MS-6191 256mb PC100

Hello all,
Recently I bought a 256mb PC100 stick to install on my MS6191 but the bugger doesn't want to boot with it.
According to the manual the board can take 256mb per bank upto 512mb max on 2 banks. The new stick is tested and found ok in another system.
At the moment I am running in dimm1: 128mb and in dimm2 64mb of ram.
the specs of these are..

Would appreciate any help in the right direction, Thanks!

the 256 dimm would need to have 2x as many ram chips on it as your 128 has
most problems with new ram is they are much denser, have a few chips for a big dimm
than the ram was around when your board was made

and try it alone as well

  • MS-6195 memory upgrade

    Hi,
My system is based on Ms-6195 K7 pro and Athlon 700 mhz. 192 Mb Ram (128Mb module + 64Mb module)
    Problem:
when I try to upgrade memory with a sdram 256Mb PC100 module, the memory test can't finish and my system don't boot.
Please can you tell me how configure coreectly the BIOS or tell how to do.

    MS-6195 memory upgrade.
I have also tried using new PC100 256Mb memory and am getting nowhere.
The ones that I have bought are single sided, [8 chips on only one side]
and do not work with my motherboard, however, if I put them into another,
older PC, it shows up as 128Mb.
So I assume that the DIMM is working OK, and that the 'old' PC has a memory size limitation??
I have tried the same things as wbs and Grommit and got the same results.
So I assume that the answer is in getting older DIMMs, double sided with 8 chips on either side.
Does this seem to be about right???

  • Beige G3 for school use?

    Heylo
Kinda long post. My mum works as a teacher in a primary school for reception class (im not sure what this is in america but its the first year of school). They have these ancient RM's running windows 98. Their hardware spec is around say, within the 200-300 mhz range. These are old celeron processors that came out around 5 years ago, and the most ram i have seen in one is 64mb. in addition, they have itsy bitsy little 5gb harddrives and on them is windows 98 with RM software managing user accounts. So you have the teachers account, the admins account and the kids account. Because microsoft obviously didnt do a good enough job with restricted accounts. If you log on as admin, you get the normal windows 98 desktop. When you log on as a child, there is no password and you get a very restricted desktop with different windows holding links to applications. there is no way they can change any settings on these machines.
Now regarding reliability. i dont think the machines have had the OS wiped and reinstalled. ever. they have had a few problems where sound stops working, colour goes to 256 etc. But biggest problem of all is printing. First, these are not network printers, but instead inkjets with print servers attached to them. There are 3 machines in her class room and she says they all have problems printing. Im not exactly sure what she says goes wrong, but they somehow cant find or send data to the printer on the network. I have been over several times, having to remove and reinstall the printer and it gets very annoying when other small problems like this occour and i have to come out and sort them. I also feel that these problems shouldnt occour in the first place, because i simply dont understand how it can happen when most of the time the restricted accounts are used. The machines dont have any spyware or adware.
They are really beginning to show their age now. over the years i have had to change cd-roms and floppy drives but recently, a computer in one of the other classrooms had a major breakdown and in the end needed the motherboard replacing. Before i did the repair, they were thinking of buying a new machine. They were quoted £445 for a new computer (im hoping that included a mouse, keyboard, monitor and speakers) but i then reluctantly said they could get a dell cheaper. But they are so low on money, after i offered a second hand motherboard replacement for £20 (500mhz celeron or pentium) they immediatley went for that.
    Now onto the main feature.
My dad bought a second hand Beige G3 mac from a shop somewhere in london for £10. Its exact specs were: G3 266mhz processor, 192mb of ram, 4GB harddrive, Cd-rom, floppy drive and zip 100 drive. My mum has this software the kids use, its dead simple mainly flashed based stuff. The thing that really stood out, is that these games are also macintosh compatible. The recommended requirements were: G3 233mhz, 128mb of ram, and 10.2 or later.
I have no use for this machine. Overall we have at least 5 macs in the house!! I would love to give this away and replace one of the aging machines. I have shoved in it a USB card, put in a bigger 40GB drive and have managed to install OS 9 on it.
Now looking up information on this computer, it seems it'll take up to Mac OS 10.2. Currently i dont have a copy, but i know i could find one on ebay for cheap. point is, would this make a good machine for these simple educational flash games. I think OS X's interface is also ideal as its so simple and easy to use, and i find it to be of better reliability. Currently i cant think of any disadvantages except for this machine might be a little too slow and fustrating. I am curious as to how the old onboard graphics will cope with the animations and graphics of OS X.
oh and whether the whole thing is a good idea! dont wont to give them something worse.

i dont think it would be worse than those PC's. you can buy a G3 450 zif cpu for cheap and it would blow all the other pc's away. in order to run OS X and not be dog slow it to upgrade the ram to at least 256mb ram ( USEING the propper 256mb ram from the link below). you can also upgrade the onboard vram with a 4mb sodimm upgrade wich makes the total of 6mb vram onboard and you would get better video proformance than just with the stock 2mb vram.
the 256mb pc100 here is the type you need for the Beige G3 this is also what i use in mine and i couldent be happier.
    http://www.datamem.com/memoryselect_frame.asp_Q_C_E_1318-G3BW300
but you could also buy a ATI Radeon 7000 Mac Edition pci video card for cheap and would be a better upgrade than the Vram upgrade and it would run way faster than useing the onboard video with the vram upgrade ever would. it would be compatable with the monitors there at school not requireing a converter to go from a Mac to a VGA monitor. i bought my ATI Radeon 7000 ME PCI for around $30 USD shipped about 6 month's ago so it prolly would be cheaper now.
but if you buy the Radeon 7000 Mac edition make shure it say's Mac Edition PCI. if you get a G3 450mhz zif cpu out of a B&W, and the Radeon 7000 Mac Edition and say 256mb Ram it would run great in OS X 10.2.8.
BTW what kind of Beige G3 is it, a DT = desktop, MT = mini tower, or a AIO = ALL IN ONE.
But yea the RAM is a bit low to run OS X at a good speed you will run into hiccup's with the ammount of ram you have now. the G3 450mhz CPU i bought off ebay was arrount $50 USD with shipping and that was about 4 month's ago but it results with a nice speed boost with the ATI Radeon 7000 ME PCI video card.

  • G3 B&W 450 worked great then... NO CHIME! nada. After Zif CPU & RAM upgrade

I never should have added ram and a Zif 1ghz G3 at the same time... can't trouble shoot as easily now.
I've done my personal obligatory 2 day search for answers before posting a question....
I've done all the yada yadas with CUDA and battery....
I've found several people with this problem on the net. One gentleman in particualar purchased a new logic board on ebay and WALA it worked... which way do I go?
Any help would be cool. I ebayed the ram but did my research and found it to be compatible. Oh, and the ram was seated correctly too.
    Thanks.

Ok your BWG3 had a 450MHz G3 and you upped to a 1GHz G3 Zif upgrade and Added RAM.
After any major upgrade its good habit to reset the CUDA/PMU swtich. you said you've done that.
I am going to assume the 1GHZ G3 CPU is from PowerLogix, I know very recently PowerLogix upgraded the CPU/Cache software for OSX Tiger so you should make sure you've go the most recent version for that.
I do not know if a Firmware upgrade is required to upgrade the BWG3 to the 1GHZ G3, i know to upgrade it to a G4 processor a firmware upgrade is mandatory. You should check with the Maker of the 1GHz G3 processor if the computer required any Firmware upgrades.
Your RAM. BWG3's have a 100MHz system bus so if you max the RAM out you would of put in 4x 256MB PC100 168pin 3.3v unbuffered non-parity SDRAM DIMM's. If you used PC133 you should have all 4 DIMMs be the same Speed and Spec. Mixed RAM of different speed is not good.
I sincerely hope when you swapped out the processor and RAM you were wearing an anti-static wrist strap otherwise a static discharge could have easily rendered your computer unusuable in any manner of ways.
not sure much else to ask or suggest. but I do hope you get it to work again.

  • Question about internal Bluetooth connector on Tecra 8100?

    Hello all.
I have a pt810e-13c52-sp notebook. Upgraded to 512MB by using 2 toshiba 256mb pc100 modules bought in ebay, upgraded to a PIII 850 also got in ebay, and upgraded to a bigger 40GB wdc wd400e hard disk, with much less noise than 12GB original one.
Messing with my computer i have found an internal "bluetooth" connector next to the internal one that belongs to the keyboard.
Why is this?? Is there any unreleased Bluetooth module for Toshiba Tecra 8100??

    Hi Toka
Maybe I am wrong but I have found info that Tecra 8100 has no BT and this model can not be upgraded with BT module. Usually BT will be used just sometimes and if you need BT you can use USB BT stick. It is pretty easy to configure it and this small part can be used whenever you need it.

  • Max Concurrent connections supported by UTL_HTTP

    Hi,
Can anyone help me out to find how many concurrent connections can UTL_HTTP.REQUEST_PIECES support. Is there any parameter that governs max no.of connections? If so, pls post the parameter name.

Assaf:  as always, thanks so much for the info!
When you say double-sided, do you mean a memory stick which has chips on both sides; as in 8 chips on each side?
I bought the Kingston memory one stick of 128MB PC100/PC133 which has chips on one side.  I also bought the 256MB PC100/PC133 which has chips on both sides.
I currently have both these memory sticks in the MS 6119 and they appear to be working well.  I am running Prime95 torture test just to make sure everything is working as it should be.
Currently I have the following memory in the MS 6119:
Bank 0 - the original PC100 128MB stick which has 8 chips on each side.
    Bank 1 - the Kingston (KVR133Q/128R) PC100/PC133 128MB with 8 chips on one side.
Bank 2 - the kingston (KVR 133Q/256R) PC100/PC133 256MB with 8 chips on both sides.
The total is, of course is 512MB - and appears to be working just fine.  Windows LOVES RAM  :D

  • I Upgraded My G3 to G4 1ghz.  Is what I'm experiencing common?

    Hello,
I upgraded my g3 400 to a g4 1 Ghz. Thigs seem quicker, but iMovie stutters, apps open slower, and it doesn't feel as smooth as my G3 800 iBook in window opening.... and other types of typical actions.
    Thanks

david... how much ram do you have in your BWG3?
1GB is the max and is good idea to have. I got 4x 256MB PC100 CL2 SDRAM DIMM's from OWC, and everything is better.
    Sonnet's 1GHz G4 is pretty slick from what I hear. I been planning on taking my current BWG3 rev2 w/ 500MHz G4 to a 1GHz G4.
sometimes just pimping out the engine is not enough. slow HD access speeds can hinder your computer too. get a faster HD controller and faster HD...
video can use help the old card in most BWG3's was only 16MB. for $130 you can pump up the graphics to 128MB with a Radeo 9200 PCI. not a bad price, plus the Radeom 9200 has Svideo, DVI, and VGA out.
lastly BWG3's can run OSx 10.2, 10.3 or 10.4. as well as 9.2.2 but do ya need it?
9.2.2 works great on my BWG3 as does 10.2.8.

  • Big RAM and little RAM for Wallstreet

    Hi,
I just received my 512MB (2 256MB chips) RAM for my PowerBook G3 Wallstreet. One of the chips is the normal size and the other one is much bigger, but it will still fit in perfectly, it's just alot wider, like double the other chip. My question is: Which chip goes in the bottom slot and which goes in the top?
    Thanks

Well, I installed the modules and it seems to run great (recognizes all 512MB). If it starts to act weird I'll put the 192MB back in but it does seem to run just fine. And, as I said, the seller guarantee's that the RAM will work in this machine so If It causes my machine to stop running then they're responsible. Here's the actual description from the auction:
This auction is for 512MB KIT MADE OF 2PCS OF 256MB PC100 SO DIMMS. ONE WILL FIT IN THE UPPER SLOT AND ONE WILL FIT IN THE LOWER SLOT OF THE POWERBOOK G3 WALLSTREET/LOMBARD VERSIONS. These modules have been tested in our ISO 9001:2000 Government approved facility. Like all modules we sell, these modules have a LIFETIME WARRANTY and is GUARANTEED to be compatible with your Model.

  • A20m - adding memory

Hi to all in this group!
I recently wanted to upgrade my trusty old A20m from a low 128MB to a full house 512MB, so shopped around and finally bought two 256MB PC100 SODIMMs. So far so good. Problems started when I added one of the new memory blocks to the old one – I got 384MB for sure, but the processor speed sank to 644MHz in my computer – properties. Swapping the 128 to a new 256 was not so good either – only the block in slot 1 was recognized, and the second one was absent (no changes when swapping 256s, both working properly in slot 1). Processor speed dropped to a mere 524MHz . As I know it the A20m has an 800MHz CPU (as can be seen in the BIOS) and is able to address 512MB of memory (2x 256MB PC100). Weird situation.
Anyone knowing what is going wrong here and how to make things go right?

    Welcome to the forum!
The things are right when it comes to CPU speed. By adding RAM you've lowered the pressure on CPU, and it will now take more to get it working at full speed, which is exactly the way it's supposed to be. There's no need for it to run at 100% all the time, when it has to, it will...that is the very idea od SpeedStep technology that your machine is equipped with.
As for RAM recognition, update the BIOS and see whether that helps.
    Good luck.
    Cheers,
    George

  • T20 *86U* w/black screen....possible upgrades?

I got a laptop from a friend, but it doesn't work. *it was 100% free*  All I have to do to use it is fix it.  Sounds simple enough, but finding out what I've got has turned into a real nightmare.  Basically, it powers up, with no beeps, and has a black screen.  I've read a lot of posts here, and according to the manual, I need a new system board.  Is this my only solution?  I read over at FixYa.com about taking it apart, pushing the power button x times, and dancing naked under the new moon to appease the gods of IBM while facing west.  None of that worked for me though.
I know it is a ThinkPad T20 2647-86U from the back of the machine, apparently this means I have a PIII 700MHz processor, 6x DVD-ROM, 14.1 XGA LCD, and 2x128MB RAM, with Windows 2k Professional.  The manual says I need a 12P3360 system board, but I was wondering what other motherboards will actually work in this laptop?  I was hoping for some more modern features to be available for it, since this machine was put together back in Jan, 2001. *yes I took it apart*
I found some 933MHz/1GHz motherboards, but would one of these work in this format?   If not, does anyone know where I can find the correct part number or a list of compatible parts, since most everything I find is beginning in 08K* rather than 12P*?  The laptop will be running some flavor of Linux, so the processor upgrade isn't a huge issue.  I would probably benefit from larger RAM capacity though, so any help would be appreciated.

Thank you for the welcome, and for the quick reply!!
I have that already.  That's where I got the system information from.  I see that there are "optional FRUs" available for RAM, including 256MB PC100 and 512MB PC133 SODIMMs.  Any idea which system boards can accept these?  It looks like I'm stuck with the PC100, as those are the only ones listed for the T20/21/22, but the manual is vague on the options.
    System Boards:
    for T20 (all models except 2647-5xx, 9xx, Lxx)    12P3360
    for T20 (2647-5xx, 9xx, Lxx)                                 12P3363
    for T21 (all models except 2647-5xx, 9xx, Cxx)   12P3366
    for T21 (2647-5xx, 9xx Cxx)                                 12P3369
    for T22 (2647-3xx, 7xx Bxx)                                 26P8096
    for T22 (all models except 2647-3xx, 7xx,Bxx)    26P8098
It also lists the CPU's for the T20/21/22 as being
CPU, Pentium III 650 MHz    10L1405
CPU, Pentium III 700 MHz    10L1417
CPU, Pentium III 750 MHz    08K3191
CPU, Pentium III 800 MHz    08K3246
CPU, Pentium III 850 MHz    08K3248
CPU, Pentium III 900 MHz    08K3346
CPU, Pentium III 1 GHz        08K3392
And the system board is the only solution for my black screen problem, I take it?
EDIT: So I could use this board? IBM ThinkPad T21 (12P3366)   It has 512Mb RAM available, according to this page, which is what I want.

  • Will my PB G4 handle 10.4xx?

    Hi,
    I have a Powerbook G4, 500mhz, 512mb ram (256mb pc100 + 256mb pc133) and 80gb hd.
Is 10.4 heavier than 10.3 - I mean, will my PB be slower if I install 10.4xx?
Is it easy to upgrade? (my thought was to clone harddrive before I start)
Would my PB be faster if I get more RAM?
    thank you!

Hi thaa, Welcome to Apple Discussions.
if you're running 10.3 now without issue, you'll be fine with 10.4. Here are the System Requirements for 10.4 While you exceed them, the added RAM will help. IMO it needs at least 512MB the more the merrier.
Yes, the upgrade install is like any other install. (Oh, you may find you get a double boot on restart only the first time. This would be normal for a 10.4 installation.)
Cloning your hard drive is ALWAYS a good idea!
And be sure to run "Verify Disk" in Utilities/Disk Utility before you begin the upgrade and repair permissions when finished.
Good luck. Let us know if you have further questions.
EDIT: After the upgrade apply the 10.4.10 Combo Updater PPC and repair permissions again.

  • Ms 6163 Pro

    Hello all.
I just purchased a used system and am having troubles getting Windows 2000 or XP running.
    System Specs
    6163 PRO VER:2 (Blue C Sticker)
    Intel PIII 667MHZ Processor
    2 126MB PC100
    1 256MB PC100
    BIOS Settings
    Version: W6163MJ V3.9 090400
    CPU Voltage: 1.65V
    CPU Speed: Manual
    CPU Ratio: X 5
    CPU/PCI Frequency: 133/33Mhz(On)
    Chipset Voltage Adjust 3.3V
    Problem
If the BIOS is set to run at 66MHz the system runs fine but obviously isn't using the PIII 667 MHz chip to it's potential.  When I try to install XP or 2000 it gets to an intermittent point in the setup and then hangs.  Both install CD's work on other machines so there is nothing wrong with the CD.
    Any ideas?

and you would need pc 133 as well

  • G4 AGP, Apps crashing, System freezing, Finder relaunching it's self...Help

I'm having problems with my G4 recently upgraded to Tiger 4.7.
I upgraded my Processor (original 400Mhz) to a Sonnet Encore 1.4MHz about a year ago with 512MB PC133 Ram. I was originally running Panther 3.9 with these upgrades fine till about 5 months ago when I found that applications began to crash and the computer started to freeze dead! keyboard, mouse everything... This gradually started to get worse over this period as some applications would not start up at all. I was using Disk Utility on a daily basis to combat this and used iDefrag to try and clean up my system.
I recently purchased Tiger thinking that this would solve all my problems. It took several hours to install, problems where; installer quitting, computer freezing/crashing... same as before OS upgrade! I strip the machine right down only using the original AGP Rage128Pro Graphics card and 2x 128MB Ram boards and just about managed to install Tiger (upgrade processor was still installed). After re-installing my upgrades the problems still continued... Before I start the task of eliminating everything one by one could the problems be with; CPU? RAM? Graphics Card? Boot ROM? or could it be something more serious?
(Graphics card was originally installed under 400 MHz CPU with no problems)
    Any suggestions..
    Thanks...

Hi, James, and welcome to the Discussions!
    I have a few thoughts:
Zero out your hard drive before trying another fresh install of Tiger. This will map out any bad sectors on the drive, which can otherwise lead to data corruption.
Try swapping out/stripping down your RAM to check for RAM problems. If you can get an OS X system successfully installed, download and run Memtest to thoroughly check the RAM. If you're uncomfortable running Memtest from Single User Mode, which is best, then download the Rember GUI interface for Memtest and run it while booted.
Insure you're using a black-colored, retail version of Tiger when doing the install, and not a gray OEM disc from another Mac.
The problems associated with your Panther system going from bad to worse may or may not be related to what you're experiencing now. Generally, when the OS gets corrupted for one reason or another, it goes from bad to worse when it gets to the point of having to constantly use Disk Utility to Repair the volume. The freezes cause sudden shutdowns and the drive data doesn't get properly written, causing even more corruption. Disk Utility may be able to fix the directory, but it can't fix a corrupted operating system file that's missing, corrupted, or only half-written to disk. Eventually it becomes hopeless to try and continue without a reinstall...
