MPG to MOV Converting

Does Final Cut have a way to convert MPG clips to MOV clips? I have a couple hundred video clips I'm trying to import to FCP but it doesn't work because they're MPG. If not, is there a free converter anywhere on the web? Thanks.

Exporting using QuickTime Movie is the best bet. You do not need to check "Recompress all frames", but you must check "Make Movie Self-Contained". This will create a .mov file in the same codec as you were editing in. That is what you would archive is you had abosolutely no interest in ever editing that video again.
If you want to be able to edit that video from archives then this is what you should do;
Save your tapes! Save your project file (and any miscellaneous graphic files, music files, etc that you imported into the project). If you properly Logged and Captured all of your footage from your tapes, you will be able to re-open your project and re-capture all your footage. The best way to archive.

  • Convert Flash file to .mpg or .mov?

Hi, I'm just learning Flash on my Macbook and have been
having a great time making my first 3-minute animation (using
mostly frame-by-frame redraws with a few motion tweens and
alpha-fade symbols in background layers). The sound layer is a .wav
file recording of a 5-verse song, and I was able to copy-frames and
paste a lot for the main animation layers because many of the main
actions repeated with each verse. I recruited musician friends to
sing for the soundtrack and everyone was very excited for the final
result. The thing is, the project is a current-events response and
the idea was to post it to YouTube so that all our friends and
family could see it and forward it before the election -- wait too
long and it won't be that funny anymore because it won't be
    relevant.
However, when I finished it all and had it playing perfectly
in my .swf files, I went to export it and ran into two problems:
    1. First, Youtube requires uploads to be in either .avi,
.wmp, .mpg, or .mov format. In the "Export movie..." dialogue box,
Quicktime format is the only option given that would produce one of
Youtube's required formats, the .mov file. But when that export was
complete, I viewed the movie in the Quicktime player and found that
the audio and the visual were completely out of synch. That was the
    first problem.
    2. Desperate, I gave up on my master final file and resigned
myself to using an earlier saved version of the .fla that did
produce a synchronized .mov file. But when I uploaded that to
YouTube, the result was visual torture. Instead of a video, what
played was a slide show -- while the sound played at normal speed,
the animation was only stills: one image would fill the window and
freeze, and then another would replace it a bit later, and so on,
skipping the 50 to 100 frames between each frame that did appear.
No singing rabbits, no grinning governors...
I don't know if the problem is something to do with adjusting
frame rates, or if it's about finding the right converter, but if
anyone can help, I'd be very grateful! A friend was able to put the
.swf file up on his website temporarily, so if it's helpful you may
be able to see it at
    http://cremonea.net/images/flash/mcpalin.swf
    Thanks,
    Gillian

I got a great reply to the conversion question when I asked
it again a couple of days later. The answer is
    HERE.

  • Why can't I import mpg files to convert to .mov files?

why can't I import mpg files to convert to .mov files?

You'll need to clarify your question. MPEG-1 or MPEG-2?
QuickTime Player X or QuickTime Player Pro 7.6.6?

  • HT3775 converting mpg to mov

how can i convert movies with mpg formats to .mov without affecting my video resolution? my imovie projects look tremendously blurry!!

To convert .mpg to .mov, you should take assistance of video converting tool. I've used Video Converter which allows to customize video resolution. Maybe you can have a try. Anyway it is said that VLC player can play almost any file type. Sounds good. You might as well give a try too.

  • Mpg to Mov Files without sound

I REALLY need to convert mpg files to mov files cause I need to use then with iMovie and FCP. But when I convert mpg to mov, the files are without sound. I'm using Quick Time 7. Are there anyone to indicate a solution or another converter app? I need mov files WITH sound.

I REALLY need to convert mpg files to mov files cause I need to use then with iMovie and FCP.
MOV is a file container. It can contain an valid combination of audio, video, text, 'Tween, Chapter, etc. data. What compression format do you want to edit in natively with iMovie or FCP?
But when I convert mpg to mov, the files are without sound.
The MPG file container normally contains audio and video data multiplexed as interspersed blocks of data in a single stream to provide spatial synchronization of audio and video. QT is based on parallel tracks of audio and video synchronized temporally. Since QT can only demultiplex and convert one track of data, it is programed to convert the video and leaves the audio out of the new file. As was previously indicated, if you wish to retain audio, you will have to use an MPEG based application. MPEG Streamclip is free and considered by most QT users to be both reliable and a standard by which other such apps are judged.
When I use that I got a file just with sound and no image. What I supposed to do?
Once again we return to the primary question of what compression format you want to edit in natively in iMovie or FCP. Most people choose DV/DV or AIC/Uncompressed but other options include Photo JPEG, Motion JPEG, MPEG-4, or H.264 with any edit compatible audio compression format. As an FCP, pro codecs are also available depending on your specific needs or wants. The compression codecs you wish to use will, in the end, determine which MPEG Streamclip conversion option you select and what settings are available.

  • AVI to MOV converter

Any1 knows a good avi to mov converter that is free of charge??
    THX

Does MPEG Streamclip do what you want? Note that AVI is a container, not a file format; the audio and video parts of it may be encoded with any codec.

I had all my old home video's and super 8 movies converted to DVD's. Since I will move back to Europe I asked the company to convert them to PAl system. I just got all the DVD's for a lot of money, but I can not play any of them on my MAC book.(I think that is because they were burned on zone 1 dvd's and my lap top works with zone 2.
I wonder how I can make them work on my macbook..? I intended to start editing those movies so I need to be able to play them on my mac. Is there a way to copy them to zone 2 DVD's and or to zone 0 dvd's and where do I get those free zone or zone 1 recordable dvd's?

    Welcome to the Apple Community.
The Apple TV 2 will play all the content in your iTunes library that your Apple TV 1 does. It can no longer sync any of it but can stream it all just as the older model did. Airplay is a different feature that lets you stream from an iPad/iPhone, the Apple TV 2 has Airplay the first didn't.
You can still sort and search content by genre, it still marks content watched and unwatched and mainly still lets you organise much as the Apple TV 1 did, with one exception. It doesn't do nested folders, so the ability to tag a movie as a show (ie James Bond) and have all the associated movies in a James bond folder has gone and it lists all these movies individually.
It has a similar situation with TV shows. It will put all TV shows in a series in a folder as the older one did, but the new one lists each series separately whereas the older model would put all the series in one folder.
Not nesting folders is a bit of a pain with large libraries and whilst I don't like it, it's more or less the only compromise I have to make and of course I get additional features too.

  • I need to know the best, safest way to convert video for Mac.  I just had home movies converted to a DVD format a realize now that I need another step to burn them to my computer.

I just had home movies converted to a DVD format a realize now that I need another step to burn them to my computer.  This is for a Christmas present!  Help.

I don't think you need to use a ripper program to read a home movie DVD. Those are primarily for copy-protected commercial DVDs, right?
I think you just need to transcode the DVD files using a utility like Handbrake, which is free and fast.

  • Creating MPG or MOV files from iDVD (specifically menus)

Okay, this may be an odd question and there may be no way to do it, but...
Is there any way (free, decently workable for someone not super techy) to go from iDVD into an MPG or MOV file?
Really what I'm wanting to do is create a preview of sorts from my current DVD menu (I like the menu's look) so as to show this "preview" online or in a Keynote presentation...
Even if I could get the whole DVD (it's super short) into a file that could be imported back into iMovie to trim would work - if there's a way to do that.
The only thing I see that I can do is create a disk image or like VOB files which I don't see how either of those can work...
Am I dreaming or are there possibilities?
    Thanks!

Snapz Pro X is what I use as well. http://www.ambrosiasw.com/utilities/snapzprox/

  • .mpeg to .mov converter

I have all my videos in .mpeg format, and i was just wondering if anyone knows a good .mpeg to .mov converter so that i can play these movies on my iPod 5g, thanks.

PSPWare (free), Forty-TwoDVD-VXPlus ($2499), Export2QT ($15), and MPEG2 Works 4 ($25) will all convert MPEG1 files to iPod compatible files in a seamless process. MPEG StreamClip will convert the file to an intermediate file format with separate audio and video streams which can them be converted to iPod compatible format by QT Pro, MoviesForMyPod (Free), or Podner ($15) or other QT based scripted applications.

  • Mpg and mov wont work

my computer is set up to play mpg and mov with quicktime but wont, just says done with errors on the bottom of screen. i tried the troubleshooting and it shows the lil picture and clip but still doesnt work.

I will tell you how to do it but first promise that you will run Disk Repair (single user mode, install disk, or shift key held down at boot) and then repair permissions before trying to reinstall the packages.
Also, download the combo installer for 10.3.9 and run it again.
If none of the above works then you can go to Library/receipts/and the version of itunes and Quicktime that you want to install.
Drag them to the desktop and try reinstalling the updaters for itunes and Quicktime. It should work.

  • Best file converter for .mpg to .mov

I am trying to import movies in .mpg format to iMovie 11 which requires a .mov format.  I want a free file converter that won't sacrifice the video quality.

If your movies are MPEG1, then MPEG Streamclip will convert them for free.
If your movies are MPEG2, you may also need the Apple QuickTime MPEG2 Playback Component, which is $20 from Apple. MPEG Streamclip will tell you if you need this.
Drag the MPG file into MPEG Streamclip. Click the play button to ensure that it plays and all is well. Then use FILE/EXPORT TO QUICKTIME and choose a codec for your needs. I recommend Apple Intermediate Codec.
    Detailed Instructions....
Get MPEG Streamclip, which is free.
You may also need the Apple QuickTime MPEG2 Playback Component for $20.
Follow the instructions on the MPEG Streamclip website for installing the Apple QuickTime MPEG2 Playback Component. Here are those instructions for Mountain Lion and Lion as of 2012-11-05...
The installer of the MPEG-2 Playback Component may refuse to install the component in Lion and Mountain Lion. Apple states the component is unnecessary in Lion and Mountain Lion, however MPEG Streamclip still needs it.
To install the component in Lion or Mountain Lion, please download MPEG Streamclip 1.9.3b8 betaabove; inside the disk image you will find the Utility MPEG2 Component M. Lion: use it to install the MPEG-2 Playback Component in Lion or Mountain Lion. The original installer's disk image (QuickTimeMPEG2.dmg) is required.
The current versions of MPEG Streamclip cannot take advantage of the built-in MPEG-2 functionality of Lion and Mountain Lion. For MPEG-2 files you still need to install the QuickTime MPEG-2 Playback Component, which is not preinstalled in Lion and Mountain Lion. You don't have to install QuickTime 7.
If your security settings will not let you run UTILITY MPEG2 COMPONENT M.LION, then you can override the security by
    1.  Hold down "control" button
    2.  Click on the app that is triggering the message about the security preferences
    3.  Select "open" to override and install/open the application
For more on the security settings see this document.

  • Convert MPG slideshow/movie to work in QT Pro

Hi, I received a slideshow/movie from a friend who created it on a PC using Windows XP in MPG format. QT will not play it. (I can not open it in iPhoto or iMovie either). I get an error when I try to open it. Is there a way to convert that MPG to a format that QT can read? Thanks!

QT will not play it.QT is playback compatible with "standard" MPEG-1 (MPG) files. However, the MPG extension may also be used for MPEG-2 files which are not natively supported by QT. Try playing the file in a third-party player like VLC. If it opens/plays, then you can check the specific compression format. If the file is MPEG-2, then the QT MPEG-2 component should allow you to watch the video but may not support the audio.
Is there a way to convert that MPG to a format that QT can read?Free applications like iSquint, FFmpegX or MPEG Streamclip will allow you convert normal MPEG-1/MPEG-2 files to QT compatible files. (NOTE: MPEG Streamclip requires the QT MPEG-2 component be installed for convesion of MPEG-2 files to QT compatible files.)

  • Convert mpg to mov or wav

I'm new to FCE, so don't scorn me for a very basic question. My camcorder records in mpg and I need to convert to mov or wav. What is the best and preferably free way to do this. I downloaded mpegstreamclip but can't get it to work. I'm sure I'm not doing something very basic. Help, please.

Can I ask where on the streamslip website the download can be found? I am going mad trying to play mpg files on my mac. Files previous downloaded on my PC cannot be played at all and those download from my Sony video camera to my Mac can be seen but not heard. Completely bizarre
