MPLS-TE on 7600?

Does anyone have links to MPLS-TE 'tunnel mpls' support for 7600 series? Is the extent of MPLS support in the 7600 limited to MPLS VPN and EoMPLS?
Thanks,
Greg

Mainly looking for the basics right now.

  • MPLS PE/P 7600 or ASR 1000

    hi,
We are planning to change our 7206VXR as P/PE routers.  Currently we only have 2 nodes that is running on STM-1.  on each node we have 7206VXR NPEG2 that is acting as PE and P router.
our requirement is getting bigger we will be upgrading our WAN links to STM-4 soon (and to STM-12 in the future) and we will also be adding more nodes.
I'm confused on what platform would be best for our network, 7600 or  ASR1000......7600???? 7606 or 7604?      ASR 1000???? ASR1004 or ASR 1006.
I want my router to accomodate the growth in the network.
I need your advise/expertise on this.
    Thanks in advance....
    Rachelle

    Hi,
ASR1k runs IOS-XE, which is IOS. It does not run IOS-XR. ASR9k runs IOS-XR.
The newer platforms, like ASR1k, ASR9k, have more throughput, while 7200 e.g. has a bigger
range in different kinds of port adaptors. If you only plan to use ethernet interfaces for example, then
you could only look at the newer platforms like ASR1k, ASR9k, or even 7600 and choose
a specific model based on the number of ports you'd need.
    Thanks,

  • MPLS L3 Route - 7600

    Hi,
we have a MPLS L3 between our branches, recently we are facing problem with branches connecivites.
our setup is 7609 router connected to CE 3900 branch router, we are using a Interface Vlan to route behind the CE subnets.
CE using sub interface with 802.1q to interconnect with right vlan on the PE. the issue is that we are able to ping the P2P ip between
PE-CE, while the subnets behind CE including physical CE inside IP is not pingable, some time if we initiate the ping from CE source traffic
from inside interface then, bidirectional communication ping is working for some time then it stop.
correct vrf route and redisirbution already one place, same setup is used for hundred of sites, only new sites getting this issue.
the more interesting thing, while we are unable to ping inside CE IP, some hosts/Servers IP are reachable and work fine.
we try to get any bug that might related to the same issue without any luck.
    PE:  CISCO7609
    IOS: c7600s72033-advipservicesk9-mz.122-33.SRE5.bin
    any help will be appreicated.
    Mohamed.

    Hi Mohammed
Are you trying to ping from remote side ?
Can you provide interface configuration between CE & PE, and routing protocol configuration between CE & PE
If you have EBGP, have you configured ebgp next-hop-self ?
Did you try to traceroute from both side and see where it's blocking ?

  • Cisco 7600 in MPLS

    Hello,
    1)
    I have a question regarding Cisco 7600/6500 ( sup720 exactely) in MPLS.
I've read in documentation and also in some forum posts that "show mpls cef" is not MPLS aware command and should be used only for IP traffic. But still in some Cisco documents you can find that it is recommended on Cisco 7600/6500 for MPLS to use show mls cef instead of show ip cef (wether it is P or PE device in MPLS).
Does anyone know what is true?
    2)
Also when load balancing is involved in MPLS with Cisco 7600/6500 (sup720)
P=======PE (P and PE are 7600 and there are two paralle link with the same cost between them).
In documentation can be found that in MPLS, CEF is still in charge for load sharing (src-dst IP header based) except for hardware based platforms.
Since 7600 is hardware based platform does it have some other load sharing method or it is also CEF based?
    Thanks in advance.
    Regards,
    A.

    Hi Prima,
This question has been already answered several times and the answer is still the same :-) : it's not supported on 7600 platform due to hardware limitation.

  • L3 mpls network with out P router, all PE to PE plus daisy chainging

Guys, is it possible to run a core l3 MPLS network over 7600s and 3800s with out any P routers? The reason i aak is because of the particular situation where we will have to daisy chain PE routers due to lack of fiber.
    any thoughts?

As martin says absolutley limited problems with this it will work a charm UNTIL yo urun into scaling issues. You are daisy chaining all the PEs which would also suggest to me that you are daisy chaining your RRs. In an mpls network the RR's have enough state to handle to keep them busy enough without also having to deal with passing labels about the network. Also you will have any cisco account team breaking down your door putting the fear of god into you for not having at least 2 P routers ;-). So yes you can indeed run it like you say but the lifetime of your network will be very limited indeed. If your not an SP then dont be concerned - unless you are an enterprise with 10000000s routes then id start to worry. Oh they (cisco) also state that PEs also have enough to do in their life without passing labelled packets about the place. sit and think about what your poor PE is having to do daily it could be 100 vrfs routing tables, which in turn means layer 3 lookups to find out where the packet has to go, qos, multicast, bgp, ospf, rip, eigrp, your own internal IGP, TE tunnels, RSVP - this poor router has enough to do without also adding transit traffic. ;-)

  • VPLS on 7600 HW Requirement

    Hi all,
I'm planning my new BB MPLS with 3 7600 like PE. On the edge side I've interface module 7600-ES20-GE3C and on the core side WS-X6704-10GE: does it work?
    CE--edge-1G---7600---10G--core-MPLS/VPLS
My doubt is about the core side...I don't understand if I need ES module on core side too or if VPLS can works with WS-X6704 module too.
I konw that there are different restriction on WS-X6704 module aobut vpls architecture but I don't understand if they are for edge side or for core too.
    Many thanks for your support
    Regards

    Hi,
On the edge side of the network, you can use almost any card, but on the core side, you need a card that is able to do more advanced services. Such cards includes ES-series and SIP-series.
For 10G on the core side of your network, you can use these cards:
    - ES20 2-port 10G card
    - ES40 4-port 10G card
    - SIP400 with 1-port 10G version 2
    - SIP600 with 1-port 10G
In terms of performance, you probably will be better suited with the ES-cards, but they are rather expensive in terms of feature licenses.
    Hope this helps a bit...

  • QOS for Routing updates, LDP, etc

    Hi.
We are needing to provide QOS to our voice traffic and we were thinking in configure Precedence 7 to this traffic. The traffic goes through an MPLS Network of 7600 as PE and 12000 as P. Can we configure the routing traffic, LDP and other signaling generated on the routers to use a service class as if the traffic were marked as precedence 6? how can we mark this traffic as precedence 6 changing the default? Is 7 the default value?
    Thanks

    Hello Pedro,
I did some tests years ago
all routing protocols including OSPF, LDP and BGP uses precedence 6 with the execption of some RSVP-TE messages that are sent out with precedence 0.
Precedence 7 is not used in protocol messages.
However, the recommended value for voip bearer packets is precedence 5 that fits with DSCP EF Expedite Forwarding.
Using precedence 7 is not recommended but you can and you don't need to remark signalling packets.
I would use precedence 5 and I did in the past and also now we use it for voip.
    Hope to help

  • 7600 as Backbone router for MPLS core

I have 7600's and 7500's in my backbone and 7200's on the edge. My question is that when I look at the feature navigator the 7600 with Sup 720 is missing a lot of basic features required to be a core router of an MPLS Backbone. Features like Traffic engineering fast reroute, MPLS enabled Netflow are missing on this platform, is this platform not a good candidate to be a Backbone router for a service provider offering MPLS services??? 7500 on the other hand it seems 7500 seems to have support for the MPLS related features.

Not sure what version you where looking at but...

  • Mpls,vpls and ES20G module for 7600

    hi all,
do i need a ES20G module on my 7600 in order to perform VPLS,6VPE mpls and so on...
is this module just a 'speeding' module for these fonctionnalities ?
(it is very expensive and the license too)
Can i implement these features without it ??
Does someone use vpls on 7600 without that module ?
    Thanks for answer

Yes you can run VPLS without ES-20 using any WAN OSM or SIP-600 faing the core.
Although there would be cost difference in each module including ES-20G, but these modules have been designed with different objectives and requirements in mind. As each module provides you with either a certain media type density(ES-20G) or OSM , or the flexibility of media type usage etc (SIP-600).
So you can weigh the pros and cons with each module including the cost marked to the budget and take a call.

    Swaroop

  • MPLS support GEC on 7600 with SUP-720-3BXL ?

    Hi all
Could someone let me know does 7600 with SUP-720-3BXL support full MPLS, MPLS-TE, QoS, ... on Gigabit Ethernet channel interface ?
Which port interface (LAN/WAN, ...) does 7600/SUP-720-3BXL support full MPLS features ?
And does 10GBASE XENPAR Modules support full MPLS features ?
    thanks you

The Cisco 7200 Series offers numerous LAN and WAN interfaces for diverse connectivity requirements. Modular processors for the Cisco 7200 Series provide flexibility as their need grows. The three onboard Gigabit Ethernet interfaces,in the Cisco 7301 VAM2+ security router bundle provides the same high performance. For further information verify the following URL:

  • 7600 platform for MPLS based L2 and L3 services

    Hi,
We are planning to deploy 7600s (testing to be done) for L2 and L3 services. Has anyone out there found some issues with both the layers functioning in unison on the same.
    Thanks
    Cheers,
    ~sultan

    Hello Charles,
Thanks for you reply, actually I wanted to know more specific details, like IOS and modules being used by others, which you have stated.
I am planning to go for SIP-200 and SIP-400 with STM-1 POS, 2xGIG and FE8 modules.
Services would be EoMPLS, including VPLS and MPLS/BGP IP VPNs.
    Thanks

  • URGENT: MPLS P/ PE support on 7600/Sup720-BXL and 3750 Metro switch

I'm need to design a MPLS network for a Cable Operator.
They will start small with some Cisco CMTS doing MPLS-PE and needing only two devices to aggregate these PE and delivering Services (Internet connection, VoD, ...) , so they will need to work has P/PE.
For that I want to know if it's possible to:
    1 - Use 3750 Metro and 7600/Sup720-BXL as P and PE
    2 - Who many customers (L2VPN/VLANs and/or L3VPN/VRF) can they support?
Searching in CCO I found these values/features but, need URGENT to check:
    1 - sup720-bxl supports P and PE but 3750 only PE?
2 - 3750 supports 1024 VLANs and 8,192 MPLS labels but no values on L3VPN/VRF?
SUP720 supports more than 1000 VRF?
Really need urgent HELP on this design/capabilities for these two devices.
    Thanks in advance,

before you even get anywhere close to the numbers of L2/L3 on a 7200 I would seriously consider asking what throughput you can get through a 7200 with MPLS, QOS, L3vpns and L2vpns configured. I have done this testing already but dont think it is appropriate to quote the figures publically.

  • Cisco 7600 MPLS and set Qos group

Hi, i'm am trying to use to following class-maps and policy maps on a Cisco 7600. The same maps have been used on both 3700 series and 7200 series. However when i try to apply IP_TO_MPLS_OUT and MPLS_TO_IP_IN on the 7600 (with SUP32 and 48 port gigabit blade) i get a message on the console
    "set qos group" not supported.
I used the QoS group to carry the MPLS EXP value (as label would is popped) and this works well.
How can i get the QoS group to work on the 7600, if not is there a valid workaround?

    Hi,
I'm not aware that you can use qos groups on c7600 (LAN ports ?).
For the MPLS_TO_IP direction you can use 'mpls propagate-cos' on the egress interface as workaround. This rewrites the egress IP ToS with the internal DSCP (which is inferred from the topmost MPLS label).
For the IP_TO_MPLS direction you could just match on the original DSCP ?
    cheers,
    Stefan

  • 6500 or 7600 for MPLS ?

    Hi,
as I look to the characteristics of these 2 products they are quite similar if using supervisor engine 720. They both share several modules, interfaces...
The main requirement for us is to have full MPLS functionalities. Do you (experts) have a preference according to your appreciated experience ?
    Regards.
    Yannick.

    hi
i think contrast to pfc3b and pfc3bxl is volume of memory,pfc3bxl has 1G memory. if you need more vpn you need more memories.
i have once installed pfc3a for customer mpls vpn. i config 7609 with pfc3a for PE function, and config 3 7609 with pfc3a and 10720 to compose a dpt ring,. i found L3 mpls vpn work well. but found a problem , after we config more than 300 interface vlan and 100 physical interface, the cpu on 7609 reach 80% after we telnet into 7609 router.
really we can config mpls vpn PE on pfc3a , but someone told me there were some bugs which cisco can't resolve on pfc3a( i don't know). on cisco cco, pfc3a didn't support mpls vpn pe offically.
i think you may ask cisco se for help.
