MPower with various issues (Bios, Volt, Heat)

Hello Good Morning & Good Evening readers from everywhere on the planet.
I am having multiple issues with the newly assembled machine and i have 8 days left to "make it clean".
This computer is not for me, it s a gift, a nice one. so i would like to do everything i can to avoid any future issues.
So Far, what did i encounter as problems :
Problem 1 : BIOS
When i started the "lets go" process, step1 was to put an up to date Bios. i made a backup on my USB Key where i previously put the H70 bios, and accidentally selected the backed-up H30 bios as file to upload (instead of the H70)
Result : Boot Loop.
Tried everything i could :
From within Bios B, tried to flash H70 to Bios A after manual switching : Boot Loop
From USB Key and Forum Flasher procedure : Boot Loop
Finally, with Forum Flasher and H83 Bios : Boot on Bios Chip A possible.
meanwhile, i did flash Bios B with H70, which seems to behave weirdly, because it wont boot on the SSD system, and will always go back to Bios Screen. i gave up for now on Bios Chip B and i am focusing on the one that works, Bios Chip A with version 1.17.8B3
Problem 2 : HEAT, and a LOT of it.
using default settings (i only specified XMP profile for the Memory to run at 1600Mhz), i installed Windows 7 Pro, all necessary drivers (latest from intel, latest from nvidia, latest from MSI for the ones i could not find elsewhere)
installed a few benchmarks, Open Hardware Monitor, and launched a couple of Orthos (Prime) bench, assigning one Orthos per core through task manager.
Result : Cores run at 85°c and keep raising around 86, 87..... before i stopped everything.
Vcore reported by Open Hardware Monitor : 1.26 to 1.29v which, at 3.9Ghz, seemed to me, far too much.
Step 1 : removed the CoolerMaster, realized there was maybe slightly not enough thermal paste, added some where the contact did not seem to be good.
Step 2 : working my way on lowering the vcore.
i tried through bios various settings. i managed to get some relative stability with a bit less than 1v reported, and in that configuration, 49°c per core on Orthos. Orthos froze 15 minutes later when i tried to move windows around while maximizing OHMonitor's window. conclusion : not enough volts. but also : this CPU can run cooler.
after hours, i managed to get something "not so bad" with 1.1v setting in the Bios :
3.9Ghz test for 10hours with 1 Orthos per core + 3DMark 2011 windowed mode at max settings + Open Hardware Monitor. Nothing crashed, but i have 9 WHEA log entries in the system logs over the 10 hours of test.
max temperature reported for cores : 65°c
max temperature reported for GPU : 61°c
still, with WHEA's,  weird lags and "will not always boot" startup (5 to 10 seconds delay where the boot stucks on "B4" code before i get the Intel Raid Screen, and when i want to enter the Bios, sometimes (but not all the time) 10 to 20 seconds delay), a "blind volt configuration" because i have no clue of what volt the CPU really needs, and no overclocking (4.2 is not a big deal normally), and all phase leds on permanently (while they are not when i am in the Bios), i am NOT satisfied of what i did.
i am pretty sure that with your help i ll manage to try a few other settings, and i m also pretty sure that there are currently some Bios settings that are irrelevant or incorrect
i just installed RealTemp with Prime95 for second temp reading. Orthos makes things more hot, but both benchs are good in my eyes.
i ll now post the current Bios settings screenshots, thanks for your help. computer details included in signature
Note : ClickBios II asks me to install Intel ME 8 to enable overclock. Intel ME _9_ is currently installed. is that an issue ?
edit :
screen of 4x Orthos small FFT 1/core + 3DMark2011 extreme settings in 800x600 windowed
changed a few things
remark : when i did a restart, bios boot got stuck on B4 (one minute passed) i did reset the computer to access the bios. might come from me being too fast type "DEL" key to enter the bios while the MB was initializing
1) in the Bios, memory voltage was reported at 1.480. i manually entered a couple voltages, and ended up on 1.5280 manual entry reporting 1.530 V
2) Phase contantly on : current Bios setting Phase Control Auto, C1E Enabled CState Enabled  EIST Enabled. To what i read, this is not a big deal, but all phase are on when OS is running, and blinking in Bios. weird.
3) CPU Volt Manual entry changed from 1.100 to 1.125
relaunching Orthos x4 (small FFT) + 4cores Prime95 Blend Test + 3Dmark2011 windowed to check for WHEA's
i ll let this run for an hour.

thanks for the information, i ll try those changes and see if i gain anything.
main problem is the heat. 90°c at 3.9 is just hard to accept. especially with a temp room of 25-30° with heatwave coming strong in july or august.
maybe i chose the wrong heatsink with the Evo212, but i made a couple 3570k go at 4.5 4.6 with that HS, and it worked fine with a tmax of 72-75° under heavy load.
yesterday when i reached 87° i used my nocontact thermometer, and once the computer was off, my fingers. the copper tubes and the part which is in contact with the CPU was almost... cold, roomtemp.
i think i have one of those 3770k with the bad thermal contact between the die and the cap. that is an issue. i have 10 days to either find a solution to RMA it, or to make it run "cool" enough to be set free to his new owner. i hate when people get problems with a computer i built. it usually never happens. happened once in fact, dead P4P800, 2003. once.
i ll try those changes, i have 3 days to make it clear and clean. if i cannot get anything normal out of this, i ll do what i need to do to RMA it : put the default intel heatsink, make the CPU throttle, and RMA it, crossing fingers to get a correctly assembled 3770k in return. (and hoping not to burn the motherboard in the process. looks rock solid, but maybe not lava solid)
edit : at full charge, auto vcore send 1.3v to the cpu @3.9Ghz. Orthos + Prime makes cores temp at 85° after a minute. core 3 just reached 89° after 2 minutes of load. Room temp = 25°.
= no go. i cannot accept that as a normal behaviour.
The reported "CPU" temperature is 31°c
The Core Temperature is 89°c
that does not compute to me.
edit 2 :
trying 4.2Ghz Turbo with auto vcore : 1.31-1.32v. temp exceeds 90°c after a couple seconds of orthos.
trying 4.2Ghz with 1.2v manual entry : BSOD after launching Orthos
trying 4.2Ghz with 1.250 and 75% vdroop. no load volt : 1.208 - Prime + Orthos volt : 1.168. temp 68-70°c. no BSOD. launching 3DMark 2011 in windowed loop. crossing fingers will check for WHEA entries in a hour.
edit 3 : WHEA, tons of them. retrying with 1.240v. will repeat until no WHEA. if i need 1.3v for that, i dont really know what i will do. buying a 50E cooler "just to see" is not welcomed this month. no money to throw away right now.
also, i get stuck at "B4" a lot since i m trying 4.2Ghz, after restarting, after exiting the Bios. manual reset is necessary.
this CPU smells like a very bad batch.

  • X131E 3372-3FU Ghost Issues with 2.09 bios or higher

I contacted Lenovo tech support with an issue that our client had since bios revision 2.09 through the latest 2.52.  They are unable to use Symantec ghost to image their laptops using the latest solution suite 2.5.  I was onsite today to investigate the issue and found with putting everything in legacy mode I still was unable to boot to anything dos based it would just hang.  The laptops that have the previous bios version 1.05 work fine, but unfortunately there was no way to downgrade lower then 2.09 once 2.09 was on the systems.  Just seeing if there is a way to force a downgrade to 1.05 or if Lenovo is coming out with a fix so that this functionality is restored since the earlier 1.05 bios did not exhibit this issue.

They have a newer version coming out in a few months from symantec but had said to contact lenovo considering depending on bios version it would work fine. The initial bios release works great but every release since that version must have a flaw in the firmware or something for legacy was removed from it. I'm trying to get a solution for our client since they don't want to change from symantec and will work with our rep tomorrow.

  • K8N SLI Platinum: Shutdown issue with 3.5 BIOS

Flashed 3.5 BIOS to solve Cool 'n' Quiet reset problem with 3.4.
3.5 did solve the problem but introduced another problem. Now, Shutdown takes more than 3-4 minutes.

With 3.5 BIOS mine takes about 5 mins to post   Shuts down ok though and works with a raid setup so im happy.

  • Question for those with memory issues on k8n neo plat

I have been having issues with my memory on the k8n neo platinum board since i built the system last month and i just recently discovered a fact I had overlooked.
I Have discovered that  if i test the system while it is cool (having sat turned off overnight for example), then memtest will pass the ram just fine and the system will be stable for a short period of time, generally longer if no intensive applications are used, ie. doom3 vs. websurfing).
This system, once it heats up ( seems mostly to be the nvidia 3 nb that needs to be "hot"- that is, a probe placed in contact with the module reaches about 58+ degrees c) then the system becomes unstable and memtest, if used, fails.
Prime95, if used on it when its cool, will usually take about an hour or so to fail, but if its used on the system when its been running a bit ( temps from nb at 58c+ and memory module hot to the touch) then it fails after about 20-30 seconds.
I have placed an active hs on the nb in an attempt to correct this, but temps still remain high with failures occuring.
I have spent the better part of three days testing the sytem this way and the above facts have held true in all these tests.
I have  tested at stock ratings ( not using "auto" in bios, but using "approved ratings" of 10 x 200 for fsb and timings of 2-3-3-7 for my ram at 1:1 (which is recommended as well) since i am testing for base stability at this point;Voltages have been left at auto settings, however.
I was wondering if anyone else with memory issues could try this out and post if this seems to be the case for you as well.
Perhaps the memory issues on these boards are directly related to a problem with the nvidia 3 chipset running too hot?
Does anyone have a memory issue with these boards who is using water cooling on the NB ?
Lack of issues from people using 'problem" memory, but having no failures with water cooled nb's would support my assumption.

    Yes i did mean chipset.
I am using a stock hs/fan from amd, which seems to run a tad hot but, considering that I wont overclock until I can get board stable, its not an issue. (runs 35-40 idle and up to 72 intensive). I need the warranty more then the extra mhz at present.
I removed the stock heatsink from the nvidia chipset and bought a generic chipset cooler (green, very little in the way of fins and seems to be aluminum) with a small fan.
I used a generic silver paste from Compusa to adhere both the cpu hs and the chipset.
I didnt lap either hs, just installed each as per instructions on artic silvers website (figured it had to go on the same way even generic).
I also bought a kingwin thermal center which i ran probes from to the cpu, case, and nb chipset.
I am not using it to adjust fans so those arent connected - its just a reference temp I can see at a glance, esp considering the funky bios reading this boards been known to give.
I assume from these responces that even a nvidia 3 250 chipset shouldnt get as hot as mine?
I asked about that from the retailer i bought this from but he seemed to think it was "ok" at 50ish celcius, but then again he didnt look too confident when he said it, lol.
Idle right now reads on Corecenter at 28 celcius for cpu and 33 celcius for the chipset, although, I have readings of 37 c and 43 c from the kingwin thermal center, which i believe to be more accurate.
My voltage reads at 11.67 for the 12v line at idle right now.
The psu i got is stick from the xblade case i bought in store. (http://www.xoxide.com/xblade2.html)
I have a dvd burner, cd drive, and two maxtor ide hd's attached to the system; The only card is the agp.
Is there a way to check and see if the cpu ispower starved? software monitor or even an external probe perhaps?
I havent put a probe on it, but the ram came in its own heatspreader, which gets very hot to the touch as well.
What temps should I be looking for on these items?

  • I upgraded my 3rd generation ipad to ios 6.0.1 and now am experiencing various issues.  Neither Pages or Numbers will open.  I just see a gray screen that says Pages or Numbers at the top and all of my documents are gone.

I upgraded my "new ipad" (the 3rd generation I think) to ios 6.0.1 and now am experiencing various issues.
1- Neither Pages or Numbers will open.  I just see a gray screen that says Pages or Numbers at the top and all of my documents are gone. The icon that allows me to create a new document also does not appear.  I went to icloud.com to see whether my documents still existed, which brings me to the 2nd problem.
2- It appears that all of my Pages documents are still on icloud, but all of my Numbers documents are gone.  There were only about 10, but I access 2 of them nearly every day, so this is a big issue for me.
I went into Settings and all of the icloud information is correct and it "Documents & Data" is on.  When I look at the storage, I see the Pages documents but not the Numbers ones.  The next thing I did was turn my ipad off and back on, but this didn't fix anything.  Since my Pages documents are still on icloud, I then tried to delete the Pages app from the ipad so that I could reinstall it, which resulted in the 3rd problem.
3- I cannot delete any apps.  I can get all of the icons to shake and the small x IS available, but everything freezes when I click it.  I can't do anything at that point except reset the ipad or wait until it eventually restarts itself.  I've tried this with Pages as well as multiple other apps, all with the same result.  I've also tried downloading a new app (which worked fine) and then deleting that one, but I got the same result.
3a- A small related issue to this that I am far less concerned about is that when the ipad restarts itself, it comes back on and the screen is really dark and I can barely make out what appears on the screen.  If I enter my password right away, it stays that way until I go into Settings - Brightness & Wallpaper and touch the brightness setting (although I'm not actually changing the setting because it already shows that the brightness is turned up a little over halfway).  If I don't enter my password right away and let it go completely dark, then click the home button, the brightness is fine.
So now I'm stuck.  My guess is that I will need to restore it, but wanted to check before I take that step.  Unfortunately, my laptop is on its deathbed so I haven't been synching my ipad to it and I fear my Numbers documents are gone forever.  I'd like to try everything I can to fix these issues before doing the restore in hopes that I can get the Numbers documents back.
Any suggestions for any or all of these problems?

I do backup with iCloud.  I can't wait until the new iMac is available so that I can once again have my files in more than 1 location without needing to rely solely on the cloud.
I also rely on iTunes and my MacBook and Time Machine as well as backing up to iCloud. I know many users know have gone totally PC free, but I chose to use iCloud merely as my third backup.
I assume that the restore would result in my ability to open Pages and Numbers and fix the problem with deleting apps, but this would also mean that if my Numbers documents still exist solely within the app and are just not on iCloud for some reason that they would be gone forever.  Is that right?
In a word, yes. In a little more detail.... When you restore from an iCloud backup, you must erase the device and start all over again. There is no other way to access the backup in iCloud without erasing the device. Consequently, you are starting all over again. Therefore, it would also be my assumption that Pages and Numbers will work again and that the deleting apps issues would be fixed as well.
If the documents are not in the backup, and you do not have a backup elsewhere, the documents could be gone forever.

  • I have a 990XA-GD55 With One Click Bios II-Am I alone?uefi?

I created a post not to long ago asking for help with a situation. I bought a new Board 1 week ago. Board was Brand new, never opened...
"""This Board Is Not suppose to Have A Uefi Bios.....This Board is Not suppose to have One Click Bios II........"""""""""
The only reason I bought the board---The company I went to purchase, Had a deal on another board with a Pile-driver Processor. I am the type that will read and read, till I know everything about an item before I purchase..Found out that most of the time, you can purchase a combo and find out that the bios has not been updated for the cpu. Only way to fix, buy an older or cheaper cpu and update. I talked to the salesman and come to find out ,the combos they were offering had the same issue..This board had the uefi Bios...I did not want to go threw the head ache, so I opted for a different board..I was told it had no uefi Bios...and I was fine with that, It was a better Board. But than I found out that it too, was not ready for the pile driver...But it was ready for the bulldozer. I have owned the same cpu before. So I purchase The bulldozer and this board-990xa-GD55....
Brought it home-read up on it.....Read it did not have uefi bios...and that was fine...Built the unit top to btm.....Booted it up or hit the power button.....For some reason it took about 30-60 sec to come on. But once it did...I hit delete too get to bios..Guess what I seen--One Click Bios 2..That was weird but ok...download windows 7 all my drivers, all my updates...But I could not find the download for one click bios on the site or on the cd....and everywhere I read claimed that this board was not to have this bios. I even wrote a post here asking about the download...What I was told---This board does not have uefi Bios....So I responded with a pic of my bios and I have not heard back..
I would like to hear from users just like me on this subject..Do you have the same Bios I have? It says One Click Bios II...I am not complaining...This board runs awesome and does everything I need it to do. I am very pleased. I wish I could get the download to have one click on my desktop..Like my other-boards...I am not a newbie to building, and I have had this bios on a few different computers. I would just like to hear, if you might have the same bios...and any issues you had when updating...I am scared to update the bios..I probably will not do it..I would hate to lose this feature.
Thanks for reading and sorry about my Grammar and spelling....
Update--I have been beating my head over this...I know MSI says we are not suppose to have this bios....But if you look up this in Google..
Can't change CPU voltage on MSI 990xa-GD55 Mobo
Look at the screenshot....That guy is using one Click Bios 2----tooo........
I have a feeling that alot of people that buy these boards are new to this bios feature, and just don't know better...This is suppose to have the older version of Bios....Not one Click 2...Guy in this post as the same bios as me.....Maybe if enough of use tell these guys we have it--They will include a download for it on Windows...On my other boards...I have one click bios on the board and can access it in Windows with a simple download....Thanks MSI for this feature...But please hook us up with the download too.......I would use the download from another board-But I know better...so I can wait till MSI offers....

If you are reading this and you are like me. You came here for answers. From what the guys here are telling me and from what I have read. These boards are not advertised as having the bios. When I purchased this board I was told that this did not have it. Than in my other post I was told this did not have it. But after a long winded Post. The Msi Tech said these boards come with it and that this model does not support the One Click Bios 2, in windows, Like there other boards. To me that really makes no scene, But I don't make the boards. I am sure these guys can write a program to take advantage of this awesome feature. I did some more hunting and amd has nothing to do with it, so i am assuming it is just this chip-set. To me this really make no scene. But having this bios was Bonus. If you read online or any review-either the person writing the review really never used the board, or maybe he never tried the bios. But I found numerous reviews claiming this board was missing this uefi and it only came with traditional Bios. 'Makes You wonder".........But I am over it....If your wondering these board do come with the uefi Bios but not advertised..advertised as having the older traditional Bios. Hope they will come out with an update for the one click Bios feature in Windows soon.....works out nice when you need to dbl check setting with out resetting your computer..
As for Ram--I asked about using 2133....One the many Msi Boards I have used in the past. There boards have a feature That allows you to just tick what frequency you want to use and than it will set the timing for you. I understand that Your memory controller is in the chip...But this program is in the bios. On This board the Highest is 1866...But when pressing 1866, it will not run it stable. sometimes it wont even post. The ram I am using is g.skill 2133 and i have used it in tons of there other boards with no issues. I have even used it in another bulldozer set up at 2133, Different board....Ran well. This board Can use 2133 easy, but in order to do it you have to go in and set the timing and voltage...Not a big deal for those people that do it all the time. But I like the one click and go. Even though one of the ticks is 1866, this board will need adjustment...so anything over 1600 will need to be done manually. My original question was this board says it can take 2133oc...I am one of the few that know nothing about setting timing and voltage, But with this board I am learning...if any of you have this board and this ram.....f3-17000cl11-4gbxl........Let me know what you set yours on to run at 2133....I have already tried----
11-11-11-31-41"1t and 2t" voltage 1.6.......and it does not run stable.....Maybe I just lucked on on my other board, but I do not own it no more to compare...I would like to hear how you got yours to run stable.......I don't need it.....I just want to do it...
Thanks for reading and sorry about my spelling and grammar.....

  • Lumia 900 Various Issues

I recently purchased a white Lumia 900 this past weekend, and just wanted to go over some concerns/issues I've had with it thus far.  I was thinking about doing a return/replace with At&t, but it seems that the issues may vary.  I'm hoping many of these can be resolved with a software update.  Just FYI, I already ran the update that was released on 4/16 and have also reset the phone a few times since then.
    Display:
    1.  The display has a purple hue (most noticeable on gray backgrounds) when set to low brightness.  This is mostly an annoynace since my wife has the same phone and hers does not exhibit this behavior.  I'm hoping this is not a hardware issue as it displays fine above the low brightness setting.  Below is at least one thread of people having the same issue.
    http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1599308
    2.  Screen response is slow.  It seems that that there is a delay between where my finger is and how the screen tracks my movements.  I'm hoping that can be adjusted to be similar to how the Lumia 800 responds as per this video.  The tracking starts at 3:45.
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_KBDZrqVW-8
    3.  Home screen scrolling is slower than other Windows Phones.  On my previous Dell Venue Pro, I could scroll through the home screen much faster.  From reading about the web, it seems that the Lumia 900 is set at a much slower pace, or that the inertia scrolling just isn't set.  I'm hoping that can either be changed or allow us to change the scroll speed.  The combination of the larger screen, the slower screen response, and the slower scrolling just makes the phone feel slower than it should be.
    http://forums.wpcentral.com/lumia-900-ace/190309.htm
    Sound/Notifications:
    1.  There is a large volume discrepancy between the speaker and the headphone jack.  I try to keep the volume at one setting (around 18) because that is most comfortable for me when listening with headphones, but switching back to the speaker, and it is just clearly too loud at that setting.  I'm hoping this can be changed with an update.
    http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1615986
    2.  Changing the volume while the screen is off is very inconsistent.  I have to press the volume rocker buttons several times before it makes the incremental change.  It seems others were having issues with the volume rocker not working at all prior to the 4/16 update, so I'm hoping this can be fixed further.
    http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1607937
    3.  Vibrate function seems to be making a rattling noise.  This one definitely seems to be a hardware issue, though what I have seems to be 'normal' for a Lumia 900.  It's not as bad as others I've seen on the web, where it would be extremely loud, but it is annoying nonetheless.  I'm just hoping a hardware fix can be put in place for the future.  It sounds similar to that of the Lumia 900 at the end of this video.
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_KBDZrqVW-8
    Camera:
    1.  The camera has issues with white balance and focus.  This is definitely a software issue, since 3rd party camera software are able to take great pictures just fine, such as SophieCam.  I'm hoping this can be addressed soon.
    http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1605444
Despite these issues, I really do like the phone.  I hope many of these issues can be addressed soon via software updates.  We broke contract with our previous carrier to obtain these phones, and would really like to keep them, but not at their current state with these various issues.  I'm hoping Nokia will see these issues and provide quick and helpful support for them.

OK, so I've calmed down a bit and now realize some detailed explanation of the issue could help to identify it more than ranting.  So, here are the usage conditions and symptoms I noticed when I got into this battry drain, laggy, warm phone situation.
    1st time:
Where:  At work which is outside of Phoenix in a spotty reception area.  I had maybe 1-2bars of 4G showing
What: Drove to work using bluetooth audio all the way. When I got to work I was trying to download an App, but the download failed.  I tried again, and the download started, then just froze at 15%.  I cancelled the download and tried again.  It started to download and froze again at 15%.  I attributed this to the weak coverage (but since then I've been able to complete a download from the same location with the same service)
Then the battery seemed to drain as fast as I could charge it...literally.  I had the phone plugged into a USB charger and the state of charge barely changed after hours of charging.  I never thought to re-start.  I got home and my battery was basically dead after bluetooth audio all the way home (almost 1 hr).  I finally restarted and had no more issues.  Didn't really think anything of it...just thought my new phone had a **bleep** battery life
    2nd time (following day):
Where: At home with strong LTE coverage in Tempe
What:  Woke up, paired up with my portable bluetooth stereo at home.  Let the music play while I hung out in the pool for a few hours.  I was simultaneously taking pictures throughout the afternoon.  Battery charge quickly fell to about 25%.  I started to notice that when I would zoom into the pictures I had just taken, it would take about 15sec for the resolution to re-sharpen after zooming in.  About 20min later my battery critically low warning came on.  So, I plugged into my wall charger.  Can't remember at what point I re-started.
That was Saturday.  I had no issues and great battery life on Sunday.  No bluetooth audio usage.  Used Nokia Drive, the phone, internet, and various apps, but no BTA.
    3rd time:
Where:  Driving from Tempe to work, passing in and out of coverage along the way
What: Streamed Bluetooth audio the entire drive with a few phone calls mixed in.  Got to work and the phone was warm, but I assumed this was normal after an hour of usage.  Got into work and noticed it being laggy in general.  Turned off data and BT  Gave it a few minutes to recover and for the phone to cool off with no usage.  Phone didn't cool off and remained laggy, so I figured something was up.  I re-started, all issues disappeared, and phone cooled off.  It has been fine since.

  • Need assistance with multiple issues with several G5's

    Hello All,
I need to get some assistance with some issues that I am having with several G5 Dual’s
I just started a new position and I have 4-G5 Dual’s that are in various states of disrepair. Normally I would call Apple support but they did not purchase the extended AppleCare packages for any of the G5’s theu purchased and they are ALL over a year old now. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
G5 number 1 - Has its fans running at full output all the time. Could this be a firmware issue?
G5 number 2 – Had it’s logic board replaced by one of our company computer techs and now at start up gives a long tone then boots to white screen with a command prompt. Requiring me to either type “mac-boot” or “shutdown”. If I continue the boot process the machine just goes to a gray screen and stalls. I researched this yesterday and tried several solutions I found here but to no avail. Seems to me that past of the issue is that it is stuck looking for a firmware upgrade. How do I get past it?
G5 number 3 – Mac seems to boot correctly but when you click on the Apple icon in the upper left hand corner the Finder blinks out and then comes back. It does this every time we try to go to the Apple menu. We removed the original hard drive and installed in a known good drive, our tech drive with a G5 image, rebooted the mac and the same issue occurs with the Finder.
G5 number 4 – This unit boots to black screen with a Unix command prompt displaying “root#”. Any thoughts.
    Thanks
    Paul

Apparantly someone not certified to repair them messed them up.
Tell bossman it would be in his best interest for you to take them to a authorized Apple Repair and get it done with.
Tell him that Mac's rarley screw up hardware wise and there really hasn't been a great demand for skilled repair techs outside of Apple.
If your worried about your job, tell him you can take care of the software, training, minor hardware and networking end of the matter. Which, luckily for you, are longtern and ongoing needs. You can tell him that.
There's nothing wrong in admitting you don't know how to do something and keeping your job, than to be unable to fix them and lose your job.

    Hello lucky3480;
I don't know what else to do. I'm thinking of possibly returning the unit and purchasing a wireless internet card to install in the tower. Any help you can provide would be great. Even suggesting a good wireless card at this point
Well it looks like you're not having any luck at all with this AX set up but please don't give on it just yet, it's a good choice for extending your Network. Your on the right path, just going backwards and in the wrong direction. You'll learn a lot about stuff this way but may lead to other issues.
Before I continue, let me know if you have returned the AX or still need help. Here's a link to Apple's PDF about [Designing AirPort Networks|http://manuals.info.apple.com/enUS/Designing_AirPort_Networks10.5-Windows.pdf] Click on it to open in Safari but then save it to your desktop. Now open it from your desktop and start reading Chapter 3, page 42.
    Later...

You're not asking any question so I'll just ramble.
You may have permanently damaged your iPad.  The iPad controls the current coming from the charger but the charger electronics must be capable of responding to the iPad.  Charge with a known good charger and then test your iPad.  If it's OK, you lucked out.  Otherwise...  If the charger was not an Apple charger, you're completely out of luck.  If it was an Apple charger, call Apple and discuss the issue with them.

  • I flashed the BIOS on my dv4 2045dx with the F17 BIOS, NOW Black screen, PLEASE HELP

I flashed the BIOS on my dv4 2045dx with the F17 BIOS, NOW Black screen. Now even when pressing the windows  and the B key when powering, the screen stay black. Lights, fan, HD, USB drive with HP_TOOLS partition and bios backup flashes goes on for some time with some beeping every 15 sec.
I try to plug it on to a external monitor without luck.
What's next? Can I reload a BIOS from a CD? Anyone have an idea?
    Thanks

    Hello KenyaKitten
I understand after flashing your bios the PC will not boot.  I will do all I can to help with this issue.
First thing let’s do a hard reset, remove all devices from the PC including battery and power cable. Once all is removed press and hold power button for 15-20 seconds. Once that is done insert only battery and charging cable.  Try to boot now, if getting same response move to next line below.
Next, I want you to try is to boot into the bios menu. Turn the PC off and as you turn it on tap the F10 key repeatedly. Hopefully this boots you into the bios menu. Screen will look a little bluish grey and have setup utility across the top.
Also if the PC starts beeping at you while you’re tapping you can stop. Now if you reach that screen you may get a box that say save changes and exit choose no. (Note your mouse doesn't work on this screen so you would need to use the arrow keys)
After that press F9 another box will up come about reset defaults, accept that. Then press F10 to save and exit. The notebook will attempt to boot.
Also please inform me if you notice the number lock or caps lock keys blinking off and on. Also please let me know if the PC beeps at you while tapping F10 regardless if the bios comes up or not.
Please respond at your earliest convenience when you get further information.
    Thank you.

  • Lr Mobile. Working with various Catalogs. Picture on portal are erased when Catalogs Backed to external HD and removed from MacBook.

So I work with various Catalogs on my MacBook. I believe most everyone has the same workflow. Creating Catalogs are a great way to improve the performance of Lr and a great tool for archiving.
The problem is the following: When backing up these Catalogs to an external HD and removing the Catalog from the MacBook. All of the pictures synched to Lr Mobile from these Catalogs are erased.
This is uncool. I think Lr Mobile at the very least should display a low quality JPG as Lr Desktop application does.
Here is a toke, I noticed on my iPhone that even though the pictures are gone, my used memory remains high. I tried clearing cache but it didn't move the needle.
So it seems as Lr Mobile knows there were some pictures synched, and recognizes that these pictures are no longer present, but fails to erase them from memory.
    1) Need Low quality JPGs on Lr Mobile to show pictures of your synched catalogs that are not longer the catalogs been worked on.
    2) Lr Mobile (iPhone?) memory issues.
    Thanks,
    Daniel

  • X-FI Titanium Pro Various Issues

    ?Hello Everyone,
I have been having various issues with my new X-FI Titanium pro PCI-E card.
    1. With new drivers, I get crackling & popping when ever there is high CPU/HD usage.
    2. With the original drivers this goes away, however now I get very loud static after about hour of usage. This is sometimes resolved by switching console modes, but most of the time I have to re-boot.
    My System:
    Asus M4A79T
    AMD Phenom X4 955
    Saphire HD4890
    8 gigs OCZ pc2800 ram
    700 watt OCZ power supply
    TB 7200RPM WD HD.
    LG DVD RAM dri've.
    Creative X-FI Titanium Pro.
I have been through every forum, and all over the internet looking for an answer. Can anyone provide me with some assistance before I scrap my new toy?
    thanks in advance.

$ I would highly recommend an X-Fi Titanium, but only the Titanium. The PCI-x rendition of Creative's sound card lineup is easily the best piece of hardware they have ever released. As is fairly common in the PC industry any new piece of hardware can potentially cause a user problems but I'd have to say the Titanium is your best bet.
The problems you're having could possibly just be compatibility issues with your motherboard or a mix of other hardware in your PC. All you can do is try. Personally I am having no problems whatsoever using Creative's latest driver set with Windows 7 x64 and I play quite a few games. If, by chance, you play the game Sacred 2 you could very well have audio issues though but that's due to the game being extremely buggy. Sacred 2 aside everything I throw at my system and X-Fi Titanium Fatality Pro works flawlessly. This is all just my own personal experience though. You can try and hope for the best and if it doesn't work out return the card (purchasing at a local retailer if available for a few bucks more might be worthwhile if you do need to return the product though to avoid shipping costs).

  • Z77A-G43 Issue - Bios not working

    Dear Forum,
I have a quite strange issue with my brand new system.
    Specs first:
    MSi Z77A-G43 BIOS 2.2/2.3, i5 3570K, Win7 Professional 64 bit
    G.Skill Value Series 8GB DDR3-1333 Kit
be quiet! Straight Power E9 580 Watt CM
    Gigabyte GeForce GTX560 Ti
    OCZ Vertex 120GB SSD
    Western Digital Caviar Blue 500GB
    LG GH24NS70
    Problem description:
All parts are brand new. Machine was assembled (antistatic wristband used), Display connected to PCIE-Nvidia gfx card.
Display showed post codes (99, A2) in low resolution and got stuck with a blinking cursor in the top left corner.
After some cable checking I switched to the built-in gfx (from CPU) and the machine booted into bios (v.2.2) after showing the MSI logo.
Whenever I tried to change or even view the bios settings, the machine froze and had to be hard reset.
I installed Win7 without a flaw and updated the bios to 2.3 using Live Update. No errors.
Now whenever I trie to access the bios (hitting DEL) the bios image (blueish) pops up for a short moment and the machine reboots. Nothing else I can do there. It still booted though into windows.
I did the CMOS-reset which showed the initial "settings have been reset, hit F1 for setup or F2 to continue" message but when hitting F1 it again flashed the bios image for a microsecond and rebooted.
Windows still booted normally, when starting Click Bios II application it showed the loading screen but nothing happened. So I decided to reflash 2.3 Bios.
    --> Nothing changed
I then flashed the Bios down to 2.2 using the MSIHQ-Flash utility (awesome tool) which lead to the same effect as before:
I could access the bios but could not change any settings, the machine froze. The click-Bios application started though.
    Now I have two questions:
    1) What's the matter with the board/bios? I can still return the mainboard to the vendor but would rather like to see this issue fixed
    2) Any ideas with the non-running PCIE-graphics card? Could this be related to the mainboard/bios as well? PSU has 580W and all cables were connected properly.
Thanks for any input that might help..

Wouldn't even bother trying anymore with v2.2 since it needs v2.3 to fully support the CPU you have. Recommend to stay with v2.3 since it updates the Management Engine. Going to v2.2 may be causing a chip corruption of some kind.
Not sure what kind or brand of keyboard is involved here, but try with a generic USB one. I had to enable F-Lock on my keyboard to make it go to the UEFI/BIOS using the Delete key. Test with one RAM stick only in the primary dimm slot. Depending on the manual revision, that is either DIMM1 or DIMM2. Update to v2.3, remove the PSU power cord, remove the battery for awhile, clear CMOS and reset, and test again.
I did use another keyboard, I did a CMOS reset, I  have only one module in DIMM2 as stated in the manual. I guess I went through all usual troubleshouting steps. some things in my system don't like each others.
what I did not do so far is comparing the serial of the old and new mainboard. will do that tonight - I srsly hope they didn't send the faulty one again..

  • I have an older iMAC that once burned CD's with no issues. Now I get an error message saying "The attempt to burn a disc failed. The device is not accessible, probably because it was removed". I have never had it touched so the device was not removed.Help

I have an olde iMac that once I have an older iMAC that once burned CD's with no issues. Now I get an error message saying "The attempt to burn a disc failed. The device is not accessible, probably because it was removed". I have never had it touched so the device was not removed. Please advise as to what could be the problem. How to fix. Thanks

Try resetting the SMC and PRAM first, if that doesn't help try a cleaning disc.....and then buy an inexpensive external burner. Slimline super drive failures are all too common.
    To reset the SMC
    Shut down the computer.
    Unplug the computer's power cord.
    Wait fifteen seconds.
    Attach the computer's power cord.
Wait five seconds, then press the power button to turn on the computer.
    Resetting NVRAM / PRAM
    Shut down your Mac.
Locate the following keys on the keyboard: Command (⌘), Option, P, and R. You will need to hold these keys down simultaneously in step 4.
    Turn on the computer.
Press and hold the Command-Option-P-R keys before the gray screen appears.
Hold the keys down until the computer restarts and you hear the startup sound for the second time.
    Release the keys.
