MPLS benefits over P-to-P Leased Links

Hi,
Benefit of MPLS over traditional P-to-P
is off course a cost. But apart from cost what are techonoloical benefits of having MPLS over leased links. Is'nt MPLS less secure as compared to leased circuit.
In a nutshell what are convincing factor for MPLS over P-to-P leased line.
Sounds too basic :)
Any link on cisco.com or any other is appreciated.
Thanx in advance
Subodh

MPLS VPN's have a direct comparision to other shared access media VPN's like Frame Relay ATM etc. It cant be compared directly to a P2P Private Circuit.
Here is a link comparing MPLS VPN sec to FR and ATM.
http://www.cisco.com/warp/public/cc/so/neso/vpn/prodlit/mpvpn_wp.pdf
Having said that it does not mean there are no loopholes in P2P private circuit and it is completely secure. Looking at the economy and the security provided by MPLS VPN's its comparable to P2P Private Circuit if not better.
But again providing MPLS based VPN;s has more benefits to the service provider that the end customer. For the customer the only major benefits is with scale more number of services would be available to him if using a MPLS VPN at lesser cost when compare to other technology based VPN;s.

  • MPLS-TE over Port-channel on 7206

    Hi Guys,
I need an information: on a 7206vxr (ios 15.2S) I tried to configure an mpls-te over an etherchannel link but it doesn't seems to work (the TE tunnel never go up and the "show mpls traffic-eng tunnel tunnel 0 det" show the reason as "invalid path" but I guarantee that it's absolutely valid).
I tried to search into feature navigator but I don't found any of that: It figure out as 7206 don't support it, it's right?
    Thanks in advance
    Giulio

Hi Giulio, can you please confirm that to me?
In the IOS feature navigator the feature "MPLS TE - Bundled interface support (EtherChannel and MLP)" seems to be available only in 7600 platform and not in 7200 series. And with 7200 series I have had some difficulty with MPLS TE in a port-channel interface.
    Thankyou

my father has itunes account for ipad and my mother for an iphone my father has taken over iphone and needs to link it to his account

iTunes will need to be set up on your computer however you can set up a new Apple ID to use for your iPhone. Really all you need to do is Assign a new Apple ID to your iCloud account.
Follow the link to create a new Apple ID: https://appleid.apple.com/cgi-bin/WebObjects/MyAppleId.woa/
After you do that, on the device you want to assign a new iCloud account go: Settings > iCloud > Delete Account and then sign in with the new Apple ID.
NOTE: This does not effect iTunes, all of your devices can continue to use one shared iTunes account under your original Apple ID for downloading apps and backups. This simply gives iCloud a place to sync the individual devices information and will stop iCloud form merging all the information, such as contacts, with all of your devices.

  • Can you carry L3VPN MPLS packets over Ethernet XConnect?

    Hi All,
Can you carry L3VPN MPLS packets over an ethernet port-based xconnect???
    Current:
    POP_1 >> Physical Circuit <<  POP_2
    Proposed:
    POP_1 >> Provider_Router_1 << ethernet port-based xconnect >> Provider_Router_2 << POP_2
We are cancelling our physical circuits between each POP and going with another provider who is going to carry all our traffic between the POPS using ethernet xconnects. We have a few L3VPN MPLS customers and I wasn't 100% sure if their L3VPN data would be carried over the proposed xconnects.
    Thanks.
    Andy

    Thanks guys for your reply...
One thing that I've never fully understood is the MTU setting you need within the Service Provider's core network (and I've read quite a bit about it).
For example we've cut across to the new xconnect circuit last night and I can get a 1500 byte L3VPN MPLS packet through the Service Provider's core from one PE to another PE via the xconnect (see below). I think this is made up of the payload (1492 bytes) + 2 x Tunnel/VC headers (8 bytes) = 1500 bytes total - so the Service Provider's core has MTU of 1500 bytes (correct me if I'm wrong on this).
Now I don't know if this is good or bad??? What should I be looking for? How do I determine what MTU is required through the Service Provider's core???
    PE_1#ping vrf NSTEST 172.16.100.17 size 1492 df-bit
    Type escape sequence to abort.
Sending 5, 1492-byte ICMP Echos to 172.16.100.17, timeout is 2 seconds:
Packet sent with the DF bit set
    Success rate is 100 percent (5/5), round-trip min/avg/max = 24/25/28 ms
    PE_1#ping vrf NSTEST 172.16.100.17 size 1493 df-bit
    Type escape sequence to abort.
Sending 5, 1493-byte ICMP Echos to 172.16.100.17, timeout is 2 seconds:
Packet sent with the DF bit set
    Thanks.

  • MPLS TE over EtherChannel links

    Hi Sir,
Does anyone run an MPLS TE tunnel across a L3 EtherChannel?
Someone pointed that MPLS TE is not recommended on EtherChannel. Can you explain why?
    Thank you.
    B.Rgds,
    Lim TS

As per RFC standards if any vendor is able to meet these below constartints then he can implement MPLS TE on such a Link Bundle.
    Constraints:
All component links in a bundle should have the same Link Type (i.e.,
point-to-point or multi-access), the same Traffic Engineering metric,
the same set of resource classes at each end of the links, and must
begin and end on the same pair of LSRs.
A Forwarding Adjacency may be a component link; in fact, a bundle can
consist of a mix of point-to-point links and FAs.
If the component links are all multi-access links, the set of IS-IS
or OSPF routers that are connected to each component link must be the
same, and the Designated Router for each component link must be the
same. If these conditions cannot be enforced, multi-access links
    must not be bundled.
Component link identifiers MUST be unique across both TE and
component link identifiers on a particular node. This means that
unnumbered identifiers have a node-wide scope, and that numbered
identifiers have the same scope as IP addresses.
Some vendors have implemented MPLS TE with LACP. Although on Cisco its not implemented on Etherchannel yet.
If there is a very strong reason for you to run MPLS TE on etherchannel, you can put a request to your local Cisco Account team.
Or if you may wait it should be there in the pipeline, still its good to check and confirm.

    Swaroop
    PS: Refer to RFC 4201.

  • Dashboard prompt value not carried over to report in a Link on Dashboard

The Dashboard prompt value is not carried over to the report displayed as a link on the dashboard. The report has the 'Is Prompted' filter. It does not work in both cases:
    1. when the report in the shared folder is specified in the link.
    2. when the report in a different page on the same dashboard is specified in the link.
    Please help.

First change column data format to HTML.
    Then use following syntax:
    '<aa href = "http://server/analytics/saw.dll?Dashboard&PortalPath=%2Fshared%2FPortal%2Ffolder&Page=pagename&Action=Navigate&P0=3&P1=eq&P2=Tablename1.column1&P3=1+'|| cast(Tablename1.column1 as varchar(30)) ||'&P4=eq&P5=tablename2.column2&P6=1+'|| cast(Tablename2.column2 as varchar(30)) ||'&P7=eq&P8=tablename3.column3&P9=1+'|| cast(Tablename3.column3 as varchar(30)) ||'" TARGET="_blank"> <ffont color = #000099>'|| cast(Tablename1.column1 as varchar(30)) ||'</ffont></aa>'
change ffont to font and <aa to <a and </aa to </a

  • Over writing CSS style for links

I've set up a style sheet for the site I'm building which
works great. But we want to have the link style on just one of the
pages different from the rest of the site.
I thought I could just over write it in the styles for that
page to create the look we want. Unfortunately it won't let me do
that and goes back to the site link style.
Is there a simple way to overwrite this style for just the
    one page?
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks!

  • Bookmarks going haywire. multiplying over and over again and also all links have turned into one single links copied into all folders

Sir, all my bookmarks are multiplying over and over again . Although i have been able to restore them to the previous date but all links are now converted to same link website . Not only that it is being synced across all my devices . Please sir kindly help me resolve it. The only links that are correcclty displayed are "most visited " ones.

Problems with bookmarks and history not working properly can be caused by a corrupted places.sqlite database file.
You can check for problems with the places.sqlite database file in the Firefox Profile Folder.

  • MPLS Traffic Shaping/Policing on PE-CE link

    Hi everyone,
We are considering to upgrade our remote sites to MPLS/VPN type of connectivity from ATM/FRASI.
Lets say we take a 10Mb link in the main office and 2-4Mb links for remote sites. Majority of servers (services) reside in main site, so majority of traffic flow will be from main site to remote sites.
    1. Since CE at main site sees all the remote sites "coming" from provider's PE, how can you handle traffic shaping/policing issues on this main site CE?
    2. Do you use MQC based on destination IP to apply shaping/policing configs on the CE-PE interface?
    3. Is it necessary to even bother with this question?
    Thank a lot.
    David

BGP contains a multitude of knobs which allow a SP to control the traffic sent on one PE-CE link as opposed to the other. One can also make use of the Link Bandwidth extended community to control how traffic is distributed among multiple egress PE-CE links.
The VPN scheme is of course compatible with the use of traffic engineering techniques (RSVP-TE based or otherwise) in the backbone network.
A PE may support additional QoS support by means of one or more of the following methods:
-i. One COS per PW End Service (PWES), mapped to a single COS PW at the PSN.
-ii. Multiple COS per PWES mapped to a single PW with multiple COS at the PSN.
-iii. Multiple COS per PWES mapped to multiple PWs at the PSN.

  • I can not activate my clickpad over the buttom in the links corner...

    hi everyone here,
i bought the HP Pavilion G7 1015eg from Media Markt in German for my boss. and i tried to install the driver which i just download it from the HP Drivercenter from the beginning, because i have already bought another Windows 7 professional from Saturn. there is one driver which i could not install, the synaptics touchpad driver for 64 bit Windows 7 professional, i became a trouble windows from the operatinsystem which said this driver is not compatibel for my windows 7 professional 64bit, but i am very true that i downloaded it the right one(for 64bit windows7)from the HP homepage. could somebody check that link and file if the driver it is the right one for the pavilion G7 1015eg Laptop?
i also made systemupdate over microsoft which the synaptics touchpad driver has been listed but...i can not activate my touchpad over the buttom linksabove(the buttom in the links corner), i don't know if there is a configuration or something needed?
i doublecheck my downloadfiles and links, it must be the right one, and i have an other HP Probook 4520s, and i know how to activate this device(double tap).
    best Regard

I have a Presentation to make
What are the Benefits of BOBJ over ORacle OBIEE.
Can some one provide some points or insights

we have dashbaords already built in obiee..we have to have strong case to say BO is better than oracle obiee in order to convince Management to say BO is better solution for BI
Source is SAP for oracle too.
We are trying to create BW cube and them create dashboards on top of BW
    Right now oracle is
we get the data in oracle db from sap thru ODI and then build Dashboards on top if it.

  • Timing over an ONS 15454 SONET link.

    Hello,
Are there any provisioning restrictions on passing timing over a SONET link on the ONS 15454. Here is the senario; I have an OC-48 provisioned over Slot 4, port 1-1 on an MRC-12 card. On the Line provisioning tab, I am unable to set the ProvideSync check box. I need to use the link to time a distant end node. The far link is RX the STU SSM. The local Node is set for external timing with BITS 1 and 2 active and inservice w/PRS. Is there something I am missing?
    TIA,
    Steve

    Steve,
The OC48 port is always providing timing information to the attached device in the S1 byte of the Line Overhead.
The ProvidesSync box is not an indication of whether the port is providing timing.  Rather it is an indication that that port is being used as a timing source  (Line Timing).  If you go to Provisioning->Timing and select that slot/port as a Timing Reference the ProvidesSync box will be checked.
I will upload a Word document with screen shots. It should help clear things up.

  • How can I stop my home page from opening OVER a page from a link I just clicked on?

If I click on a link from an email, Firefox always opens 2 pages with my home page (Google) covering up the page I clicked the link to go to. How can I stop it from doing that?
    == This happened ==
    Every time Firefox opened
== I think since I got the most recent upgrade (3.6.7)

There's a good chance this is related to a bug that kicks in when you do not have Flash running in any tab and you open a new window to a page that does use Flash: suddenly, the previous window (typically the one from which you launched the link or bookmark) comes back to the front.
The details are in this recent thread: [https://support.mozilla.org/questions/955659 Opening New Windows and Shockwave Flash].

  • I want to remove the roll over effect from my promoted link.

    Hi,
I want to remove the hover effect of tiles. I don't want the tittle to slide up when I mouse over the tiles. What will be the way to achieve this?

    Hi,
There are two events fired, one is mouseenter and another one is mouseleave on the tiles.
You can achieve this by removing the mouse enter event with the following script.
    $(".ms-tileview-tile-content").off('mouseenter');
Please mark it answered, if your problem resolved.

  • Voice & Data over building to building wireless link

We have two buildings that are currently connected via a frac-T1. Most of the traffic is data but 2 channels are voice. We want to eliminate the T1 and replace it with a wireless solution. A site survey has been done and we should be ok. The distance between the two buildings is around 4 miles.
Besides the two antennas and bridges, what equipment would we need and how do we accomplish this feat?
    Thank you.

For a straight Aironet install, don't forget the stuff you need to put in a fiber link from the Aironet to the rest of the network (transceivers, converters ... it'll depend on what equipment you already have). A span of fiber will help prevent environmental hazards (catching a power line, lightning) from getting to the rest of the network.
If you want to continue passing the voice, you can probably add a couple 26XX routers at each location with FXS/FXO ports.
You may want to look at some other options for the point-to-point. There are a number of microwave systems (using non-licensed spectrum) that can give you T1 speeds or higher. The interface is generally a V.35 connection and the bandwidth can be carved up like a traditional T1 (X cannels Data, X channels voice).
    Good Luck
    Scott
