MS-7046 with latest BIOS destroys SATA-Harddisks!

Hello there,
my mainboards returns "MEDIONPC" as manufacturer, "MS-7046" as modell... BIOS is by Phoenix Technologies, V6.
I know, Medion is responsable for support, but they said they'd need 3 weeks for repairs... o0
Harddisk is by Western Digital.
Though I have the newest BIOS, my harddisks fails after time. When exchanging them, the exchanged will fail after time and so on...
When failing, the BIOS displays: 571GB, PIO 0, ""bzbzbzbzbzbzbzbzbzbzbz...".
I really don't know how to fix this.
I don't think the harddrive gets too hot, its maximum temperature gets 40°C.
The problem is being described here:
http://club.aopen.com.tw/forum/viewmessage.asp?forumID=49&MessageID=59311
And here:
http://www.computerhilfen.de/hilfen-4-71119-0.html
Please help...

Hi!
Have a look at the connector you used. If you have the full K8T Neo, you have two SATA controllers. One VIA and one Promise. You then have 4 SATA ports on the board. you need to use the ones closest to your RAM, so, the upper ones.
Did you buy a SATA or SATA-II disk? In case it's SATA-II, check the SATA/SATA-II jumper on the drive and set it to SATA-I. Your board does NOT support SATA-II.
when you checked this, please verify in BIOS that you actually did enable the VIA V8237 SATA controller. When you did, boot further untill the POST screen disappears. Now, you see a VIA SATA BIOS screen. It should list your Seagate now.

  • Thunderbolt EX2 cards working on Asus boards with latest bios

I finally got a chance to test this. The Asus Thunderbolt EX2 cards are working with the latest bios on the X99 Deluxe. Requires some bios settings and bottom slot location but it does work.

No one has this problem at all?
I want to find out for sure if there is a fix before going back to the older drivers.
If i do the test in the spdif out properties panel -> supported formats. When I do the dolby digital test I see the light come on in my receiver and hear sound just thru the front speakers. But when I use power DVD 9 ultra with the latest patch. I don't get the digital light on my receiver. I had this working with the previous drivers released earlier this year.

  • Z87 MPOWER reboots automatically after shutdown with latest BIOS

    Hi!
I was having some problems with the RAM using XMP profile (CORSAIR CMD16GX3M2A1866C9 2*8GB 1866MHz Cl9). Mainly I had some occasional reboots at windows startup and some rare random blue-screens but it all went away after updating the BIOS to version 1.7 .
But now I'm having another issue. After shutting down the PC it turns itself on after 1 second. It only started to happen after the 1.7 update. Any ideas of what it might be?

problem is that AMD BEMP profiles are grayed out,With this processor and memory the BEMP profile should be available both AMD and Patriot the makers of the memory say the problem is the bios not being read correctly by AMD overdrive. Now how do we get a bios release that will be correctly read by AMD Overdrive.here are pics of cpu-z and AMD overdrive BEMP.
I used the instructions posted here  but the image in the instructions doesn't show either

Does AMD overdrive start and work on your system, besides the BEMP thing: yes!, so that is not the question or problem here.
Do you have the hardware components that are needed to support BEMP: NO!

  • WD6400BPVT SATA hard drive in Satellite A100 LE1(E) not recognized by latest BIOS

I recently purchased a WD6400BPVT (640GB) 2.5" SATA drive to replace the original 80GB drive. I have updated the BIOS to the latest version (2.30). With the new drive installed the system hangs on the splash screen when the BIOS tries to recognize the drive. I can not even enter the BIOS. If I put the old drive back in, the system boots fine again. I know the new drive is good because I have installed it sucessfully in an A100-0FH (also with the latest BIOS - vesion 6.00 without issues.
I tried Toshiba techical support in Canada and all they could tell me was to install SATA drivers. I tried to explain to them that the system does not get to the OS, so it is impossible to do so and it would not help in any event. Then they wanted me to pay for service since the system is out of warranty. I asked if they would refund my money if they failed to "fix" it, and the lady said "no". When a BIOS upgrade is required no technician willl be able to fix my problem. When I declined to pay the lady just hung up on me. So much for service.
I am trying desperately to bring this issue to Toshiba's attention. I know a simple BIOS update will fix it. If the WD640 does not work, which other drives will not work? How many drives to I have to buy to try to find one that works?
I have 5 Toshiba Satellite notebooks in the family, one that had to go in for warranty repairs twice. They followed up to make sure I was happy and I have been a very happy Toshiba customer so far. The treatment I got from technical support in Canada francly sucked. I am hopinng that someone withing Toshiba will read this and pass it to their BIOS people and then e-mail me an updated BIOS that will recognize my drive. Failing that I would at least hope for a list of large 2.5" SATA drives that my A100 LE1 will recognize.
    Thank you.

    Thx lorddethstalker.
I dropped the original sticks of RAM back in.  Same error with TOSHIBA Recovery Wizard.  Same apparent dead end with System Recovery Wizard.  I get to System Recovery Options where I do not see the Vista operating system and am instructed to load drivers for the hard disk--but do not know what I am supposed to load from where.
I also do not know what I should expect to encounter in the context of a new SATA drive + Toshiba recovery disks.  I sort of expected a plug and play scenario, plug in the new hard drive, boot to recovery disks, format new hard disk and install OS.  How do I determine the drivers I should load at the System Recovery Option screen, and/or what should the "normal" sequence of events be with new SATA?
    Gracias.

  • Incompatible SATA harddisk with PowerMacG5

    Hi..
I bought a new Power Mac G5(Dual Core 2.5 GHz) with 250GB Serial ATA hard disk(pre-installed).
But the system is not at all stable and showing problems from the beginning itself. Its frequently hangs when boot up,when contacted the supplier, they replaced the system, but the problem remains.
I tried many things like migrated to Adobe CS2,used less fonts.
The latest problem is that it fails to mount the harddisk. When I opened the case,it was a Western Digital SATA harddisk with 250GB capacity, when I visited the Western Digital's Website,
its clearly mentioned that that type of hard disk is not compatible with the OS X or OS 9. Then how comes I get the System like this with incompatable hard disk preinstalled..?
Please visit western Digital's website for the more informations

    Dear Sir,
    Thanks for the reply.
I dont feel its a refurbished machine..Its taken from an apple reseller only..I formatted the harddisk twice or thrice to reinstall the OS.But it will work for one day,and it will show the problem again.
about Western Digital HDD..Their site tells the incompatability..
Let me quote from the site
Which internal drive is compatible with my operating system: SATA or EIDE?
Your operating system, as well as your hardware, must support the hard drive you choose:
Operating System WD SATA Hard Drive Compatibility WD EIDE Hard Drive Compatibility
Windows® 2000 or XP Yes Yes
    Windows 98SE No Yes
    Windows 98 No Yes
    Mac® OS X No Yes
    Mac OS 9.x No Yes
Note: Compatibility may vary depending on user's hardware configuration and operating system.

Is there a way (update, etc) to come around it

    Hello
Well, I think its a Windows Xp problem. After a long investigation I found this information on the official Microsoft website.
    http://support.microsoft.com/kb/q283649/
That is because the new ACPI specifications are not compatible with the BIOS.
    Please check this:
    http://www.microsoft.com/HWDEV/Onnow/BIOSAML.htm
It seems you have to upgrade your BIOS to solve this problem.

  • X301 Secure Erase with new BIOS

    Hi there,
I switched to an Intel X18-M SSD on my X301 some time ago. I noticed that the new BIOS was released with Secure Erase functionality some time ago. As I was going to rebuild my laptop today, I thought I would give it a go. Turns out that this was a mistake. The utility failed on the Intel SSD necessitating a reboot after running for six hours. After the reboot, it turns out that the utility has set a hard drive password on the disk (there was not one before). As I have no way to know what password it has set, I am effectively locked out of my drive and it's a brick to all intents and purposes.
Does anyone (Lenovo in particular) know what password is set during the running of the Secure Erase functionality of the latest BIOS? My only alternative is to find out if there is a default master password from Intel. Since in principle, this should be blank, I believe that I am scuppered unless someone in Lenovo can tell me what password they set using the utility.
    Thanks in advance.
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

    Hi Andy,
    From the instructions at http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site.wss/document.do?sitestyle=lenovo&lndocid=MIGR-68369:
    Turn off the computer.
    Turn on the computer.
While the "To interrupt normal startup, press the blue ThinkVantage button" message is displayed at the lower-left area of the screen, press the F1 key. The BIOS Setup Utility menu will be displayed. If a password prompt appears, type the correct password.
Select the Security menu of the BIOS Setup Utility menu.
Select the Solid State Drive menu. The following message is displayed. Erase the Solid State Drive in the HDD bay [Enter]
    Press Enter key.
Hitting Enter key makes showing next caution message and confirmation.
Yes confirmation shows next confirmation message.
If a harddisk password was set, a password prompt appears. Type the correct password.
Further process will start after entering the harddisk password.
Press F3 key several times to exit the BIOS Setup Utility.
As I did not have a HDD password set, I did not see step 9.
The utility is intended to perform a secure erase of a SSD using the ATA command set. In order to achieve this, it must first set a password on the drive (which is why it requires the user tell it the pwd if none has been set - see the end of this post for detailed documentation of this requirement).
In normal operation, the password would be cleared at completion of the operation. Because the operation failed however, the password is currently still there. Since I do not know what it is, I have been locked out of the (very expensive) drive.
In other tools which perform a secure erase (such as HDDERASE.EXE), the password which is set is documented for situations like this. This is not a security issue, rather it is one of following the correct process as laid down by the ATA standard.
It may well be that Lenovo has used a randomly generated password, in which case they have bricked my drive. If not, and a 'default' password is in use, then there is a means to recover the drive if they would document it. Since this is not a security issue, it really shouldn't be a problem. Furthermore, since the password was set without my consent, the security issue is mine since the utility has effectively executed a denial of service on me.
See here for details of the ATA secure erase protocols to understand how the password is used:
    https://ata.wiki.kernel.org/index.php/ATA_Secure_Erase
The relevant section which explains why the Lenovo utility does this is:
"To successfully issue an ATA Security Erase command you need to first set a user password."
This is what the utility has done and by not subsequently removing it, has denied me access to my drive.
    Cheers.

  • Tecra A11 - Video/Latest BIOS issues

    Hello All,
I just received a Toshiba Tecra A11 the other day which is out of warranty (Refurb). When I got the laptop there was an issue where the picture was displayed at 1024x768 and off centre (In BIOS). The image was 1-2cm off screen to the left, with about 5-6cm black space to the right of the picture, the bottom 2-3 cm's of the picture were also off the bottom of the screen.
I installed Ubuntu Studio initially and attempted to force the display to a widescreen resolution. I didn't have any luck, I also installed Win7 but still with the latest drivers I had no luck.
This was strange because BIOS was displayed the same way so naturally I decided to upgrade to the latest BIOS version. The BIOS on the laptop was quite old (End of 2009).
I downloaded the BIOS update from Toshiba's web site, and ran the update.
The new BIOS was installed and the machine rebooted.
However there was no picture displayed on the LCD panel, windows did successfully boot, if I connect an external monitor to the laptop I get picture. When starting the laptop the LCD backlight does light up.
My question is: What can I do to resolve this issue? Is there a BIOS recovery or downgrade tool available? Is it possible to reflash the bios? What is recommended?
    Thanks.

    > The new BIOS was installed and the machine rebooted.
    > However there was no picture displayed on the LCD panel, windows did successfully boot, if I connect an external monitor to the laptop I get picture. When starting the laptop the LCD backlight does light up.
Does this mean that everything is ok using external monitor?
Can you access the BIOS pressing F2 and can you set it to default settings?
Usually you can switch between external and internal display using the key combination FN + F5. Does it work?
