MPLS over Serial links with Hardware Compression

We have a core network comprising multiple nodes (2821s) with 256K - 2M Serial links joining them. The network currently support MPLS TE tunnels to provide load balancing across multiple paths within the core network. I am aware that it is not possible to run software compression (STAC) on these links as MPLS requires CEF switching to work and software compression results in process switching. Is it possible to implement hardware compression and CEF switching concurrently and hence MPLS functionality or will packets still be process switched?

Martin,
thanks for the suggestion. It works correctly but has highlighted what I believe to be an IOS bug. With MPLS packet debugging enabled on an intermediate router it works fine. Without MPLS packet debugging the intermediate router forwards the paket untagged out the wrong interface. Time for a TAC case.

  • Slow Query over Database Link with Bind Variable

I have a query over a DB link, with all tables on the remote database.
If I use a bind variable (from Toad), the query takes 4 minutes. If I replace the bind variable with a constant or substitution variable, it takes 1 second.
The query runs fine when run directly on the remote database using bind variable.
    9.2.0.7

    Look up "Bind variable peeking"
What's happened is you have an execution plan that differs from the one with the constant. Why? My bet is that Oracle "peeked" at the bind variable to help it decide which execution plan to build. It then cached it. It probably cached an execution with an index when it should be doing a full table scan or a hash join instead of a nested loop. It's hard to say specifically what it is.
Try this, flush your shared pool and rerun the query with the bind and let us know if it takes 1 second or 4 minutes. If it takes 1 second, then that was probably it.

  • Ethernet over Public link with Cisco 65XX Series

We are transferring some equipment from one datacenter to another and we do not have private line connectivity between them at the current time.
We are hoping to be able to temporarily be able to establish some type of Layer2 connectivity between the facilities to help allow us to spread out the migration into 2 events.  We have Cisco 65XX series switches at the core at both facilities and I am wondering what we might be able to use to make this happen?
EoMPLS is out as we have to be able to extend the layer2 functionality across carrier networks and L2TPv3 is not supported on Cisco 65XX from what I have read / checked on our switches (if there is an IOS version that does support it, please let me know).
I have read a bit about VPLS over GRE but I am not clear on the configuration and/or if it supported as it references MPLS at various points within the documentation that I have read.
    Any guidance would be appreciated.

I've absolutely no idea if this would help in your case.
But anyway, I think 6500 handles DMVPN. May be MPLS over DMVPN would be a solution?

  • Map Traffic over GE links with Etherchannel in 4500 platform

    Hi,
Does anybody have experience with the command "show platform software etherchannel..." over 4500s?
    For instance:
    sw#sh platform software etherchannel port-channel 3 map ip 10.1.1.1 10.1.1.3
Map port for Ip 10.1.1.1, 10.1.1.3 is Gi3/3(Po3)
NOTE: Software forwarded traffic will use Gi3/1(Po3)
We are concerned about the "Software Forwarded Traffic". One could think that is related to CPU forwarded traffic (L2 control traffic eg, CDP, PAgP, etc etc).
However in some tests we are suspecting that ICMP traffic is passing through that link instead of the the link mentioned as "map port" (ICMP traffic not originated nor received at the switch).
Is this command 100% reliable ?
    Thanks

You can use the following command to verify which type of traffic (source/destination,
mac/ip/l4-port) would select which member port within etherchannel.
show platform software etherchannel port-channel map mac
    ex :
    Cat4507#$e etherchannel port-channel 2 map mac 0000.0000.0000 1111.1111.1111
Map port for mac 0000.0000.0000, 1111.1111.1111 is Fa4/48(Po2)
NOTE: Software forwarded traffic will use Fa4/48(Po2)
Use the above command for a channel that is up.

  • Propagation over DB link with connection qualifier

I have been unable to get propagation between two 10.2.0.4 databases running across a dblink that includes a connection qualifier. The dblink is a fixed user link created like:
    CREATE DATABASE LINK "DB4.WORLD@TRAINING"
    CONNECT TO TRAINING
    IDENTIFIED BY <pw>
    USING 'DB4';
An "ORA-02019: connection description for remote database not found" error is thrown when AQ tries to propagate the message.
    If the dblink is recreated
    CREATE DATABASE LINK "DB4_TRAINING.WORLD"
    CONNECT TO TRAINING
    IDENTIFIED BY <pw>
    USING 'DB4';
along with the underlying schedules and subscribers everything works fine. The "DB4_TRAINING.WORLD" name does not comply with global names which is what brought this all up. At this point the global_names parameter is still set to false on both databases.

    Hi,
Then as I understand you do
    CREATE DATABASE LINK "DB4.WORLD"
    CONNECT TO TRAINING
    IDENTIFIED BY <pw>
    USING 'DB4';Regards,

  • MPLS over ATM - VP Tunnel (cell) or VC (frame)?

Does anybody use the MPLS over VP tunnel with the Cisco 8540 ATM MPLS core? Is it a stable solution or one should better leave the ATM MPLS cell mode and convert to frame mode over ATM?

Both Cell mode and frame mode are stable solutions. But the scenario where we use them are different. I see that Cisco 8540 ATM MPLS Core is used. In this case, I would say that cell mode MPLS is a better solution for the following reason(s); In normal (non-MPLS) ATM core the L2 topology might be different from L3 topology. Say for example, a destination IP (a.b.c.d) might be shown as 3 hops (routers) away but there can be even 10 or more ATM switches in between. In this case the L2 topology might not be an optimal path. Hence we go for cell mode operation, where we form a full mesh topology and hence an optimal path.

  • Cursor arrow does not become hand-with-finger over some links.

Recently, on some web pages, the arrow cursor doesn't become a pointing finger when placed over a link on a web page. Usually these are links at the top of the screen. If I try to right-click to open the link, the "open" is gray (inactive). For instance, on the current Firefox page, I cannot click on the Sign Out, Inbox, Other Applications, etc. I cannot click on the Search Firefox Help display.
However, I can click on the Features, Mobile, Add-ons, etc. at the bottom of the screen.

Recently, the Yahoo Toolbar and the Babylon extension have been reported to cause that problem. They seem to overlap invisibly over the top of the web page display. If you have either or both, uninstall or disable them/it, or see if an update is available that solves the problem.

Manufacturer produce material with their own serial number and its own series. We produce our own serial number and Maintain the manufacturing serial number in serial number master data for traceability purpose. In  IQ01 there is one filed available to maintain  manufacturing serial number(SERGE- FIELD NAME, TABLE-ITOB). In case any enquiry come from customer like your particular serial number is damage or quality issue. In that case if that component procure from supplier . we  inform supplier about there defective plant and claim on same.

To begin with the last question: The status as observed is in fact normal behaviour.
Spoofing is in other words "faked up". An interface that's inactive normally goes down which also causes all routes running over it to be dropped from the routing table. This status was implemented to allow dialers to keep their static routes also when the dialer was inactive. Check with the command "show dialer" to see if there is any undesired calling action.
Use an access-list to allow traffic to activate the dialer.

    Leo

  • Alpha channel weirdness with hardware MPE

To begin, I'm using a GTX 480 with the hack, so I'm not going to complain too loudly it this is a result of using as-yet unsupported hardware. However, I just want to verify with other hardware MPE users (both legit and unsupported) if this issue is happening on other systems.
I've noticed some oddities with imported PSD files and the way that their alpha channels are rendered with hardware MPE, versus software MPE. I'm putting up a couple frame grabs with GPU acceleration turned on and off at couple different point where I'm using the PSDs. Forgive the PNG compression; you should be able to see the difference, nevertheless.
First up, 100% opaque text over a background. The edges of the text are... fuzzy, maybe?
    Software:
    Hardware:
Second, a couple layers Fast Blurring and fading in. The logo is 100% opaque, and there is a separate "glow" layer (rasterized in PS) behind it. Pretty obvious, here...
    Software:
    Hardware:
Finally, a mostly-transparent logo bug. The hardware version is not as transparent.
    Software:
    Hardware:
The only difference between each of these examples is that I turned on or off GPU acceleration in the Project Settings; it's the same PSD for each grab. I've also noticed that standard cross dissolves are a little chunky when dissolving to or from a graphic (even a flattened version); the opacity change is not as linear as it usually is. In software mode, this goes away.
Anyone witnessed similar results? Again, I want to believe that this is just a result of using the GTX 480 and the hack, without official support. It could very well be the nVidia driver, too, I suppose, but I haven't tried rolling back to check that (I'm running the latest versions).
    Thoughts?

    I can confirm this.
I do not think its the psd but the Alpha Channel in general.
The colours are off when in MPE (Nvidia GTX 285)
    I filed a bug report.

  • Color management for flash player with hardware acceleration

I have tested the color management for flash player 10.2 with and without hardware acceleration (GPU) on different PCs with different video cards.
Videos that are played via flash without hardware acceleration on PC have proper color as designed in After Effects.
When I switch on hardware acceleration, the color shifts, for example green becomes lighter, although grey values are OK. I have tried this by writing a  small Flash programme for playing a movie; I wrote two programmes one with color management as described in the article "Color correction in Flash Player" http://www.adobe.com/devnet/flash/quickstart/color_correction_as3.html and another one without color management. In both cases I got the same color shift when hardware acceleration was turned on. From the result I concluded that color management does not work when hardware acceleration is on.
My question is: are there any plans to have color management for flash player with hardware acceleration (GPU) in the near future?
We need to play complex high definition movies streaming through a high speed local area network that need hardware acceleration to avoid stuttering.

Hi, LOL at my screen moniker. That's interesting that the FF beta has an Option for that. The only problem, is that I have heard that each browser must UNcheck the H.A. I'm sure you'll find out.
Hope that works at least for FF. Let me know if you have time.
I've been checking out Apple TV and Google TV. Just saved the links and some info, haven't had time to go further. I'd prefer Apple TV over Google tho.
I have a 55" HD Sony/Blu-ray Surround Sound Speakers, etc. I hooked up the VGA cable for Internet, and WOW on the Screen/Monitor!! Now I'm thinking about the iPhone 4 with VZ too, on their pre-order list for 2/3/11!
Hard to keep up with the Technology, moving faster today for some reason.
We are under the Snow & Ice warning, getting it now. Hope I don't lose power! If so, I'll be offline for sure.
If I find anything on that H.A. for IE, I'll let you know.

  • Serial Numbers with CiscoWorks LMS 3.2

    Hi all,
Is there a way to find the Serial Numbers of all your Cisco devices using CiscoWorks LMS 3.2?
    Thanks in advance,
    Carles

You can run a hardware report under RME > Reports > Report Generator > Inventory > Hardware Report.  However, some devices are not aware of their serial number electronically.  In these cases, you can add the serial number using the "snmp-server chassis id" command so that RME can pick it up.  You can check this link with details on how the serial number is obtained via SNMP.
