MS-6593 KT266 Pro2-U Higher Multipliers = ~700mhz :censored:

I have a KT266 Pro2-U board and a ThoroughbredB XP1800. I want to be able to up the multiplier on this XP to 15. I have the latest official bios for the board and there is a 15x setting in it, however the setting makes the cpu function at 700mhz. I have already unlocked the CPU by bridging the L3 #5 bridge. What else do I have to do to use the higher multiplier? This thing runs at 47 deg under load at 139mhz fsb, I think I can go for the full 15x139 and be stable and cold.

  • Where are the high multipliers? K7N420

    Hello everyone,
It's been a long time since I posted here.  Mainly because it's been a long time since I screwed around with my old MSI K7N420.  Well, I had upgraded the 1 ghz Duron that was in it to a 1700+ but the damn thing went belly up, the cpu that is.  For no reason it just decided one day when my boy turned it on to not turn on.  Diagnosis, one dead Athlon XP 1700+ tbred B.
So I decided to look around for another processor.  A friend of mine had an extra 2100+ tbred B AHIUB week 02 of 2003.  I thought, hey I'll slap that dude in there and change the multiplier to 14 or so and have a pretty decent box.  Well, it did not work out so nice.  I have the 2.7 bios and it does work with the 2100+ but only at default settings.  There are no multipliers in the cmos higher than 12.5 even though the board does seem to run fine at 13x.  I guess the higher multipliers work but are not listed in the selectable range.  What a screw up this board is.  Now I know why I switched over to Epox.  That board is 100% flexible.

Well, as you know if you have been following this thread.  I tried flashing to 2.8 to see if it would lower cpu temps and it did not.  What 2.8 did do was cause lockups.  It would lockup after a few minutes no matter where I was.  It did it just sitting in windows and even in bios.  After this I'd have to clear the cmos to get it to boot up again.  So I flashed back to 2.7.  Let me tell you, I was sweating it as I was thinking it would lockup while flashing.  Thank God it did not.  So no more lockups but now I have a different problem.  Well, maybe not a problem, more of an oddity.  The damn thing now boots up as soon as I apply power to it.  Kind of like I had the option in bios to return to an on state when power is reapplied.  But there is no option for that.  I tried all relevent options in bios.  It's not my power switch stuck on cause it does it with the switch unplugged.  I tried another power supply. Still does it so it's the K7N420 that is doing it.
    Anybody seen this?

  • KT266 PRO2 and PCI ATA controller

I have a lot of ide devices so I bought a PCI ide controller years ago. Now I got my little brothers motherboard. MSI KT266 PRO2, and plugged all my stuff into it. When it was time to reinstall Win, but it would not boot the cd, or from floppy. I checked the boot order, all looks fine.
Then I tried to take the PCI IDE controller out, and then it booted my winXP cd fine.
So basically, When the PCI ATA bios is loaded (the card), I'm unable to boot from cd-rom or floppy. Only boot from HDD1 works. So every time I need to reinstall windows, I need to unplug all harddrives from the PCI IDE controller card. Then windows is installed I can plug the harddisks back in...
I can't find an explanation to this...
No problem when the PCI IDE controller is used with 2 other motherboard I have. Latest bios is used on the motherboard and the pci IDE adapter card.
    MSI KT266 PRO2
    AMD athlonxp 1700+
    Sapphire Radeon 9600 PRO
    maxtor ata100 pci controller
    768 MB DDR pc-2100 ram

On the MB controller I have 2 harddrives on primary (one master, one slave), and 1 dvd-drive (master) and 1 cd-recorder (slave) on secondary.
On my ata controller card I have 2 extra harddrives for backup. Both on the IDE1. One as master and the other as slave.
    All drives are properly configured.

  • KT266 PRO2 & BIOS

    HEY GUYS
    I got a KT266 PRO2 (6380 Version 2)
NOTE::  NOT A RU OR A  Motherboard.
AMI Bios Version 3.3 Dated 11-30-01
    Now for the 3 questions
Is this the latest Bios for this motherboard? I cant seem to find anything on it at the MSI Site.
I want to put a XP1800 Thoroughbred processer and dont know if this board will support the 13U Core. Does anybody know??
By the way why isnt this listed on MSI site. I bought this board less than a year ago.
    thanks
    gray

Nawww your not dumb...Hey maybe its me.
Well i wanted to use an XP1800 (thoroughbred) processer which runs i believe at a lower voltage than a
XP1800 (Palamino) core. I was thinking that a BIOS flash my let me do this. However the boys over at AMDMB.COM says that  I cant run Thoroughbred on this motherboard without doing a mod. By the way this link might help somebody else.

  • Low/High Multiplier question

    Hi.
Apologies if this is a very basic question. I'm learning...
I have noticed in CPUZ that my core speed flicks from about 1320 to 2200 (with FSB 220 adjusted up from 200)...
I then noticed that the multiplier was changing from x6 to x10 to facilitate this
My mobo has a locked multiplier as do most at x6. However, in PC Wizard, there is listed a "low/high multiplier" of x6/x10
I didn't realise this was how the cpu adjusted core speed... i assumed it was more of a sliding scale. Is there any way to take advantage of this? Is it beneficial to lock it to the high multi? or does this just waste energy? Is that even possible? I was looking at testing out a higher multi with low FSB. Is this of any use? or should I stick with the x6 and accept the fact that my BIOS is crap?
    Thanks!
    Sam

    Hello oscarious,
the BIOS is not crap but appears to be doing precisely what it is supposed to do:  to adequately support the power saving features of your processor (essentially EIST (=Enhanced Intel SpeedStep Technology) and/or C1E [=Enhanced Halt State].  If the CPU is IDLE, multiplier and core voltage are reduced to save power and to keep the temperatures down.  They are increased back to standard level, as soon as the CPU gets stuff to do.  This is an intended behaviour and not a problem.
If you have further questions, please make sure that you post system specs, as in the current context, you have not even mentioned the board you are using and/or your processor model.  Please read the >>Posting Guide<< and create a signature that includes detailed system information.  That way, we will always instantly have a clear mental picture of your system configuration and don't have to guess or ask you everytime you have a question regarding your setup.

You mean a higher multiplier than x10?  I am afraid that is not possible (not because the board or BIOS would not allow to do that, but simply because Intel has hard-locked the CPU to x10 max. in this case).  You need an Intel Extreme Edition processor to be able to freely choose the multiplier you like to use.

  • KT266 Pro2-RU + mobile barton XP2500+M

There's been a lot on this forum about the modded bios etc which enables the 6380 v2 motherboard to be compatible with the later T'bred and thornton chips.
But searching through the maze of users' comments I've failed to locate anything saying that it is also compatible with the Barton chip, specifically the mobile Barton chips.
I currently use a 2 year old Thunderbird 1200mhz chip, and would like to upgrade to a Barton 2500+ mobile chip, as it's the only 266mhz Barton chip I can find in the UK. I assume that I cannot use a 333fsb chip on my mobile, unless it is unlocked an I can move the multiplier high enough?
I am utterly confused with the products that AMD have on offer. Is there anywhere where their performances have been compared? Is a T'bred 2500+ significanly slower than a Barton 2500+ because of the 512kb L2 cache?

    Hi all for again,
    I have K7T 266Pro2 - RU (MS-6380)
What is the max speed of processor/fastest procesor, which can I safely use? - I would like stable system too - I want NOT using overclocking...
    1) If I make all mods to work with Thoroughbred (update to BIOS 3.7, remove C37), it will work with Thorton?
    2) What is the max configuration (speed) with K7T 266 Pro2 - RU? I read much in this forum, but I'am very foggy. Is it 133 * 15 or 133 * 17.5 (with set auto in BIOS or HOW?)
What is the max configuration without doing some special mods (e.g. on processor) only with changing settings in BIOS and with removed C37?
What is the best and fastest choice of processor?
Many thanks for any advice and very sorry for my very poor english.

  • K7T pro2, problems with multiplyer.

I just unlocked my cpu (palomino 1700+) with superglue and conductive paint. caus i wanted to overclock it with the multiplyer.
    original clock is 10.5 * 133 now i can run in 11.5 *133.
When i try higher like 14 * 133 the bios sets it to 5 *133 and refuses to save it as 14.
Any comments on how to go around this problem ?
    I´ve downloaded the newest bios.
And the cpu is running at 40 degrees celsius so i have no heating problems.

Ok,   that wasnt much after all that work.
    But thanks for the reply.
Do u think i should get some active cooling on the northbridge instead of the passive that comes w the package?

  • Z68 GD65, i7 2600K L3 Cache slower @ higher multiplier?

Anyone having similar effect, or does it waste a cycle cause the multiplier is uneven or something?

Hmm I ran the benchmark a few times, didn't notice much difference in the values except when the benchmark was running it would either pause at a cell longer, or pass it faster on each sequental benchmark run but the values were fairly consistant. OS services should be the same. I did run the x41 benchmark a few more times since I thought the value was erroneous.

  • KT266 Pro2 Blue Screen.. via chips??

" something something, i'm not sure, all iget is the IRQ part about my AGP controller? or VIA chipset?
can someone please tell me how 2 fix it, and i have the via drivers installed, and videocard drivers updated

  • How To Overclock on KT266 Pro2

i was wondering how i would be able to overclock my AMD Athlon 1.333 Ghz to a higher speed w/ my mother board... where do i go in the bios? and how do i set it up?
wat about fan? should i get a fan that would cool down a CPu of the same speed? ie: Thermal Take fans that support up to a 1700+ Ghz for example, could i overclock my system up to 1700+ Ghz?
    Thanks

    Thanks rob, u helped  :D
but out of curiosity, wat about that program that MSI has that works in windows? i dont recall the name, fuzzy logic i think? is that anygood ?
and about overclocking.,.. how do i go about overclocking, i know how 2 change the clock speed, but wats this about vcore? my AMD guy told me i should leave it a 1.71 or something... how do i go about changing that, and wat should i leave it too?
BTW, im buying the Volcano 9 this weekend, so i would like to overclock by this weekend

  • KT266 Pro2-RU

    Hi
After update the bios whit the latest version (6380v37.exe) my system don't do a cool reboot.
When i make some change in bios and i save and exit the sistem save the change but the machine don't restart.
    some suggestions ???
    Thank's
    Andrea

Do you then have to press the power button for 5 secs and power off and then power on? My system is like that after I upgrade to 3.7 bios
It cold starts ok and boot into winXP, but when I do a restart in winXP, it just cannot restart past the bios POST, the screen blanks and the power led turns off with only the hd led on and I have to power if off with the power button and then on again .... a pain in the ass
The same thing happens if I make any changes in the bios and save and exit - it just cant go pass POST and I'll have to power it off and on again and it'll POST.
I went back to 3.3 bios immediately - 3.3. is the most stable to me.

  • Accessing hi multipliers, Pro2A

    k7t266 Pro2-A, 1700+ JIUHB
I've flashed the latest BIOS, but am unable to access mulitpliers above 12.5. When booting a higher multiplier, I get a boot speed listing of   ,667
Do I need to manually change a setting on the 1700? I've seen lots of info, a collection of it incomplete or contradictory. What needs to happen with this CPU and this board to get the multipliers?
    TIA!
    Paul

Take a look here www.ocinside.de as this is the easy
to do - for higher multiplyers you will need to manually unlock them to whatever you need - you will need more wires (about 5). Try using the pin-mode on the socket.
