MPGA aka MPEG 1 Layer 1 Audio

I've spent the better part of this evening looking for an MPGA plug-in for Quicktime. I have a considerably large collection of videos (mostly) encoded with Xvid for video and MPGA for audio so running 160gb+ worth of video through Divx Doctor II isn't exactly an option. I have VLC and I used to use it all the time but with a new iMac on the way, I would like to figure out a way to play these videos in Front Row (hence Quicktime).
If anyone could point me in the direction of an MPGA codec it would be much appreciated. Thanks.
-Shaun

All of the files in question are AVI's.. The video is in Xvid and as most of these were recorded via a capture card, the most common audio format seems to be MPEG1 Layer 1. I haven't tried the transcoding option yet although I'm a little reluctant to do so seeing that it would probably take a couple hours per file. I know that at one point, the sound in these worked in QT (probably QT6 but it may have been 7) I just can't figure out why it's not working now.
Matti: I've tried installing as AC3 codec just in case and it was a no go but I do know what you mean. I was under the impression that QT and MPEGs got along famously. It's really rather sad, if I can't figure out a way to play my existing video collection in QT (and by extension Front Row) I'll simply never use Front Row.
Just for the sake of satisfying my curiousity, I used Divx Doctor II on a file. It fixed the audio but the video became choppy, laggy and unwatchable.

  • MPEG-1 Layer 2 audio support

This is not a Mac specific question, but a general QuickTime post. One of my clients has something like 100.000 hours of MPEG-1 Layer 2 audio programs (.mpa) that he wants to put on-line. Unfortunately, this format seems to be incompatible with HTTP delivery on QuickTime. If you try to connect to such a file's URL from QuickTime player, the player loads the file until its end (no progressive download) and then considers that it is made of a text track : QT Player displays a superb text track made of the binary data of the audio file! You can test it at the following address: http://www2.opsomai.com/TestRadioIna/KB0531501D.mpa
On the other hand, if you open the file locally with QT Player, it works almost fine. The only problem is the time it takes: it seems that QuickTime needs some time to scan the whole file before starting to play it. It takes around 7 seconds for a 1 hour file. If you save the file with QT Player then, allowing dependancies, you get a 1,5 KB QT movie (vs. the original 110 MB MPEG file) that plays immediately.
So, I plan to develop a small QT tool based on QT APIs in order to make these audio files compatible with HTTP progressive download:
    1. When a file is required by a user, this software tool will open the audio file with QT on the server
    2. The audio file will be then saved on the server, allowing dependancies, but the link to the original file will be modified: instead of the local path (e.g. /Volumes/Media/CollectionName/FileName.mpa) the tool will save its URL (e.g. www.collection.com/media/FileName.mpa). I hope that QT APIs will let us do that, and that the resulting reference movie will be compatible with QT progressive download mode.
Taking for granted that this method works, which I don't know at this time, it has a major drawback: my tool will take around 7 seconds to open the original file, so it will roughly take 8 seconds before the user can start to download the audio file. It can seem reasonably short, but we really don't need that delay, because most of the time we need also to trim the file before this operation, which may take 5 seconds or so, using mpgtx, an open source software.
I wonder if I could use a different method in order to make these file downloadable with QT. Something like what QTFaststart can do with MPEG-4 file (in one second or so, it can modify a MPEG-4 file header in order to make it compatible with QT progressive download). Such a opensource software would be very useful. I could even merge it with mpgtx, so I can cut my excerpt and make it downloadable at the same time.
    Any idea would be welcome!

If your goal is to simply create a "fast start" file, why not simply put the audio in an MOV file container and unconditionally set the file property to open automatically once it is recognized as valid MPEG-1 data. Try this URL: http://homepage.mac.com/jrwalker4/.Public/KB0531501D.mov

  • MPEG-1 Layer 3 Audio Files

Will MPEG-1 Layer 3 audio files work on the iPod Touch 4g?
They work okay in iTunes on my computer.
    Thanks.

Yes. I noticed that in the Advanced drop down menu. In a test conversion from MPEG-1 Layer 3 to AAC, the file ballooned from 4.8 to 6.5 MB. I'm presuming AAC would be the best choice.
I have hundreds of MPEG-1 Layer 3 tunes. I see that I can select multiple files for conversion, but that is still tedious.

  • Uploading MPEG-2 Layer 3 Audio to iMatch?

I have about 600 audio files that I want to upload to iMatch.  The cloud symbol says it ineligible.  Questions:
Is there a way around this?
Do I need to change the format?
If I have to change the format is there a way to do this for all 600 or do I have to do one at a time?
    Thanks,

OK.  Thanks.  One more question.   The people at the Genius Bar told me that since I am using iMatch these files would be uploaded if they did not match.  Since they are ineligible how do I get these music files on my iphone?  When I connect with the cable and check them they don't sync because iMatch is turned on.

  • Sun's MP3 MPEG-2 Layer 3 Audio PlugIn

Hey guys! I have a bit of a problem. I have downloaded and installed the MP3 plugin from the following site: http://java.sun.com/products/java-media/jmf/mp3/download.htm
Still, after having installed it, I can't run mp3 files. Is this because I use the clause this.anyAudioClipReference.play(); where anyAudioClipReference.play() = this.getAudioClip(getDocumentBase(), "AudioClipFolder/audioclip.mp3");? Is there another clause for playing mp3-files specifically? Should I maybe import something to my applet? Thanks in advance,
    Teddy

    Sorry, I mean
    anyAudioClipReference = this.getAudioClip(getDocumentBase(), "AudioClipFolder/audioclip.mp3");

  • Mpeg-1 Layer II / PCM support

    Hello,
Does anyone know if there's a way to play Mpeg-1 Layer II
(MP2) or PCM(wav) audio formats with AS3/Flash10? I tried to play
these using NetStream and the Sound object, but with no luck. Does
anyone know if there's any way to play these formats, or if there's

  • Editing MPEG-2 files with embedded MPEG Layer 2 audio in FCP?

I need to edit .mpg files, MPEG2 with MPEG Layer 2 audio embedded. I can read the files in Quicktime no problem, but if I import them in FCP, there is no audio in the timeline, only video. If I try to build a DVD, DVD Studio does not recognize the file type. If I try to export it from QT in any other format, there is no audio in the new file.
The MPEG files have been created by a Canopus encoder card inside a Windows based broadcast video server at work. I would have thought that MPEG files were somewhat standard... I guess not!
Is there a way to convert these files so that I may use them in FCP or DVD studio Pro? Or configure the apps... or have a special codec?

Download the freeware program MPEG Streamclip. It can demux and convert the files to match your FCP Sequence settings (in most cases).

  • Trying to get an MPEG Layer 3 Audio book onto iTunes

I purchased an audio book that downloaded in an MPEG Layer 3 Audio format.  I have two questions...
#1 - I've researched importing MPEG 3 Audio music into iTunes and it typically tells you to just do a drag-n-drop into iTunes.  Do they mean drop it into the folder that holds the iTunes music files or drop it right into iTunes as it appears on you screen when it is open?
#2 - The book downloaded as many smaller files all making up the single book.  I don't want to load each individual one into iTunes do I?  Or do I load all of them individually and then make a play list that will play them consecutively so I can listen to the book?
    Thanks in advance!

Here's what worked for me when iTunes would let me just drag an drop mp3 files into a new playlist on my PC.
-First I made sure iTunes my default audio player.
-In the folder containing them I selected all of the mp3 files I wanted to add to the new playlist.
-I right-clicked the selected files and clicked "Open."
That's all I needed to get the mp3 files into the "Songs" display of "My Music" on iTunes. The rest was straightforward. Here's hoping this will work for you!

  • MPEG Layer 3 audio files have changed into MP3^^ files,What is ^^

MPEG Layer 3 audio files have changed into MP3^^ files,What is ^^ and why wont the music files play anymore??

I reinstalled OSX on my macbook which previously played all avi files with no difficulties. Now I am having difficulties playing Avi files with quicktime PRO that use the Mpeg layer 3 codec. I have done the following with no success: downloaded flip 4 mac, divx, xvid, 3ivx, Xvid codecs, changed MIME settings, and deleted and reinstalled.
Depending on the specific version and sometimes the ordering in which they were installed, you may have created a conflict among the components here. While most current VidX components should be able to play MPEG Layer-3 audio, v5.1.1 is the only free VidX codec that is bi-directional. If that is not a problem, then I would recommend you remove (or "hide") all components in the main "Library > QuickTime" folder. Next I would determine if one (or more) of the AVI associated components can actually play the specific files mentioned on their own. You do this by installing a compenent to be tested, opening the player with one of the problem movies, and checking for correct audio and video playback. Log your results, close the player, remove the tested component, and move on to the next component to be tested. Once you deterime which component(s) may function correctly, I would then move on to determine which specific components are in conflict by repeating the tests but leaving the components installed after each test. In this case start with a component that is known to work and is the one you most desire to use (if more than one works). If the player stops working, then you have located a potential conflict. Set the offending component aside and continue testing until all components have been tested and are either installed or set aside. The last step is to simply evaluate component alternatives and configure you system for those files most often played. In my case the VidX v6 Pro components did not seem to get along with the 3ivX D4 v4.5 and/or Casio AVI and/or XVIDDelegate component combination.

  • Why is my iPhone 5 skipping/not playing any of my songs in an mpeg-1 layer 3 file format? This only started happening after I updated to iOS 8.

I'm getting really upset with this ridiculous nonsense!! Ever since that lousy upgrade to iOS 8, mind you I did not get the worthless recalled iOS 8.0.1 update, my phone has been freaking out. Glitching and freezing are now common place and my apps, which I have never had a problem with in the past, are now crashing without warning. To top it all off my phone, which has had NO problems in this area before iOS 8, is all of sudden skipping and now deleting all of my mpeg-1 layer 3 music files without my consent!! This leads me to assume that the only two explanations are 1) this is just a huge screw up on Apples part and now several of their technical lackeys are feverishly working to get a reasonable working update out and to quell a lot of unnecessary headaches like mine and many others OR 2) Apple is now forcing our hand in purchasing songs only in their own personal format, MP4 I believe it is. Either way, I'm more than a little ****** off and I'm sure Steve Jobs is rolling over in his grave at the large amount of excrement disguised as Apple products and operating systems his beloved company is dumping on it's faithful customers.

    Try
Settings > iTunes & App Store > Apple ID: > Sign out then sign back in.
Assuming you have Internet connection to the Internet.

  • MPEG-1, layer 2 cannot be copied on iPod from computer

Is it normal that a MPEG-1 layer 2 (layer 3, I don't even know what those mean!)
cannot be transfered from iTunes on my G5 to my iPod (iPod Classic 30GB, software 1.3)?
I noticed that I can transfert MPEG-1 layer 3 with no problem.
Is there any way I can modify a layer 2 file into layer 3 and vice versa?
    What are those layers anyway?
    Thanks

  • How to report Quicktime bug? MPEG-2 Export no audio

Subject says it all. I did not find any possibility to log a bug for Quicktime. How to do this?
    My problem is:
I have MPEG-2 movies from my Sony digital camera. Quicktime plays them without problem. But when I export them to any format, QT exports them without audio. The audio section in the export dialog is grayed out.
Doing the same in MPEG Streamclip works without problem.

MPEG-1 is an obsolete low-res, poor quality format. MPEG-2 (DVD) is a delivery and not an editing format. You can send in 1000 sugegstions and you will never see MPEG-1/2 exporting audio in Quicktime.
They do read the forums and there are people who test and submit feature requests for programs like Quicktime. But this one won't fly, and it has been around for ages here.
The good news is the free MPEG Streamclip is as fast or faster and does batches of these pesky files so use that and forget asking for this feature.

  • Adobe Flash Player can't decode MPEG1 Layer 2 and MPEG1 Layer 1 audio, Please improve it.

We often use MPEG1 Layer 2 and MPEG1 Layer 1 audio in our life, But Adobe Flash Player can't decode it until now. So we hope that adobe can improve it as soon as possible, and it will bring more convenience to global users of adobe.

Could you please open a new feature request on this over at https://bugbase.adobe.com?  When adding the report, please include some sample code and media so we can quickly test this out internally.
Once added, please post back with the URL so that others effected can add their comments and votes.

  • MPEG Layer-3 Audio not playing in IE - Plugin problem?

Please can someone advise me how to rectify the following issue. I updated Quicktime last night to 7.6.2. Since then I have been unable to play quicktime audio files in IE, where previously (yesterday), this would work.
Audio links for MPEG layer-3 files now do not work, and instead I get a blue Q with a question mark, and a red cross where the quicktime logo should be. The page informs me that audio requires quicktime 7, though I aleady have this installed and have the audio files associated with Quicktime.
Also, when I go into the MIME settings within Quicktime preferences (Vista Platform), it does not bring up the expected window and directs me to Windows file association.
Is anyone able to help. I have made no changes to my system other than updating Quicktime.
    Thanks in advance.

I apologise if there is an obvious solution to this. I am no expert when it comes to this sort of thing.
If anyone has any ideas I would be grateful. It is quite frustrating when you do the recommended (i.e update) and things stop working.
    Please help.
