MS-6738, Socket-462
I got this Elite computer through UBid. It's supposed to have a built in 3D graphics and a v.90 modem. It has a modem connection. The system says those components are installed but the motherboard isn't recognizing them. I've been told that the motherboard needs drivers installed for the motherboard installed. I've looked through the downloads section and don't see any of the downloads that pertain to my motherboard. Can someone direct me to the proper driver download so I can get my system up and running properly. Right now it only performs basic functions on the system. I appreciate any assistance I can get.
A search of the MSI site for that board number gives this. If that is your board you can access drivers and manual from that page.

So any idea as to why this would show up as socket 754..................Its got me baffled worse then i already am....DOH!!!!!!!!!!!Aye updating yer bios to version 3.2 as me_AMD suggests might help the problem.
Also what program did you use to pull up the information? Some programs still are still playing catch-up with their databases like Sandra 2005 and Msi's own infoview.
Neither correctly identify my cpu even after updating the bios
Try the latest version of Cpuz
and see what info that gives.

USB 2.0 Issues with KT3 Ultra2 6380E
Windows XP SP1
Bios: American Megatrends Inc. 07.00T
Hi I was wondering if someone could help me?
My machine has six USB ports. (1&2) Two ports are
installed on the motherboard, and my users guide says
they are legacy ports. (3&4) two ports are installed
on the d-bracket 2 connector: JLED, connected to
JUSB2, these are what I believe to be my only 2 USB2.0
ports. (4&6)Finally 2 ports are connected via JUSB3 to
the front panel of my Antec case. I think the front
panel of my case has 1.1 connectors so it is
essentially a 1.1 port.
I am having some difficulty getting my USB ports to
function properly with a USB 2.0 Buslink hard drive
UII-40 72E. I suspect there is some IRQ conflict.
Trying to alleviate this I disabled all the device
drivers I suspected might cause this in the device
manager in safe mode. I then removed from the device
manager all the USB (2.0 and 1.1) root hubs, and after
that their host controllers. I then booted to VGA
mode (thinking this should disable the video card
drivers??) and exported this IRQ info from my sys info
after the USB host controllers are reinstalled:
Resource Device Status
IRQ 9 Microsoft ACPI-Compliant System OK
IRQ 11 RADEON 8500 SERIES OK
IRQ 21 VIA Rev 5 or later USB Universal Host
Controller OK
IRQ 21 VIA Rev 5 or later USB Universal Host
Controller OK
IRQ 21 VIA Rev 5 or later USB Universal Host
Controller OK
IRQ 21 Standard Enhanced PCI to USB Host Controller OK
IRQ 0 System timer OK
IRQ 8 System CMOS/real time clock OK
IRQ 13 Numeric data processor OK
IRQ 12 PS/2 Compatible Mouse OK
IRQ 1 Standard 101/102-Key or Microsoft Natural PS/2
Keyboard OK
IRQ 14 Primary IDE Channel OK
IRQ 15 Secondary IDE Channel OK
IRQ 6 Standard floppy disk controller OK
Next I attempt to (already plugged into D-Bracket
port) power on my buslink USB 2.0 hard drive. As soon
as I do the machine immediately goes to a blue screen.
No messages given but numbers are shown. I have screen
shots taking with my digital camera. I then returned
to safe mode, remove the USB drivers as I did before,
and boot to VGA mode. Once the USB drivers have been
restored I attempt to power on the bus link hard drive
this time plugged into the onboard legacy ports. I
can I get another blue screen this time including a
message "IRQL not less or equal", again I have taken
screen shots with my digital camera.I then returned to
safe mode, remove the USB drivers as I did before, and
boot to VGA mode. Once the USB drivers have been
restored I attempt to power on the bus link hard drive
this time plugged into the front panel USB ports
(4&6). When I power it on Windows XP warns me that I
have a high-speed USB device plugged into a non
high-speed USB hub. But I receive no error messages.
However I do not exceed the drive through "my
computer". I go through the add hardware wizard to try
and at the drive manually and it says the device is
working properly. Still I do not see the drive.
Finally I tried installing a Buslink USB 2.0 PCI card
after the above steps. I then returned to safe mode,
remove the USB drivers as I did before, and boot to
VGA mode. Once the USB drivers have been restored I
attempt to power on the bus link hard drive this time
plugged into the PCI card. The drive seems to be
recognized automatically by Windows XP however my
system slows to a crawl trying to access any hard
drive. When I try and access the USB 2.0 hard drive I
get a message something to the effect of "(the drive
letter) not being recognizable".
Any ideas on what could be causing this? The same
Buslink hard drive works great at work on my Windows
2000 machine plugged into the same PCI card using the same USB cable and power supply. Would any other information be useful?
Thanks!
andrew

Then I tried the D-bracket after refreshing the usb drivers (I did not disable all other devices like in my original post, should I have?). Same result, blue screen crash at power on.
Next I disable USB ports in BIOS and install USB PCI card. Then power on the USB HD plugged into card. Same result. Computer slow accessing local drives. When I try to access the USB drive I get a "E:/ is not accessible; the file or data is corrupted or unreadable."
Next I remove the USB card. I enter BIOS and set to "2" ports. Presumably this turns on the USB1.1 ports on the mobo. I return to windows xp. It now seems to install the drivers, but just as it finishes I get a "a problem has been encountered instaaling this device (it has done this before but after finishing I get the blue screen most times). Next I goto the device manager, and in my USB devices I have a USB mass storage device w/ a yellow flag. I goto properties and see a:
"the device cannot start (code 10)" device status. I click "troubleshoot" and voila... blue screen.
Finally I reboot, and set 4 ports in BIOS, making my JUSB3 FRONT PANEL usb1.1? ports active. Interestingly these respond like the PCI card. Computer slow accessing local drives. When I try to access the USB drive I get a "E:/ is not accessible; the file or data is corrupted or unreadable." As soon as I power off the USB HD things are normal...
I will take this USB HD to work tomorrow just to ensure its integrity. Any other ideas? What kinds of BIOS settings might F up USB?

The report tab says my OS is Windows NT, but it's actually XP Home. (Yes, that's how old my computer is -- and that's why I'm looking for a solution other than just trying to see how updated a version of Firefox the computer can handle.)
The problem doesn't happen every time I try to search Google (or every time I succeed in getting to a page of search results and try accessing one of them). But it happens quite a lot, and often multiple times in succession. And when I try to use Crash Reporter to tell you, I get one of two responses:
(1) the standard autobot-reply suggesting an upgrade and this path; or, more often,
(2) nothing.
I don't want to abandon you -- and it would be hard to replace the computer at the moment. So what (to coin a phrase) can Mozilla do for me?
[UPDATE: The troubleshooter program won't install -- says it's not compatible with my old version of Firefox (3.6.20, says the About option in the Help menu). And the "show details" link at the bottom of this page won't reveal your "educated guesses about [my] current browser and operating system", so I can't do more to correct them -- sorry.]Hmm . . . I think maybe the CPU is okay, but I would appreciate any time and effort you folks could spare to confirm my work.
Wikipedia lists a "3300+" model twice in its article on Sempron processors. One is a "Socket A (Socket 462)" model named Barton and with a listed 130ns speed. The other is a "Socket 754" model named Palermo with a listed 90ns speed. The latter sounded familiar, but my left hand has worn off anything readable from the sticker next to the "mouse area" so I couldn't confirm it that way.
Checking the properties of the CPU (through my hardware configuration) revealed an interesting ID string which suggested my CPU was "family 15 model 44". And re-searching for that (via Yahoo, since I couldn't risk another Google crash) brought me to a late-2009 AMD Processors forum entry where some other expert answered a question by identifying that family and model as "AMD Sempron64 socket 754, e.g Sempron 2600+, Sempron 2800+, including all latest core stepping versions of desktop model Semprons, socket 754."
If that's correct, and I've followed along the road properly, then my CPU is also in that family, and in that socket -- which would mean it '''was''' one of the processors built to work with SSE2. And that, in turn, would mean it should be able to run the v21 of Firefox you mention -- right?
I don't know how much slower or faster v21 may be -- and I won't want to dump even the Mozilla-abandoned v3.6.20 until I see what if any side-effects there may be. But maybe there's an end in sight.
(If you have any hints for me on this score, I would appreciate them. Likewise if you have any idea why it took months of Reporting Crashes before I got any response at all, even from the autobot. But most of all, I would greatly appreciate your help in getting over what may be the final obstacle to finding out if it's possible for me and my old PC to run v21 . . . and in finding out what choices I have if that '''''doesn't''''' work.) -
Zen 4 - Zen 6.5 Inventory database upgrade fails
Hi all,
Have installed Zen 6.5 over a Zen 4 server (nw65) running inventory.
Database is on a seperate oracle server.
When I start inventory, it starts the database upgrade and then fails
with a java exception part way through, and then says "stopping the
upgrade service".
Following is the log. Anyone know which bit is falling over and why?
There's a few errors in the log and I don't know which are cosmetic/non
critical. Either way, I've researched each and can't find any fixes
anyway.
cheers
Dave

init_sl_0.sql
I found this file contained in migrate.zip under the wminv\properties
directory.
So I extracted the migrate.zip file, edited init_sl_0.sql and removed
the alter tablespace lines. Why they're wanting to do alter tablespace
I have no idea - applications shouldn't expect to be able to do that...
it's up to the organisation and the DBA to manage the tablespaces, not
the application.
I then re-zipped all the files using Winzip and named the file
migrate.zip and placed it in the properties directory.
Now, when the upgrade runs I get a java exception when it tries to
unzip migrate.zip and the upgrade bombs.
I also tried just opening the migrate.zip file with Winzip and directly
editing the file from within Winzip, which does allow for this. However
it appears the files inside the archive are flagged read-only, so
Winzip can't rewrite the edited file back into the same folder location
within the archive.
Here's the java exception:

Help needed with a Nav Bar and PHP page.
Hello, i'm designing a website
http://www.ahcagency.com for
wich i create a nav bar in FW and exported the html to DW and
inserted in a template so that way i update all the pages from the
template. Everything works fine, but i have a login page for a
secure area inside the same website and on the
http://www.ahcagency.com/login.php
page i have the problem. The nav bar has 7 buttons, if i insert the
first 3 buttons on the login.php page works very nice, but when i
insert all the 7 buttons the login.php does not work at all. Also i
insert the nav bar in all the php pages inside the secure area and
all works fine, the probles is only in the login page.
ANY ADVICE, I'M DOING SOMETHING WRONG?
Also when i create the buttons i gave them the four stages,
but only the 1st stage and the rollover work.
what i want is if i click on the services page, the services
button stay down while i'm on the services page.

My CPU reached 65 degree!!!
Hi all,
I am using KT6 Delta-SR motherboard with AMD 2800+. The temp reading for CPU showed 63-65 degree when using the Core Centre. The fan come with the CPU. The speed of the fan is around 4200rpm.
Is this temperature normal? And i did not O/C my CPU. What should i do now?
Thanks.Did you remove the tape on the thermal compound on the bottom of the heatsink?
A good thing to do for the gooey thermal compound that is pre applied by the manufacter is to unplug the fan for a little amount of time like 10-15 seconds that way it will heat up and melt and fill any of the microscopic valleys in the heatsink and the cpu die.
I would scrape the gooey junk off with a razor blade clean up the heatsink with some isoproply alcohol then apply a thin amount of thermal paste to the cpu. Thermal goo doesn't hold a candle to a good quality thermal paste stay away from the the cheap knock off silver pastes.
Read the trouble guide it will show you the correct way a heatsink should be mounted which is the step in the heatsink should be mounted so that it is over the cam box of the cpu socket(the part of the socket that says Socket 462) if it isn't the right way you won't have barely any contact to the cpu or you'll have no contact at all.
Airflow inside your case is also a big factor in cpu temps if the fan on the heatsink is sucking and blowing hot or warm air onto it then you'll always have high cpu temps you matter what money spend on a new heatsink. Make sure you have a intake fan providing fresh air into the case, and a exhaust fan to pull away the heated air. -
MSI K8N Neo Platinum - CPU Cooler?
Hi there, this is my first post to the forum and hope that someone can help
Bascially I've just purchased a MSI K8N Neo Platinum mobo to use with an AMD 64 2800.
I'm wondering if I should use the stock CPU cooler or look to purchasing a cooler such as a Zalman? I want to keep the computer as quiet as possible.
I've recently read that it would be better to use the Cool and Quiet option with the stock CPU cooler instead?Chris,
If you don't mind a used one, there are probably about a hundred thousand available ones from people in these forums who has upgraded their heatsinks, and that's about everyone
The problem is, we dont want to give them up. We bought the retail package with fan not because of the free heatsink/fan, but because of the 3 year warranty that you only get with said combo. To invoke the warranty, we'd have to return everything, including the heatsink/fan, so we hang on to it and let it collect dust.
So, for an aftermarket fan. If you don't plan to overclock, ever, the thermaltake silent boost K8 will do, although it is nowhere NEAR the 21dB that tt claims. They are known for shall we say, exaggerated claims. But it's certainly quieter than the stock HSF, and it's available everywhere.
Note that the "silent boost k8" is different from the "silent boost". The latter is for socket 462 I think. -

Hi,
We recently upgraded our ZFD3.2 SP3 standalone server (NW65SP2) to ZFD4.01.
All seems to be working ok except although the pre-existing ZFD3.2 database
inventory data is still in the database, we're unable to make it update, or
to import new inventory info, from pc's still running the ZFD3.2 agent.
Workstns running ZFD4 agents inventory and do everything without a problem.
Is this so by design - to ensure that 3.2 agents are updated asap? Or do we
have a problem?
Regards,
Steve LawHi Kai,
Please see below a log of a startup of the inventory service and then a full
scan of our ZFD3.2 workstation SLMZEN32NT, this was done with DEBUG5
enabled. There's also at the end a delta scan of a Zen4 agent workstation
called SZEN32NT4 - these are working fine.
There are some minor errors when the upgrade service starts:

What do you think? I followed the upgrade instructions to the letter and was

Some five years ago my friend Peter give my this MSI 6340 micro ATX mobo with the Duron 750 CPU. It allegedly worked, but very, very unstable. However I got intersed, because I see mainboard back from 2001 for Socket 462 processors - Duron, Athlon - that got interestingly designed Vcore regulator and mainly a polymer Fujitsu caps. The yellow ones are polymers - regardless that they have the top perforations like elektrolyte caps:
Also as they say - everything small is nice. And this board is really small, almost like just fit tomy hand:
The fact that the mainboard is unstable is understandable. It is only enough to look, what caps are on it - many bad caps like these Chhsi ones:
And these terrible caps are combined with polymers, witch is trully interesting combination, witch in the end probably allow the board to survive all the time working. At least sort of...
Near Vcore output coil, witch get pretty how when the caps in Vcore are bad, the Chhsi cap is leaking now:
...but it looks like these two good polymers hold him pretty well, so the computer somehow worked.
Except quality polymers there are on the mainboard also good caps - Chemicon KZE - as input filter caps, witch sure worked well. Even I did not trust Chemicons much, the bad batches of them are only the KZG, KZJ, TMV and TMZ series, not the KZE. And on top of that, they are nicely green:
However all that is not going to stop the instability of chipset, witch power voltage is "filtered" Chhsi terrible cap...
But all it all this looks like a decent Vcore design (for 2001):
560uF 4V Fujitsu polymers and 2700uF 6.3V Chhsi terrible caps is almone relatively qualite Vcore filtering, unless they start to break down, of course:
For rams and USB ports voltage filtering are used these bad caps Tayeh:
Of course the big problem is, when you push to big and heated coil a capacitor. This cap is really having a troubles, when the whole cascade is start to overhat:
However as you can see, bad caps are bulging even when they are long away from all typically overheating componets, like coils and mosfets:
MSI 6340 v1
2x 4700uF 6.3V d12.5 (Chemi-con KZE) -> 2x 4700uF 6.3V Panny FM d12.5 - P12347-ND
4x 2700uF 6.3V d10 (Chhsi) -> 4x 3300uF 6.3V Samxon GC d10
2x 820uF 4V d10 (Fujitsu) -> 2x 2700uF 2.5V Samxon ULR d10
2x 560uF 4V d8 (Fujitsu) -> 3x 1000uF 4V Samxon ULR d8
6x 1000uF 6.3V d8 (Chhsi) -> 6x 1000uF 6.3V Samxon GC d8
3x 330uF 6.3V d6.3 (Tayeh) -> 3x 470uF 6.3V Samxon GD d6.3
2x 47uF 16V d5 SMD -> 2x 47uF 16V Panny FK SMD d5 (16V) - PCE3397CT-ND
4x 10uF 16V d4 SMD -> 4x 10uF 16V Panny X5R SMD ceramic (4V) - PCC216CT-ND
(one polymer I added near the CPU, because it was removed and these 47 and 10uF SMD little caps I did not yet replaced, as I did not have anything to replace them with ATM)So years ago I already gather for this recap the caps, witch give me Big Pope - at lest these Samxon caps. Adding the 1000uF 4V cap increased the total Vcore output capacity to 18 300mF in 8 caps! (for example the famous Socket 462 mobo DFI Lanparty B have Vcore output wth only 4 caps and 13 200mF total capacity - and no polymers!)
Whole look at the Vcore part of the mainboard after recap:
Look at the bottom caps from Vcore and for the AGP powering:
Much smaller todays polymers (560uF was - 1000uF is) for the same voltage is really just small "bits" compared to these 3300uF Samxon GC caps near them:
On the other hand, a 2700uF Samxon URL polymers are quite big pieces of caps:
And at the end, whole look at the MSI 6340 mainboard - little mobo:
Fun fact - after powering the mobo for the first time it show up, that for whole five years the real time clock is running. And on top of that, it even show good time - only +30min, witch is for 5 years w/o usage and with desoldered caps something amazing, I did not expect that And mobo is working quite well after the recap, even that the new CPU-Z version does not detect FSB, witch is weird. But the CPU-Z autor is already asked for some info to fix this, so there is a hope that this get fixed:
http://valid.canardpc.com/vblm4v
FSB 0 is not looking really truthfully :D
Also is worth noting, that the mobo has a pretty detailed setup in the bios (especially considering that this is VIA KT133 chipset and SDRAMs) and even overclock possibilities, where one can choose from Default setting (100MHz) to 117MHz FSB (37MHz for PCI). However the result from this last settings (with so quality caps I did not expected and problem so I tried this right away) is, that CPU is working at 256MHz when using this setting :D (30x7.5) Well, there is a good deal of fun with this little MSI mobo... -
well i went to burn a few dvd's last night and to my suprise the burner says it writing at 16x but won't write quicker then 1.0x so it takes about 1hr to write a disk :(
anyway to test the burner i put it in another system and it worked flawlessly, so the problem has to the jmicron ide controller ob this board. my guess is that it has my dvd drive stuck in PIO mode. anyone else had any issues? any fixes?Quote from: sbeeze on 08-September-06, 04:46:05
explains why i never ran into it all my builds in the last 10 years has been on socket 462,754, 939, and 940 till recently i started to see more intel 945/965/975 boards. good to know this though.
Hi all, i feel a bit embarrassed to tell that i'm the same as sbeeze, who had been supporting AMD until lately just started to look into Intel...
Here's some silly questions:
1) Since Intel needs to install RAID even if we don need it, how to install it? Izzit during windows installation press F6? or from the cd that comes with the mobo?
2) If i already have my windows xp installed, could i just install this RAID driver now? or do i need to re-install windows again?
Thanks in advance! -
Just a stupid question, but Im a new user to the real expensive GOOD video cards and I'm trying to figure out the settings for the card, should i raise the Clock speed, and the memory clock speed or leave them alone, I have downloaded the manuals from MSI website and printed it out, and it really didnt explain it (unless im blind..LOL) but anyway.. can someone give me some tips on how to maximize the use of the card, Im a gamer at heart and would like to get the most out of the card with out overheating and damaging anything... i did down load the 3D Mark 05 havent run it yet cuz im not sure what im lookin at... I would sure appreciate any help that you can offer... the only games i will be playing is Call of Duty online, and Halflife 2 when i purchase it real soon.... thanks again... TR
THANK YOU a million times over Glenn... I know your super busy, and would like to say thanks on taking the time to help.. I will download the Everest Home Edition program first thing in the morning, have to run to OMAHA to take family back to Airport, but will return tomorrow night around 6PM or so.... THANK you SO MUCH for the info on the sound card.. i will go back to the Sound Storm Audio, and remove the SB Live card... It is in slot 2 (middle PCI slot) and thats the only one in there besides the AGP card... but the more info i get to help, the better my puter will run.. i will also get ya the specs on the power supply too... thanks again...Jeff...
ok.. couldnt stand it.. i went and downloaded Everest program and WOW what info... heres the power supply specs that was in the file:
Are these good or bad??.. and what would you recommend i do... im really limited on funds.. so be easy...LOL... Thanks, I didnt get a chance to pull the cover but i will when i get back tomorrow and get ya the specs off the Power supply....

Turbo2 Overclock 1600+ 2000+ (Locked)
Having a little fun this AM overclocking. Pray it holds ! Got my 1600+ (1400MHZ) to 1650MHZ, just short of full 1666, but posts XP2000+ on a locked CPU. Doing 157FSB x 10.5.
Running Crucial PC133 at CAS3, and seems as fast or faster than 1575 @ CAS2.
CPU at 43C and chassis at 20C per PC Alert III (medium grade Coolermaster #DP5-7H53F 37.5 CFM). Voltage set at 1.80, reading 1.78 in bios.
Perfectly stable now, and will change my signature if it holds. Here's a WCPUID report just for the record:
