MS-6547E Ver.1, 654E Max-c, MS6547 Ver.1, 645 Ultra

I have a Motherboard that had a red sticker on it listing 645E Max-C and MS-6547E Ver.1
I peeled it off and underneath it has 645 Ultra and MS6547 Ver.1
The BIOS lists MS-6547SMS 1.6 in the Startup Screen.
When I run "MSIHQ USB Bootable Tool and BIOS Helper" It lists the Board as 6558 and the BIOS as something totally different from what I've ever seen as a bios.
I figured that I could probably download the MS-6547 1.9 BIOS (The most updated version) and easily Flash the BIOS, but that has not been the case.  Every time I get to AMIFL847 and try to flash it, the message tells me that the new BIOS file is not a BIOS file, and is unknown.  I've downloaded it at least 3 times now (thinking it was a corrupt download) each time is the same result.
I've tried to use Live Update 5 which is supposed to work with this board, and it gives me a message that I have the latest BIOS, or when I point to the BIOS file MS6547.190, it tells me that this is anything BUT a BIOS file.
I even have been getting BSoD (Blue Screens of Death) in which the codes are telling me the problem lies with a MSILiveUpdate5 file dealing with the BIOS.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Do you really need to update BIOS? If you do, don't use LiveUpdate!
There are a few to choose from: http://www.msi.com/service/search/?kw=6547&type=product
You should also be warned, that the motherboard may have been specially built to suit for example Dell or HP, or another major computer system builder. If so you do not use data and BIOS:es from here, but from that manufacturer.
With that warning in mind, this would be the best bet, I believe:

  • My computer shuts down but the restart feature will not work. It just hangs.

    Hello
    I have a MS6547 version 1 (645 Ultra Motherboard)
The problem I am having is that my computer will not restart. If I press the power off button in windows it will shut down but the restart windows function will not work it just hangs at (Windows is shutting down)
I zero'd my hard drive and installed a fresh copy of windows but the restart feature still doesn't work. Even when I was in the middle of installing windows when the computer says it will reboot in 15 second that hangs on restarting computer as well/
    Hope someone can help
    My spec is

    2.2gb Pentium CPU
    256ddr2100 RAM
    ATI Radion Graphics Card
    60gb Hard Drive
    LG CDRW
    Please Help.

    Hello and welcome!
It sounds like it has a hard ware reason. I suggest you take the motherboard out, to see that there are no stand-offs/spacers/distanser left unused creating a short.
Also, remember to have as little hardware as possible when you install Windows. No extra PCI-cards, USB-devices and such.
If the system has worked well earlier, above still rules, but here are some many other reasons for the described symtoms:

  • I think I was cheated on the 645E Max-C

I was hoping someone could answer a question.
I just purchased a 645E Max-c (well thats what the box and all said).  But when I inspected it further the motherboard had been restickered with the 645E Max-C sticker being placed over the actual board serial (which was a 645 ultra.
The only real difference between the two boards appears to be the chipsets.  One of which (Northern) I can't check because it is under the heat sink.  But should I assume that this chipset should have 645DX on it as opposed to the 645 that is installed in the ultra?
Secondly, on the second chipset (Southern), should it be marked as 961B and not the 961 as is in the ultra?
Could someone please advise me on this, so i can crack the shits with the supplier if he is wrong.
    Regards

The same thing shows up if I use live update for the bios, MS-6547.
However, Sandra shows the chipset as 645dx and the bios shows ata133, which I don't believe was available with the 645 chipset.
from the looks of it, the max-c was a bit of a frankenstien board which has already been moved into the "archive" section in MSI's products.

  • Anyone using 845G MAX ?

I was thinking about trying one out for my second rig. I would be adding a video card (probably my 8500).
I was wondering about Overclockability and bios options.
I have a 645E Max-C now on my main rig and am happy with it, but feel like trying something new.

Actually the reason why your OC isnt seen by XP
is because maybe you are using bios ver 1.2 wich killed the OC capability . it works in bios but not windows
    I have the 845G maxL with a p4 1.6A @ 2.4Ghz @1.5V
    and I am running samsumg 512ddr 333 @ 400
the machine is killer !! really fast and rock soild !
Nothing like having a good intel chip with a good intel chipset.. Great Combo !  the only down side is for me
the DDR333 switch is nowhere to be found .
but since I was able to run my mem at ddr400
I wont complain to much hehehheh
oh yah and you dont have to worry bout doin the
damn wire mod for more voltage core either
as i was able to select all the way to 1.85
really a nice board ! ,,, one thing, if you get it make you you update to bios ver 1.3 and get the usb drivers using
liveupdate2 .... other then that, this is a KICK ASS product !
much better then the Crappy 645 ultra that refuses to boot anymore..

  • Max Hard Drive size for Ultra 10s

    Hi,
I'm kinda new to sun and I have a ultra 10s with a 9 Gig factory installed HD.
I was wondering what the maximum sized IDE hard drive that can be installed. I would like to mirror the system as well. I've seen another post about this but the max size was a 27 Gig drive and didn't explain how to mirror. I have Solaris 8 1/01 meda kit does that include the required software to mirror the drives. I think it's called Raid Manager?
    Many thanks

I'm not sure what the max drive size supported on an Ultra-10, but most
new Sun products are shipping with 40 GByte EIDE drives and use the
same chipset. Caveat emptor: Solaris <7 may or may not support EIDE
larger than 8GBytes, but since you are on Solaris 8 you should be ok.
For SCSI drives (requires a PCI SCSI HBA for the Ultra-10) the size can
be quite large. The most common large size SCSI drives today is 180
GBytes, but SCSI is designed to scale much larger.
You don't want RAIDManager for mirroring. Look for Solstice DiskSuite (SDS)
in your media distribution. If I'm not mistaken, it is cleverly hidden in
the "EA" directory on CD 2of2 in the media kit. Also, look for docs on
mirroring root using SDS on http://docs.sun.com

  • DON'T USE SiS ide driver, it sucks

Using this driver causes my system to hang (the mouse pauses and would not move) for about 1 sec every time there's heavy disk activity, very annoying. This applies to the latest Sis IDE driver on their website and the same is true for their earlier driver
Also using Sandra benchmark the WinXP IDE driver outperforms the one by SiS

My "mouse hesitation" went away after I updated to the latest BIOS ver 3.2 which supports AGP fast write and replace my AGP with a better AGP video card which supports FW.
Now I don;t know if the BIOS fixes it or putting in a new AGP card does but I haven't seen the 1-second mouse hesitation anymore
Also the new BIOS fixes a screen corruption problem which I previously had with the better AGP card

There is two way's to fix this:
      a) If you can get Bios Ver 1.7a, made by one of the user's you will rectify this problem, I had this ver but unfortunately I had to format my hard drive and I lost it all.
      b) Use Ver 1.5, this version seem to work best for everyone.

  • 645 Ultra OR 645EMax?

I have purchased and installed a motherboard from MSI.
Unfortunately it has a problem - it intermittently will not pass beyond the 3rd stage of the LED warnings ( Memory Detection Test ).  I have changed the RAM and it is fine.
I am confused as to its identity, since on the mother board it has various markings:
    645 Ultra
MS- 645EMax  ( however the 645EMax is stuck onto the motherboard.
    N 1996
    D33008
Bar code on right hand side says - 2620023509
    The BIOs rom has the following marks:  AMI BIOS - 686 - 1999 - BK26 - 4537
It also has an orange MSI-DDR chip near the processor and a SiS 961 chip to the south ( PM01014 - 0214IA )
CAN YOU TELL FROM THIS WHAT MY BOARD IS PLEASE.
The only place I can find a reference to a problem with booting is in BIOS Ver. 1.5 of the 545Ultra - where there is a fix for "Fixed after resume from S3, power button cannot work."
I have applied this but it still has problems.  Can you help please??

    Sounds like my board:
    ms-6547 v1.0... 645dx max c
    333 mhz DDR
    133 ATA
I know from previous posts that there is alot of
confusion about the difference between thr
    Ultra and MaxC...the MaxC is a souped-up
ultra and has the same markings except the
    sticker that says Max.

Any idea why the faster settings won't work?
Also I have installed Fuzzy Logic 4. When trying to manipulate any of the overclock
settings, the system locks and I can't reboot until I unplug the system. Any idea why Fuzzy Logic freezes the sysem?

I suggest you buy name brand harddrives such as Western Digital or Maxtor. These come with a self diagnogstic program. and are both a quality drive. Most drives will give you ample warning, before they give up the ghost, and with a CDRW and an program Like Roxio or Nero you can copy any info to CD with the push of a few buttons. There are even programs out there that let you continue from disk to disk without  even breaking up the files to fit. Lastly Invest $12 in a good cd storage bag and keep all your software CDs in that. That way even if a Harddrive crashes, you have the data to reload another one. Investing in a good anti virus /firewall program is another must. But backing up your important data that can't be easily replaced is still #1 priorty.  Just some suggestions for you to consider. One other thing to consider, Harddrive cooling. It only costs around $20 and really helps your harddrive Just my 2cents BIGDADDY51 CT.USAEdit; you could also consider Bluetooth ultra2c board and use your old box as a backup by transferring all info via Bluetooth.
