MacPro (2009) isn't working after I tried to reinstall the original OS. I was previously using Mavericks before I reinstalled the original OS.

My MacPro (2009) was running on Mavericks OS and I was having some issues with it so I tried to reinstall the original OS X which came with the laptop and then I was going to upgrade it back to Mavericks. In the process of doing so, the computer isn't working properly anymore. The install of the original OS X worked just fine and then I installed the Applications CD which came with the computer (iPhoto, Garage Band, etc.). Once the applicaiton install CD finished (which was sucessful), it prompted me to restart the computer. After restarting the computer I was unable to open anything (Safari, Calendar, iTunes, etc). So I tried to restart the computer and now it won't even being me to the login screen. I have tried to restart the computer several times and it just shows a blue screen and never brings me to the log in screen so that I can continue upgrading it to Snow Leopard and then to Mavericks.
Please help. I would appreciate any feedback. Thanks.

Boot an external Mavericks USB disk, wipe, and install, and see if Mavericks works. (There've been reports of problems with some Mac systems; of attempts at downgrades that didn't work.)
It's also possible that the original and unspecified issues with Mavericks were being triggered by a hardware problem, and the underlying problem is becoming increasingly pervasive.
If the Mavericks problems were potentially triggered by hardware, then load and run the hardware diagnostics for the Mac Pro, and see where that gets you.

DVD drive won't work after Mavericks upgrade

I upgraded to Mavericks from Snow Leopard, and ever since, my CD/DVD drive will not work. Discs spin, but then they are ejected. Doesn't matter what type of disc I put in.
The drive was working fine before I upgraded. I have reset the SMC and the NVRAM/PRAM, but the drive still isn't working.
Any suggestions for what else I can try?

Others here wouldnt recommend it, but on a new OS install, since I have a giant pile of HD, ...i just grab another HD and create a new fresh Time Machine backup
after its complete, I take the original HD with the OLD backup and format/erase it.
Im a tad too lazy to wait, as you yourself mentioned, 1 hour for TM just to PREPARE to backup. Nope, no,...not gonna do it.
I updated 4 Macs to Mavericks and id rather make a wholly NEW Time Machine backup on another HD and erase the original.
Since I keep about 12+ redundant archives of my important data, I have no worry on earth of ever losing data.
Time machine is a backup, NOT an archive for vital data.

Imessaging on my wifes ipad2 isn't working. It will recieve messages, but when I try to send them to my iphone or my ipad the send button is grayed out and it won't go.

The file format used by the iOS versions of the iWork apps can only be read by the new iWork apps on your Mac - i.e. Keynote 6, Pages 5 & Numbers 3. Those versions for the Mac require Mavericks, OS X 10.9. The "too old" error on a Mac comes if you are trying to open an iWork '08 or earlier file in the newest apps. If you do have the newest apps you can open the files from your iPad.
If you can't or don't want to upgrade to Mavericks & the newest iWork apps your best option would be to export/share the files from the iPad to a type an older version of iWork can read such as Word, text, Excel, etc.
Or contact AppleCare. They made this mess, let them fix it.

Back to my mac isn't working properly

After downloading Mavericks, (which went without a hitch), I am now receiving an error in system preferences stating: Back to my Mac isn't working properly
because the DNS server isn't responding. Contact your internet service provider for a different DNS server address, enter it in Network preferences and try again.
In reality everything wireless is working; the internet the printer iPad works fine.
I went to the Airport utility and clicked on my Time Capsule and it states: Change Airport base station from using DHCP and NAT to Bridge mode.
I done that and everything related to the wireless router runs real slow, I mean real slow. It took just under 4 minutes for my Time Capsule to recognize the computer. Due to this I received all kinds of errors from the printer from Airport Utility and the iPad.
I need a fix please, I've read all the support documents related to this in the support community and either the answers given I have tried with no success or they do not relate to my situuation.

New to BTMM, I got stung today with the silly DNS problem message. Solution:
1) Flush DNS cache with:
dscacheutil -flushcache;sudo killall -HUP mDNSResponder
2)System preferences > iCloud > untick BTMM then tick it again. The warning should have disappeared.

Just found out that BTMM is not compatible with double NAT. That's not helpful.

What MIDI interface hardware works with Mavericks?

The usual frustrations when anything is upgraded: other things stop working. My Presonus Firebox is not compatible (although it lets me record, just not playback to create an audio track) with Mavericks and I would like to know what device will be. I am using Digital Performer (8.05 now).
This information does not seem to be available online.
I sure wish that the software engineers would give continuity as a very high priority.

HT1535 This isn't working at all... I follow instructions and it doesn't work.. there's no option in !tunes to add to movies... This is a nightmare, I should have stuck with my PC instead...

This isn't working, all I need is to add a couple of movies to my Iphone 4s but itunes doesn't seem to have any option to add movies, videos etc.... Yes, I know this forum has users like me and it's not Apple. I was only venting and, showing my frustration for Apple. You said if I wanted more help I need to give more info...
What kind of info? like what kind of Apple computers I have? the specs? etc. I know I need Itunes on a PC as well to add movies to my Iphone 4s but, I also have a Samsung Galaxy S4 and, that phone all I do is Plug it in to my PC and from there on it's really easy because it gives me the option to let my PC see it as a external HDD to where I can litteraly drag my movies that I want into it.. And, boom! I'm done. With Apple is like oh my god, you need this you need that you need the other thing.. Blah Blah Blah LOL.... But, I'm a stubborn bull and I want to add movies to my Iphone 4s. So, what I do is the following, I plug in my iphone 4s to my macbook pro and Itunes launches by itself, then I click on the iphone 4s on the upperr right corner, right after a list appears with all my music, then I click on where it says Movies on the upper left, then I try to drag a movie into the list and there's an error message that appears telling me that the movie wasn't copied to my iphone because it can't be played.... at this point I gave up and here I am asking for help.
I don't what info you want, I have a iphone 4s, a macbook pro wth OSX Mavericks, 2.6 GHz Intel Core !7 8 GB ram... I also have a Imac which I have put away since we just moved in so, I can't remember the specs but it's about 2 - 3 years older than my macbook pro... Apple seems easy to use when it comes to graphic design, video editing and, working with audio... When it comes to multimedia, it seems not so great. I hope this is enough info... If not just ask me what you guys would need to know.. Thanks for your help... I appreciate it, hopefully I can master the use of Apple just like PC.

Will Snapz Pro X work in Mavericks?

Like others, I'm finding that Snapz quits right after taking a screen shot in Mavericks. I'm trying the approach suggested here:

Basically, an Automator script is created and then attached to a keyboard shortcut. By using the same shortcut that used for Snaz, if Snapz isn't running, this keyboard command will launch it. I'm not sure whether this will adequately salvage the Snapz functions pending an update (in case that ever happens).
Another approach might be along the lines suggested by:

The scripts deal with relaunching Quicksilver. It seems that the Lingon app might be able to relaunch Snapz, and maybe someone knows how to rewrite the script to do the same thing without having to purchase Lingon. Any takers?

Usb ports not working after mavericks install

After installing Mavericks on my mac pro the usb ports are not working for my printer or other usb drives. the only item i can get to be seen via usb is an apple optical mouse. any suggestions would be great.

It sounds like after having updated to Mac OS X 10.9, you are no longer able to use your USB microphone.
I found this article for you to help troubleshoot what may be happening, named:

CS6 still not working on Mavericks

Hey, there! I'm working on a 10.9.2 Mavericks edition on a Macbook Pro. I tried opening After Effects, and it isn't working. I also tried to update it, but it keeps on giving me an error message for the updates! Does anyone know what to do? I need to use After Effects today for a project.

It simply tells me that the update is not for my computer, but everything I've read says that the Adobe After Effects CS6 11.0.4 Update for CS6 is for me.
I'm running on Mavericks OS X and I own CS6 Production Premiere. I don't know what's wrong.

Macbook Pro (Late 2011) Keyboard Light isn't working anymore.

I reinstalled Macintosh OS since then my keyboard lights stopped working.
I have tried :
1. I have tried pressing F5 , F6 keys but they don't even show the icon of light dim and high on screen it didn't worked .
2. I have tried every single option/shortcut in Preferences --> Keyboard pannel still didn't worked.
3. I have tried installing windows using virtual box still it doesn't even work on Windows.
4. I have tried create a guest user it didn't worked there as well.
5. I have tried deleting a file from Library -> Prefrences --> com.apple.iokit.AmbientLightSensor.plist still not working.
6. I have updated my Operating system to Mavericks still it isn't working.
Keyboard pannel in preferences looks like attached image, which has less options then other people's. anyone having any idea about how to resolve this issue?
Any application or anything which may resolve this issue please let me know

IDVD is not working in Mavericks... what now?

I am very upset that iDVD is not working in Mavericks! I need the ability to burn DVDs for family who is unable to access the internet. Any patches or fixes available to make this software usable again? I am very disappointed that Apple would do this without warning users that previously purchased software would be incompatible with the new OS.

I am also having problems with iDVD under Mavericks. I have used iDVD for many years creating DVD's for family members and archiving our vacations. It worked great under Snow Leopard, Lion, and Mountain Lion, but now Mavericks is a different situation.
I have two basic problems, (1) after importing the video I want to use, I play it back to preview and a small band shows up at the top of the screen that is not in sync with the rest of the screen. And (2) when showing a slideshow using standard jpegs there are color issues on playback. Help, I need my iDVD back!
