MPEG4 File Questions

I have a MacBook Pro (10.6.5) and I have a DVD that contains either an MPEG4 file or an MP3 file. One of the files cannot even be opened on my MacBook Pro, and I'm not sure why. I have several questions regarding this issue. 1. Is this a problem with only my computer? Can anyone else with the MacBook Pro (10.6.5) open these files, or are you having the same problem? 2. Is there a way that I can convert the files s that I can use them on my laptop? Also, I tried creating a movie (through iMovie) using these files. However, I cannot. Another note that may help is that these files were recorded on a Flip Vide Camcorder. I the downloaded them to my Windows desktop computer, and now I'd like to download them to my MacBook Pro. Also, if there is a program that can convert these files, I'd like one that s free. Please help me. Thanks

The problem is surely with your computer . It works fine for me.
Try google for any freely available Video Convertors, iMovie will not do you the job .
please clarify wether these files work in your windows machine, cos there may be a distortion in the mpeg files after processing in the camcorder.

  • Hey I'm a novice on computers, but i've just done a full system restore on my laptop after backing it up on an external hard-drive long story short in the back up process all my itunes converted to mpeg4 files and now i can't get them back into my my libr

Hey I'm a novice on computers but i've just done a full system restore on my laptop and put it back to factory spec, obviously i backed up all the data on an external hard-drive but when i have re-installed itunes and gone to import all my old music files from my previous itunes library as mpeg4 files it keeps telling me i don't have permission??!! *** someone please explain or tell me how to get music on to my new itunes without having to re-import every cd i own which is alot!!!

Other than iMovie, GB always incorporates the audio files into the GB package. So just save or move the GB project to the external drive, and you're done - anything you import, edit or record will be saved to the external drive.

  • How do I convert "PROTECTED" MPeg4 Files to MP3?

    Hello,
I've reviewed the replies regarding converting Mpeg4 files to MP3. I downloaded 65 songs from the itunes store all of which are in the Mpeg4 format. After reading the responses to previous enquiries on this subject I followed this procedure:
    Go to Edit/Preferences/Importing tab/Import Using, select MP3 Encoder/OK
This all went smmothly, but when selecting all the files I wanted to convert to MP3 a message displayed stating this could not be done due to the files being "Protected".
Therefore, can anyone please tell me is there a way around this? I have a Digital MP3 IItronics player 256m. Or have apple protected these song files so they can only be used with ipods?
Any feed-back at all would be very much appreciated.
I need my music to jog in the gym and my CD player just isnt doing it for me anymore LOL
    Thank you,

Hi Sara, welcome to Apple Discussions!
By the book, permitted uses for purchases songs include playback in iTunes, playback on an iPod, and burning them to an audio CD.
Of course, once you have an audio CD you can, well, treat it just like any other audio CD...

  • CGI map file questions, help !!!

I am trying to use the CGI map file to open web reports. I got two questions at this time.
    1. How to refresh the report to reflect resent edits ? I used the CGI map to open a report. Later, I made some edits to the report and opened it again. However, the browser showed the report before the edit. I had to save the report to different file name and edited the key in the map file to show the edited report. This should not be the right way.
    2. How to open a report on a separated screen which is on top of the original one ?
    Any suggestions? Thanks!

    Hi Kate.
As far as a find and replace tool is concerned, most of us
here prefer using some tool such as FAR or BkReplacem as they offer
more features to help in this kind of scenario. The simple answer
is however that these tools, as indeed does the inbuilt tool, bases
it's search on the HTML. Therefore if there are specific instances
of HTML strings you will have to analyse carefully them before you
replace anything. It sounds like you are already some down down
this line. Take a backup of your project and test out your theory.
As far as your map file question is concerned, you can safely
reimport your map file PROVIDED that no changes have been made to
the mapids in the meantime. Personally I wouldn't do this unless
you are 100% sure of this. If it is a case of having 100s of topics
that are not mapped and never have been but could be, I'd just
create a new map file and map away.

  • Itunes loses all mpeg4 files

I have opened itunes today to find the there is the exclamation sign next to certain songs in my library. I have looked in my external hard drive and all the files are there. The thing I noticed is that all the ones 'missing' are mpeg4 files.
This has happened quite a lot before, and I usually fix it by re-ticking the Keep Itunes organised box. However, due to my hard drive doing some annoying 'no disk installed' error message when I select one of the missing songs, my usual solution won't work.
Has anyone got a proper solution to this, and a reason for why it might be happening? I know this problem has been happening to people for a very long time, and have yet to find a proper solution to it.
    Cheers.

    Anyone?
The update this morning hasn't changed this problem, and I have so many files (about 60GB of my 170GB library) affected by this that it would take forever to go through them all, re-adding them to the library.
I also don't want to have to re-add the entire music folder, as I have all my ratings, etc, and also know the problem is likely to happen again in the future.

  • Is it possible to create a MPEG4 file that is still hi def?

Hello, I'm new to Compressor, having just installed Compressor 3.5. I have a short Final Cut hi def (1080i) video file that my son wants to upload as a hi def file on youtube. He tried uploading the Final Cut file, but it was too large for youtube (over 3 gig), and apparently they requested a mpeg4 file. I messed with Compressor last night and created a 952 MB file using the Hi Def folder in Setting. I also created a 252 MB file using the MPEG4 folder in Settings. But somehow I don't believe that the MPEG4 file is hi def.
Is it even possible to create an mpeg4 file in compressor that is hi def? If so, could you please tell me which setting to use?
    Thanks so much, Bob

Does the 1280 X 720 indicate that it is definitely hi def?
By definition (no pun intended), 'high definition' is any resolution greater than 'standard definition.' Standard definition video in NTSC is 720x480 (NTSC rectangular pixels or NTSC 640x480 square pixels). Standard definition in PAL is 720 x576.
how is it possible to still have hi def, if the file is 1/9 the size of the original file?
For a watered down version of compression, some of the information for each pixel's RGB values are thrown out during the compression process. For example, in MPEG-2 compression (commonly used for DVD and broadcast TV), the first frame is an independent or "I" frame, containing all the data for each pixel's RGB value. The next 14 frames only contain the data for each pixel that changed from the I frame or from the previous frame. This group of 15 frames is known as a GOP (group of pictures). The 16th frame is another "I" frame and consequently starts another GOP.
In reality it's a heck of a lot more complex than that, but that's the basics of video compression. For a more detailed explanation, see: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Video_compression

  • Why wont my mpeg4 files link to itunes?

Windows 7. Cant get my mpeg4 files to linm to itunes, latest version. Any ideas?

*On the Home screen, check the Wi-Fi status bar. Make sure it has at least two bars for signal strength.
    * If your device has cell service, make sure it's turned on: Tap Settings > Tap Cellular > Tap the Cellular Data slider so that it's on (green).
    * Make sure your software is up to date: Tap Settings > Tap General > Tap Software Update.
    * Make sure you can connect to the Internet.
    * Make sure the time zone is correct: Tap Settings > Tap General > Tap Date & Time.
    * Try resetting (turning off and then on again) your Wi-Fi router.
If none of these actions fix your issue, try troubleshooting your Wi-Fi network and connection using the steps in this article:

  • I have created my magic movie how can I get it to a mpeg4 file

I have created my magic movie, can I share this with I tunes ect, and how can I get it to a mpeg4 file?

Are you referring to Magic DVD rather than Magic Movie?  If so you really can't go from an iDVD project to iTunes.  You would need to create a slideshow in iPhoto and export it out as a QT movie before importing into iTunes
or create the slideshow/movie in iMovie and Share directly to iTunes:
What system, iDVD and iPhoto versions are you running?  What is the media, i.e. photos or movie files, that you used in the iDVD project?

  • Can I view my MPEG4 files on my iPad. Is there a conversion program?

I would like to load some of my MPEG4 files from my camera onto my iPad2, and show them to the relatives, just like I do the pictures.  How do I do this?  They are in the MPEG4 format. Do I have to convert it?  It seems that the IPAD's native video only works with video it takes with it's camera's, or downloaded (purchased videos).  Any suggestions where to look to get started?

The Videos app on the iPad supports the following formats :
Video formats supported: H.264 video up to 1080p, 30 frames per second, High Profile level 4.1 with AAC-LC audio up to 160 Kbps, 48kHz, stereo audio in .m4v, .mp4, and .mov file formats; MPEG-4 video up to 2.5 Mbps, 640 by 480 pixels, 30 frames per second, Simple Profile with AAC-LC audio up to 160 Kbps per channel, 48kHz, stereo audio in .m4v, .mp4, and .mov file formats; Motion JPEG (M-JPEG) up to 35 Mbps, 1280 by 720 pixels, 30 frames per second, audio in ulaw, PCM stereo audio in .avi file format
If your camera doesn't produce any of those then can you get them into your computer's iTunes ? If so then you could use Advanced > Create iPad Version and sync those to the iPad. If you can't get them into iTunes then there are programs such as Handbrake (http://handbrake.fr)  which can convert various videos formats.

  • Importing MPEG4 file into iMovie

    Hello,
I've been trying to import an MPEG4 file into iMovie 09 without success. No matter what the extension (.mov, .mp4) iMovie always displays the file greyed out in the file selector (in the import screen). As a result I can't select it.
I even converted the file into DV format, but with the same result. Is it at all possible to import an MPEG4 file into iMovie, and if yes, can anybody provide me with the exact procedure?
I'm really puzzled because the Quicktime player has absolutely no problem reading the file but iMovie just can't...
    Thanks.

Have you tried converting with an application called mpeg streamclip yet?

  • Converting Mpeg4 file back to timeline

    Hello Everyone,
I'm trying to put a segment of a project I'm working on back to the normal viewing in canvas. It's an Mpeg4 file and is very boxed in right now. How would I go about doing that or is it even possible?
    Thanx,
    John

    Thanx David,
It's smaller in the canvas and has black bordering around it. I did no adjusting on my canvas size. I re-imported the Mpeg because I can't retrieve the original sequence for some reason. I was working off my G4 and saving to my firewire drive. My G4 crashed and is in the shop. Now I'm working off my Macbook Pro and can't figure out how to get the sequence back so I imported the Quicktime Mpeg4 file I had made to email my client.

  • Can't open mpeg4 files

Why can i not play mpeg4 files on my Mac? I have a new video recorder (flash card type) but cannot download the movies even though the camera is supposed to work with imovies. I've been told i may need to install a driver to play/download mpeg4 files. I also can't play avi files. I have a converter that would convert the files to work but this would take ages for movie editing. Any help would be appreciated.

Probably not a problem with your MacBook, so you might need to repost this in another board, such as the iMovie forum for the version you're using.
I've got one suggestion: download & install the Perian set of codecs and see if that helps:
    http://www.versiontracker.com/dyn/moreinfo/macosx/30931
If that doesn't do the trick, go here:
    http://discussions.apple.com/category.jspa?categoryID=141
And look at the top for the version of iMovie you are using. Repost this topic over there & those folks will try to help you.
    Good luck!
