MPLS Sizing - Enterprise Bandwidth Usage by Application

Hello Everyone,
In an effort  to estimate bandwidth usage on an MPLS upgrade and rollout we have been  tasked with determining what bandwidth is required without use of  baseline measurements on live data.
Would anyone have a table or chart  of applicaitons and their associated bandwidth requirements?
For example
SAP
Salesforce.com SAAS
desktop  video conferencing
Email with attachments
etc
Thank you  for your help,
Matthew

yeah... you bet, i considered all the options with access to the network.
Here is the scoop - Network is on 200 locations (MPLS), and I need to estimate for future applications.
I  really really really wish for a chart that tells me BW per user per App...
dreaming?

  • How can i calculate the bandwidth usage of my Azure subscription?

    Hi,
I know currently there is no API which provide bandwidth usage details. Is there any other way to find out my subscription's bandwidth usage?
    Thank you!

    Hi,
Please have a look at below thread.
    Here is a snippet.
The Azure SDK doesn't provide any billing or consumption information programatically. As lgorek stated, you can approximate usage with IIS And WCF performance counters. And you'll also be able to use your own logging to track traffic from different users.
However, you won't be able to track bandwidth consumed when users download content from blob storage. Well, you could, but only if all of your blobs were private and you streamed their content through your web application instead of direct links on your web
    pages .

  • Measure the Network bandwidth usage

    Hi,
For application server, is there any Oracle tool to be used to measure the Network bandwidth usage?

    Hi,
The following policies are supported in Window 7
Computer Configuration | Administrative Templates | Network | Background Intelligent Transfer Services (BITS) |Set up a maintence schedule to limit the maximum network bandwidth used for BITS Background transfers
or Set up a work schedule to limit the maximum network bandwidth used for BITS Background transfers
    see this link
    http://blogs.msdn.com/b/wmi/archive/2011/02/02/bits-more-flexible-bandwidth-limit-policies.aspx
And download speed is also related with your network connection, your ISP, setting in your router, your system perfrormance...

  • N/W Bandwidth usage

    All,
I was wondering of there is any documentation around the typical network bandwidth usage by the BOE XI R2 application (InfoView/WebI)? As part of the deployment of some new servers here, before they can allocate us the appropriate bandwidth, the network team wants us to give them some numbers around what are the typical data transfer rates on the network pipe. For this, we have assessed the total number of concurrent users of the application, but there isn't really any way for us to gather the data usage rates.
Does anyone know if the PSO/PG/SC or another group has any information about this - where they may have run tests and gathered results fro typical data bandwidth usage rates when running WebI reports via InfoView?
I know this is a rather unusual request, but we don't have an option - the network team won't move until we have a good backing from the vendor (BOBJ/SAP) about the "recommended" numbers for this!
Any help will be greatly appreciated!
    Cheers,
    Sarang

    Denis,
Thanks for the response! That was my first answer to them also, and something that I have already asked the team to take a look at on our side.
In the meanwhile, I wasn't sure if the PG or PSO runs any benchmark tests every now and then, from data gathered from the the most typical app usage by a group of clients. I remember seeing something in the past about load testing from the PG, but not sure if something like this exists for n/w b/w usage.
I think your idea still is the best starting point, but benchmark results (if any) would be a great help!

  • Understand the bandwidth usage on production.

Hi all, i try to understand the bandwidth usage on production time on the network. I took one C3560G with all device are conected to 1000Mb/s.
    I make: show int gi0/1
      5 minute input rate 320000 bits/sec, 555 packets/sec
      5 minute output rate 9787000 bits/sec, 821 packets/sec
The total is: 10.1 Mb/sec (on this port)
In all active port the summary is: 47 Mb/s (input rate+output rate in all ports)
So, i used 4,7% of the total of the bandwidth. And in cacti (by snmp) software i see one device transfer data with a maximun of 24Mb/s. Why don't use more bandwidth if is available?
Some can give me a hand to understand this?
    Thanks!

So, the bandwidth is limited for the windows size. How i manualy set the RWIN? in a LAN is posible?
Yes, it's often possible.  How depends on the host.  Search the Internet for BDP and your host IOS, and you'll likely find how to adjust.
    PS:
BTW, too large a RWIN can cause a sender to send too many packets at one time which can result in drops.  Have you checked your transit interfaces for drops?
Ideally, RWIN should be sized for BDP; not smaller and not larger.

  • Thunderbolt bandwidth usage App?

HI there - can anyone point me to an application that allows me to monitor the realtime bandwidth usage of each of the thunderbolt buses on the nMP. There are regular times during my work where I need to know if I'm maxing out a particular bus, or whether I could be loading it up more by taking a device off another bus. So if anyone knows of an app that allows me to quickly see how each bus is being utilised that would be awesome. Cheers.

  • Publication of the big-sized Enterprise projects from Project Professional 2013 to Project Server 2013 takes about 60+ minutes.

    Dear Sirs,
I need your support over the following MS EPM 2013 issue:
Publication of the big-sized Enterprise projects from Project Professional 2013 to Project Server 2013 takes about 30+ minutes. We
need to reduce this total publication time down to acceptable working values 10+- minutes.
    Environment information:
Single App Server (Virtual): 16 Gb RAM, x64 4xCPU, HDD > 50 GB free disk space, OS Windows Server 2012 Standard Edition x64 Service
Pack 1, MS SharePoint Server 2013 and MS Project Server 2013 with CU December 2013 (KB 2850024) applied.
Single RDBMS MS SQL Server (Virtual): 8 Gb RAM, x64 4xCPU, HDD > 200 GB free space, OS Windows Server 2012 Standard Edition x64 Service
Pack 1, MS SQL Server 2012 x64 SP 1 Enterprise Edition.
We have 1Gbit LAN between APP, DB server and 1Gbit LAN between APP and Proj Prof Client.
Yes, we are on the way of migrating to the Prod environment
with 3-tiered architecture (with SP1 slipstream and CU December 2014 applied), but this issue also
    presents there.
    Project’s file information:
Tasks in the file: [~4900], resources in the file [~396] enterprise task’s custom fields used in the file [~23].
Project save procedure for this new project would last about 7 minutes. Project publication would last about 47 minutes. We noticed that
tasks synchronization process took about 1 second for each ~2,5 tasks, to add them to the sharepoint tasks list. So for all 5148 tasks it took about 5148/3/60 =  34 minutes. Other 13 min was used for reporting database publication and other tasks relevant
    for new sharepoint site creation.
    Case 1: Issue description:
During the Enterprise project’s file save and publication we have the following sharepoint 2013 log messages:
    07.31.2014 12:43:17.22 Microsoft.Office.Project.Server (0x0358) 0x3D5C SharePoint Foundation Monitoring b4ly High Leaving Monitored Scope
(Persisting list changes). performing time =376.068676326181 22dca99c-4696-70f1-e9e2-06851d0bcffd
    07.31.2014 12:43:17.69 Microsoft.Office.Project.Server (0x0358) 0x3D5C SharePoint Foundation Monitoring b4ly High Leaving Monitored Scope
(Persisting list changes). performing time =361.652807828928 22dca99c-4696-70f1-e9e2-06851d0bcffd
It shows that sharepoint spend at least ~350 milliseconds (or 0,35 sec*4900 tasks = 1715 sec, or 28,5 min) for each task update during
project publication. And we also have another log file that shows that about 0,7 sec (or 0,7 sec*4900 tasks = 3430 sec, or 57 min) sharepoint spend for save each task in project file to project server. So total save and publication time more then 60+ minutes
for that project file. The same result we have even if user didn’t do any changes at the project file.
We use only enterprise projects (dbo.MSP_EpmProject_UserView.projectvisibilitymode = «False»), and do not use sharepoint tasks lists,
but the synchronization between MSP Plan and SharePoint tasks list works at any case.
    Case 2: Issue description:
    - For the second test we created a new project with new sharepoint project’s site on basis of our «issue» project, with total amount
of tasks in it of 5148 (yes, we increased the tasks list default limit at the sharepoint site up to 6000 items in it – standard limits for sharepoint view list – 5000 items).
    - Project save procedure for this new project would last about 7 minutes. Project publication would last about 47 minutes. We noticed
that tasks synchronization process took about 1 second for each ~2,5 tasks, to add them to the sharepoint tasks list. So for all 5148 tasks it took about 5148/3/60 =  34 minutes. Other 13 min was used for reporting database publication and other tasks
relevant for new sharepoint site creation.
    -Then we deleted the
tasks list for that new test project from the sharepoint site and republish the project plan one more time. This time project save procedure took about 7 minutes, project publication about 2 minutes and 3 minutes for other relevant queue jobs. So total time
    is 12 minutes.
As a conclusion: yes, we have determined
the exact problem - during synchronization process (from Project Server to SharePoint) it perform copying all tasks and related data from Project to SharePoint in spite of fact that you changed only ONE task or ALL of them. At any case, synchronization will
copy ALL of them from Project Server to SharePOint task’s list.
Our workaround is to disable the task’s synchronization for such big-sized project plans:
    – to delete the SharePoint «tasks» list at the SharePoint site tied with project plan.
    - or deattach the SharePoint site from the project plan.
Thank you for reading this topic, please if you also forced with such issue provide us any known workaround or maybe any official response
\ feedback from MS about it.
    Thank you in advance,
    Best Regards, Andrey

Regarding my topic, I also said that every time when sync works it updates All items from project’s plan at Project Server to corresponded task’s list at SharePOint server. Inspire of the fact that you changed only One task or group /
all of them at your project’s plan.
And it seems to me and my colleagues that it’s probably (maybe) a “bug” at the product. Here is what we have if looked a little bit closer to the code:
Share Point determines what task to sync from Project’s plan to sharepoint list. To do that sharepoint needs to know was that task changed or not, based on the following fileds (check SQL stored procedure “[MSP_READ_TASKS_FOR_SYNCRONIZATION]”):
    TASK_UID    TASK_NAME    TASK_START_DATE    TASK_FINISH_DATE    TASK_PCT_COMP    TASK_PARENT_UID    TASK_OUTLINE_NUM
    WSS_LISTITEM_UID   TASK_ID    TASK_IS_ACTIVE
We noticed that at any case synchronization performs for all tasks, EXCEPT the ROOT one. Then we looked at the comparison of TASK_PARENT_UID field. So sharepoint compares TASK_PARENT_UID with ParentID (this is internal name for lookup
field “Tasks” at the Sharepoint, and it stores their values at the format "ID;#Title").
    And comparison performs like following:
    SharePoint looks for Task at the Tasks’s list corresponded to Project’s plan with ID represented at the TASK_PARENT_UID field. Then it takes SharePoint ListItem ID (“int” type) and store it to the “num” parameter;
    num = this.GetCachedListItemByUniqueId(listItem.ParentList, nullable.Value).ID;
2.Then it compares “num” with task’s “ParentID” at SharePOint as follow with operator “!=”:
    ((SPItem) listItem)["ParentID"] != (System.ValueType) num
       3. If comparison was success (true) – then it tell us that values (at the Project’s plan for tasks) was changed, then it need to be synchronized. Corresponded Method setup “true” flag, and then returns it.
The “bug” is that this expression at the Step 2 will always return “true”, because in fact it compares “string” (see above – that this is lookup field at SharePoint side)
with “number”. For example if the parant task ID is “55”, then we get:
    "55;#Task 1" != 55
And by the rules of .Net the “string” will never equal “number”
Furthermore this is approved by the SharePoint logs:
In that case we always get the note “Setting ParentID to” at the logs (we see it if turns on Verbose for “Project Server” -> “Sharepoint Integration” category).
So at any case of publishing project’s plan we always get that note at the logs for tasks that have Parent task, and we have Parent for all of them EXCEPT the ROOT one, exact logs represented further:

  • Bandwidth usage with homesharing

I have recently found my bandwidth being used while streaming from Macbook Pro to Apple TV whilst using Home Sharing. Watching a 1.2 GB movie streamed from iTunes to Apple TV uses 1.2 GB of bandwidth!
I have reset my Apple TV but the problem continues.
I have disconected the Bell modem from the internet and the problem goes away. The Macbook streams efficiently to the Apple TV using the home wireless network.
Has anyone encountered this problem? And, more importantly, can anyone suggest a solution.
Thanks for any help you may be able to provide.

    Hi diesel vdub
I am definitely using the Computers icon of my Apple TV. I have factory reset the modem but the issue remains. As I mentioned before when the modem is on, but disconnected from the internet, movies and videos stream fine to the Apple TV with no significant bandwidth usage.

  • WRT160N Bandwidth usage

Does this router monitor or meter bandwidth usage? Using Vista Home Premium OS, two other computers with WMP54GS and WMP54G PCI adapters and a PSP.
Can it be configured to monitor or meter usage? Can I see the actual usage in real time?
Question 2: (I can ask this elsewhere if you want) Is there a way to extend the antenna on WRT54G & S adapters since they tend to become shielded by the computer case itself?
    Thanks

No Linksys router do not monitor band width.nor they can be coinfigured to do so. You can use high gain antennas for the adapters.

  • 100 percent bandwidth usage

I have two 2 Cisco 2821-VK/9 routers between 2 offices. The connection between the 2 is a 2 Meg diginet line.
When ever I copy a file between the two sites that is more than 1 Gb in size, the bandwidth usage is 100 % and it takes a very long time to complete.
Could you please advice what I should do.
    Regards
    Cyril

    Hi Cyril,
I'll assume since you're posting in the UC section that your question in some way relates to voice/video traffic on that link and perhaps not just to the length of time taken to copy large files.
you might want to consider implemented a QoS policy on your network if there isn't one already in place.
You can start with some light reading here.
    http://www.cisco.com/en/US/docs/voice_ip_comm/cucm/srnd/5x/50nstrct.html#wp1043960
It won't make your 1Gb files copy faster but it can help stop them choking off your other network traffic.
    regards,
    Paul

  • What is the actual bandwidth usage?

When I use Adobe Connect I am online and broadcasting for about 4 hours a day, for 10 days at a time. I only do screen sharing and voice -- no video.
I have DSL Internet. The DSL upload speeds are very poor (under 1Mb). To speed things up, I thought I'd look into getting a 4G hotspot, but I'm worried about actual bandwidth usage, since such plans have a practical limit of 5 or 10Gb per month.
My off-hand guess is that If I were to watch a video of myself, I guess it would be a couple of gigs for a four hour, non-HD video. So by that very rough guestimate, I'd hit 20Gb pretty easily over the 40 hours of my meeting. Is that right the way to think about it?
Has anyone monitored actual consumed bandwidth for a simple meeting of one person talking and sharing his screen? I'm not looking for definitive answers -- just some ballpark estimate of what such a meeting consumes each hour...
    Thanks! :-)

Page 22 of this document will give you some numbers that will allow you to estimate the total data used for a meeting. Keep in mind these numbers are what Adobe saw as average consumption, yours may be higher or lower.

    Hi Fabian,
Thanks for your interest in Typekit!  The font licensing through Typekit does not include the option to embed the fonts in a native app. In order to use a font in an app, you will need to purchase a separate license from the foundry.
For more details, please refer to the "Typekit Font Licensing" help page.
We hope to be able to support embedded fonts in the future, but it isn't available at this time. Sorry I couldn't be of more help; please let me know if you have any other questions.
