MS-6533 Intel P4 Motherboard

Hi Guys
I need some help with information on the MS-6533 Intel P4 motherboard that is installed in my son's Medion Brand Computer.
Ok, I want to upgrade the graphics card for the computer but I'm not sure if the board supports 3.3v or 1.5v cards graphics cards.  The card I'm thinking of buying is the ATI RADEON 9550 256DDR AGP which I think is an AGP v3.0 card and supports 8x/4x @ 0.8v (AGP 3.0) or 4x @ 1.5v (and 3.3v is not supported), so I will give you all of the information that I can and hope that you can help me out here?
Board details:  The computer brand is MEDION
MS-6533 v1.0 (as shown on the board underneath the AGP slot)
BIOS Version:  MSI-6533M7 v1.17 08/06/02 11:06:00 MEDIONPC (as shown on POST screen)
When I ran CPU-Z v1.30, the following info is shown:
Mainboard and chipset:
Motherboard manufacturer: MICRO-STAR INTERNATIONAL CO., LTD
Motherboard model: MS-6533
BIOS vendor: Award Software International, Inc.
BIOS revision: 6.00 PG
BIOS release date: 08/06/2002
Chipset: SiS 645 rev. 02
Southbridge: SiS ID0008 rev. 00
Sensor chip: Winbond W83697HF
Graphic Interface: AGP
AGP Status: enabled, rev. 2.0
AGP Data Transfer Rate: 4x
AGP Max Rate: 4x
AGP Side Band Addressing: supported, enabled
AGP Aperture Size: 64 MBytes
Now it states that the AGP Rev is Rev.2.0, does that mean that it supports only 3.3v or does revision 2.0 support graphics cards which need to have 0.8v or 1.5v support?
I have looked around the MSI website and found two boards with the same part number but have letters after the numbers.  The first board is the MS-6533G-040 and the 'spec' on this board states that it supports AGP 4x (1.5v only).
The other board is the MS-6533E-120 but this board just states one AGP 4x slot.
I'd really appreciate some help here and I hope that I can install the RADEON 9550 AGP card on the board he has.
If this were not possible, can we stiil buy a 3.3v graphics cards with 3.3v support for ths MS-6533 board?

Hi Wonkanoby
Many thanks for replying to to post regard the MS-6533 Intel P4 Motherboard.
I guess that the answer to my question about using the ATI RADEON 9550 256DDR AGP on my son's MS-6533 mainboard is "yes" I'd appreciate it if you could give me some more information about the board and it's graphics card voltage please?
Q:  I know the MS-6533 AGP Data Transfer Rate is 4x and that if I install the 9550 which supports up to AGP 8x, it would only perform at AGP 4x on the MS-6533, but at what voltage (1.5v)?
Q:  I don't really understand your second comment:
"as it's new don't stick older 3.3v AGP x2 cards in it".  Are you saying that AGP x2 cards support 3.3v only and that the MS-6533 supports AGP 4x at 0.8v and 1.5v only?  Could you please explain what you mean?
Q:  Also, my own MS-6758 875P Neo mainboard supports 8x/4x at 0.8v (AGP 3.0) or 4x at 1.5v (and 3.3v is not supported), but what voltages, and at what speeds, does the MS-6533 support?

  • Solaris 8 x86, intel 810E motherboard

    hi,
does anyone know where i can find a driver for the intel 810E
motherboard (w/ built in AGP video)? this chipset is fairly
new (4-5 months), but it seems like it's going to replace all
    of the midrange 440BX hardware.
all of the new midrange (US $1K-2K) compaq and dell systems use
this board, so SOMEBODY has to have a solaris x86 driver for it.
the new chipset (intel 82810) is very integrated, of course, and
the video section is evidently based around the i740 chipset.
any ideas? 'till then i'm stuck in 640x480 limbo. i'd put a HCL-
approved card in for now but for the fact that my new box (compaq
deskpro EN SFF [small form factor] 600Mhz P3) doesn't want to
disregard the built in video in favor an installed Matrox board.
    thanks

  • Intel D865PERL Motherboard

    Hello all,
I have installed Windows 7 on a P4, 3.2 GHz, machine with an Intel D865PERL motherboard.  Intel does not provide Win7 drivers for this chipset.  The install went fine but there is an irritating little quirk at boot.  The machine goes through POST and then switches to the "Starting Windows" screen where it proceeds to hang.  I power down, and enter the BIOS.  I exit the BIOS and then it boots.  I have tweaked just about every setting in the BIOS and that has no effect.   After the machine is in the powered off state for about 30 minutes, it returns to its hang on boot behavior.
There is an event log in the BIOS that shows a "keyboard not found"  error at every boot attempt (whether successful or not)  I have a USB keyboard on the system and even tried switching with a brand new keyboard....no effect.
I am pretty sure is has to do with the chipset drivers.  Currently it has Microsofts drivers loaded for the motherboard and Device Manager shows everybody is a happy camper...
Any insights would be greatly appreciated.  Thanks All!
    Steve

I'm not an IT expert.  But I am still using the two P4 computers that I built back in 2004-2005.     As of Win7 Service Pack 1, Win7 will run just fine on an Intel D865PERL and D865PERLL.   There are now Win7 drivers for
the sound, but if you want high fidelity or better sound for games, you should get a sound card that has full features under Win7.
With an upgraded video card, expect Aero to run but you'll get Win7 Exp scores in the low 3s, like 3.2 or so, and video will naturally be the lowest score.     I have 4GB RAM on each board.  The CPUs I have run Win7 with are:
3.2GHz 800MHz Northwood,  3.0GHz 800 FSB Northwood,  2.6GHz 800FSB Northwood, and  Prescott 2.9GHz Celeron D (socket 478, 500 MHz FSB).    The Celeron gets marginally faster Win7 Exp scores for processor speed.
The hyperthreading with the full P4s helps with throughput, but ALL of these P4-era CPUs have bottlenecks.  During certain tasks, if you watch the CPU usage, they are running at 80% - 100% usage.  Sometimes they hit the 100% usage and pause the whole
system, but don't crash.  They just finish what they're doing and then take off again, much like a car engine bouncing off the rev limiter.
You can tell that Win7 was written for dual-core CPUs or better.  On a P4 or a P4-based Celeron, you'll see it load up the CPU to 85%-100% and then take a pause, like it expected to have another core there to hand stuff off to, but there ain't one,
    LoL.
The Win7 OS taxes the CPU and graphics more than WinXP did, but the drivers seem better written and overall, these machines run far smoother and less "notchy" than they did on WinXP.    Except for that aforementioned hits-the-rev-limiter 100%
usage bottleneck issue, I like them better as Win7 machines than as patched and patched and cobbled and pieced and updated WinXP machines.     I haven't bothered to try to uninstall features or cut background programs or in any way optimize
these systems.   I set them up as Win7 machines to teach senior citizens and kids how to type and to use a computer, and they run Win7 and Office 2007/2010 and burn DVDs and do all that without problems.
Hard disks:   I've Googled that and found several posts that say up to 1TB is recognized without partitioning.   With WinXP Media Edition, the OS was apparently  the limitation b/c I had a 500GB HD and WinXP only saw it as a 200-or-300-something.
SATA3 or SATA2 is backward compatible with SATA1.  It just slows down to the older slower standard.  I'm not sure what will happen if you try to use an SDD or a new advanced-format HDD that uses the 4k sectors and you have to run a translator or
at least the HD does, on an older PC.   Be careful what kind of HD you buy, because the new drives on store shelves are soon going to be all of the advanced format type.
You'll have to run Win7 32bit on these old computers.   3GB or 4GB RAM as matched pairs of PC-3200  DDR400 running in dual channel mode is the way to go.   Even though 32bit can't use all 4GB, it can use 3.4GB or something, and having
matched sticks in dual channel will aid efficiency some.   With people dumping these older PCs, it's not as expensive as it used to be to get 1GB ddr400 modules, and 512K ones go for peanuts.    These boards can run memory bus at any
of PC2100, 2700, or 3200, independent of the CPU's FSB, but why run old slow 2100 or 2700 RAM and bottleneck your old system even more?
I haven't tried to get RAID to work.  I've never owned two matching hard drives, haha.  So, you're on your own there.    Regardless of whether or not Intel supports these boards, you can run Win7 32 bit on them, if you have enough
RAM and a good fast video card.
BIOS:   One board has P19 and the other P21.  Update your BIOS to one of the later ones.  Some of these boards are having probs with failing capacitors, so I bought a used PERLL to replace my dead board.  It came with either P08
or P09 BIOS (I forget) and I put the 3.0GHz 800FSB Northwood on it.   It booted up and ID'd the CPU fine, but wouldn't save CMOS settings and that problem persisted even after I'd done a battery pull, CMOS jumper reset, left the board sit a day with
no battery, installed a brand new battery, etc.     I downloaded BIOS P21, used the executable flash version that INTEL made for WinXP, and the BIOS successfully flashed to P21, from within Win7,
for you people who live dangerously.    It had some kind of reboot glitch and I think I had to do a hard shutdown and then reboot it before the board would boot into Windows.   It has P21 now, and will save all CMOS settings, and runs
great.       All of my D865PERL-series boards are Prescott-ready.  I have one green board, and two black D856PERLL boards that have firewire and gigabit LAN and USB2.    All the built-in stuff works in Win7.
Sound is not the same quality as WinXP's, but maybe there's a driver fix for that.
I am running 32bit Win7 Home Premium.    I have also tried Win7 Pro and Win7 Ultimate and they will also install.
    Specs:
    D685PERL (green)  and D865PERLL
    Northwood 800Mhz FSB CPUs (3.2, 3.0, 2.6 GHz)
    4GB RAM as 4 matched Crucial PC3200  DDR400 sticks running dual channel (2x1GB + 2x512MB pc3200 ddr400 also works)
    ZOTAC AGP GeForce 6200A,  512MB  64bit DDR2
    Linksys WMP54G wireless and/or  D-Link DFE-530TX+ 10/100 ethernet
on the green D865PERL:   2-port firewire PCI card and 4-port Belkin USB2 card (not needed on the D865PERLL boards)
various WD and Seagate SATA and PATA HDs, none of which are "advanced format" (all are still the 512 byte sectors) but the newest drive is a Seagate 160GB SATA3  ST3160316AS 7200RPM  8MB cache.  So, there's a SATA3 success story for you.
old PCI video:  I have a PNY Verto nvidia PCI card, 32MB, and I think it's a GeForce2 MX 400 AGP 4x.  I'm not going to go look it up.  Anyway, Win7 couldn't find a driver and the  PNY site is apparently no longer offering any support
for it because it's too old.   I had the original install disk, and I installed the WinXP driver for it, and that works in Win7.   (I had that card lying around so I decided to try it just for curiosity.)  So, even "unsupported" hardware
may work in 7, but you may have to do some research and gruntwork to drag old hardware into the current OS(s).
I bought a secondhand HP 8200 Elite i5-2500 PC for my personal machine.   I was pretty content with my old P4s until I got the i5 PC, but dealing with failed capacitors, paying $30 for only 2GB RAM, uncertainty about how the new SSDs and advanced-format
HDs would work with the older controllers and BIOSs, and getting into the stage where I was having to swap parts around and deal w/ failing HDs, etc.   plus that "rev limiter" issue made me want something newer.     I'll do my
next new build sometime in 2Q13 after I see what new designs Intel is rumored to be rolling out.     I bought my SFF HP 8200 for only $275 w/ the i5-2500, just 2GB as 1 stick RAM, and only an 8oGB HD (that can be redeployed to one of the
    P4s , lol).    BUT, it's under $40 to upgrade to a full
8GB of Crucial RAM for it, and I already have a 265GB SSD and a 500 GB SATA3 HD to go in there.  So for that low of a price, why would you not move to the i5 second generation Sandy Bridge and turn the P4s
into Linux boxes or something.     Linux is what I am going to do with my D875 motherboard and its 4GB RAM.   Win7 runs pretty well, but the P4s are finally start to show their age, even to us Office-workers who do not game.
With XP, you don't notice it so much.
I even have a MSI BX Master 440BX slot 1 P3 board with a 1GHz socket 370 P3 133MHz FSB CPU in an Abit SlotKet, and a full 1GB of RAM, and Win7 32bit will install on it.  But it's really an XP machine, teehee.
eta:    I have all IDE CD and DVDRW drives on these machines.   And have used a mix of SATA and IDE hard drives at the same time, or 2 SATA HDs and two IDE HDs and 3-4 IDE CD/DVD RWs with a Promist ATA 100 PCI card.  These boards
are fussy about PCI cards and what has to share an interrupt with what, but they run a mix of drive types with no problem if you have a large enough power supply.    Too small of a power supply is going to cause you probs, too.   I
have 350W and 450W power supplies from PC  Power and Cooling (back when PCPC was still somebody) and one 450W Antec that has blue LED lights in it.      If you're trying to load up with RAM and drives and you have a 200 or 250W
power supply, you need a larger power supply.

  • Can my Intel DP965LT motherboard Core2 Duo Processor support / intsall for Mac OX S 10.6 snow leopard?

Hi, I have intel DP965LT Motherboard, Core2 duo processor with Nvidia Geforce 9600 graphic card now. I would like to install Mac OS X Snow Leopard v10.6. Can my intel spec support Mac OS X Snow Leopard / Lion version?
    Please guide me, thanks !

We can't advise how to install OS X onto a Windows PC.
It's against the EULA to install OS X onto anything but a Apple Macintosh computer.
It is possible and there are websites dedicated to teaching you how, but it's a real pain and you have to trust unknown sources for your software to do so.
Then there is the probem of third party software, as OS X evolves and changes, developers attempt to keep up and drop older versions of their software.
Also Apple drops support for older OS X versions and only provides updates via AppleID on newer ones, so your now getting your security fixes from unknown sources instead of from Apple directly.
So it's a short term hobby I'd say you would have another year, then your seriously left behind unless you buy a real Mac and with OS X installed.
If your running Windows XP, Windows 7 is a nice piece of work and Windows 8 Pro can be downgraded to Windows 7.
With Windows you get support for a decade, so Windows 7 will get support until 2020.
Apple's OS X changes every year or two, so your constantly changing your machine to keep up, so you won't find any peace running OS X on a PC.
    Good Luck

Can I use 4.1 inspire speakers with Intel 946GZIS motherboard? I mean do I need to install a separate Sound Card or Motherboard will take care of all the speakers?Help is appriciated.cheersvyenky

    vyenky,
The Intel 946GZIS motherboard should have a 5.1 onboard audio system and it should be able to support a 4.1 speaker system but it will be best for you to confirm the the motherboard onboard audio capability with the motherboard manufacturer.

  • Graphics card for intel DG965RY motherboard

    Hi All,
I would like to purchase a graphics card for my Intel DG965RY motherboard.
What GPU/graphics card is compatible for Intel DG965RY MB?
    Please help.
    Thanks

    Hello,
this forum is dedicated to MSI Retail products only. That is why we do generally not allow topics that deal with mainboards of other manufacturers. Nobody here can give you much advice on compatibility questions regarding a specific Intel Board anyway.
The best thing for you to do is to look for help in a forum for Intel products or in a general hardware forum. Or perhaps you can contact Intel directly whether or not there are any known compatibility problems with certain video cards.
Regarding MSI video cards, you can browse through the whole menu of models on this site:

  • Intel Based Motherboards for Power PC G5

Now that Apple has launched BootCamp, the program which allows an intel-based mac to run Windows, question is to those of us who bought a G5 last year will there be a motherboard upgrade to switch us over to the intel based machines once the desktop's are switched over? Or will we have to buy a whole new tower?

You are absolutely right. When I first got my Virtual PC, it got infected right away. Luckily it doesn't see the other side of the isle so none of my mac stuff was touched. I basically just deleted that Virtual PC and started over.
Of course I always wonder why people on the PC side of things put up with such nonsense. If you were truly troubled by all the viruses and trojan horses and worms you would think or actually demand that your computer company would fix it, instead you just take because you have to??? What you should do is stop buying software and machines that are prone to those problems forcing software companies to write for the other machine.
    I wonder???

  • Realtek NIC cannot attach in Solaris 10 with Intel D945GCPE motherboard

Hope someone can help. I've seen references online to people having installed Solaris 10 on this board.
I can't get the NIC to work on on Solaris 10. I downloaded the drivers from Realtek's site. Ran the install script which said the drivers were installed but failed to attach.
prtconf doesn't show the drivers. I did a reconfigure reboot ( touch /reconfigure; reboot) and it didn't work so I get an error if I try and plumb the interface.
I created a /etc/hostname.rtls0 file and updated /etc/inet/hosts and /etc/inet/netmasks though I don't think that means anything at this point.
There's no setting to disable plug and play, just an acpi option to change from type 2 or 3 I believe.
I tried setting the acpi boot env variable using
    eeprom acpi-user-options=0x2
but that just made the hard drive unreadable.
I tried setting pcplusmp:apic_forceload = -1 in /etc/system and that caused the system to hang.
From looking around online I'm wondering if the realtek drivers are 32bit? Can anyone confirm this?
If true, that might be causing the problems with the driver install since Solaris is installed as 64bit.
I'm going to try and build the drivers myself from the sources I found at http://homepage2.nifty.com/mrym3/taiyodo/eng/. Hopefully that's the only problem.
If anyone has any experience with this board please let me know.
Also, when Solaris hangs when booting up, CTRL-ALT-DEL doesn't reboot the system. I'm connected via IPKVM and can't do a hard reboot. Is there any other way to reboot the system when it hangs? CTRL-C don't do anything either.

    Darren_Dunham wrote:
Do you see the driver files? Often something like '/kernel/drv/xxx'. 32bit drivers will be in drv/xxx, 64bit drivers will be in drv/amd64/xxx.
If there's no corresponding driver in the amd64 directory, it's not 64 bit. But since you're getting messages from the driver at all, I doubt that's the issue.
    Darren, thanks for responding.
I haven't been able to reboot yet to check. I'm just going by another forum posting I read that said the Realtek drivers were 32bit. Stupid question, but amd64 is just an old convention from when Sun first started x86-64 servers with Opterons, and all 64 bit drivers go in that directory even if the underlying processor is Intel right?
This tech note http://access1.sun.com/technotes/01146.html led me to believe it was the 32bit driver on 64bit OS that was the problem since the install script claimed to install everything fine and I remember checking at least the /kernel/drv directory. At the time, I didn't think to check adm64, actually, I didn't even notice it installed in 64bit mode.
    Darren_Dunham wrote:
Ouch. You might be able to boot the kernel debugger and force it to reboot. I haven't done that on an x86 system, but here are some instructions:
    http://www.sun.drydog.com/faq/7.html
So <F1>-<A> should give you a key to pull up the debugger and reboot.
DarrenAh, F1-A, that's the x86 equivalent to Stop-A. That link was very helpful, unfortunately F1-A does nothing. I'm stuck on "Use is subject to license terms" with a blinking underscore. I tried setting up a keyboard macro in the kvm client for F1-A too and that didn't work either. Looks like I need to add boot-file=kadb into /boot/solaris/bootenv.rc to enable the debugger. ctrl-break, shift-break, ctrl-shift-break, ctrl-\, ctrl-alt-break, ctrl-a, ctrl-q, ctrl-s, ctrl-] as well as slamming both hands repeatedly on the keyboard while screaming profanities also failed to reboot the system. The person I was working with at the data center left for the day, I need to see if I can find someone else to reboot this.
One thing I read on that link you provided, it said using reboot -- -r is bad on x86 systems. Do you know if that might be what caused the problems and not the eeprom or /etc/system settings? When I get into failsafe mode, do I need to make any changes to /boot/solaris/bootenv.rc to undo the reboot -- -r command? I didn't get the errors the FAQ said I'd be getting if I used that option so I think everything might be ok.

Make sure you have a 3-wire fan connected.
You may also need to increase the fan divisors.
    See doc/fan-divisors for more information.
anyway i managed to control my system fan to monitor temp1 (motherboard temp) running:
    echo "180" > /sys/class/hwmon/hwmon2/device/pwm1
but i need to run it as root and pass "yes" to pwmconfig first to activate manual control
so i need a bash script to run this  automatically on startup,i found this one and modified it but i need help to get pwmconfig run with "yes" before start my if...else control to launch "echo..." once temp1 reach 50 C°
    this is original:
    #!/bin/sh
    ### Temperature guard
    ### Auto Shutdown if Temperature is over threshold

    PATH=/bin:/usr/bin:/sbin:/usr/sbin

echo "Temperature Guard started. Threshold temperature is $THRESHOLD °C"

    solved
    1)
    install with pacman:
    lm_sensors
    yaourt
    sudo
    nawk
refer to the wiki of archlinux to install and configure this packages
    2)
save this script and  add it to startup and shutdown of kde settings (i assume you are using kde,and i suggest you to install it)
    (example sudo path/to/yourscript.sh)
    #!/bin/sh
    ### controllo ventolina
    ### controlla in automatico la velocita' della ventolina data la temperatura
    SENSORS=/usr/bin/sensors
    PATH=/bin:/usr/bin:/sbin:/usr/sbin
    test -x $SENSORS || exit 0
    sudo sh -c "echo 1 > /sys/class/hwmon/hwmon2/device/pwm1_enable"
    while [ 1 ]
    do
    ## prende la temperatura da lm-sensors
    t1=`$SENSORS | nawk '/temp1/ {print substr($2,2,2)}'`
    if [ $t1 -gt "49" ];
    then
    echo "180" > /sys/class/hwmon/hwmon2/device/pwm1
echo "temperatura $t1 gradi \n" ##comment this lines if you don't want to run in console
    sleep 20
    elif [ $t1 -gt "47" ];
    then
    echo "170" > /sys/class/hwmon/hwmon2/device/pwm1
    sleep 20
    echo "temperatura $t1 gradi \n"
    elif [ $t1 -gt "45" ];
    then
    echo "157" > /sys/class/hwmon/hwmon2/device/pwm1
    sleep 20
    echo "temperatura $t1 gradi \n"

I know the products are fairly new, but I wondered if anyone has tried Solaris 10 against the Core i5-750 and/or the DP55WB (or SB) motherboard yet?
Web search is not turning up anything relevant.

i would buy the DP55WB mobo but without compatibility test i ll have to wait. Can someone pls post information on the topic?
    regards

  • Intel d845gvsr motherboard fails on 2.6.32

after upgrading to latest (and greatest), video goes wierd on boot when udev notification appears. xfce works but messsage log has a tons on load-modules.sh errors, so i did a fresh install but same issues. arch is unusable at this time. can anyone shed some light on this...
ps: worked without a problem for over a year with many upgrades...
pps: archppc still works on my mac g3 with most current archppc code (platform i am using to write this)...
    [UPDATE]
using information on uvesafb, i have video back. that said, it goes through a number of attempts (and failures) to set the video mode. any other info on uvesafb (and/or v86d)?

  • [solved] Intel D945GCLF2 Atom 330 motherboard + Xorg = crash on start

So today I went to the computer store and bought an Intel D945GCLF2 motherboard.  I'm installing Arch on it but I'm stuck on getting Xorg to start.  It uses the 945 series Intel integrated graphics so I installed xf86-video-intel.  However, when I run "startx", it starts and displays twm, but the keyboard and mouse don't respond to input.  But interestingly enough, I can still Alt-F1 (for example) out of console 7 and ^C to kill Xorg.  So the system doesn't hardware lock, it's something to do with the drivers or Xorg.
I've been Googling this endlessly tonight and haven't found a solution yet.  I've messed around with BIOS settings and xorg.conf flags ... nothing.  Is there anything I should try at this point or should I file a bug report?
edit - it hardware locks on occassion too (no numlock light toggle on key press)

I'm actually putting the computer in my car
    http://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?id=60661
But yeah, I got everything working fine on it.  Networking, usb, video, audio, etc. all worked flawlessly without any work.  I mean, it's all Intel-based stuff.  The computer chugs right along too.  Pretty damn powerful for what it is.  I'm seriously considering buying a few more of these for a fileserver, mpd server for the house ...   They're super cheap!

  • Successful T61P Nvidia GPU motherboard swap to T61 Intel GPU

    Hi all,
Just finished my first successful T61 Intel GPU motherboard conversion from a failed T61P with the dreaded "fatal" Nvidia GPU disease.  At a very reasonable price, forum contributor Tuus furnished me with a good used T61 Merom/Intel board with a Middleton bios, which allows for faster Penryn CPU's (up to T9500) and SATA2 speeds on a Merom/Intel motherboard.  I used the on-line Lenovo training videos and the Lenovo system maintenance manuals as a guide, and all went quite well.  Thanks to all previous forum posters for providing me with an incredible knowledgebase of Thinkpad laptop system problems and solutions, and in particular TuuS for sharing his upgrade recommendations and repair experience.
    T61P- 15.4 WSXGA, Intel 965 GPU, 4GB mem, T9300 CPU, 100gbx7200 rpm HD

Happy to hear that the planar swap went well.
    Enjoy your reborn T61!
    Cheers,
    George

  • Solaris 8 on Intel 845

Has anyone installed solaris 8 on to an Intel 845 motherboard ?
    :-)

No way. Different CPU architecture, you must
recompile the applications from source to intel
    binary code.
(Exception: shell scripts and other interpreted
languages, including byte code interpreters ("java"),
run on different solaris architectures without
    recompiling)
