MPGs, cannot skip ahead

Some mpg movies that I have will play just fine no matter where I position the playhead, while some others will hang if I click ahead while playing. These movies continue to move the playhead as though it is playing, and will sometimes even update the video with one frame here & there. Even after I stop the movie, I see QT at a high processor usage for several seconds afterwards. Sometime I see a beachball after I click ahead.
VLC and MPlayer will play the movie anywhere I click the playhead, but MPEG Streamclip behaves the same as QT. (I suspect that VLC and MPlayer use non-QT mpg codecs.)
I have examined the encoding type with several different players and I see absolutely no difference between movies that play OK anywhere I move the playhead and those that won't.
I've seen this all before. A new version of QT will come out and it brings with it this disease, followed by the next QT version that plays all mpgs OK. The only solution may be to wait for SnowLeopard and its new QT player, but I'm here asking if anyone knows a workaround for QT 7.6.2 - 518 (current version).
I hope that QT doesn't ultimately lose its support for MPGs, as I have many movies made during the 90's that are encoded with MPEG1. Re-encoding isn't an option since some of these are marginal quality already.

Well, that was worth a shot. Thanks Kyn, but it had no effect. I fixed them then played it in MPEG Streamclip. Same thing, can't skip ahead. Then saved as a new mpg and played it in QT. Same thing.

  • Windows 7 and iTunes 9.02 Cannot Skip Tracks

I can hit "play" and hear a song but cannot skip a track. When I hit the skip track button, it just stops playing.
Any thoughts on how to fix this?

Are the little checkboxes to the left of name ticked? If not iTunes will not advance to the next track as iTunes skips unchecked tracks.
To check all, press ctrl & click in one of the little boxes or use select all, then right click in the selection and choose check all.

  • I did not keep the email with my registration for the free trial so I do not have a serial number as I have no products due to the fact that my trial has expired but I would now like to purchase a product and I cannot skip the serial number request.

I did not keep the email with my registration for the free trial so I do not have a serial number as I have no products due to the fact that my trial has expired but I would now like to purchase a product and I cannot skip the serial number request in order to buy the product it's so irritating I'm about to just do a different product altogether... anyone know how to get or bypass the serial number request?

You must first make the purchase, then you will receive the serial number you are asking about.  YOu do not acquire the serial number thru the software.  You acquire it thru the purchase, possibly via a follow-up confirmation  email.

  • Quantum TV - Skip Ahead does not work when program still recording or when time shifting

I've always used skip ahead (set to 30 secs) to jump over commercials etc.  Since "upgrading" to Quantum, the skip ahead button does not always work.  I've narrowed the problem down to when the show you're watching is still airing (i.e. not  done recording).  The skip ahead function seems to work for a while until you reach a certain point in the program, then instead of skipping ahead, it jumps back to some earlier spot in the program.  When this problem occurs, this earlier spot is always the same spot.  To get around this bug you have to remember not to use the skip ahead button (easier said than done) or you're forced to fast forward back to the spot you  left off.  So once the problem starts you have to use the Fast Forward button to skip ahead.
Is this a known issue?  Is a fix in the works?  Very frustrating indeed.
Other gripes I have are  covered in other posts...such as the laggy remote controls.
    Thanks
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

People have reported that the skip issue is fixed in the latest level of the Verizon code sent out on 9/11, and Verizon has also said it is fixed. Are you sure you still have the problem? If so, I suggest you check to see if you have the latest software:
    Release: 1.0b
    Build Number: 02.18.2
    User Interface Version: 02.18.1
    Middleware Version: 02.18
    Firmware Version: KA12.37.03.04Alder.408758
I have not experienced the skip problem on the new software level, but I have only done the skipping once on a program still recording so that is probably not a good test.
I also do not really see any laggy response very often. Yes at times the box seems to just stop and take a deep breath or something for a couple of seconds, but overall the responses to commands from the remote have been getting better with each software upgrade (I have had 6 software upgrades I think since I got Quantum TV in early April). And I know Verizon has been working to improve the performance. Question: have you turned off the box and pulled the power plug for 15-20 seconds, then reconnected the power and let the box reinitialize? Some people have reported that doing that improves the remote performance (I have not had to do that).
At this point I really do not have any issues with Quantum TV at all, but then again I have a pretty simple setup, no sound system for example, and I never use any Widgets or VOD, which some people complain about. I have my setup to watch TV, and record programs to watch later, the rest of the functionality is really of little or no interest to me.

  • Can I Skip Ahead To Next Video In Menu?

I've set up my menus, submenus and videos in iDVD, burned a trial disc and am happy with it, except for one thing. When a video is done, I get taken back to the menu every time. I'd like to be able to skip ahead to the next video in the menu, but instead I get a video that isn't near where I want to be. Is there a way I can control what video the skip forward takes me to? How does iDVD determine where to go when the button is pressed?
    Thanks,

iDVD is designed to return back to the main menu after each movie has finished. Nothing can be done about that unless you string your movies together in one large iMovie project, in which case they will play in sequence, and can be accessed by chapter markers (scene selection buttons).
To answer your second question, if you have more than one video in a DVD, then each video should have a button to allow you to play it from the beginning. Scene selection buttons, on the other hand, are just entry points in a movie and when you select a scene the movie will continue to play from that point forward through all the other scenes until the movie ends.

  • Complete Harry Potter Audiobook Skips ahead

I am experiencing a problem with The Complete Harry Potter on my 40 GB 3rd Generation iPod. I downloaded the Complete Harry Potter (6 books) from the iTunes music store and it plays without any problems on my iMac G4 with iTunes 6.0.x (the audiobook was downloaded after updating to iTunes 6).
When I attempt to play any of the books on my iPod, the "song" or track plays fine for approximately 30 minutes, but then skips ahead to the next track (i.e. an hour into Book One, Part One, it skips ahead to Part Two, completely ignoring the remaining 1 hour and 30 minutes of Part One). This has happened on almost every track in three of the six books (haven't tried the other three).
    Any thoughts/fixes/etc. would be appreciated.

Have you updated your iPod's firmware to the most recent version? You need to download the iPod software updater to do this.

  • Songs skip ahead???

    Hi,
Does anyone have this where a song starts playing and then all of a sudden goes to the next song? Sometimes whole lists of longs just keep skipping ahead. The later seems related to level of battery charge, but even if the battery is charged I get this problem where certain songs won't play the whole way and it skips ahead.
    Any advice appreciated!
    Thanks

is it just the purchased music?
Yes, The purchased music skips when played on my Ipod
Do you have an external memory hard drive where your music is located rather then on your internal hard drive?
Yes, I have an exterenal hard drive because my internal hard drive is not large enough to hold all of my music files.
I tried your suggestion twice. But Unfortunately, the purchased music still skips. What is frustrating is when the IPOD is connected to Itunes in manual update mode I can play the purchased music files.
Do you have any other suggestions?
    Thank you for your help.

  • Asha 302 cannot skip songs!

    Hi there,
I just bought this phone, updated to 14.78 firmware and from what I can see I cannot skip to the next track when pressing the forward or back key. The phone just replays the same song. The way I play songs is this:
Go into Gallery>memory card>select a music folder and then play the first song. When i press next it just replays the first song i selected.
This doesn't happen when, for example, i go into menu>music>my music>all songs. This time the next button does work, but how in God's name am I supposed to listen to a specific folder of songs. This issue was not present in Nokia C3 which is a very simmilar phone.

If so, you can play the songs from the music player.
If you are not able to see the album in the music player, you can always change the album name using your PC.
Connect the phone to PC in mass storage mode or use a card reader to connect your memory card.
Go to the folder you want, select all the mp3 files, right click and click on properties.
Now select details tab and enter the album name you want and hit OK.
That's it. Now you should be able to see the album in album list of your phone's music player.
    Hope this helps.

  • Cannot skip to next song

I cannot skip to the next song in itunes. No matter which method I try the song simply stops playing.
mouse-clicking on the ff/skip virtual button stops current song.
controls menu next song stops current song.
smart key cmd rt arrow stops current song.
apple keyboard ff/skip button stops current song.
    any ideas anybody?
    please and thanks,
    dt

I also am having the same issue. If I have a play list and hit the play button while in random once the first song is done itunes will stop. If I fiddle with it enough like jumping around to different tracks or restarting the app i can get it to work. I'm thinking it is a bug as it was not doing this before the last update. I have also notice the same issue on my iphone.
And yes all my songs have the check mark box on.
    Anyone else experiencing this problem?

  • Is anyone having issues with their iPhone 5 music controls in a 2012 Hyundai Accent, both on Bluetooth and using a headphone or USB cable?  My music plays but I cannot skip songs without physically using the iPhone 5 controls.  Thanks!

    Hello,
I have an AT&T iPhone 5 purchased from an AT&T store - it is a normal phone, no changes, no jailbreaking.  I tried using my phone and my girlfriend’s iPhone 5 with the USB auxiliary cable in my 2012 Hyundai Accent.  No matter what connector I use (headphone, USB, auxiliary) it doesn't charge or allow me to use the Hyundai’s controls to change music.  Music will play through the Bluetooth system, but I cannot control the music unless I physically touch my iPhone.  My iPhone 4 has a USB auxiliary cable and works perfectly; it charges and I have full control of my music without having to touch my phone. Nothing works even if I use the adapter that connects the iPhone 4 charger end to the iPhone 5. The picture below shows the iPhone 4 USB cable but it needs to have the (blue) iPhone 5 adapter.
Here’s the best part of this whole situation.  I was told by Hyundai Customer Care that there is a specific USB cable available for my iPhone and that I need to contact a dealer.  However, two Hyundai dealerships have told me that they do not have a cable, that Apple has not made a cable for the iPhone 5, and that I need to contact Apple directly or order it from an Apple store.  It gets better.  I contacted an Apple Store and they told me to contact Hyundai.  I explained what I wrote above and they put on a call with Apple Customer Care.  After 37 minutes on the phone with Apple, they still couldn't give me a satisfactory answer on how to get this cable or if they even had a cable (Case ID 505467409).
So here is the magical question:   Is there a working adapter for the iPhone 5 that connect to a 2012 Hyundai Accent? It needs to play music, charge the phone, and work with the car’s controls.  Thanks!
    -sam

The problem is that you're using an uncertified lightning to 30-pin connector (the blue cable).  If you purchase the 30-pin to lightning cable (either online, at an Apple store or an authorized dealer) it should work fine.
I have a 2011 Tuscon and tried the lightning to USB cable that came with the phone - no dice.  Talked to my local Hyundai dealer and they don't have an eta on the Hyundai lightning cables (I'm sure it's in the works).

  • IOS 8 cannot skip iCloud setup step to complete setup

When I choose Skip This Step it keeps looping back to Hello screen.

Just came out a 45 minute chat and a one hour call with Apple. It looks like my iTunes backup of my iPad mini got somehow corrupted. Happily I also own an iPad Air and I am restoring it from that device. If your backup also got corrupted during the installation of iOS8 I am afraid you can only set it up as a new device and start all over again. You can download your apps from the App Store, your music from the iTunes Store and try to get your pictures back from iPhoto or so. I don't see a way to use the old backup if it is corrupted as well.
If you can't restore try to hold both buttons for 30 seconds or so until you see the "connect to iTunes" logo on your screen. If iTunes is complaining about turning off "Find My iPhone" you can delete the device via iCloud.com.
Life's getting easier and easier :-)

  • ITunes skips ahead skip ahead when continuing playback after pausing

Just recently (after an iTunes upgrade? -- I'm running iTunes 11.1.3 with OS X 10.9), I noticed that when I pause a playback in iTunes and then hit play to resume, the playback "skips a beat" - it doesn't pick up where it left off, but rather a fraction of a second (or more) later in the audio track. This may not matter too much for music, but for audio books or instructional materials, useful information is skipped over and it's a nuisance to back up to find it and play it.
Any ideas what may be causing this or, better yet, how to fix it?
    Thanks.

I listen to podcasts and audiobooks as well but I am not seeing the same issue you are reporting. Are you able to see that issue immediately if you unplug and plug back in and start playback?
