MS-7194 RD480-Neo2, please help

I am running bios 3.0 that came on the board.  In the core cell menu, I cannot find any settings for htt multiplier (1x-5x).  The only options that I have are Auto (htt= 1300 mhz or 1400 mhx at 2.7ghz cpu), and 200 mhz (1:1 ratio, 270 mhz at 2.7 ghz CPU).  What happened to 2x, 3x or 4x?  Thank you.

Should be the field called HT LINK SPEED.
That is the only reference in the bios I can find to the Hyper Transport.
nope that mobo doesn't have usual HT Link regulator. there are 2 options only "Auto" or "OCed"

  • Big problem with neo2, please help

    Hi
I just got my new neo with bios 1.4already in it and a 3000 winchester.
i did a clean install of windows, then newest 5.10 nforce from nvidia.com, I did not installed firewall.
And everything was cool except ethernet because it was not recognized (I mean the Nvidia was recognized but realtek gigabit was not recognized). here is the first question, Do I really need gigabit lealtek enabled in bios to connect to internet???
i have a comcast high speed internet and on other boards I don't need to configure anything, just install the windows and internet was working. unfortunately here is different, after installing windows and drivers n-force I don't have acces to the internet!!!!!!! I don't know what to do. On the back of mobo there arwe 2 lan connections slot. When I plug my cable to the first one, I don't see any light coming from the cable (you know the orange light bipping frequently) but windows is recognizing that cable was plugged in. When I plug it to the secong lan slot the orange light are binpping but the windows is saying "internet cable unpluged"!!!1
What a heck is going on??? please help me!!!!!!
I hope you can help me
    Thank you

nevermind. I reset modem and everything works !!!!!!!!!

  • K8N Neo2 Please Help!!!!

I'm going to buy K8N Neo2 Platinum mainboard and I'm going to use it for Windows 2003 Enterprise Server.
I want to know if the drivers which I get with the mainboard CD are also for Windows 2003 Enterprise Server? And if there is something alse that I need to know when using this mainboard with Windows 2003 Enterprise Server?
    Thanks.

The CD - supplied drivers will work...some folks are running the BETA version of Windows64 and Server 2003 with them...when available, I don't see why they cannot also be updated!!!

  • RD480 Neo2-FI only detects 3 out of 4 gigs of memory HELP!!

Hi guys, I just put together a barebones PC from Tigerdirect. I have 4 1024Mb sticks of ULTRA DDR400 memory, the bios and operating system will only detect 3. I have swapped the sticks around, removed one at a time, ect, and they all seem to work by themselves. Has anyone had an issue like this before? My troubleshooting has been limited as I feel consulting with this forum for ideas is probably better then a day of easter egging the problem. Here are my specs. The Bios is the original that came with the board. I havent updated it because I havent heard of any update fixing this problem nor do I have a floppy drive and the MSI update utility is incompatible with the 64 bit version of windows.
-Motherboard type and model (MSI 7194, RD480 Neo2 FI)
-Bios type and revision (American MegaTrends Version 8.12, SMBIOS/DMI Version 2.30) From SISsandra
-CPU type and model (AMD Athlon 64 3700 SanDiego Core Socket 939)
    -Memory name, model and quantity (ULTRA ULT30082 PC3200 400MHz, (4) 1024MB modules)
-Video card name and model plus drivers and version (EVGA e-GeForce 7600 GT KO)
-Power Supply name, model and the amp rating for the +3.3V, +5V and +12V lines plus any limitation on the +3.3/+5V combined watts.   ULtra V-series 350W 3.3V@18 AMPS, 5V@ 18AMPS, 12V@ 25Amps
-Hard Drives: Seagate, 8 gig IDA hard drive
    -Optical Drives: 1 52x cdr
-Microsoft Widows xp pro x64 edition
thanks any help is better then no help...I'm hoping I am just missing a setting or something..thanks again,
    Gene

I think this may be an issue with the processor not the motherboard.  Athlon 64 processors have the memory controller built-in on the cpu.  I dont think the 939 socket A64 rev E6 memory controller can support 8 banks (4 double-sided ddr modules) at 400 MHz.  Try to manually force the memory speed to 266 MHz or 333 MHz and you may be able to access all 4gb of ram.
EDIT: I looked around a little and I see suggestions that the problem of being able to max out the banks at 400mhz was already remedied by the E6 revision memory controller, so this may not be helpful  Earlier cores had significant memory controller constraints and could not run 4 gb unless you turned down the memory speed or ran single-sided ram (most 512mb and 1gb  modules are dual-sided).

  • New Radeon 5770 1GB and old MSI RD480 Neo2 motherboard incompatible?

    Hi,
Am having problems getting my machine to post after inserting a new graphics card: Sapphire Radeon 5770 1Gb.  Have no problems with my old card in the PCI-E slot (X800GTO) - it works fine.  But when I insert the 5770, the machine won't even post.
The core of my machine is ~4 years old, with a MSI MS-7194 RD480 Neo2 motherboard.  I've updated the PSU to a Corsair 650W and as the light on the graphics card is on and ATI recommend a 450W PSU I doubt it's a power issue (and yes, I have attached a PCI-E power lead to the 5770)...
Is the issue that my motherboard is too old? Or is there a newer BIOS for it? I tried the MSI LiveUpdate tool which said there wasn't.
So I'm a bit stumped! Am in the process of putting a new machine together, but can only buy 1 or 2 parts each month - I was hoping to make the most of the graphics card before I had to cough up for a new CPU/Mobo!
All help gratefully received - thanks!
    PS

  • K8N Neo2 problem? or Hdd problem? please help me verify

after setting up my board, i quickly flashed it to 1.3 via dos....yup...no liveupdate :D xp installed smoothly without problem, couple days later...maybe it was just the next day...cant really remember. something started to happen:
    1) from a cold boot, i'd get stuck on windows loading screen(where the bar moves), or stuck right after the loading screen...hence black screen. Sometimes it could get into windows.....but stuff wont load properly.
    2) sometimes clearing CMOS would work, but thats not something i want to do often. need to solution.
    3) sometimes it just wont go into windows at all, it just kept on auto reboot when it tries to enter windows
    4) when I try to reformat it; while doing fdisk, worse things happen......i delted everysingle partition and drives, and when it comes to testing drive integrity,,,,it got stuck....after a reboot, all the drives are back. and in order to get it to work properly....i'd have to clear cmos again.
    5) sometimes while reinstalling windows, some files could not be copied.....but the disc was perfectly fine as i just formatted my intel rig a few days ago. booting a couple of times and formatting a couple more times + clearing cmos a tons of times could solve it temporarily.
    6) yesterday, afer the dos section of xp installation was completed, i shut down my rig coz i really had to sleep. so today, i woke up and try to continue the windows portion.....gosh it didnt work, it says "fail to open ***some file****" while typing this, im reformatting my drive again.
    7) ive also used WD's utility to diagnostic the hdd, passed all the tests
    My Spec is as following:
    3200+
    k8n neo2p
2 X 512 ocl 3200EL plat (used only 1 peice on dimm#1 while performing things stated above)
    sapphire9800pro
    antec neo power 480
    160 WD IDE
I am certain that its not the ram, not the psu, not the vga as all had been tested on my intel rig before used. only thing that i could think of is either the hdd is screwed, or the board's defective. I also reflashed the bios to make sure my first bios flashing session wasnt faulty. please help me to troubleshoot this man....thanks in advance
i thought it might be nvidia's ide driver problem, but bear in mind that the fdsik problem happens before the driver is even loaded.

ive always seperated the hdd's cable from otehr drive's cable.
funny thing about wd's hdd is, if I had the jumper on...even master....i couldnt even enter the bios. it would just stuck at POST screen. so i never had the jumper on.
unfortunately, nobody in my province is carrying MSI's board....thanks to its "good" reputation in explodidng and melting down lol, so im on my own with this board.
the hdd used on neo 2 was actually a retail wd hdd, bought not exceeding 2 months....before i got the 3200+ s939 it was used as my backup drive in my intel rig. it worked fine.
ive just reinstalled windows into the hdd with my intel rig, currently the hdd has nothing, no drivers whatsoever, nada :D im leaving it that way for a day or so. if it doesnt boot up, im gonna try it on my intel board. if it boots up on my intel....there must be something wrong with the neo2...
is there any other more stable bios aside of the official 1.3? and would it actually void the warranty if I used modded bios? something im not so certain about :(

  • Please help!!! Poor performance Neo2...can't figure out why!!

    Hi people,
I have worked on this issue for days!!  I cannot figure it out!  Here is the problem:
I used to have a Soltek AND Asus A8V mobo (both via chipsets), and scored approx 12,890 in 3dmark03 and 5,100 in 3dmark05, respectively ON BOTH BOARDS!
I have swapped out these boards with the msi neo 2 (latest revison) w/ bios 1.4.  I have the SAME other equipment as shown in my signature.
    I only get approx 9,800 in 3dmark03 and 3,889 in 3dmark 05.  Roughly a 2,000/1,000 point lower difference respectively.
I cannot for the life of me figure out why. I have thought about this for days and searched this and many other forums to no avail.
I have installed the latest nforce 6.14 driver and the forceware 67.02.  I have tried other drivers as well, using driver cleaner between installs.  Still no go.
Bios is set at optimized default.  AGP fast writes disabled.  AGP Aperature size 256.  The 6800gt is oc'ed to 400/1100.  No oc on mobo.
I also did a search and found a review of this board w/ a 3dmark03 bench using the same video card as mine that shows a mark of 15,500 @ resolution 640x480.
So I tried the same test @ resolution 640x480 and scored 2,000 less marks.
I just don't understand this.  Can someone please help and try to shed some light on this for me.  I am SO perplexed about this!!

Why are you not using the  Soltek or Asus A8V anymore?
i have almost the same machine as you and i to am very disappointed with the performance of my setup.
I have also tried other drivers and  installing differecnt OS's (win2k, winXPsp1, winXPsp2), which did not seem to help.  although drivers did make my benchmarks vary depending on dirver and OS.
I was just about to buy either the soltek 939 pin board or the asus A8V, to see if i can solve my performane issues.
the only other board that looks really good is the gigabyte GA-K8NSNXP-939, but this board also has an nforce3 chipset and i am begining to think that the nforce3 chipset sux.
The only other explanation for the lack of performance or perceived lack of performance is that we are running 64bit CPUs under a 32bit environment  and therefore using only half the power of these CPU's.

  • RD480-Neo2 FI RAM issues

    Greetings,
I've come across a bit of a RAM problem and I'm hoping someone can help me with it. I've had an RD480-Neo2 FI motherboard with an Athlon 64 X2 3800+ CPU for about two years. Originally I had 2 1gb sticks of OCZ PC3200 DDR in slots 1 and 3. The box has been rock solid the whole time running XP x64. This week I purchased the exact same 2 stick matched set to upgrade to 4gb total. However, when I first installed the two new sticks in slots 2 and 4, I was getting nothing at all when turning on the PC. No beeps, no video, etc. After some fiddling I was able to get it to boot (still not sure what was wrong) but both BIOS and Windows XP only displayed 3gb total, and I was having some serious stability issues culminating in a BSOD. I ran Memtest and was seeing some pretty horrific failures.
So I took 3 sticks out and tested each stick one at a time in slot 1, all passed. Then I took 1 stick and tested it in the other 3 slots. In slot 2 and 4, I'm getting failures on the 7th and final test, "Moving inv, ones & zeroes, no cache." I assume these slots have just been bad since the mobo was new since I've never used it before, now I've learned something I need to test in the future when buying new mobos. Was this a valid test to perform? IE, is it possible to test these slots without RAM in slots 1 and 3? If not, is there some other way I can test this to make sure this is the problem? I don't expect that MSI can really do anything for me a year outside the warranty period, and I wasn't planning on spending money on a new mobo right now...

    Hello!
I have not a ready and final answer to your question, but here is a good start to help you help yourself.  Please read the FAQ:s about memory you find here:
    http://global.msi.com.tw/index.php?func=prodfaq&prod_no=219&maincat_no=1&cat2_no=&cat3_no=
A summary might be that nothing is wrong with your motherboard still, but that your combination of sticks winds up in a problematic situation.
PSU details, too, please. Two years is a long time, and wear and tear and dust is always something to look out for.

  • RD480 Neo2-Fi Bios-level Overclocking with Opteron 165

I have an inquiry regarding my ability to overclock my CPU (Opteron 165) with the RD480 Neo2-Fi motherboard via the motherboard.  The settings for FSB, CPU voltage, Chipset Voltage, Ram Voltage are all locked out on the latest revision of the bios (V3.20).  I am wondering whether this is simply an issue in that the Opteron 165 was just recently added to the list of supported CPU's (it works perfectly at the stock settings and o'c settings through CoreCenter) and the CPU ID just hasn't been added to the last bios.  The overclocking options available to me through CoreCenter (which I dislike using very much, as it is very buggy and simply ugly) are all available and fully functional although somewhat limited(obviously you cannot change core voltage).  If anyone has any advice please reply.

    Hello !!
You should ask MSI Taiwan directly:

  • Cannot install windows, starting to get really pissed off with this PLEASE HELP

ok, i'm starting to get agitated with this.
i cannot install windows XP, 2003, OR Longhorn on my machine.
right now, i have the following setup:
    msi 865pe neo2 motherboard
    intel p4 3.2ghz w/HT (factory HS/Fan currently)
    1 dimm of PC3200 crucial DDR400
30GB maxtor HD plugged into primary IDE
pioneer dvd/cd drive as sencondary IDE
    alps 3.5" floppy drive
    antec true blue 480wt PSU
    i do the following:
    format with maxtor cd
    boot from OS cd
    start setup, reboot, continue
the farthest i can get is 'registering components/completing installation' i either get a blue screen stop error which isnt the same everytime, or it just locks up and doesnt do anything.
ran the memtest checker and get errors on test #4
i had a DIMM of kingston that gave the same errors, so i RMA'd it and got another. same errors, so i RMA'd again and got a Crucial stick. same errors.
so i RMA'd the motherboard since i figured it had to be that. and it improved from the problems i had earlier. (the problems i had before were worse before.)

yea, i dont plan to run the 250. im gonna wait for the new 480.
thanks for the info about ram timings as well. i havnt gotten any solid answers about what to set it to.
even with new mobo and ram, i'm getting errors in memtest86 #4 test as i always have. i've tried different slots with same problems.
i only have one module because i dont want to waste anymore money on a non-working system. once i get it up and running i'll add another 512.

Congrats on 'Rolling your Own' for the first time.  I'm certainly no expert although I have sucessfully built a few.  Actually, my specs are almost identical except I'm using Kingston Value Ram instead of Cosair.  As far as your first question, I assume you mean the internal USB/MB connectors and the MB audio connector(s).  The information is in the MSI Neo2 Plat manual although you have to look closely and move back and forth between the MB schemaic and the section(s) describing the connections to get a clear fix.  The MB USB connectors are on the side of the MB furthest from the RAM slots and about in the center, (JUSB1 or JUSB2).  The audio connector (JAUD1 is located on the same side of the MB as the USB connectors only near the rear panel end, (close to the orange PCI slot).  As you, I found that that I could not use three ram sticks as I could in my old K7 board and when I bought two sets of matched ram I found that it didn't like 4 sticks either.  Three:  Would'nt post  Four:  Instability and an initial  hit in performance;  although I was able to finally coax it to 200mhz Dual Channel it wasn't worth it because of the random crashes n Windows I was getting. I have also discovered the hard way that for some reason my board at least is hypersensitive to IDE  cables, (Would not recognize any secondary IDE device on Channel 1 until I found the right cable) and it does not like Sound Blaster audio cards prior to Audigy 2 ZS.  Actually, it only tolerates a ZS and I had problems and it didn't like my new X-Fi at all until I moved it to the PCI slot closest to my video card.  I was getting random BSODS and crashes, (one that took out my OS).  Since I move the card things appear to be more stable, so far.  Anyway good luck.
