Mpg movie vs mpg movie file

I have used Clone DVD Mobile and Handbrake to convert my movies to ATV format. One shows the format as "mpg movie file" and the other shows "mpg movie". I had notice that of the 300ish movies I have, about 30% did not import in iTunes and all of these were one of the formats above. I'll have to update whioch it is exactly when I get home, but thought someone may know the difference.

They are "mpg video file" and "mpg video", Handbrake and Clone DVD respectively.

  • Creating MPG or MOV files from iDVD (specifically menus)

Okay, this may be an odd question and there may be no way to do it, but...
Is there any way (free, decently workable for someone not super techy) to go from iDVD into an MPG or MOV file?
Really what I'm wanting to do is create a preview of sorts from my current DVD menu (I like the menu's look) so as to show this "preview" online or in a Keynote presentation...
Even if I could get the whole DVD (it's super short) into a file that could be imported back into iMovie to trim would work - if there's a way to do that.
The only thing I see that I can do is create a disk image or like VOB files which I don't see how either of those can work...
Am I dreaming or are there possibilities?
    Thanks!

Believe it or not, I've been having this same problem since I bought my Imac G5 a few years ago. It just happened to my MacBook Pro, as well. Along with the fact that mpg audio is gone, so is flash audio. It seems to happen every so often, usually after one of my computers hang while loading a preview for a flash movie. The problem actually seems to correct itself after a few restarts, or loading of some programs.
In the process of writing this post, I regained support for mpg audio, and flash audio - and in quicktime player for that matter. When I started writing this, it didn't work. I dunno, quicktime is weird that way. The longest time I was without flash or mpg audio was for a period of 3 weeks. After which, it somehow was magically there again. I wish that wouldn't happen, as it usually happens at the most inconvenient times. The whole way flash is not supported through newer versions is rather irritating as well isn't it? Use SAFlash player for mac for those if you can: http://www.adobe.com/support/flashplayer/downloads.html

why can't I import mpg files to convert to .mov files?

You'll need to clarify your question. MPEG-1 or MPEG-2?
QuickTime Player X or QuickTime Player Pro 7.6.6?

  • Mpg to Mov Files without sound

I REALLY need to convert mpg files to mov files cause I need to use then with iMovie and FCP. But when I convert mpg to mov, the files are without sound. I'm using Quick Time 7. Are there anyone to indicate a solution or another converter app? I need mov files WITH sound.

I REALLY need to convert mpg files to mov files cause I need to use then with iMovie and FCP.
MOV is a file container. It can contain an valid combination of audio, video, text, 'Tween, Chapter, etc. data. What compression format do you want to edit in natively with iMovie or FCP?
But when I convert mpg to mov, the files are without sound.
The MPG file container normally contains audio and video data multiplexed as interspersed blocks of data in a single stream to provide spatial synchronization of audio and video. QT is based on parallel tracks of audio and video synchronized temporally. Since QT can only demultiplex and convert one track of data, it is programed to convert the video and leaves the audio out of the new file. As was previously indicated, if you wish to retain audio, you will have to use an MPEG based application. MPEG Streamclip is free and considered by most QT users to be both reliable and a standard by which other such apps are judged.
When I use that I got a file just with sound and no image. What I supposed to do?
Once again we return to the primary question of what compression format you want to edit in natively in iMovie or FCP. Most people choose DV/DV or AIC/Uncompressed but other options include Photo JPEG, Motion JPEG, MPEG-4, or H.264 with any edit compatible audio compression format. As an FCP, pro codecs are also available depending on your specific needs or wants. The compression codecs you wish to use will, in the end, determine which MPEG Streamclip conversion option you select and what settings are available.

  • Importing MP1 (.mpg) movie files?

I've just started using iMovie08, and athough it was pretty impressive at pulling in all my home movies that were .Mov files, it hasn't pulled in the older movies that were recorded as .mpg files.
iPhoto seems to recognise them just fine, but iMovie won't let me import.
The only thing I've tried to limited success is to convert them in Quicktime, but then the sound track doesn't come through..?
    Please can someone help?
    Thnks

Now have a different problem.... I've imported them into iMovie, but when viewing these videos iMovie frequently crashes (over 5x in the last 10 minutes) and the viewing of the thumbnails is jerky.
Have not had such problems. Believe most crashing problems were traced to missing upgrades and/or conflicts with certain older QT components which needed to be updated. Only crash I've had was attempting to open iMovie '08 after about 72 hours of batch processing. Never found out what caused the crash, but re-booting the computer seemed to fix whatever was wrong. Jerky playback may or may not be indicative of more serious problems. I would make a quick project export and see if the "jerkiness" is limited previewing or affects the final output. Depending on outcome, I might check thumbnail/cache files for possible problems/corruption.

  • My Mac OS X v 10.6.8 used to read mpg movie files.  Now it doesn't.  What changed and how do I correct it?

My Mac used to read mpg as well as mp4 movie files.  Now it does not recognize the .mpg movies.  What changed & how do I correct it?

Try using the VLC Media Player.  It's free and can play just about any kind of media file or stream you can throw at it.

  • Nikon D7000 .MOV files in Premiere Pro and After Effects CS5.5

I recently upgraded from Production Premium CS5 to CS5.5. Initially Nikon D7000 .MOV files used in previous CS5 Premiere Pro project would not play well in CS5.5. Now .MOV files do work in both PP and AE CS5.5. Here are the steps I followed. Not recommending you follow my steps exactly, just providing info for those that are interested.
    1.       Launch Premiere Pro CS5.5 and open previous PP CS5 project, convert project to CS5.5 and rename project file as not to replace previous CS5 project file.
    a.       At this point .MOV files do not play in new project or in AE CS5.5
    b.      Close Premiere Pro and After Effect if still running.
    2.       Using Adobe Bridge CS5.5, batch rename;
    a.       Make copies of original files to new folder location while renaming file extension from .MOV to .mpg
    b.      Let Adobe Bridge finish creating all new thumbnail previews.
    c.       Leave Bridge running in background.
    3.       Launch Premiere Pro CS5.5, let Premiere finish recreating thumbnail previews if needed.
    a.       Attempt to preview existing .MOV file in project. It worked for me.
    b.      Attempt to play sequence containing .MOV files. It worked for me.
    c.       Attempt to play or modify sequence .MOV files in AE CS5.5 via Dynamic Link within Premiere. It worked for me.
    d.      Close Premiere Pro project and AE projects if open.
    4.       Create new Premiere Pro project and sequence
    a.       Import a different Nikon D7000 .MOV file not previously used or renamed.
    b.      Attempt to play this newly imported .MOV file. This worked for me as well.
    c.       The new, previously un-renamed .MOV file also worked in AE CS5.5 for me.
I will perform additional tests but at the moment Nikon D7000 .MOV files are working for me in CS5.5 after initially performing a batch rename in Bridge CS5.5 from .MOV to .mpg and letting Bridge create preview files. Even .MOV files not renamed now work.
An example of Nikon D7000 footage edited with Adobe Premiere Pro CS5.5, After Effects CS5.5, and Sound Booth CS5 can be seen on my blog, http://stevelandonsmyth.typepad.com/steve-landon-smyths-blog/2011/07/my-first-hd -video-shoot-with-nikon-d7000.html

    Hello,
I see 2 post in this thread from Todd that say they are working on a fix and it should be out soon.  One is from July, the other from August.  It is now Sept 7th and I still see no patches or fixes for any bugs.  I spent 400 dollars on an upgrade, but is this upgrade going to be supported?
This is making me rethink upgrading to the .5's in the future.
It is a minor bug to most, but in that sense it should be an easy quick fix. Am I wrong? Is this really a complicated issue?
I apologize if this comes off like a rant, but thats kinda what it is.  It is not hard to batch rename files, but its a pain to have to relink all those files in PP.

I have an old mpg video file, taken with a very early model "smart phone", that opens and plays fine in my newly "rebuilt" iPhoto library. I cannot open, edit it or share it with any other software. How can I fix it, to be able to do anything with it?
    Detail:
I've recently purchaced a 4TB Thunderbolt drive to store my "vast" music and photo libraries. iPhoto had an issue reading the moved library, so I bought and used iPhoto Library Manager to "rebuild" it. Apart from much of the original data such as date taken & camera used etc, it appears to be working well. The aforementioned mpg video was taken some 9 years ago, using an early model "iMate" smart phone, and opens and plays fine on iPhoto, but I cannot open it with anything else, (I've tried iMovie, VLC players, Wondershare and Handbrake) nor can I share it. I just want to edit it, and share it with family.
    Any help would be appreciated...

No - not iMovie, VLC, Wondershare or Handbrake... Quick time starts with a "CONVERTING", then I get
I've looked at the "tell me more" links, tried downloading some of the movie players there. I'm begining to think the file is corrupt.
Thanks for getting back to me again though - appreciate it...

  • Crashes when click on .MOV files

Photoshop Elements crashes whenever I click on a .MOV file.  I tried a power cycling of computer, reconnect files, repair catalog, uninstall/reinstall, deleting and reimporting the files, and no results. The .MOV files were taken on different cameras with different audio and video codecs.  They all play on QuickTime Movie viewer, and can be imported into PRE8.  MP4, .WMV, .AVI and .MPG all play fine.  Any suggestions?   I use a PC with Windows Vista 32 bit, an Intel dual core 2.2 GHz processor, and 3Gb RAM.

I was looking through some old discussion threads (over 5 yrs old), and one suggestion was to close the properties window first.  That worked!  Why it worked we will never know.  The files continue to open properly even after reopening the properties window.

  • IPhoto 11 is not playing .mov files

I am haing some problem with iPhoto 11 and was wondering if anyone can shed some light on my issue
    1) mpg files play fine.
    2) Small file size .mov files ONLY play the audio.
    3) Large .mov files from my iPhone 4S cause iPhoto to freeze.
    4) I can find the original files via Reveal In Finder so I know everything is linked together correctly.
If anyone can help me fix this issue it would be appreciated
    John

    Yes that's  QuickTimeX.
    As a Test:
Hold down the option (or alt) key and launch iPhoto. From the resulting menu select 'Create Library'
Import a few videos into this new, blank library. Is the Problem repeated there?

When I 1st used QT after upgrading to ML, I received a message saying that a codec was missing, and that accordingly QT  could not play the files.  Just now, after tinkering with VSL in vain, I re-launched QT, and opened what had been a '.mov'-file, only to find that it is now an '.mpg'-file.  How that transformation occurred, I do not know, but the result is that QTwill play the file perfectly well.
I am back with QT, and many thanks to you all that have tried to help.

  • Finding movie files

The finder says I have 25 gigs of movie files. When I serch for .mov or .avi, I get just a mb's of files. How do I find the rest?

The mpg files should also be in iPhoto, and iMovie should be able to find them there.
If you open iMovie, it may ask you to allow it to generate thumbnails for iPhoto events. If so, say yes and give it some time.
There should be an Event in the Event Library called iPhoto Events, where you should be able to find all the videos from your still camera.

  • QT mov files stutter in PPro

I have several animation files that just came in as QT files for use in PPro 1.5.  They play fine in QT Player,, but stutter when in PPro.  None are larger than 450MB.  I thought QT mov files were compatible with PPro.  What am I missing here?  I tried converting to MPG2 files, but that only made timeline playback worse (though they played fine in Preview Monitor).

Do a forum search for animation - there are LOTS of past discussions about problems
Converting to MPG is exactly the WRONG thing to do... MPG is a compressed delivery format, not meant to be edited
