Mpg to Mov Files without sound

I REALLY need to convert mpg files to mov files cause I need to use then with iMovie and FCP. But when I convert mpg to mov, the files are without sound. I'm using Quick Time 7. Are there anyone to indicate a solution or another converter app? I need mov files WITH sound.

I REALLY need to convert mpg files to mov files cause I need to use then with iMovie and FCP.
MOV is a file container. It can contain an valid combination of audio, video, text, 'Tween, Chapter, etc. data. What compression format do you want to edit in natively with iMovie or FCP?
But when I convert mpg to mov, the files are without sound.
The MPG file container normally contains audio and video data multiplexed as interspersed blocks of data in a single stream to provide spatial synchronization of audio and video. QT is based on parallel tracks of audio and video synchronized temporally. Since QT can only demultiplex and convert one track of data, it is programed to convert the video and leaves the audio out of the new file. As was previously indicated, if you wish to retain audio, you will have to use an MPEG based application. MPEG Streamclip is free and considered by most QT users to be both reliable and a standard by which other such apps are judged.
When I use that I got a file just with sound and no image. What I supposed to do?
Once again we return to the primary question of what compression format you want to edit in natively in iMovie or FCP. Most people choose DV/DV or AIC/Uncompressed but other options include Photo JPEG, Motion JPEG, MPEG-4, or H.264 with any edit compatible audio compression format. As an FCP, pro codecs are also available depending on your specific needs or wants. The compression codecs you wish to use will, in the end, determine which MPEG Streamclip conversion option you select and what settings are available.

  • Creating MPG or MOV files from iDVD (specifically menus)

Okay, this may be an odd question and there may be no way to do it, but...
Is there any way (free, decently workable for someone not super techy) to go from iDVD into an MPG or MOV file?
Really what I'm wanting to do is create a preview of sorts from my current DVD menu (I like the menu's look) so as to show this "preview" online or in a Keynote presentation...
Even if I could get the whole DVD (it's super short) into a file that could be imported back into iMovie to trim would work - if there's a way to do that.
The only thing I see that I can do is create a disk image or like VOB files which I don't see how either of those can work...
Am I dreaming or are there possibilities?
    Thanks!

Snapz Pro X is what I use as well. http://www.ambrosiasw.com/utilities/snapzprox/

  • Cannot move files without authenticating

Why can't I move files without getting the message that it needs to authenticate?  Just upgraded to new iMac with Lion 10.7.4.
    Thank you!

Repairing the permissions of a home folder in Lion is a complicated procedure. I don’t know of a simpler one that always works.
Back up all data now. Before proceeding, you must be sure you can restore your system to its present state
Launch the Terminal application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Terminal in the page that opens.
Drag or copy — do not type — the following line into the Terminal window, then press return:
    chmod -R -N ~
The command will take a noticeable amount of time to run. When a new line ending in a dollar sign ($) appears below what you entered, it’s done. You may see a few error messages about an “invalid argument” while the command is running. You can ignore those. If you get an error message with the words “Permission denied,” enter this:
    sudo !!
You'll be prompted for your login password, which won't be displayed when you type it. You may get a one-time warning not to screw up.
Next, boot into Recovery by holding down the key combination command-R at startup. Release the keys when you see a gray screen with a spinning dial.
When the Recovery screen appears, select Utilities ▹ Terminal from the menu bar.
In the Terminal window, enter “resetpassword” (without the quotes) and press return. A Reset Password window opens. You’re not going to reset the password.
Select your boot volume if not already selected.
Select your username from the menu labeled Select the user account if not already selected.
Under Reset Home Directory Permissions and ACLs, click the Reset button.
Select  ▹ Restart from the menu bar.

  • Rented movies come without sound

    Rented movies come without sound
I rented my first movie via Apple TV some weeks ago without problems.
Now I rented few days ago a very old movie, original from '61 and yesterday
another one, which just came out. Both movies I can only "see", not hear,
there's no sound. What is wrong here??!!! It's quite frustrating, paying money for
a movie that comes without sound.
I'd be much happy if anybody would give me an idea what to do.

    Unplug AppleTV and try again.
If no luck factory restore it by connecting to computer using a microUSB cable alone and running iTunes.
You may need to contact iTunes Store support to try to request a refund.

  • Cut/paste mpg or mov files together -- NO SOUND

Hi There.. I converted some digital video from its native Sony format to MPEG-4 (mpg) on my Windows machine. QT plays the movies on my iMac just fine (with sound), but I cannot cut and paste the movies when I open them in the .mpg format. So, I have tried exporting to .mov format, but when I do that the sound is not exported with the video. Can someone please advise how I can "stitch" together movie clips from MPEG-4 format using QT Pro so that I have one larger movie, complete with sound? My ultimate goal is to pull them into iMovie (but iMovie strips the audio too), or QT movie format (any format is fine).
    Thank you.
    David

Use MPEG Streamclip (free) to convert your MPEG-1 files to QuickTime formats.
Export to DV Stream (.dv) works best for iMovie.
If you wish to keep the .mpg format the free software also allows editing (including copy/paste).

  • Exporting from .mpeg to .mov file loses sound

Okays so I know that there are numerous forum discussions out there on this topic but none helped me figure out my problem so I decided to create my own.
I'm trying to take a xxx.mpeg file and convert it to a smaller xxx_web.mov file that I can use for posting on the web and sending to friends easily over ichat. To get my mpeg file I:
    1. used mac-the-ripper to get the Video_TS folder from a DVD with now encryption.
    2. then I took that .VOB file from that and drug it into MPEG Streamclip to convert the .VOB file to an xxx.mpeg.
All is well up till this point and xxx.mpeg plays fine with sound. Next I tried to use quicktime pro to export my xxx.mpeg file to xxx_web.mov. This gave me video with now sound
Then I read about mpegs being muxed and I needed to demux them. So I used MPEG Streamclip to demux xxx.mpeg with the following option from MPEG Streamclip:
    DEMUX to M2V and AIFF.
This worked succussfully as well with the M2V file playing normally in quicktime with sound. I then tried to export the M2V file to a .mov file and got the same outcome...video but no sound.
Can someone walk me through what I'm doing wrong? Also I just started using MPEG Streamclip can it do everything i'm trying to do (meaning can I bypass using quicktime pro)?
    Thank you.

    1. used mac-the-ripper to get the Video_TS folder from a DVD with now encryption.
If the source DVD is not encrypted, then the VIDEO_TS folder or desired non-zero title VOB series can be copied directly to your hard drive without the use of MTR.
    2. then I took that .VOB file from that and drug it into MPEG Streamclip to convert the .VOB file to an xxx.mpeg... I'm trying to take a xxx.mpeg file and convert it to a smaller xxx_web.mov file that I can use for posting on the web and sending to friends easily over ichat.
If you goal is to create a small, web compatible file, you should convert to your final target compression format while in MPEG Streamclip. Most Apple applications use the H.264/AAC compression format for posting to web sites since it generally produces the smallest file for a given level of quality. For instance, selecting the "Export to MPEG-4..." option in MPEG Streamclip, pressing the "iTunes" button, and then selecting an appropriate size/aspect combination will automatically load user settings to create your final file. The 640x480 or 640x360 iTunes option will produce a file similar to the iTunes option in QT Pro (or iTunes) but will also retain your audio.
All is well up till this point and xxx.mpeg plays fine with sound. Next I tried to use quicktime pro to export my xxx.mpeg file to xxx_web.mov. This gave me video with now sound
QT Pro does not fully support multiplexed MPEG compression formats. An MPEG (MPEG2/MP2) compression format will play in the QT player with the QT MPEG-2 Playback component installed but cannot be edited or converted and retain the audio. To retain the audio, you must use a third-party, MPEG-based conversion application like MPEG Streamclip.
Then I read about mpegs being muxed and I needed to demux them. So I used MPEG Streamclip to demux xxx.mpeg with the following option from MPEG Streamclip:
    DEMUX to M2V and AIFF.
This work flow creates two elementary stream files. Both the M2V (with MPEG-2 component installed) and the AIFF file are QT Pro compatible. However, they must always be stored together on your hard drive. Since the M2V video file "resources" the AIFF audio in a separate file, if the files are separated, this reference will be orphaned and, as you have seen, you again end up losing your audio.
I just started using MPEG Streamclip can it do everything i'm trying to do (meaning can I bypass using quicktime pro)?... Can someone walk me through what I'm doing wrong?
    Already covered. (See above.)
If I export to any format (QuickTime movie, AVI, Windows Media, MPEG-4), all of the audio options are greyed out. Some say explicitly that there is no audio in the source movie. If I go ahead, I get a file with no audio.
The "Save" and "Save As..." options do not convert the compression format. They merely take the data (which you already said plays correctly) and places it in an MOV file container where it continues to play correctly. On the other hand, when you attempt to convert the file to other compression formats (i.e., change the data within the container), then you lose the audio. As indicated above, multiplexed formats like MPEG-2 video with MPEG-1 layer 2 audio are playback only compatible with the QT structure. If you wish to convert the data to a different format and retain the audio, use a third-party, MPEG-based application.
QuickTime is obviously able to decode the .m1a audio since it can play it. Why does it seem to not be aware the audio is there if I try to export it?
Because QT is based on a multi-track engine that synchronizes audio and video frames with reference to external clocking. On the other hand, multiplexed content divides the audio and video into interspersed blocks of data synchronized spatially within a single data stream. QT could theoretically create two separate streams of data but has no way of synchronizing any single frame of audio with its video frame counterpart. The MPEG Streamclip engine can do this but requires the QT MPEG-2 Playback component to then bridge the gap between spatial and temporal based playback engines. Without this temporal relationship the QT player would probably return the infamous "Not a movie" message.

  • Help...Move files without changing "date modified"?

I need to move files over from my old dead g4's hard drive to my intel mac book pro - but without altering the "date modified" in my documents and folders. I've pulled them over once, but all the files get tagged with the modification date I pull them onto the new hard drive.
Are there any utilities or software or tricks to do this?
Any help or direction will be appreciated.

When you say <source> is that just the name of the hardrive I'm pulling from "New 250" or is the down to the file level... <New 250>users>documents>tcpa-report.doc>
Terminal requires complete file paths in the UNIX style, using slashes between parts of the path. The root of all paths for files on mounted volumes is "Volumes" but if that is omitted the path defaults to the startup volume. Spaces separate command parts, so you must also "escape" spaces that appear in path names or they will be interpreted as command part separators. To escape a character, either precede it with a backslash ("") or enclose the entire part of the path in quotes.
So, assuming "New 250" is not the startup (boot) volume, the UNIX style path to "tcpa-report" would be:
    /Volumes/New 250/Users/Documents/tcpa-report.doc
If "New 250" is the boot drive, you could also use:
    /Users/Documents/tcpa-report.doc
Fortunately, you don't have to remember any of this if you use the drag & drop capabilities of Terminal. Type the command up to the place where you need to enter a path (including typing the space just before it). Then drag the item whose path you need from the Finder into the Terminal window & drop it there. The path will automatically be formatted, including any escaping needed.
If you need to follow one path with another, just type the single space that must separate them & drag the other file path into the window. Obviously, if the second path doesn't exist yet, you can't do this but you can drag the enclosing item into the window & type the final part of the path yourself. You can also use copy & paste within Terminal: copy by dragging across text with the pointer to highlight it, copy, then paste at the cursor.

  • Move files without locking down edits

In LightRoom 5 when I try to move image files (or sub-folders) to another folder I get a message that, if I continue, I will not be able to undo any changes made prior to the move. I take this to mean that moving the file will lock down any edits so that I cannot revert back to my unedited RAW file if I wish. Is this correct? If so, is there a way to move the files without locking down current edits?

I think that message is a bit ambiguous and refers to file locations, not edits. In fact if you copy folders first using your computer OS, you can safely update the folder location, without seeing the message and before deleting to tidy up the OS. It’s generally felt to be a safer method – see fig 8 on the attached link. Why not give it a try.

  • How to get self-contained .mov files without FCE opening up?

    Hi all experts,
I have fully rendered my first file, which is a simple text animation.
I did Export > QuickTime Movie. I am sure I tick the MAKE MOVIE SELF CONTAINED box.
When I quit FCE, I went to search for that .mov file. When I click at the file, FCE project file open up as well !!
If I copy this file for my friends, when they click at it, will they be able to see it if they do not have FCE ?

  • My Mov. files play sound but no picture on Quicktime Player

Please help - I don't know much about computers - called the apple support line and they weren't very helpful.
    I'm a Mac OS X Version 10.5.8
What do I need to do to play my mov. files? They play on my friends mac but not mine. They were originally edited in final cut pro and saved as mov.
    Help please?

I am having the same issue. My .MOV files wouldn't even open, so I converted the files to the Apple Intermediate Codec using MPEG Streamclip as per the Apple Support Tech's instruction. The file will play now, but with no video. What else do I have to do?

  • Move files without pressing down the trackpad in Lion

I just got my new 13" Macbook Air but can't move files (or windows) by "double clicking and holding" the way I could on my old Macbook Pro. In order to move something I need to press down the trackpad, or use three fingers on it. Did Apple remove this option with Lion or how do I make it work?

BEAUTIFUL!!!! HERE IS A MORE SIMPLER APPROACH
If you want to reactivate the classic double-tap-and-drag gesture, it's possible, but the option is well-hidden. Instead of being in System Preferences under Trackpad, it's actually under System Preferences > Universal Access > Mouse and Trackpad > Trackpad Options. Click the check box that says "Dragging" and you should be all set.

  • Move files without command key

Hi there. I use two partitions on my iMac: one for the system and another one for the data. When I move files from de desktop to the data partition I have to use CMD key in order to MOVE but COPY the files. Is there any way for the system to consider the second partition al local and avoid using CMD key? Thanks.

So your User account is on the System partition, but you have another partition just for "data"...?
If you had your User account on the data partition, then you wouldn't have this problem. You can move the location of the user account in System Preferences > Users & Groups. Right click on the user and you get "Advanced Options", which includes the location of the user home. You'll need to copy the user folder to the data drive, so that when you next boot, the domain is there waiting for the OS to find.
Note that if the OS can't find the new location, it will create an empty user account at the default location. ("Where have all my files and prefs gone?)
Of course, another way would be to put everything: system, user, data: on one partition. Such partitions offer little benefit, and inevitably are an artifical self-imposed constraint that will constrain you.

  • Movie transfer without sound

I have tried to transfer Movies from my computer to the IPOD. The movies are in the Mpeg format and were first converted in IPOD readable format using "convert selection to IPOD' in ITunes. After transferring the movies, we do not hear the sound in the IPOD. When we play the same movie in ITune, it plays with the sound. Pls. advise what might be going wrong in this case.
IPOD 80 GB   Windows XP Pro

Quicktime or Quicktime Pro (which iTunes uses) don't convert "muxed" ( muxed means multiplexed where the audio and video are stored on the same track) video files properly. It only plays the video and not the audio.
See:iPod plays video but not audio.
You need a 3rd party converter to convert the file with both audio and video.
See this for help: Guide to converting video for iPod (Mac/Windows).
Please watch for spammers trying to sell you a converter. Don't fall for it.

Hi! I'm having a similar issue. Also on QT 7.1.3 and the latest Flip4WMV, all of the sudden a couple of days ago I lost audio on my MPEG files. In addition, when the video first starts, it pauses for 0.5-2s and then starts playing. The audio indicators at the bottom show a quick spike and then nothing.
I opened the Audio MIDI Setup and under the Audio Output section is says Output Is Not Supported! I also tried the Garageband trick and it does not work.
