MS-6390: Return Of The USB Problem!
Almost a year ago I posted a thread regarding a USB problem in which after a few hours runtime, the USB ports stop working. Having reinstalled Windows, I followed the original thread to fix the problem again but this time, it hasn't work. The old thread for reference is; https://forum-en.msi.com/index.php?topic=49727.0
but I shall try and include everything important here so it shouldn't be needed.
Firstly the nature of the problem;
Any new device plugged into them is not recognisied and Windows advises that it is the device that is malfunctioning.
Restarting the computer will eliminate the problem, however upon rebooting, the computer tends to get stuck at what may be the memory count. If left for 10 minutes, the memory amount comes up and the computer boots normally. This is circumvented by temporarily (one second) removing power to the power supply by pulling the plug or flicking the switch at the back.
[It may or may not be relevant that the HDD activity indicator is lit for approximately 30 seconds of this 10 minute period]
Upon switching the computer on again, the computer boots up normally and the USB ports continue to function for another variable period of time.
This problem occurs if there are no devices plugged into the USB, any single device (printer, gamepad, mobile phone) or any combination.
It should also be noted that if the computer crashes due to any of many unrelated reasons after this problem has arisen, and I use the reset button to make it reboot, the 10 minute reboot problem occurs again but appears differently on screen in that it actually says 'memory check' or words to that effect with a space where the normally RAM amount goes, a '+' and another empty space where the memory reserved for onboard graphics normally goes (i.e. memory check: + )
I've tried uninstalling the drivers and reinstalling those downloaded from VIAs website for my chipset.
My USB ports are set not to power down to save power in device manager.
The multi-card reader (plugged directly into the motherboard) also stops functioning when the USB ports go down - power light stays on, activity light stops flashing (occasionally power light turns off). Unplugging it from the motherboard does not resolve the issue.
I want to resolve this issue so the computer is trouble-free when I give it my mum to learn from.
Comp. specs in signature. Thanks in advance.
I don't know how to dig deeper... Soon this computer will only be using a single 80 gig HD, and I'll remove the fan controller (it'll be mums computer). I'll then be able to try just using sp1a.
This PSU I'm using is reviewed here with a several others. (the model number is the same, but the one tested doesn't appear to be dual rail - they actually state the number slightly incorrectly, but it's correct in the picture of the label they show.
I think it performed quite well, being one of only two that were able to keep producing (just) over 1 v at 100% load, whilst most others just plumetted. A significant but probably not damaging drop to 4.87v on the 5v rail and again 3.26 on the 3.3v rail all at 100% load (which you're never supposed to due to the PSU anyway). It got a recommended award since apparently it doesn't have many features but I don't think I'm in need of any features it lacks.
Furthermore - at the back it has a control for fan speed. Currently set on Auto, it maintains the same fan speeds (audiability) as on Low - thus I conclude it has headroom to push itself if necessary (in which case the fans would spin faster).
Apart from someone who said they're "cheapo", I havn't yet found any negative comments regarding Jeantech PSUs.

As of now I cannot use one of the USB port (the port that close to the card reader). I have tried to use every thing to connect to this port but it's not showing anything. I have tried to connect my iPhone with this port, it just charge the phone but Mac didn't saw it. So is there any other person who have the same issue like me? I switch to use Windows via Bootcamp and trie to use this port and it's work perfectly. So is it about the Mountain Lion issues?
I should also mention I am running Mountain Lion 10.8.1 on the 2012 MBP (where the headphones won't work)
and running 10.5.8 on the 2008 model where they DO work. -
Garageband opens now -- but USB problem
Applemeisters-- I just posted a note about how my Garageband won't open. Googled and found the problem. You must have the correct date operating on your computer or it won't work. I live in the Chicago burbs and, as a result of having power out for several days, the date on my computer system was off by that number of days. Corected that and Garageband is live again.
Now, about the USB problem. Please help. An Ion turntable that works fine with the regular stereo console, But when I plug it directly into my G4 tower with an OS 10.2.8 system and record lps into the audacity software the sound sounds miserable on the speakers while recording and miserable after I transfer the recording into a MP3. Is Ion supposed to be a plug and play for Apple or does it just work for PCs? What's a guy to do? Help. Thanks.
PaulThis is only a guess, because I've not got HK USB speakers: But maybe the master volume in GB is up too high. Take it right down and then turn up your speakers, see if that does it.

:? I'm just about finished installing ARCH and I have a curious
little problem. At boot I was getting this message after the
mounting file systems section:
" mount: mount point /proc/bus/usb does not exist ".
I didn't pay much attention, but when running hwd -s it
reported I had a usb module available - usb-uhci. Not
knowing any better I put it in the module section of rc.conf.
Now I'm also getting:
"Fatal: module usb-uhci not found"
after the modules loaded section at boot up. The system
works ok, sort-of. Anybody know how to fix the usb problem?
I did have a usb mouse, but I had to connect to a ps2 port to get
it to work. Oh well, I still love linux anyway. -Thanks - Larrylmellen wrote: Thanks Pajaro, I changed the usbdefvs to usbfs and the error messages are gone. My mouse still won't work in the usb port, but that might be a set up problem. Again --Thanks for the assistance!!

Plug it in and check the output of dmesg. If it's recognized, it's probably a typo in your X.org config file (I assume it doesn't work in X). -

[VIA Series] memory and usb problems
Hello...... I have the MSI PM8M-V motherboard, intel celeron 2.93 ghz processor and 256 meg kingston ram. I am upgrading about 50 pcs with this setup. On some, the system will not see any of the USB ports and on almost all of them, the system reports that I have 192 meg of ram instead of the 256. Is this a normal thing with the memory and has anyone else had the problem with the USB ports. Thanks
Quote from: Maesus on 20-December-05, 15:37:44
part of the RAM is taken by the video. That's why you only see 192MB instead of 256MB (64MB is taken by Video).
USB ports? make sure you enable them in the BIOS.
Make sure you have the Chipset Driver updated for the USB problem.
You might also check how you have the Front panel USB’s hooked up to the header on the Mobo. Make sure it is correct. -

I've got a Microstar MS-6585 mainboard... Pretty much **bleep**ed up, I consider throwing my pc mach 3 turbo out of the window...
If the system's locking this suggests a serious USB issue.
Firstly, if you can, try the player on another PC. Do you get the same problem?
If the PC and player are fine then I would save yourself lots of hassle and just get a known good PCI USB2 card i.e. Adaptec. Make sure you can get it somewhere you can return it, just in case it doesn't help. -
I bought iPad and I can not access, A message appears asking me account and password when i return to the person who I purchased it from him, he told me that he forgot the account and password
I want a solution to the problem, because in this way I will not benefit from the iPadThere is no solution. You have to provide the ID and password. There is no way around it. If the person you bought it from can't provide it, return it and get your money back.

A magazine's app on my iPad has stopped working. When I open the Newsstand folder and click on the app, the screen dims briefly, then returns to the Newsstand folder. The other app in my Newsstand folder (Wall Street Journal) opens without any problem, and this magazine's app opens just fine on my wife's iPad.
I have deleted the app and reinstalled it from the Apple store and that makes no difference. I have also done a hard reboot on my iPad with no result.
Any thoughts about what might be wrong?Hey everyone in Apple world!
I figured out how to fix the flashing yellow screen problem that I've been having on my MBP! Yessssss!!!
I found this super handy website with the golden answer: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1379
I followed the instructions on this page and here's what I did:
Resetting NVRAM / PRAM
Shut down your Mac.
Locate the following keys on the keyboard: Command (⌘), Option, P, and R. You will need to hold these keys down simultaneously in step 4.
Turn on the computer.
Press and hold the Command-Option-P-R keys before the gray screen appears.
Hold the keys down until the computer restarts and you hear the startup sound for the second time.
Release the keys.
I went through the 6 steps above twice, just to make sure I got rid of whatever stuff was holding up my bootup process. Since I did that, my MBP boots up just like normal. No flashing yellow screen anymore!!
(Note that I arrived at this solution when I first saw this page: http://support.apple.com/kb/TS2570?viewlocale=en_US)
Let me know if this works for you!

When I plug my iPhone or iPad directly into my lap top, using the USB cord, the devices don't even register with iTunes as being present. I am completely stumped. I believe this bagan with my last iTunes update. The last time I syced any device was Oct 23, 2013. During that time I bought two new apple products and the same problem, when I plug them in they do not even show up as being available to sync. Any ideas why this is happening?

I connected my sons Ipod Touch to my pc and it worked fine. Now, when I try to connect my iPad the following message comes up: One of the usb devices attached to this computer has malfunctioned, and Windows does not recognize it. For assistance in solving this problem, click this message.
I checked the cable. It surely is not the cable. If I connect the iPod again it works fine. If I use the same cable with my pc and ipad at work or my other son’s laptop, it is working perfectly. It is only on my laptop where the iPod was connected. Something tells me it got something to do with the drivers that went corrupt or something when I connected the iPod.
I searched the internet and I see a lot of people gets this message. Still no solved answers yet. Is there a place where I can download the drivers again or any other suggestions?
Windows 7 and iPad 2
Kind regards,I was hoping it would be something like a USB device conflict, but now the shuffle is the only thing connected...
This article was one of the ones you linked to above in your initial post
http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1369
Under Part 9. Verify that USB drivers are installed, did you try the steps in If only "Unknown Device" appears? That appears to be your situation.
Also, you said that the shuffle initially worked well enough to do a sync, then it had the same problem again. If you can get it to work again initially, before doing anything else, try the following. Select the shuffle in the iTunes sidebar, under DEVICES. Over to the right, go to the Summary tab. By default, the checkbox for Enable disk use should be unchecked. If so, check it and Apply the change. See if that makes any difference.
(If Enable disk use was already checked, try unchecking it and Apply the change. Basically, set it the "other way" and see if there is any improvement.)
NOTE: When disk use is enabled, you have to eject the iPod in iTunes before disconnecting it physically.
If the disk use change makes a difference, that may provide a clue about the actual cause. -
