MS-6380 and AGP Fast Writes?

Greeting All!  :D
I have a K7T266 Pro (MS-6380) mobo and recently bought a Radeon 9700. After a clean install of WindowsXP and installing the newest drivers for everything I have a machine that runs stable, but I'm not getting quite the performance I was expecting. After a bit af tweaking I was able to get my framerates and 3DMark scores respectable, but I can't enable AGP Fast Write. Trying to enable AGP FW causes a complete system meltdown. My question is, does this motherboard support AGP FW and if so, does anyone with this mobo use it and how much does it increase performance?
Thanks,
Robb

I do use that MB w/ AGP FW enabled and my system remains stable under 98SE and Xp pro, however I'm only using a Ti200 nvidia based card. So drivers may be the problem as ATi is famous for their driver issues, keep in mind that card is fairly new and it usaully take ATi awhile to get everything together.

How can I disable AGP Fast Write with the MSI 875P Neo-FIS2R ? I can't find an option for this in the BIOS !

You wont usually find this option in most MB BIOSES , as the only Option that SOME BIOSES Have is the Option to enable, disable SBA (Side Band Addressing) for the AGP Bus....In order for you to Disable or Enable the FW, You Must have the Option in your Vidio Drivers Controll Panel.....If you have a NVIDIA Card, you Must go to  http://www.guru3d.com  And Download the program "NVHardpage" and then Open the Program and you wil have the Choice to Enable these options and they will then appear in your Vidio driver CP >> "Activate "Coolbitts" (this is NVIDIAS Overclocking Utility) Activate "Harware Options", and then Activate "AGP Options" and finally Activate "Performance Options"........If you have a ATI Card then you must Download one of thier "Tweeking Utilities".......I will Post the Direct "Link" for NVHardpage in a Minute, just say yes to the Lic. Agree. and download......Here>> http://download.guru3d.com/nvhardpage/  ...........Sean REILLY875

as some of u may be aware the 9600 family of cards are very picky about fast writes. In order to run games without lock ups/crashes i must enable fast writes. The problem is that when i do, i get corrupt text, lines around my cursors, video lag etc etc. I recently switch to a barton 2500 that is running a 1.87ghz at 133fsb, before i ran an 1800 that did not have any of these problems with fast write enabled. bios and xp recognixed it as a 2500+ and i have the ratio set to auto and memory set to HCLK. I tried varios drivers for the gfx card and all produced the same results. Also tried all combinations of bios fast write on gfx control panel off, on etc. any ideas?
    TIA

fast write disabled = game willl lock, the 9600 family of cards are notorious for this, i was able to fix my corrupt text and cursor problem by moving the slider under troubleshooting in the ati panel down a notch. in game im still seeing some problems though, hopefully the game specific forums can give me some help. thiis is really annoying because the dam game ran fine with my 1800 i went to the 5.09 drivers on the reccomendation from another forumite.

  • Fast Writes Supported But Disabled

I've got a KT4 Ultra (without FISR) and a Radeon 9000 (without Pro).
I've got FastWrites enabled in my BIOS, but every program I use says that it is disabled.
I've tried some drivers and it's all the same.
I've also tried to enable it with smartgart and some tweak programs, but every time I reboot, it is disabled.
(I have to reboot every time I enable this if I want changes to take effect)
    Why does it happen?
Do I have to flash my BIOS  8o ?
    It's all another KT4 problem?
    Maybe it's a Radeon 9000 problem?
By the way, I have the VIA 4.43 Drivers and the Radeon 6166 and 6193 drivers for XP.
    Sorry for my english.

    Hi,
    Have you tried with PowerStrip?
Enabling AGP Fast Write is done by the display card itself. The BIOS actually "facilitates" the display card if it supports this feature.
You might want to contact your Radeon 9000 manufacturer to confirm on this.

  • MSI 865PE-NEO2-FIS2R AGP Speed & fast writes

Does anyone know how to enable either or both of these items I have just purchased an ATI 9800 Radeon and my AGP speed is only 4X and fast writes are not enabled ?

First let me say thanks for your input.
From within my driver tab SMARTGART I have 2X, 4X, 8X it is set at 4X if I slide the slider to 8X it makes me reboot and it's still at 4X.

If I put the same card into my other computer with an AMD XP3200 on an Asus A7N8X it boots into windows by default at AGP 8X
Any ideas ? I know some motherboards I have had have this option in the bios.

  • Nvidia fast writes

Well, my problem is with a geforce fx 5600 on a amd64 running nvidia's 64bit driver i only get 2300fps with composite extension. I am using renderaccel and nvagp, but people tell me they seem to be getting twice that. So i was wondering if anyone knew how to force fast writes. My motherboard seems to support (checked the bios, sba and fast writes are enabled), the card seems to support it (check /proc/driver/nvidia/agp/card), but its still not enabled. sba seems to work according to /proc/driver/nvidia/agp/status, but fast writes is disabled. as you can tell i'm trying to squeeze as much out of this card as possible  its overclock by 77mhz...

  • MSI 645 ULTRA - DOES IT SUPPORT FAST WRITE -

MSI 645 ULTRA - DOES IT SUPPORT FAST WRITE -
coz i want to enable it so i can get higher 3dmarks score.
so i'm wondering if it supported but i think it doesnt but not sure.
    k thx.

I am assuming here, that it is always on and that turning it off isnt a option via the less than robust bios' that MSI gives us.  That being said, there is a utility called NVMax that allows you to switch it on and off as well as 2x/4x agp, assuming again, that you have a NVidia graphics card.
Try that Emazy, Im curious to see if you get lockups like I do when I check it off.  For me at least, it appears to be on, but greyed out.  Sisoft says that it is capable of fastwrites but not enabled.
As I mentioned before and as Assaf confirmed, the difference is negligeable and in most cases causes to instability.
I think Fast Writes was as big a hype as MMX was. :]

  • KT6V and AGP mode problem

    Hi,
I have MSI KT6V motherboard and I'm using latest bios version(2.0) with it. Problem is that I have MSI Radeon X1950 pro AGP card that won't work AGP 8X mode(it's same thing with 3 different other motherboards that I have used, with different chipsets etc. On AGP 4X mode it works like a charm).
With this motherboard I can't change AGP mode. It's always on AUTO(option is "grayed out" and cannot be changed). So is there anything that I can do? From my earlier experiences I know that graphic card works but only on AGP 4X mode.

Quote from: Fredrik on 08-April-09, 02:58:33
    What PSU have you got?
    What is the GPU temp.?
But in fact I think the problem is with driver. Like been suggested Fast Write off.
Right now I using Antec True 480P PSU. Other component are:
    -MSI KT6V
-AMD Sempron 3000+ with Thermaltake Extreme Volcano 12(default clocks, temp about 40°C under load)
    -2XCORSAIR DDR 512MB 400MHZ CL2.5
    -Leadtek 6600GT 128Mb
    -Seagate Barracuda 7200.10 (80 Gt, 7200 RPM) ST380215A PATA
    -SB Live!
    -XP Pro 32-bit SP3
Everything works just fine. When I change video card to MSI X1950 Pro everything seems to be working until I try to launch any 3D application(game, 3DMark etc.) the screen goes black(no error message, no reboot). I have used many drivers, like Ati 8.7 or Omega. I have tested them and they work with that card in other configurations.
"Black screen" could be related to insufficient PSU but believe me, it's not the case with this one. That video card have always behaved like that with every motherboad that I have tried(ASRock 775Dual-VSTA/939Dual-SATA2 and couple of others) regardless what other components there are(PSU, memory etc.). Problem occurs only when using AGP 8X mode. If AGP is lowered to 4X problem disappears.
That's why I'm so obsessed with this AGP mode issue. I have tried clear CMOS but AGP mode stays greyed out(actually is "blued out") and cannot be changed. Other AGP options, like Fast Write have always been OFF.
If I remember correctly, with some older bios and Radeon 9000 Pro, I had an option to change AGP mode. So maybe one possibility is to flash it back to older bios.

  • USB Ports and AGP Video Card on same IRQ

I've got a tough one.  I have 6 USB ports.  Call them 1,2,3,4,5,6. Ports 1 and 2 work fine with my new USB 2.0 80GB External Harddrive.  This pair of ports 1 and 2 are direct into motherboard.
However system crashes when I plug USB 2.0 External Drive into ports 3,4,5,6. These are Dports with cables that plug into the MB.  One of these Dports has the four error lights which are all green.  Western Digital has cautioned against sharing this drive with other IRQs.  Says that the video card and the WD harddrive require dedicated IRQs...but I have no control of how W XP assigns them.
Ports #3-6 work fine with mouse,  scanner, and printer etc. However they fail when trying to use WD External Hardrive.
I also checked IRQ settings and IRQ 16 is used for a USB Port and for my MSI AGP video card.  I believe this conflict is the cause of the problem.
So help..how do I fix this dilemma?
I have Windows XP and see no way to change IRQs.
BIOS does not even show IRQ as a choice..only 1-15.  Also BIOS is latests version for my MSI 845G Max L MS-6580 mother Board.  USB drivers are all Intel.  Video Card Is MSI AGP MS-8878 G4Ti/MX 420 w TV out.  Bios and Drivers are current.
How can I run the USB 2.0 External Harddrive in Ports 3-6?

I did load new Intel INF Drivers and AGP drivers yesterday.
No luck USB Ports 3-6 still fail with External Hard Drive.
I'm not clear on how to turn back on AICP or ACIP.  BIOS?
Also not IRQs 16-23 are listed with active devices on the Device Manager
    16 has a USB Controller at 24c2
16 also has AGP video card
    17 has Audio '97
    17 also has Fast Eternet.
18 has USB Controller at 24c7
19 has USB Controller at 24c4
23 has PCI to USB Interface.
Port 3-6 do work fine with mouse, dig cam, Scanner, printer.  These ports only fail with External Harddrive plugged in.  Ports 1and2 work fine with external HD??
So question is how do I check on the IRQ ports using AIPC or APIC...or whatever the name is...thanks folks.

  • Airdisk - SLOW read speed, but FAST write speed with Leopard 10.5.1?

I've been complaining for a while about my random problems with reading files from airdisk. My solution has always been to relaunch finder and re-mount the airdisk when it slows down.
I just noticed the speed cut down to and when looking at the activity monitor, it's fluctuating up and down and never seems to go past 1.5 to 2 MB/s.
HOWEVER, what I did just notice is that my write speed is consistently 3-4 MB/s with no fluctuation at all. Interference is not an issue, as I'm on N-only mode and in 5GHZ.
Is there anything I can do aside from waiting until 10.5.2? This does this issue in every AEBSn firmware. Thanks.

I experience the same problem (slow read: 2,8 MB/s, fast write: 6,3 MB/s) with my airdisk over a LAN-connection with 10.5.2. I atteched the USB-drive directly to my iMac and then it's the other way around: fast write, slow read (although considerably higher and normal throughtputs so drive is OK).
Anyone having some suggestions? The airdisk is formatted as HFS+ (GUID) with journalling on, Airport firmware 7.3.1 and the most recent updates installed.
