MS 6147 max memory and disk sizes

For the MS 6147 can anybody confirm the max Hard disk size and max memory.
It will not recognise the 40Gb HD I am trying to fit, and only recognises half of the 256Mb memeory simm I have fitted.
The BIOS version is 1.9 but I think that is a 'special' by Packard Bell.  The MSI BIOS download site makes no mention of disk problems rectified right up to V1.8 which is the latest, with the exception of one for the ZX chipset only which addresses EDMA 66 problem.
Anybody got a definitive answer on this?

Supports a maximum memory size of 256MB (8M x 8) or
   512MB (16M x 4) registered DIMM only
how many chips on dimm is what counts with older boards
go to drive makers web site get jumper settings to limit it to 32gb and try

  • Silly question regarding sol 8 containers and disk sizes

I've got what is probably just about the silliest question, but I can't seem to find an answer whilst searching around for the past couple of hours. Say I have 2 boxen, one is a sol 8 server and the other is a brand new install of sol 10/8. They have the exact same hardware, including disk size. If I want to turn the first box into a solaris 8 container running under the second, how do I reconcile the fact that the disk sizes are the same? The sol 8 box is only using, say, 25-30GB of the 72GB on the disk. Do I have to resize the slice into something smaller to enable it fit into a container on the second server? It would seem that is the case, but I didn't know if there was some magic I was not aware of. I've not done a ufsdump or flash archive before so I don't know if the 'empty' space on the disc will be disregarded, possibly allowing me to squeeze it onto my sol 10 server and allow me to resize it smaller in zfs. This topic isn't touched in all the tutorials I've read, so I assume it's either a completely retarded/braindead concern, or everyone always migrates these boxen onto servers with much more in the way of resources.
Sorry if I offended anyone with my ignorance ; P

No. Solaris8/9 containers make use the "branded zones" technology. But it's still the same thing and there's no "disk image", at least not like you might think of for VMware or Xen.
Now if you want to call a ufsdump or flash archive an "image", then that's fine. But you can see in either case, the free space or minor changes is size are irrelevant. You're just copying files. It's a system image, not a "disk image".
                      Installer Options :
                            Option          Description
-a filepath     Location of archive from which to copy system image.
Full flash archive and cpio, gzip compressed cpio,
bzip compressed cpio, and level 0 ufsdump are
supported. Refer to the gzip man page available in the
                                            SUNWsfman package.--

  • WMV and Disk Size issues

So I am a pretty avid Encore user and I have come into some issues lately and could use some help.
    Background-
I filmed a 14 hour conference on SD 16:9 mini dv
I captured 14 hours with Premiere as .AVI - I edited the segments and exported as .AVI
I used Media Encoder to convert the files to NTSC Progressive Widescreen High Quality (.m2v)   - Reduced the file size drastically
I then used Media Encoder to convert the .m2v files to .wmv files - Reducing the conference size to 5.65 GB in total.
I then imported the .wmv into Encore - my issues begin
At first, Encore CS4 imported the .wmv files without a problem however the disk size (of 5.65 GB) registered in Encore as around 13 gigs???  Why is that?  The .wmv files only consume 5.65 gb on my harddrive.  Where is this file size issues coming from?
So then Encore CS4 gets upset that I have exceeded the 8.5 DL Disk size and crashes...
I reopen the program and try to import my .wmv files again (forgot to save like an idiot).  3 of 8 .wmv files import and then Encore starts giving me decoder errors saying I cannot import the rest of the .wmv files...
Can anyone help me with this issue?  Im quite confused by all of this.  Things seemed to work fine (sorta) at first and now Encore is pissed.
I want to get this 14 hour conference on 1 DL DVD and I thought it would be as simple as getting the files reduced to a size sutable for a 8.5 gb disk.  Why is my way of thinking incorrect?
    Thanks for any help,
    Sam

Im still not giving up....  It's become an obsession at this point.  My uncle does this with kids movies for his children.   He'll download and compress entire seasons of children shows and put them all on one dvd which he then plays in a dvd player for them to watch.  Im currently trying to get ahold of him....
    Thanks for the help
    Sam
i've done this as well for shows that are never to be seen again for the light of day from the 80s and such... i use VSO Software's "ConvertXtoDVD v4" i ONLY use this for archival purposes of xvid or wmv or stuff that encore would throw fits over. the menus are all mainly default stock stuff. but for these projects i'm not concerned about menus or specific navigation, i just need to get the job done. i can squeeze around 15 hrs of 720x480 on one DL (it compresses the ever living dayligths out of the video... but for most of the source footage... it really doesnt matter at that point, its mostly all VHS archives i use for this program anyway) if you just absolutely HAVE to have a 1 disker, you could check that app out, burn it an see how it looks.
edited to add: that to really squeeze crap in, you can also use a DVDFab program (any ersion should do... Older ones are cheaper) make a disc image with ConvertX, if yiu have alot f footage it may push it beyond the normal boundary of a dvd-dl and fail the burn. So then you can just import the disc image into DVDFab, and choose it to burn to a DVD-DL, and it may compress it by about 3-7% more to fit it. I would NEVER use this method EVER for a client... But if you are just hell-bent on doing 1 disk. Tries these 2 apps out. It may work out if you can live with the compression.
if you do try this, I recommend trying this workflow. Open premiere with your first gem captured AVI. set up your chapters how you want them or whatever, then save each chapter or lecture or segment or whatever as it's own AVI. the. Import all those separately into ConvertX and set it up to play one after the other when each segment ends. [i can't confirm this 100%, because i usually drop in already compressed  files... but if for some reason it don't wanna work out... then i would  suggest dropping in the mts files instead] (if say you want a new "movie" for each lecture instead, and have chapters per movie that can be done too... But it's more work, but I can expound later if need be)  To save time on encoding, set up the menu to be the "minimalist" menu. It's strictly text. Then just create sn ISO. if you donthe full thing, I can almost guarantee you'll have to use DVDFab to burn to disc, because it'll probably be about 5-8% overburn.

When I restart my laptop its memory utilization is around 50%. If I run several programs(may be 2 or 3) like Internet browser and IDE like Netbeans my pc become very slow.
When I was working in my other laptop which runs Windows 7(with 4GB RAM) I never had such issue (I normally open heavy weight application simultaneously without any issue).
But right now I am unable to  my work on my new laptop with Windows 8.1. Most of the time its Disk usage also become 100%.

  • 2 things.. memory and disk utility

-first off, if i buy more memory, does that completely replace the memory i have? or are there open slots in my macbook?
-secondly, when i run disk utility/verify disk, i get the message:
    "Volume Header needs minor repair
    d.",1)
    Mac HD
Error: The underlying task reported failure on exit
    1 HFS volume checked
    Volume needs repair"
....but the option "repair disk" is unable to be selected... suggestions?

1.) The Macbook comes with a paired set of RAM modules. If you want to upgrade from your current configuration, you will need to completely replace the ones in there already. It is recommended to use paired modules if you want to upgrade to maintain maximum performance of the integrated graphics system, although this is not required.
2.) To repair the boot volume, you need to restart the computer and boot off the OS X restore disc that came with the computer. Insert disc 1, and restart the machine. When you hear the "Bong", press and hold down the "C" key to boot off the CD. You will be presented with the OS X install menu. At the top of the screen in the menu bar, one of the drop down menus will give you the option of running disk utility. Run it, and repair the boot volume. After it's done, simply restart the computer.

  • Max memory, and 1.3 vs 1.4

    Hi Guys.
I have a windows 2000 computer, with 2Gb of memory, running Sun's JVMs.
I'm using JRE 1.4.2_4, and I can only allocate 1.2Gb of memory (With the JVM switches). Any more and I get a 'cannot allocate memory' error.
How can I get more memory? If I upgrade my machine to 4Gb, will that help?
When using Java 1.3, I was able to allocate 1.5Gb of memory. I've now switched to 1.4, and only 1.2Gb is possible. Why is it lower now?
    Cheers,
    R.

This entirely OS based problem and it depends on this
libraries the JRE uses (They use the space their own way)
I have run a 1.8 GB JRE on Solaris (with 2 GB memory)
with no problems (Except if I want to run anything else)Yes but that is the limit on solaris. Again if you had added more memory it would not have allowed you to increase the maximum.
Running 1.5 may be better but using another OS like XP
or Linux will probibly make more difference.
You may also find adding more memory for the OS to
hide may also help.No 1.5 will not help. It will likely decrease the maximum on all OSes (as all other releases have done so.)
To increase the potential memory the following is required...
    - A 64 bit VM must be used.
    - An OS compatible with the 64 bit VM must be used.
And realistically to the above one would also have to have enough phyiscal memory to support the maximum. Although this is not necessary, the VM will run probably at least an order of magnitude slower if this is not the case.
I believe someone reported on the forums that they are running a VM with 16 gig of memory (64 bit VM of course.)

  • How should i allocate the right RAM and disk space to windows through boot camp or parallels ?

i am trying to understand how you need to set things up when trying to run windows from a mac ( using bootcamp / parallels ). i want to understand the implications around RAM.
i have a mac with 1terra SSD and 16 GB of RAM, and if i want to install windows i need to partition and allocate memory and disk space for windows.
now i would be running on windows :
    cad 2015
    revit / rhino
photoshop and some other graphic softwares
    so my questions are:
how do i decide how much space should be allocated to windows and once i decide that, can i change it later ?
how do i decide what RAM should be allocated to windows. and can i also change that in the future ?
now lets say i allocated 8 GB of RAM for winddows using bootcamp, does that mean that every time i log into my mac through OS, it will only be using 8GB of the total RAM ?
here's my last question : i have my parallels software yet to be installed, just as the windows 8 software. now should i use bootcamp to install windows ? could i install windows using parallels ? if yes which is better to use ?

    1. Windows needs 60GB for good performance, add the needs of the apps you intend to use and I would say no less than 100GB. (it can be changed later but it is not an easy task unless you pay for Camp Tune)
    2. You do not allocate Ram to Windows in Boot Camp. Windows will use all of it (64bit Windows) or 4GB (32bit Windows)
    3. See 2
    4. Use Boot Camp, Parallels will not allow Windows to run at full speed.
    General Notes:
    1. Make a complete backup of your Mac before you start! (do not skip this)
    2. Read the Boot Camp directions, then read them again.

  • Default OS performance counters processor, memory, logincal disk are missing in windows 2008 standard server

I have a windows 2008 standard server in which the default OS performance counters counters processor, memory, logincal disk are missing.
I tried using exctrlst.exe tool. This tool shows that the respective performance counters are already enabled but when I check in perfmon.msc, these counters are not visible.
I also tried to rebuild the performance counters from the OS disk. but it did not worked. still the counters are missing.
Because of these counters are missing, am unable to monitor the utilization of CPU, memory and disks.

  • Is there a max SATA disk size in OSX 10.4.11 and G4/1.25?

    Hello,
I am trying to set up a G4/1.25 (2 gig in memory) as a fileserver with a SATA card and 2 x 3 TB seagate disks. This is the setup:
    http://lowendmac.com/ppc/mdd-power-mac-g4-1.25-ghz.html
    http://firmtek.com/seritek/seritek-1v4/
    http://eshop.macsales.com/item/Seagate/ST3000DM001/
The system is OSX 10.4.11. I am unable to initialize the disks in disk utility. The process starts but then halts and says that it can not continue.
My question is if there is a max disk size in OSX 10.4.11?
    Any help greatly appriceated.
    Best regards,
    Ingolfur Bruun

    Hello again,
I tried to work my way around armed with your input and succeeded
By using a FireWire dock I was able to see the disks in 10.4.11. What I did was to partition the disks with ONE partition in Disk Utility and then format with GUID partitioning scheme instead of the Apple Partition Mapping scheme which I had done before. And as I am using a ATA disk as a startup disk it dosen't matter if the 3 TB disks are not bootable. They will only be used for data, not as system disks.
You saved my day! Thanks again.
    Best regards,
    Ingolfur

  • Problem with Photoshop CS5. Memory and Hard disk space Mac OSX

Just got CS5 Master Suite.  Whenever I open photoshop it takes a ton of memory 1 gig +. When I open  files it takes up more and more until it takes up all my memory and hard  disk space. I open a simple multi layered file that is 25 megs in size  to work on it. Before I know it photoshop is taking 20gigs+ of my hard  disk space along with 3+ gigs of system memory. Is there a memory  problem in photoshop cs5?
    Thanks!
    Joseph
    UPDATE:
So I just opened the 25 meg file  in photoshop cs5 and watched my free space on my hard drive go down 8  gigs the instant I opened it. It went from 27 gigs of freespace to 19  instantly. As I open more files and close others it works till my harddrive goes to zero space... stalls the computer big time. Only way to correct it is to quit photoshop cs5 and wait a few minutes for the space to return... and it takes a few minutes for it all to return.
I am running a Macbook Pro with OSX 10.6., 4 gigs of ram on board.
    anyone else having simular problems?

  • Nio ByteBuffer and memory-mapped file size limitation

I have a question/issue regarding ByteBuffer and memory-mapped file size limitations. I recently started using NIO FileChannels and ByteBuffers to store and process buffers of binary data. Until now, the maximum individual ByteBuffer/memory-mapped file size I have needed to process was around 80MB.
However, I need to now begin processing larger buffers of binary data from a new source. Initial testing with buffer sizes above 100MB result in IOExceptions (java.lang.OutOfMemoryError: Map failed).
I am using 32bit Windows XP; 2GB of memory (typically 1.3 to 1.5GB free); Java version 1.6.0_03; with -Xmx set to 1280m. Decreasing the Java heap max size down 768m does result in the ability to memory map larger buffers to files, but never bigger than roughly 500MB. However, the application that uses this code contains other components that require the -xMx option to be set to 1280.
The following simple code segment executed by itself will produce the IOException for me when executed using -Xmx1280m. If I use -Xmx768m, I can increase the buffer size up to around 300MB, but never to a size that I would think I could map.
    try
    String mapFile = "C:/temp/" + UUID.randomUUID().toString() + ".tmp";
    FileChannel rwChan = new RandomAccessFile( mapFile, "rw").getChannel();
    ByteBuffer byteBuffer = rwChan.map( FileChannel.MapMode.READ_WRITE,
    0, 100000000 );
    rwChan.close();
    catch( Exception e )
    e.printStackTrace();
I am hoping that someone can shed some light on the factors that affect the amount of data that may be memory mapped to/in a file at one time. I have investigated this for some time now and based on my understanding of how memory mapped files are supposed to work, I would think that I could map ByteBuffers to files larger than 500MB. I believe that address space plays a role, but I admittedly am no OS address space expert.
Thanks in advance for any input.
    Regards- KJ

  • Disk size and backups

    Hello
I wander what is required disk size on hana when migrating from e.g Oracle to Hana?
E.g under oracle I have 1Tb database (and something more if I backup also at OS level)
What will I have under Hana ? How much to backup?
    Thank you a lot

    Dear Jan,
The first thing we need to perform before migrating from AnyDb to HANA is memory sizing. SAP provides specific notes for memory sizing of different SAP Applications as mentioned bel     ow

That forms one of the parameter for sizing the HANA DB.
Based on this sizing information one would use the suitable T-Shirt sized HANA Appliance from the hardware vendor. We then have to apply the
Traditional the RAM should be atleast 2x(uncompressed_DB / Compression factor) and the Disk space would be at least 3-4xRAM for persisitance layer and 1xRAM for logs.
The compression factor might be around 4-7 times depending on the type SAP application.

  • Max. disk size in A1000?

    Hi,
Does anybody know what the max. disk size is that works in a A1000 array? We have so far used 76GB disks in an 8 slot A1000.
    Thanks

    Hello Erwin,
SCSI is less limited than IDE. The next bigger size should work.
    The Seagate ST3146707LC (146.8GB - 10000 RPM Ultra-320) and Fujitsu MAT3147NC (146.8GB - 10000 RPM Ultra-320) are listed as compatible.

  • D1000 Max Disk Size

I have found conflicting information. I am hoping one if the experts here can help. I am trying to find out what the max disk size is for the D1000's. The handbook says 73GB but the sunstore sells 146GB drives that are for the D1000. So which is it? I don't want to buy 12 x 146GB drives to find they won't work in that configuration.

    Thanks!

    Hello Andrew,
the 146GB disks are listed in the <b>Full Components List</b> (your first link). If you order the disks from Sun, you can confirm that information.
While the disks work in the D1000, you should keep in mind that the disk array is attached with Ultra40 and these disks are Ultra320. The disks are capable of a much higher transfer rate than the connection can support.
