MPOWER z87 board shuts down right after boot

Today i got my msi z87 mpower board, 4x4GB corsair vengeance pro 2133 cl9 ram and a 4770k. I am using my old AX650, which definitely works and the H60 i had.
I can't pass posting, i crash literally within a split second after i press the power button. both 8pins and the 24 pin are  plugged in properly, i removed all RAM besides one, which i moved around the slots as well, i removed the GPU, i reseated the h60 and reapplied the thermal paste, i reseated the cpu, i reseated all cables 4 times. it just doesn't work.
the first time it would run but didn't show an image, after about a minute it turned off completely, after reseating the cables it now crashes immediately. I am completely out of ideas, if you guys don't come up with anything good i will have to RMA :(

"...hooked up everything correctly..."
"...he stuck a PCI-E 6 pin cord into the remaining 8 pin cpu atx female port..."
If that's true then it's not the same problem the OP had. Obviously if he did what is stated in the second statement then the first statement is not true.
Anyway if you are asking for help/advice then start your own topic instead of resurrecting/hijacking this topic.
I think you read into my post a little too much.
You are correct but BEFORE he plugged up the PCI-E to the extra CPU atx, the exact same issue was occurring. I might have questioned it if there was anything even minimally different after the new PSU, but it's the exact same. The old PSU obviously malfunctioned but the system itself seemed to show no signs of change.
I actually made the same mistake years ago with my intel core 2 duo. It seemed to fry my hdd but the rest of the system was fine. I guess it could just be chance on what does and doesn't die in the process. Point still is that his seems unchanged though.

  • Final Cut Express Shuts down right after capturing

    Hello all:
I am using FCE 3.5. I have used this for about a year now and I have developed a problem with FCE shutting down right after I hit escape. I run a lab for a university and it is doing it on ALL of them so it isn't an isolated incident. I repair permissions, reset the PRAM, trashed the prefs and I don't know what else to do.
I am running imac G5's using 10.4.11 and the new imacs running leopard. Both sets are doing it.
Any help would be appreciated since our classes start soon.
    Thank you.

Can you tie the crashes to a recent event: a software update, a new piece of hardware? What else is connected to the computers?
(You have, of course, triple-checked that the FCE Easy Setup matches the footage you're capturing, yes?)
After the program crashes, is the captured footage saved?
What's the lab setup? Does each student have an individual user account? On each computer?
    Lots of questions, I know...
    Here's a suggestion:
Use Disk Utility to repair permissions. Create a new admin account on one computer. Set the FCE Scratch Disk to the internal drive. Disconnect everything but the camera. Try to capture. See what happens.

  • Dreamviewer CS5 opens but shuts down right after first view again and again...without no error information

I have Adobe Premium CS5 for MAC. My Dreamviewer CS5 opens but shuts down right after first view again and again. With no error information.
I have tried to download it again (web download link) with reopening the computer, but still it does not work.
Did not ask any serial numbers at all so I assume I was able to "smell" existing program on computer.
As Dreamviewer is part of bigger package, do i have to install only this program, web design set or what?
Do I have to download some other programs to get it work? All other graphic and web programs open and work properly.
What to do? Will it install it again if not uninstalled first?

For something like this, I would try clearing the program cache first: Deleting a corrupted cache file
Then restore preferences if the cache trick didn't work: Restore preferences | Dreamweaver CS4, CS5, CS5.5, CS6
And finally, if neither work, reinstalling using the cleaner tool instructions here: Use the CC Cleaner Tool to solve installation problems | CC, CS3-CS6

  • Macbook pro 2012 shuts down right after start up!

macbook pro 2012 shuts down right after start up. I tried the recovery mode but disk doctor cannot repair Mac osX hard drive. This is the second time that I have to format hard drive and install agin all applications. please advise!

I am not familiar with "disk doctor" but if you used Disk Utility to repair or reformat the hard disk, and it failed again, it is very likely the drive itself needs to be replaced. It cannot be repaired.
If Disk Utility cannot repair a hard disk it definitely needs replacement.
All 2012 MacBook Pro models are less than a year old and therefore covered under Apple's standard one year warranty. Have them fix it.

  • PPC MacMini shuts down immediately after boot, LED blinks

A client gave me his PowerPC MacMini which boots up but then shuts down after a few seconds. Unfortunately, there's not enough time to open the system preferences between booting and automatic shutdown.
I've tried to boot the computer from a system DVD and with "T" pressed for target mode, but it always boots up completely from the internal drive. Booting with "Shift" pressed boots in safe mode, but the machine still shuts down after a few seconds.
Interestingly, the power LED blinks about once per second. I wasn't able to find anything about this on the Net.

    AndyO wrote:
If, on the other hand, the mini is starting up, and then failing, and the light isn't so much blinking as pulsing, then the system may be suffering protective shutdown as a result of overheating. That can be tested by seeing whether it runs longer after being left unplugged for several hours, thus being cold, than it does if it's been running (or attempted to be run) for some time, and is thus already warmed. In that event, the mini will need to be disassembled to some extent to try and identify whether the fan is running, the CPU heat-sink is firmly attached and the thermal pad which is squeezed between the underside of the logic board and the base of the system is replaced.
I have a Mac Mini Intel Core 2 Duo that is suffering almost the same symptoms (shut-down almost immediately after startup); however, it DOES appear to be for a variable length of time based upon how much time I let it sit and 'cool' down; therefore, I believe I'm experiencing an over-heating issue.
I've installed a matching 1GB pair of RAM about 1.5 months ago and all has been fine until now. The unexpected (which is now expected) shutdown after startup is occurring on both Mac OS X 10.5.2 and Windows Vista (on Boot Camp partition) ... of particular note ... the Windows side shuts down more quickly (likely due to it not having the same system monitoring/energy handling tools that would be available to the Mac OS X side ... so I would suspect it to over-heat sooner on the Windows side).
Successfully completed Hardware tests (simple & extended) reported memory and other system hardware was fine. 'Check/Verify Disk' on Mac/Windows side reported no issues with either partitions.
Attempts to reset the PRAM and SMC have not solved the problem.
There was one instance, after startup, that the fan ran at full speed continuously and noticed that the power light was not on at all ... at the time, I was on the Mac startup disk and it stayed up and running for about 20 minutes or more until I decided to shutdown and test the Windows side. Upon restart, the fan did not run continuously, and the Windows side shut-down shortly after start up.
Overall, I'm fairly convinced it is an over-heating problem. If anyone has any ideas or reference material to confirm or how-to-do "the CPU heat-sink is firmly attached and the thermal pad which is squeezed between the underside of the logic board and the base of the system is replaced" that would be greatly appreciated.
I am not ruling out sending the machine into the retailer for servicing/diagnostics; however, if there's a relative quick fix so that I don't have to identify and remove confidential/sensitive info first, that would be preferred.
    Thanks.

PS shutss down right after opening jpeg and other files.  Win7 32bit....  What gives?

Most likely a bad font.  Do you have any 3rd party fonts?

    Hi DBolick5,
Thanks for visiting Apple Support Communities.
If your Mac is not starting up after installing an update, first try booting into Safe Mode:
Mac OS X: What is Safe Boot, Safe Mode?
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1564
    Starting up in Safe Mode
To start up into Safe Mode (to Safe Boot), follow these steps.
Be sure your Mac is shut down.
    Press the power button.
Immediately after you hear the startup tone, hold the Shift key.
The Shift key should be held as soon as possible after the startup tone, but not before the tone.
Release the Shift key when you see the gray Apple logo and the progress indicator (looks like a spinning gear).
After the logo appears, you should see a progress bar during startup. This indicates that your computer is performing a directory check as part of Safe Mode.
To leave Safe Mode, restart your computer without holding any keys during startup.
    Regards,
    Jeremy

  • PXI-8106 shuts down shortly after boot, the power light is flashing.

How can I tell if this is a board power supply problem in the NI PXI 8106 or a PXI crate problem?   The time between shut downs decreases to the point where it will not boot at all.

    Hi dlknies-
Take a look at the PXI-8106 User Manual on page 3-14.  It says that a blinking Power LED indicates that one of the PXI or onboard supplies is operating outside of the normal limits or is not functioning.  You can attempt the repair yourself or you can have it sent back to National Instruments for an RMA.
I hope this helps.  Best of luck to you!

  • Used safe start to try and fix issues with safari on MacBook Pro but it shuts down right after it stops. What can I do.

Safari kept shutting down and someone suggested trying a safe start to correct issue. All this did was create a new oils sue as my MacBook Pro OS X 10.9.1 system only begins the safe start within lay a small portion of the bar filling and then shuts down. Now I cannot even get back to my regular screen.

    artbyval,
    what is an “oils sue”?
Have you tried booting into your recovery partition? To do so, hold down a Command key and the R key as you start up. It should eventually show a Mac OS X Utilites menu, from which Disk Utility can be selected. In Disk Utility, select the disk that your MacBook Pro boots from (typically named “Macintosh HD”). Once the disk is selected, press the “Verify Disk” button; if it shows problems, press the “Repair Disk” button. Once the verification/repair is complete, restart normally, to see if you can login as normal. Once you can log in again, see if Safari still has the same problem with shutting down.

  • Shut down right after power up

My iMac G5, which of course just left warranty, turned itself off today. Now, when I power it on, the screen comes on, and it starts to boot for 10-60 seconds and then shuts off, never at exactly the same place.
It does this over and over.
My SN does fall within the range of power problem iMacs.
What am I looking at? Any chance this is RAM?
    iMac G5 20 1.8   Mac OS X (10.4.3)

I am having the exact same problem. My SN did fall within the range and I called apple and they said it is not covered. It will start up in single user mode and I ran fsck and still not working. Starts up progress spins for a bit and then it shuts down and restarts itself. It does this over and over. Anybody have an idea?

  • Imac g5 shutting down right after startup

My computer had until today been operating perfectly. When I came into my office it was shut down ( I usually leave it on all the time). After restarting, I worked for about five minutes and then it suddenly shut down. The same thing recurred after 5 or 6 restarts before I gave up. Any suggestions? I assume this is an overheating or power supply issue.

  • Mac book shuts down right after start up

my macbook shuts off after initial start up

Assuming no issues with power adapter or power source, do an SMC and PRAM reset. If those don't work, take it in to Apple for service.
    SMC:
    Shut down the computer.
    Unplug the computer's power cord.
    Wait fifteen seconds.
    Attach the computer's power cord.
Wait five seconds, then press the power button to turn on the computer.
    PRAM:
    Shut down the computer.
Locate the following keys on the keyboard: Command, Option, P, and R. You will need to hold these keys down simultaneously in step 4.
    Turn on the computer.
Press and hold the Command-Option-P-R keys. You must press this key combination before the gray screen appears.
Hold the keys down until the computer restarts and you hear the startup sound for the second time.
    Release the keys.

  • Photoshop CS6 & CC shuts down right after startup

    Hello!
I've just got my self new lisence for adobe Lightroom, PS CC & CS6. Previously I had just PS CS5. Problem is that I can't get PS CS6 nor PS CC to start up, or more accurately to stay on more than one second. Now I'm asking help to get just the CS6 to work, as when that problem is solved, I believe also the CC -problem is solved too, as the problem is excatly the same. Lightroom works fine.
What happens when I now start up CS6; everything loads just fine, no errors or anything that is abnormal. At first time when I started CS6, I got a warning message (this is a translation from finnish to english so it might not be to the letter): "photoshop detected graphic cards that are not officially supported. If there are problems, remove the selection from settings, performance settings - use graphics processor". I haven't seen this message later (except when I tried CS6 with different windows account).
When cs6 (or cc) is started there's time about one second to open a menu window, when a window is succesfully opened the program stays on, and I can use any menu window that I want, and I can change any options. Right after menus are closed, the program closes. Mysterious. But, because of that, I'm able to go to the "performance settings" and try different selections - I've tried deselect the "use GPU", and I've tried to use all of the advanced settings (basic, normal, advanced), but the "USE OPENCL" choise is allways grayed out, and i'm not able to select that. Also cs6 detects my gpu right.
I thing this has something to do with GPU as the above message says, I just don't know what to try anymore.
Now what have I tried and what's done (using admin rights):
    - updated both nvidia gpu drivers (three different drivers been tried) and intell drivers
    - installation and removing
    - removed ps cs5
    - used adobe cleaning tool
    - used two differend registry cleaning tools (cc cleaner / wise cleaner) before installations
    - used shift when starting
    - disabled the gpu sniffer
    - tried logging out from creative cloud
    - deleted FNTCACHE.DAT from /system32
    - Tried different 3d settings from NVidia control panel only for the photoshop.exe (tried forcing Nvidia GPU, tried different cuda GPU settings

    Hi!
Win 7 64bit, tried in safemode with networking enabled, no help, same issue.
One funny thing more, I opened a pdf -file through explorer in cc and it asked me if i wanted to save the changes before closing application. I couldn't do anything for the pdf file, except to save it. ;]
What I want to say is, CC (or CS6) is not crashing, it's closing itself.

  • My Macbook pro keeps shutting down right after I log in. The power cord seems to be fine, so I think the computer has enough power. Right after logging in, it shows a grey background with a loading bar that loads only 1/4. Then it shuts down.

I have had my Macbook Pro since 2011 and it has been great until now. Suddenly, I can no longer get past the grey screen just after I log in. The grey screen appears with a loading bar, and the bar get 1/4 of the way complete, then the computer shuts off. My power cord seems to be working fine because this problem still occurred after using another power cord (from another Macbook). Keyboard does not light up, and the small green lights on the left side of the computer do not light up (this is an older version and these light indicate how charged the computer is). It is using the OS X Yosemite and recently had total clearing of the hard drive as it was transferring from one owner to another, so the hard drive isn't nearly full enough to be causing this problem. I've never run into this problem before with other Macbooks.
    Help!

Hi. When you were in the recovery drive doing permissions, did you try and run a repair of the boot drive? Did you try single user mode? Try these first and then go back and try to reinstall the operating system. When I say repair boot drive I don't mean permissions. There are both options in disk utilities. When you open disk utilities ,you will see in the left column  two drives plus possibly  a boot partition that look like an external driv. click on the second drive and in first aid use repair disk. If you still can't boot and it will not let you restore, you may have to do a clean install.   http://support.apple.com/kb/PH18869?viewlocale=en_US
