Mpower Z77 Defective or CPU - Strange unexplained occurrences.

I am having an issue with a new Z77 Mpower Board I recently purchased. I am using a Sandy bridge i5 2500K. Sometimes the bios will freeze or lock up me while i'm in it.  I flashed both bios A & B with different versions to test to see if the different bios may have a change of effect.
I have tested my ram thoroughly on the board with memtest86+ which it passed, I have tried seating 1 module in slot 2 as well as all other slots. I have tried using a different pair of memory sticks, used different power supply's, tried re-seating the CPU and looked for bent pins.
When I try to install windows, 1 or 2 things happen. First half the time windows may just freeze on the install screen and sometimes give me a  0x00000124 message . Second install makes it all the way through and wants to restart system for the second and final stage of install, problem is at this point, I then see the windows logo animation which is slow and choppy or it just hangs and freezes until I am given this message "windows installation encountered an unexpected error. verify that the installation sources are accessible" Interesting enough it does this on Windows 8 install as well. It will freeze sometimes during the beginning of install and the other times when it completes and tries to boot up to finalize I get the moving dots in the circular motion all slow and choppy and then it just freezes and gives me the same message that the windows 7 install displays. I have tried using different HDD's as well as different cables and plugging them into different SATA ports. Same result.
I can't even run a live linux distro since it too freezes on the loading screen.
I have flashed the bios again to a different version, same problems persist. I am trying to figure out if the board is faulty or maybe my cpu which I have had for a few years may be the culprit here?
Any thoughts or suggestions on what I can do here.

I am not saying you must increase or decrease the core voltage, but the error code 124 is usually an indicator that the CPU core voltage is insufficient.
That may be due to a deteriorated CPU or it may be the board providing less voltage than what is displayed and/or the BIOS versions have a bug in terms of that CPU (highly unlikely but not impossible).
As said, you won't know if its your CPU until you have tried a different CPU. It could also be the board's voltage regulation, but you will only find the culprit by means of elimination of the potential culprits.
In the meantime, have a look at what the applied core voltage is in the BIOS. You can take it out of auto and apply a fixed 1,35V and see if it makes any difference. That is for test purposes only to see if that allows you to do an installation.

  • MSI Mpower Z77 B2 Error

    Hello all!
Sorry for bad Language from start:)
    My PC:
    MSI Mpower Z77
    I5 2500k
    PSU Fractal Design R2
Memory Stick Hynix 1600 mhz 16 gb
    MSI 7970 Lightning
The problem is next, yesterday after i installed 7970 (with new waterblock, made leak test 24 hours before start with main psu, all leak test system was without power), the problem is bios and video won't post, motherboard shows b 2 (maybe it 62 but looks like B2) error, and even without video card it won't post and showing B2 error.
I already tried to clear cmos with button, battery (PSU cable unplug), switching bios, switch bios on VGA but still nothing works. I didn't touch CPU and it works all fine before install 7970.
Right now i am on work, but i will check another video.
please tell me what else can I check? Or B2 it problem only of Video? I already looked other threads, and contact with company of waterblock, they said its impossible to be problems, maybe its because of no connection on 3 pin stock cooler connector or smth?
    Thanks in advance....

if its a B2 error its the graphics card being a pain and is probably DOA (always test a card before fitting a water block (even on another computer) on its stock cooler as its easier then having to remove the waterblock just to have to put the cooler back on to do a RMA if its non functional)
first thing to try would be to remove and reseat the card to make sure its not just miss seated!
also what PSU do you have?
Hello again, thanks for fast answer!
I have this video card already half a year, and it works fine all time, before change stock cooler on waterblock i check it and it was ok!
I already reseat card about 5 times, every time PSU off and waited, my PSU if Fractal Design Newton R3 1000w. (mistake in discription).
Right now Company that send me waterblock said that on manual i need to place lightning chip (from top GPU Reactor) , but  i never used it and it was ok, can it affect on B2 or not?. Can it died by my hand? But leds work fine like always when it was on stock cooler.
And the point is, even if i took off card, its still B2, even after clear cmos and all actions i made in 1 post.
DOA - dead or alive? If motherboard won't work with another video (9500 GT ) or integrated can just motherboard suddenly be dead?
    Thank you in advance

  • MSI MPOWER Z77 Drops frequency

I have a INTEL 3770K along with MSI MPOWER Z77, I am running BIOS at Default settings with no major changes to Overclocking section. When I boot up the windows for first time the CPU frequency goes up to 3.9Ghz when in TURBO. But when I Put computer in STANDBY MODE for overnight and start the computer backup in the morning, the CPU Frequency only goes up to 3.5Ghz in TURBO ( It just wont go above 3.5GHZ). I am using latest BIOS        v17.7 and Default settings at BIOS.
To Fix the issue and I have to restart windows and then 3770K will go to Max 3.9Ghz turbo and idles at 1.6Ghz, which is suppose to happen all the time. is there something wrong with my BIOS or installation of Windows 8 ?
    Need Assistance

Flash to the latest bios and retest:

  • Strange Sounds/Occurrences

So the "Strange Sounds/Occurrences" are coming from two places:
first: the fans. It seems as thought they run quite a bit... do fans on MacBooks usually run so fast, so loud, so long? It seems like they're usually running at over 3000 RPM and often much higher... seems like a bit much to me.
My other question is regarding the disc drive. Whenever I turn on the computer or wake it from sleep, the disc drive (at least I'm pretty darn sure it's the disc drive) makes a bit of noise (same rhythm/sound every time). I just want to check to make sure this is normal. It's also a somewhat noisy drive when it comes to loading discs, burning, erasing, etc. Normal, yes? I hope so!
    Any info is appreciated! Thanks!

are you viewing video clips/movies or a video application?
if your video card is working harder then the more heat it will produce, then your fans kick in until the video card is cooled down to the proper temp.
if the fans dont kick in then your card will pretty much melt.

yes, the sound it makes when coming out of sleep is normal.
the sound when you load a cd/dvd into the laptop is also normal... well at least with the 2 mac laptops that i own.

  • MSI Mpower Z77 w/MSI NGTX 680 Lightning

Got started on my first ever PC and I'm stuck, so please bear with me. The parts that I have are the MSI Mpower Z77 and the MSI NGTX 680 Lightning (video card). There are two 8-pin connectors on the video card which needs to be plugged in. However, reading the user guide for Mpower Z77, it mentioned an ATX 6-pin power connector on its main board. It's designated as JPWR3 (p. 1-15) and it's suppose to provide power to the graphics card. My question is, do I need to plug in the JPWR3 on the main board if I'm already connecting two 8-pin power source into the video card?
I'm pretty confused about this because I've heard varying accounts. Speaking to people, they've said that the JPWR3 not only powers the graphics card but also all the PCIe expansion slots. Don't know how true this is since there's no mention in the user guide. On the other hand, I've had some people tell me not to bother with it if I'm only using one video card; they've stated while it doesn't hurt to have JPWR3 plugged in, it won't do anything unless I'm overclocking or running SLI/Crossfire, in which case I'll be drawing lots of power.
So what to do? I am tempted by SLI...but that's a bridge I won't cross until next year. So in the meantime, should I plug in JPWR3? Any pros and cons either way? It'd be great to have some feedback or consensus. Thanks.
Oh, and if plugging JPWR3, do I use the PCIe power cable from the PSU??? It's the only 6-pin I have left.

its better to connect all the power connectors anyway to avoid problems later on in time if he upgrades! also if the PSU you have isn't capable of supplying that big an ammount of power to the board the optional header will fill in the missing shortage and your less ikely to have noposts as the graphics cards power from the slot is choked so its more just safety!
most experianced builders will say even if its not needed connect it anyway to avid problems with your build....
let me put it like this its better to have it connected and its doing nothing then to try and boot a machine and it needing it but its not connected and as a result the machine doesn't post!
the PCI power connector on the board will be active only if needed and connecting it won't cause any problems but work as a boost if needed!

  • MSI Mpower Z77, boot code A0/A2 hanging

    Hello all,
    Parts:
    MSI Z77 MPower motherboard
    Intel i7-3570k
    Phanteks TC14 cooler
32GB Corsair Vengeance RAM (I believe it's 1600 speed, it's underneath the cooler so I haven't pulled it yet)
    Samsung 840 128GB
    MSI GTX650ti
    IBM M1015
    Nvidia Quadro NVS 420
    2xPlextor M5S 120GB
    Samsung 850W X-series PSU
    APC 750 ES UPS
    Lubuntu 14.04
(yes, I used all the display outputs and RAM  )
I've recently have been having issues with my workstation which has been rock stable up to this point.
I experienced some kind of power failure (I'm not sure if it was the UPS, the PSU or something with the board itself). The UPS has had some trouble with its battery but at the time, it didn't seem to be the culprit as there were no beeps at the time. I can't remember if the displays lost power too, but I believe they were hooked up to the non-battery side of the UPS.
I've had two unexplained power failures on this workstation in about a week or two. After the latest power failure, I went to reboot the machine and I got stuck at either A2 or A0 (on the display and LED) and a black screen. I left it for a day or two before I had time to diagnose.
Just today, I pulled the SSD, and I got stuck at A0. I pulled all the cards (I ran the display off the onboard HDMI) and USB off the back (mouse, Sony headset receiver, etc). Any time I rebooted, I got the same A0 code. I have switched BIOSes, no joy. I also cleared the CMOS multiple ways (shorting the coin cell battery holder, as well as holding the button). I do get a message that the CMOS has been reset, but when I try to go into BIOS, it hung for at least a minute before I gave up. I also tried to use the Go2BIOS button, no change. I also in there somewhere tried booting off a USB stick, but seeing as how I couldn't even hit BIOS, I'm not surprised nothing changed.
The OS SSD is fine and runs off my laptop.
I haven't tested the PSU yet nor have I removed the RAM as it's buried under the Phanteks but at this point, I do believe the motherboard is buggered.
At the time of power failures, I hadn't been performing anything odd, just working away. I also haven't changed anything on the machine in a long while, and I haven't reseated the CPU so very doubtful I have bent pin(s).
Any other thoughts before I RMA the board??

I'm not entirely sure if it's good to have Quadro mixed with GTX series..
Never had a problem actually, it runs an extra 4 2D displays while the GTX650 does the 3D rendering. Works pretty well in fact after the initial setup hurdles.

Usually A0 code is given out when something's wrong with BIOS. A2 however is the last code I see before it boots (both LED and screen).
Possibly some capacitors died? Did you see through the motherboard?
I will have another look. I pulled the heatsink to get at the RAM and didn't notice anything terribly wrong, but didn't look specifically at the caps, moreso burnt spots on the board (kind of hard with a black PCB!). Double checked just now with the HS mounted the caps I can see. Don't see anything bulging or noticeably amiss.
I did get a response from MSI tech about checking if the primary BIOS was corrupted, going down that road now.

    OS: 8.1 64bit
    intel:i7 3770k
    speakers:5.1 logitech
Drivers: downloaded from msi support section for the board (not the ones from the disc because it is in a different country)
comparing it to the one posted by HenryW(thanks BTW), you can see that i do not have the speaker fill options.
You don't have sound effects either, latest driver does not have itm lost mine no thanks to LiveUpdate, that is why I got rid of it quickly (should have known better) and had to look for an older version. Currently my version is 6.0.1.6873 has both.
You may have it with the drivers of the MB CD.

These processors should work on all Z97 boards and may work on some Z87 as well, but Z87 will probably get a BIOS update. Expect a BIOS update at the time of the release, around 25Jun.

Intel isn’t sure all Z87 motherboards will be up to the task though as the board will need a BIOS/UEFI update before being able to use one of these processors

  • MSI Mpower Z77 Code 62

So I booted my computer up like normal today, and it didn't post.
I looked at the LED readout and saw it was code 62. I did some reading, and found it may be the graphics card. I took it out, and tried again. Still 62. I read also that I should unplug it completely from the wall, remove the battery, and leave it for 5 minutes. I left it for an hour, put it back in, plugged it into the wall and tried again (Graphics card still removed). Still 62.
Is this an error that means the board is faulty? I don't think it's the RAM or the CPU, but I have no way of testing them (I don't have any spare DDR3 RAM or even another computer). I also don't have any friends who I can borrow hardware off of or test things in.

Ok, problem solved (But I don't know why).
I decided to throw everything back together, GPU, RAM, SSD, HDD, etc... It booted fine.
Like I say, I don't know why this is, but it seems to be fine now.
Maybe it's because I didn't have a display connected to the integrated graphics when I didn't have the GPU installed? I don't know, but as long as I don't have to wait weeks for a new board.
Mods can close this thread now if they like, since my problem has been solved. This is a server-esque machine so it runs 24/7 anyway, so as long as it doesn't restart, I see no reason for it to be a recurring error.

  • Strange email occurrence

I love my new Q10! I have had several Blackberrys, my last one being a Torch, and there is something strange happening with my email since I switched to Q10.  I use Outlook and retrieve email to my computer.  However, since I've switched to Q10, not all of my email actually retrieves to the computer! I wouldn't know I even received it except for my BB Q10 retrieves everything! I think I read something about how the email is now handled a little differently so what I need to know is, what do I do so that Outlook retrieves everything? All email remains on the server, so it's there to retrieve. Also, some friends are getting emails that are coming from my Blackberry email address, which I don't use, something about not receiving a message.  I also am getting random emails from [email protected] with the subject being Delivery Status Notification (Failure).  Thank you for your helpf!

It sounds as if you might need to go into settings and click to leave the messages on the server. If you don't and the Q gets the message before the computer it is then deleted and it's not there for the computer to get it. Go into Settings and Email. You should do this for both the Q and your computer.

All bios up to and including  bios 17.10 have current enough ME update?
    Thanks in advance

Go to BIOS/UEFI setup to see what version of ME you have with the BIOS. If it is ME FW version 8.1.30.xxxx you should use the 8.1.30.1349 windows driver.
If it is  ME FW version 8.1.40.1416 with the BIOS/UEFI you should use the 9.0.0.1310 windows driver.
The latest BIOS/UEFI updates for most boards holds the ME FW 8.1.40.1416 but the ME FW do not get flashed unless you use the forum flasher together with a special update file, or if you use the m-flash method but this is not safe to use with z77 boards.
The only way I know to see what version you have in the BIOS/UEFI is the go to setup.
