MPGs will not play in iPhoto 08

I imported three mpgs from my digital camera into iPhoto 08 and they will not play. However is they are placed on the desktop QT opens and plays them. Get info shows them as mpgs and the size.
They did play in previous versions of iPhoto. Running Snow leopard
Any ideas?

This is a glitch between 10.6 and iPhoto 08. The solution is to install QuickTime 7 from your 10.6 install disk.

  • Quick time movies (.mov) files will not play in Iphoto 11.

Quick time movies (.mov) files will not play in Iphoto 11. The thumbnail of the movie shows but when selected only a exclamation mark appears.  I rebuilt the library, thumbnails, permissions etc. I also found the movie files in the iphoto database intact and working. Please advise.

    You're welcome.
Well believe it or not, that's exactly what the exclamation point means. Search the forum. I've been doing this a while.
Next, I have no interest, commercial or otherwise in Library Manager, I have no shares in the company that makes it. I didn't make it. It's not my software.  You could give those guys a million dollars and I'll get nothing from it. I and other expereinced users have recommended it thousands of times on this forum for this problem. Amazing how often it works. Of course, a quick search would have told you that already.
Another: Believe it or not you can use the Rebuild Function of Library Manager for free. You don't need to purchase it for that purpose.
Y'all have a nice paranoid day now.

With the amount of information you've provided it's impossible to offer a potential solution.  We can't see your computer so we need to know the details of your problem and setup, i.e.:

will the videos play outside of iPhoto?

  • ITunes will not play in iphoto

I recently upgrade to a new iMac and transferred all my files to the new mac.  iPhoto will no longer play any music from iTunes.  The sample music will play but not iTunes.  My slideshows will not use iTunes music.  Any ideas how this can be fixed?

In iTunes go File -> Library -> Organise Library -> Reorganise Library.
    Then quit and restart iPhoto.

  • IPhone video H.264 will not play in iPhoto '11 Slideshow

    Hello,
I use iPhoto to organize videos and .jpgs; I take videos both with a Sony camera and my iPhone. I often trim videos in iPhoto and then play them as part of a Event or Album, along with .jpgs, using the SlideShow feature before moving on to iMovie or Keynote. Recently I have encountered difficulties with iPhone H.264 videos, particularly in vertical format -- they simply won't play in the iPhoto simple SlideShow and lock it up (a simple X then ends the SlideShow and iPhoto is no longer locked). The vertical iPhone videos work in iMovie if I simply move them there. I have not detected any problems with the Sony videos, which are invariably horizontal. I am not experiencing any other iPhoto issues although my library is >125GB.
         Any Suggestions?
        Thanks for your thoughts.

         @#$^$%^ Computers!
After I realized I could not determine the frame rate (to respond to your post), out of frustration I went back, restored the most troublesome video to original, closed iPhoto, re-opened iPhoto, re-trimed the troublesome video, and .... yep, you guessed it .... it worked fine. It had to be something in the trim process.
I haven't taken time to check the others that were problematic, but I'm confident that was the problem.
@#% how much of my time; how much of your time.....but, still far better than the years I spent watching a rotating hourglass.
Thanks for your interest, your offer to help, and my best to you. (And, my apologies for failing to include the accent grave in your name previously.

  • Videos will not play in iPhoto  6 after upgrade to Snow Leopard

Do I have to upgrade to iPhoto 9 with OS upgrade? Anyone else experience this? Video files are still in tact and Quicktime will play them when opened in Finder.

  • Help videos will not play in iphoto

I used to be able to play videos that I downloaded from my camera onto iphoto, but now I get an error that says The document “CIMG0762.AVI” could not be opened. The movie is not in a format that QuickTime Player understands. Can someone help me please? thanks so much.

"Ok I installed Perian, but my videos still won't play."
Did you repair permissions and restarted your computer after doing the above? If not, suggest that you do so.
Download VLC Media Player which plays avi files & just about anything else you throw at it. Make sure you repair permissions and restart your computer after the installation.

I opened my iPhoto library today which was stored on an external hard drive and several of my videos now will not play at all. The weird thing is that each file shows a duration of 1 second and when I open them it just shows one frame. What the !&%$#@ Where did my original video files go?

Sounds like a good plan, you can never be to safe and having a second External HD is safer than one.
The only thing that I would do different, is setup the 3T as my TimeMachine Backup and then erase and move my Photos, Videos and perhaps even iTunes Media to the 1T. That way you will have room to backup both the Internal Hard Drive and the 1T External Hard Drive to the 3T using TimeMachine.
Take your time, study and use the > Time Machine - Frequently Asked Questions if you get stuck or aren't sure how to make the move.

  • IPhoto will not play song purchased from iTunes in slideshow

IPhoto reports the song as not being authorized on this computer.
When I go to iTunes the songs are all authorized to play on this computer, and they do play in iTunes.
    Here's the message from iPhoto:
This computer is not authorized to play "17 Good Riddance.mp4".
If you purchased this song you can open itunes and authorize this computer to play this song by entering your Apple ID and Password".
When I do this, nothing changes. I can repeat the process a number of times and the purchased song will not play.
Anyone else deal with this and find a solution?

I did the burn and re-import and that works just fine. Would like to resolve this so I do not have to do that work around though.
Haven't posted at the iTunes forum as it seems like more of an iPhoto problem since the songs in question play fine in iTunes. It seems that iPhoto is the program having trouble with the DRM on slideshows.
I'll check around over there though.
Thanks everyone for such quick responses.

  • IPhoto album slideshow will not play in the manually sorted order.

iPhoto Album slideshow will not play in the manually sorted order.

Use a regular slideshow created by "File > New Slideshow".  These will play manually sorted. The instant slideshows cannot be played in a manual sort order.

  • Iphoto will not play H.264 video: error message "The operation couldn't be completed. (OSStatus error -101.)" Any suggestions to fix?

Hi, I am on iphoto 11 version 9.2, Mac OS 10.7.5 using a macbook Pro 2.8Ghz Intel.  All of a sudden I cannot play video (H.264) on iphoto.  I get the message "The operation couldn’t be completed. (OSStatus error -101.)".  I rebuilt the iphoto database and videos played once, since then, they will not play and I continue to get the error message, even if I rebuild the database.
Any thoughts or helpful suggestions from anyone gratefully received.

    Hi Terence,
    Thank you for your help.

  • HT4718 After burning a slideshow from iPhoto export to a DVD, it will not play on my DVD player OS X 10.9.4

iMac 27' OS X 10.9.4 I burned a slideshow from iPhoto export to a DVD and now it will not play back on anything. The player said Unknown disc. What can i do?

I do find that using one of these programs will reduce the sharpness of the photos.
Granted, I've never used iPhoto - I use Photo to Movie for slideshows and various versions of iMovie for videos, but my pics are excellent quality and my videos are shot in 1080p (better camera)  or 720p (small camera) and the results are superb on my TV using both iDVD and Toast. However, I do not encode in iDVD, I simply use it to add a theme and menus. The encoding is done by Photo to Movie, or iMovie 06 HD (the only version ever to process losslessly) and either/both are imported into iDVD as a complete .mov, or Toast.
Since using those methods, I've never had a problem with the sharpness or crispness of my footage. My eyes cannot discern a difference between my "production" and true HD (unless of course I shook the camera while shooting, LOL).
