sound even with mpeg2 playback component

I purchase the quicktime mpeg2 playback component. Now I see the video, but without audio. How can it be that even paying 20 dollars I can´t see mpeg2 files fine?
    Any ideas?
    Thank you.

the strange thing is that mpeg streamclip doesn't play the sound neither. May be is a problem with the quicktime playback component?
Make sure it contains audio/what kind of audio by either looking at the "Audio PID" box under the Streamclip "Player" window or the "Show Stream Info" option under the file menu.

  • Play MPEG2 Movie without sound

    Hi,
at the moment i try to play a mpeg2 movie with the java media framework.
I got the code up and running as long as i've installed windows performance pack. If i don't install it, i get a exception which means that the mpeglayer3 isn't supported. As far as i found out it is only the sound-codec in the file and i don't need to playback it.
Is there a possibility to remove the sound and play the movie without installed performance-pack? or is the movie codec the next problem where i need to stop if i solve the mpeglayer3 problem?
    Thanks,
    Stefan

JMF doesn't play MPEG2 movies, first.
But if you wanted to include JMF on a CD, you'd just need to include all of the JAR files that come with it, and include the .dll files for the Windows version and the (presumably) .a/.so objects that come with the Linux version. Then, you'll want to kick off your CD application with a script that'll detect the OS type and add the appropriate libraries to the runtime library path of whatever OS you're on, and include the path to the JAR in the library path for Java. Do all of that (correctly), and you should be able to run a JMF application from a CD/DVD without having JMF installed.
But you still won't be able to play MPEG2 videos. :-/

  • No sound on 10.6.8 after installing MPEG2 plugin, Quicktime problem?

After installing the Apple MPEG2 component, which worked fine with MPEG Streamclip to convert MOD files to MP4, I opened iMovie and it said "Missing Quicktime Components, The QuickTime components necessary to view, edit, import, and export several kinds of movies are not installed. These components are included with the iMovie installer; please re-install."
I am wondering which components need to be reinstalled and is this the reason why I have absolutely no sound at all on the operating system and iTunes crashes if I try to open it
I have tried with another User - same problem
I have fully shut down and restarted the computer
I have reset the Audio Midi to 48000Hz
The internal speakers are selected and not greyed out

I have an annoying problem with my Skype:
The volume of the other person is perfectly fine, but the volume of the sounds for calls is just too high. Like hurting my ears too high.
Is there a way to adjust these sounds without changing the other person's volume?

Not as far as I know. I have self, for the same reason set the Volume of Skype to about 40% and I don't see any effect on the call volume. Only ringing and notification sounds are affected.

  • No sound in Quicktime 7.1 Mpeg2 files

I bought a new Mac Mini CoreDuo to use as a home theater box, and am having an issue.
Let me start by saying I own ALL of the DVDs I'm working with and copy them to protect them from my two young sons.
I have ripped my entire collection of DVDs onto an external hard drive, each title into a single vob file to avoid the problem of moving to the next file automatically. Front Row V1.2.2 will play the file, but without any audio.
Quicktime Pro, with the mpeg2 plugin does the same thing.
Apple DVD player will open the Video_TS folder and play everything properly with audio. It will work fine with multiple vob files instead of one large one as well.
Media Central will play with audio, but the picture is a bit choppy and the audio is slightly off. The remote is not fully functional either.
VLC will play Video_TS folder with audio properly.
Distant DVD plays properly with audio, but the keyboard is necessary to get things started.
Again, I want to use it as a home theater box, so ultimately I want Front Row to work with audio. I believe Front Row uses Quicktime to play video files, and is the root of the problem.
    Any suggestions?

I guess I should have done some more homework before wasting the money on the mpeg2 plugin for quicktime. I found this buried in the FAQ page:
What audio formats does the QuickTime MPEG-2 Playback Component support?
The QuickTime MPEG-2 Playback Component supports the playback of MPEG-2 files (.mpg, .mpeg, .vob, .vro, .m2v, .m2a, and .m2s) that contain MPEG audio layers I or II. The MPEG-2 Playback Component does not support audio playback for MPEG-2 files containing PCM, DTS or AC3 audio.
What's the point if it won't play PCM DTS or AC3 audio?
