MS-7345 P35 Neo2 - Attempted Liveupdate BIOS v1.8 - Now cannot Boot

Installed Liveupdate3 from MSI which quickly directed me to download and install the new BIOS update (1.8).
Liveupdate did the necessary - I installed a Floppy as a rescue BIOS disk as instructed.
Installation completed but rebooted to CMOS Checksum Bad message only.  Neither F1 nor F2 options allowed progress out of this error loop.  If I remove the Floppy and allow a reboot then I get a message suggesting there is no operating system.   Eek!
Have tried rebooting from rescue disk but settings appear not to save.  CMOS setup won't allow disabled protection.
Also tried CMOS reset followed by fresh reboot from Floppy but after prompting for Time/Date settings the same error message ensued.
I appreciate that similar issues have been posted before but, as a newbie who is struggling to find what the critical factors here might be, can anyone help me to see the wood for the trees?  Any assistance greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
Paul

The great frustration is that I would not have attempted to update BIOS had it not been for Liveupdate prompting me to do so and then leading me through the steps.
We usually advice not use MSI Live Update at all.  Flashing a BIOS from Windows is a risky way of flashing and if there is no definate reason there is actually no real need to update the BIOS in the first place.
Now, back to your problem. A few more questions:
- Do you remember which BIOS Version you were using before Live Update attempted to flash v1.8?  Do you have a chance to look at floppy disk on another computer?

The "CMOS Checksum Bad" message and the F1/F2 input request are actually normal after flashing a BIOS or clearing CMOS.

What happens if you press F1 or F2?  Simply nothing or does the system restart as soon as you hit one of these buttons?

Thanks ive been looking forever. . do you have problems going over 480 FSB dont know your specs but I am running e6750@ 3.8 @485  dont know if i can go much higher @8x but when i lower the multiplier to 7 and move above 485 the board wont post  but I know the cpu clocks at 3.8 @485 all the time > maybe this bios will help.. also do you know if the MPS revision 1.1 or 1.4 makes a difference?
You got very got clocks for that 6750. I've tried booting at 500mhz before. No problems passing stability test. In fact Anandtech managet to get this board to 500mhz too.

  • MSI-7345 (P35 Neo2-FR) - No sound from rear panel

    Hello,
I cannot seems to get any sound output from the rear panel jacks on my MSI-7345.  The front headphone jack is working fine.
I have installed the latest audio drivers from Realtek, tried every combination of settings I could conceive ("Disable front jack", "Mute rear panel", etc), and I have tried putting jumpers on the 5-6 and 9-10 pins of the AUD1 header on the motherboard to force output to the rear.  All to no avail.
Windows sees the device just fine.  The jacks are seen just fine by the Realtek Audio Control utility (it notices when I plug and unplug my headphones from each jack).  I even see the "levels" in the Audio mixer activate themselves when I play sounds (and the volumes are all at 100%)... but there is nothing coming out in the headphones.
This is all on a fresh install of Windows 7 64-bit.  FWIW, I can't get any output from the rear panel under Linux either, but *that* could be a driver problem (I have not spent much time troubleshooting under Linux at this point).
Does anybody have a helpful suggestion ?  Or am I simply looking at a hardware failure ?

    Thanks for you reply.
It turns out this is somewhat embarassing: the problem was with the headphones I was using to test the rear panel jacks    I tried another pair and everyting is working well.  I feel so stupid now...
Hey, that's good troubleshooting!  Nothing to be embarrassed about.

  • Dka790gx: liveupdate bios failed, what now

Hey guys, little did i know, but this shay company gave me software that failed to perform its task. The bios update went fun through liveupdate in windows, but when it rebooted it told me the  checksum failed  and now it wont boot into windows. I came here and read about a usb update utility, but it wont let me use it on a secondary computer to ready the update, nor can i get into windows to do it on the computer with the bad bios. Im stuck and a little frustrated, and would like some help from people who might know. Thank you for reading this.

The tool won't run on non-MSI boards.
can still make a bootable usb stick, doesn't have to be made on an msi board
once done, unzip the downloaded bios to it, as it also includes the flashing util
boot from usb, and run the util manually
the following link will let you download the software that will let you make a bootable usb device, no matter what motherboard you use  USB Tool

It's bad news that you may have corrupted your BIOS, even though you used the boot CD update method.
Regardless, you can try all these steps first:
    Computer will not turn on
If nothing above works, see these intructions, and try to work your way through them for your make of BIOS. The BIOS.ROM file they mention, should be on your BIOS update CD.

    Good luck.

  • P35 Neo2-FR not working with G.Skill DIMMs

After searching the MSI and G.Skill tech forums, and not finding a solution to my issue.  I decided to post my situation here.  I have two P35 based motherboard that I was attempting to upgrade the memory to 4GB.  Both are running with 2x1GB DIMMs each, one A-Data and the other OCZ.  I bought a pair of 2GB DIMMs expecting to move the pair of 1GB to the other board and populate the empty board with the pair of 2GB.  However, the Neo2 board/BIOS appear to have issues with the G.Skill memory.
    The memory DDR2 800 (PC2 6400):
    G.Skill 2 x 2GB - CAS Lat: 4 - Timing 4-4-4-12 - Volt: 1.8-1.9 - Model: F2-6400CL4D-4GBPI-B
    A-Data 2 x 1GB - CAS Lat: 4 - Timing 4-4-4-12-2T - Volt: 2.0-2.1 - Model: ADQVD1A16K - EPP ready
    OCZ 2 x 1GB - CAS Lat: 5 - Timing 5-5-5-15 - Volt: 1.8 - Model: ADQVD1A16K - 1.9V EVP
    MSI P35 Neo2-FR Motherboard:  BIOS 1.10; Q6600 and E6750;  PS Antec 380 and Antec 550.
So I am on my 3rd pair (RMA) of G.Skill DIMMs.  I believe I was able to boot off one of the DIMMs of the first pair.  Adding the second DIMM in any remaining slot or booting solo with the other DIMM didn’t post.  After returning that set, I haven’t found another G.Skill DIMM that will boot by itself or paired.  I have tried most of these combination on both motherboards.
However, if I put either an A-Data or OCZ DIMM in an earlier channel/slot.  The system posts, with either a single or pair of the G.Skills in the later slots.  I assume that the BIOS is reading the first DIMM SPD and matching the settings to that.  However, manually setting the SPD and Voltage will also allow the system to POST with the non-G.Skill DIMM in a earlier slot/channel.  Using the manual settings with the G.Skill DIMMs doesn’t POST.  And I have varied those settings across the normal spectrum.  I can use a windows program to adjust the manual timing settings on a per channel/slot basis, but the system has to POST/Boot to get to that.  By POST, I am referring to the Diagnostic LEDs  The failing LED signature is described as “Memory Detection Test – Testing onboard memory size.  The D-LED will hang if the memory module is damaged or not installed properly. “  Maybe I should borrow one of those PCI-Post cards.

Any idea of what the BIOS does in it's first reset cycle after applying power?  It seems that it's sensing the platform and then resets and tries to POST after that.
Found the "double boot" answer https://forum-en.msi.com/index.php?topic=117807.0 although the FAQ link in this thread doesn't work.  Sounds like a link training sequence for the second PCI-E slot.  I was hoping this was DIMM related, but I never observed any changes to BIOS settings after the initial boot.

  • MSI P35 Neo2-FR / FIR

    Hello,
Yesterday my pc didn't start and my motherboard status led were stuck on all green. After I turned off the PSU and turn it on again the leds went to all 4 red. After an hour of powering on and off ( and 1 CMOS reset) it went on red green red red (ram failure).   I kept trying while changing the ram position around but no luck. While doing my attempts I notice that only a few times did the leds blink confirming that the their status changed. Also i noticed that when the leds blinked , the pc fans were making more noise, normal to when the pc is on and working. The other times i noticed that the leds just kept their old colors and the fans were a bit quite than normal.A few times the leds changed from red green red red to all 4 red (cpu failure) and with the fan noise like when pc is working normally.
The day before I had the same problem but I managed to start the pc within the first hour.
Now i'm stuck at all 4 reds with no status change on them and fan noise lower meaning i think that is not getting to the point where is checking the cpu,ram etc.
    PC Configuration:
    - Motherboard : MSI P35 Neo2-FR / FIR BIOS Vs : 1.C
    - CPU : Intel e8400 no OC
    - PSU : Fortron Blue Storm II 500 W
    - GPU : Gainward ATI Radeon HD 4850 no OC
    - RAM : 2x Corsair XMS2-6400 ver 5.4 no OC

    Update:
I removed the battery and reset the CMOS. After 2-3 hours i reinserted the battery and now the status led blink once to red green red red ( ram failure). I had this ram failure problem for a long time but i used to fix it by a CMOS reset or a few movement of the rams and was fine for a couple of months until it resurfaces at random.
I have tried 2 different rams and the same led status show. Also when i press the reset button, in 3 seconds the PC shutdown and restarts. Before yesterday pressing reset was just making the motherboard restart and the leds were blinking once again to show the status change but now no blink on the leds when i press reset.

    Specs new pc:
    Intel Core 2 Duo E8400 3.00 GHz, 1333 MHz, 6 MB
MSI P35 NEO2-FIR (stock bios, not at home so I can't check which bios version it currently has)

    Corsair TWIN2x4096-6400C4DHX PC6400, 800 MHz, cas 4, Kit of 2

    Samsung SpinPoint F1 1TB, 720 Rpm, 32 MB Cache, S-ATA II/300
    Lite-On DVD-RW LH-20A1S S-ATA
Everything on STOCK speeds. (no overclocking)
While building the pc I inserted my DVD-player from my previous pc (IDE interface) and connected it properly to the pc. (jumper on master and connected to the master connector on the IDE cable)
It gave me an error during windows installation that the disk would be corrupted or something similar while the disk was in the IDE drive. Then I placed the Windows disk into the S-ATA Lite-On drive and then it didn't have any problem and continued installation of windows. After installation I noticed windows didn't recognize the IDE player. I checked the bios and it wouldn't show up there either.
Then I inserted two of my IDE harddrives (320GB Maxtor and 120GB Maxtor) and they wouldn't show up on the bios or in windows either.
This all happened 1 week ago.
Today I booted my pc to find out it didn't have any internet/network connection so I thought my housemates did something with the router but soon I found out my pc was the problem. Reinstalled windows to check if it was a driver issue. Nothing helped so now my IDE controller and LAN controller both seem to be broken.
Would this be possible because of an unstable bios version or is my motherboard dying slowly?
    Thanks in advance for reactions.

I highly doubt another IDE drive would work, it's worth a shot though. Might try it tonight when I get home.
About the LAN driver: I installed Windows XP Pro twice, installed all drivers and the hardware manager wasn't showing any unknown hardware. So I guess it's safe to say it wasn't a driver issue since it just stopped working after a week and I didn't change the software or hardware setup in any way.

  • Bios Update Problem P35 Neo2 - MS 7345 V 1.1

    Hello
I've update my board bios because a "hard disk not present" problem and since it I was having several problems:
I'm running Windows XP SP2 and it takes a very long time to start (in bar and loading windows screen).
The major problem I have is when power on the computer it is alwayls showing the red font message that says it was a problem overclocking, so everytime I need to go into setup and to save changes whitout changing anything.
I suspect the bios I've installed is not the right one since the start screen says "MSI Neo Patinum" instead Neo2, but I've used Live Update ... so it should be the rigth one.
Can anybody help me please with this?

    Three important questions:
    1. Which BIOS Version were you using before the update.
    2. Which Version did you update to?
    3. Did you clear CMOS with main A/C power cable removed from PSU after the Update?
    1. I'm not sure what bios version come with the board (my misstake) but it was older than I've now.
    2. I'm actually using AMI 1.10 Build Date: 11/10/2008
    3. Yes I did

The hard disk problem didn't show any more

What kind of hard drive are you using and what port is it connected to?
    WDC WD3200AAKS-00VYA0 (298 GB, SATAII)
it is connected to SATA 5 port acording to Board manual diagram
I've checked hard disk SMART and health and it is ok

    - If you have an IDE/PATA Hard Drive:
.....What kind of cable are you using? (40 or 80 wire)
.....Is there any other drive connected to the IDE cable (how are the jumper settings for each drive (MASTER/SLAVE/CABLE Select)?
    I Haven't IDE/PATA Hard Drive
I will tell you the story:
I bought the computer and I was using the Blue (Marvel) sata port for the hard disk.
Then a normal day I began to have a very low Windows start so I changed the sata plug to a purple one and the problem disappeared.
Then I began to have the same problem again so I changed the plug again but problem was there anyway so decide to update bios to 1.8 version.
The problem come back randomly and sometimes it disappeared just changing the sata port to wich the plug is connected to.
After that I began to have the "No hard disk present" error and I cleared the CMOS and tried several things until it come to work again.
Few time ago I noticed that was a newer bios version, so then I used Live Update to update bios and drivers again.
Now I'm having the "slow" problem again. I'have been trying several configurations and testing programs but I just didn't find anything wrong.
    Edit:
I'm having the first post problem (overcloking message after power on)
I also had a very rare issue few time ago when shutdown the pc: few minutes later it power on by It self !! until I have disabled every wake up event from setup.
I hope you can understand, and thanks again for your help.
    Gabriel.

  • MSI P35 Neo2 (MS-7345) strange BIOS problem

    Hi all,
My first post here - just wondering if someone could help me.
I recently 'accidentally' flashing my bios version from 1.8 to 1.C on my MS-7345 (P35 Neo 2) board, after deciding to install live update. While I know it's often considered a bad idea to flash the bios when everything's working, but I did it anyway. Since doing it I got many many BSODs. I'm running XP Pro 32 bit btw. I got these BSODs mostly when the computer was working hard, but not always. I'd barely be able to do anything sometimes. Occasionally Windows would even crash on start-up.
I made sure that i was running the latest drivers for all my components, peripherals, etc, including motherboard and graphics card. I even reformatted my HDD and reinstalled Windows from scratch just in case it was a virus. However, the problem has continued, and I even got a few BSODs during my reinstallation of Windows XP Pro.
Another thing I tried was reverting back to the old bios version (1.8), but this made no difference, so I eventually returned to the latest 1.C.
I've written down all the error message codes somewhere, though I've currently misplaced the sheet I wrote them on. If you need to know the exact codes I can locate it and add it to this thread. I probably got about 30 BSODs per day. Often they were IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL type ones, but definitely not just that. Each code I got I researched thoroughly to see if I could work out the problem. Some pointed to RAM Failure, some to HDD problems, some to bad Graphics card, some to corrupt drivers. Pretty much anything you can think of, the errors 'blamed'. However, I had a hunch regarding the bios / motherboard.
I eventually discovered (by chance) after re-flashing the bios (which I'm doing in DOS using the suggested AFUD after a reboot) that if I...
    1. Switch on the computer
    2. Enter BIOS Setup by pressing Del
    3. Turn of the boot sector protection (in order to flash bios) and set USB stick to be the first boot device
    4. Boot to DOS from my USB stick and flash the bios in DOS
    5. Reboot
    This is the critical bit...
    6. When when I get the 'Bad checksum, Press F1 to enter BIOS setup or F2 to use default values' PRESS F2 (it won't work if you go into bios setup as this will then require another reboot before loading windows).
    7. Let Windows XP load as normal.
If I follow all the above steps (I discovered this by mistake), the computer is 100% stable. I even tried some burnout tests and played some cpu & gpu intensive games with settings on full to give it a real workout, which previously would have ended up in a BSOD within seconds.
    However....
If I then reboot the computer (or shut down and switch it back on the next day) and let windows load, it will be unstable again, just as before!
In other words, I'm currently having to flash the bios every time I switch on my PC or reboot it in order to get a stable system.
So this problem isn't fixed - but I've found a workaround at least for now.
Incidentally I've tried installing a new CR2032 bios battery, since I thought it might be losing settings on reboot, but this didn't make any difference.
I personally don't think it's actually the BIOS Reflashing that's making it work - just something weird in the bios settings. It's as if 'erasing the checksum' (cleaning out these dodgy bios settings), which forces the PC to load the defaults the next time it boots, is helping. I have to just mention that going into bios set-up and choosing 'Load Fail-Safe Defaults' does NOT help, since the computer reboots when you 'Save Settings and Exit'. It's as if the bios settings corrupt every time on boot, which causes the crashes.
    Does anyone have any suggestions?

To return to the previous bios, just download the one you want and use the forums tool.
    http://www.msi.com/product/mb/P35-Neo2-FR---FIR.html#/?div=BIOS
    >>Use the MSI HQ Forum USB flasher<<
Before you do that, try to boot and enter bios. Hit f6 for optimized defaults save and exit see if the problem persists.

  • P35 Neo2-FR BIOS?

The MSI Global site shows no BIOS updates listed for the P35 Neo2-FR at all; the Neo2 Platinum does show several updates and from other posts here it appears that both boards use the same BIOS.  OTOH it makes me nervous about using a BIOS which is not officially listed for the Neo2-FR.  Is this really just an oversight by MSI?  I wish they'd fix it!

Quote from: Jack the Newbie on 27-September-07, 16:01:48
The P35 Neo2-FR uses the same PCB as the P35 Platinum (MS-7345 v1.x).
That is one of the reason both boards use the same BIOS:
    http://global.msi.com.tw/index.php?func=downloaddetail&type=bios&maincat_no=1&prod_no=1212
Yes I understand that but there is no BIOS update listed here: http://global.msi.com.tw/index.php?func=downloaddetail&type=bios&maincat_no=1&prod_no=1261.  It seems strange to say the least and given the caution one approaches BIOS updates, one has to wonder why?... and what MSI's official position is on this?
    Quote
If you don't have any good reason to perform a BIOS update, stay away from flashing a different BIOS.
I'm well aware of the risks thanks.

    Motherboard: MSI P35 NEO2-FR
    RAM: 2x Corsair TWIN2X 2048MB 6400 DDR2

I start up my computer with only the CPU, graphics card and one RAM module installed, and a keyboard attached to the ps2 slot (using a converter) for simplicity. The problem is that the computer freezes up when the MSI screen comes up, and i cannot get into the BIOS. The LED lights on the motherboard is indicating the state "Testing base and extended memory". And b/c i go straight into the MSI start-up screen i am unable to find out what BIOS version i am running, though i am fairly sure (i have talked with another person that bought the same motherboard from the same shop as me at about the same time, and he is running BIOS v1.8) that it is 1.8 and it is therefore compitable with my cpu. I have also tried several different types of RAM with the same results. I am also very certain that i have all the cables plugged in correctly (have also tried resetting CMOS ALOT of times) but still the same result.
Does anyone have any clue what could be the problem ?

Have a look at the sticker on the BIOS Chip of the board to check the factory BIOS Version.  The following picture shows the location of the chip on your board (it is actually a P35 Platinum, but it has the same PCB as the P35 Neo2-FR):

    CPU: Intel Core 2 Duo E8500 3.16GHz 1333Mhz
If you have an E8500, E0 (and not an E8500, C0) you will need BIOS v1.9 [A7345IMS.190] to have full support for your processor.  You can identify your processor model by checking its sSpec number (on the CPU itself or on the box):
    E8500, C0 ---> sSpec#=SLAPK {Supported since BIOS v1.6 [A7345IMS.160]}
    E8500, E0 ---> sSpec#=SLB9K  {Supported since BIOS v1.9 [A7345IMS.190]}

  • MSI P35 Neo2-FR, Im having WEIRD beeps in BIOS continiously unstopping.

Oh dear lord, i bought a new board and now im having some stupid beeps going off every 3sec in the BIOS, i updated to 1.8 bios and now its going every 1sec, BEEP BEEP BEEP BEEP BEEP BEEP BEEP BEEP BEEP, every time there is a beep the system hangs a bit, i pretty much cant do anything in BIOS and its getting on my nerves. What is causing this? I tried removing all the drives, my cpu fan is connected to molex not to the motherboard though. In windows they go away, a bit when loading windows logo and it hangs the windows logo too for a few times, then all leds go green, before im getting from top to bottom Green, Green, Green, Red, Green

Nothing helps, tried butting a fan into the cpu fan slot, nothing, tryed removing PCI cards, nothing, NOTHING helps, it just keeps beeping and hanging on those beeps in the BIOS. When it gets to windows load screen all is fine, the frick.
EDIT: Allright, the answer to this problem is, go to windows and do a restart from windows, go to BIOS and there is no more beeping. I did a save and exit and rewent to BIOS and still no beeping, then did the shutdown and power on to BIOS and no beeps. So, weird problem but an easy answer to fix it. I think its something to do with the motherboard booting for the first time, it just needed to go to windows and make a restart. Weeeeeiiiiird.
Cya, hope this helpes someone in the future.
