MS-8348A Compatibility - New FW Reqd?

I have an MS-8348A at firmware level 150D which was released to Improve medium compatibility.
The Writer is installed in my Abit SA6R motherboard on the second IDE as the master device with a 12x DVD as the slave both of which are UDMA33 capable and DMA is enabled. CPU is P3-800
My experience is that I am unable to burn CD-R at their top rated speeds.
For example currently I have a batch of DATASAFE Media 80 minute CD-R 48x silver premium. These CD-R fail to write at 48x and sometimes at 40x. I am usually successfull at writing to them at 32x.
I normally have the option to verify after burn switched on in NERO (currently I am on nero version 551015a).
Among errors reported were: Could not perform Fixation, Data verification failed after reporting a successfull burn, Cannot mount the written CD after reporting a successfull burn.
I have had similar experiences with intenso 48x CD-R.
It seems to me that MSI need to do some more work on their firmware to improve media handling compatibility.
I wonder if MSI reads these forums. There does not seem to be much evidence of responses from them.

mosaddique:
I have bought MS-8348 more then a half year ago as a cheap CDRW. I did not expect that it would be able burn all brands of media at full speed, since it is not my first CDRW (nor the second one). I also do not expect, that an upgraded FW would improve the ability to burn better. It has problems with CDRs like Verbatim Colour 40x, Silver Circle 32x, Eximpo 32x, Intenso... On the market there are many others, so IMHO it is not a blocking problem.
About error messages of Nero:
I have a feeling that Nero uses a random generator for error messages. For example with Sirver Circle I have seen a nice collection of messages. Do not ask me, which ones, I have ignored them and burned the CDRs @16x...
If you need a CDRW without these problems, try Plextor or Teac.

  • Finally MS-8348A's new firmare is here, but what does it do?

    The 150D MS-8348A's new firmare is online, but what does it do? Are we suppose to try it and see by ourselves? Does it allows new cd's capacity, better compatibility?
    Snoopo

    I just installed an MS-8345A (took a while to figure out whether I had an A or a B model -- this should be easier to tell).
    It won't read a CD-R made on another computer running NERO 5.  All other CDROMs can read this CD.
    I saw a very new firmware update (1.50) and downloaded it.  Absolutely bad install instructions.  It says to copy the files into the C:\ drive and then run the install program in "real dos" what ever that is.  I move the files to the C:\ drive, booted to a DOS 6.22 system. and WOW DOS can't read an NTFS file on the C:\ drive.  So, I copied files to the diskette, booted to DOS 6.22 and the install went OK, as near as I could tell.  The last message said that my firmware version 140D was updated to version 150D.
    Didn't fix a thing.  Still can't read the CD-R.  The note on the Support Driver Download page said that it was to "improve medium compatibility".  Didn't
    I also had a real hard time getting this CD/RW drive to boot from the Windows XP Home setup CDROM.  Took many tires before it would boot.
    So far I'm not impressed.
    Anyone else tried this?  Anyone else having trouble reading CF-Rs?

    Hi, and welcome to the Palm Community Forums.
    Any new Palm OS handheld (Z22, E2 or TX) or SmartPhone will do it very easily.  You install the new Palm Desktop software right on top of your existing installation.  It will recognize the existing installation and migrate your data.  Just be sure you follow the Upgrade Guide's easy instructions to rename the Backup folder on your desktop.  This thread discusses the upgrade procedure and links you to the Upgrade Guide:

    The 4G model is not availble in HK yet. It says "coming soon" when you read the New iPad promotion page but no other details.
    I'm also interested if anyone has more information on when they are releasing the 4G/3G compatable New iPad in HK.

  • I need to install LabView RT on a cFP-2010, but I only have LabView RT 2012 (need 8.5.1???)

    Hello,
    I have a cFP-2010 module that I got ahold of which has a software problem.  When I got into the module through MAX, I got a message that said there was no software loaded and that the module was operating in safe-mode.  I rebooted the cFP-2010 in user directed safe-mode and reformatted the disk.  According to online documentation, the latest version of LabView RT that will work on a cFP-2010 is LabView RT 8.5.1.  The only version of LabView RT that I have to work with is 2012.  How do I load 8.5.1 on this module to get it working again?  Is there a download available somehwere?  When I go to load software on the module in MAX, there is no option for installing LabView RT... which appears to be what is required.  Thanks!

    Hello mdlund0,
    If you do not have LabVIEW 8.5.1 and LabVIEW Real-Time 8.5.1 installed on your computer, then you will not see the option in MAX to push that software to your device.  In order to optain that software, you will most likely need to contact your account representative.  You can reach the NI customer service line at (800) 531-5066.
    In terms of version compatibility, newer versions of LabVIEW are not supported on the cFP-2010 because of the limited memory available; the older software does not take as much space.  This does not mean that you will be unable to use newer versions, just that the behavior is unsupported and the configuration not recommended.  I would also like to inform you that you can interface with a FieldPoint device without having Real-Time installed on that device.  You can both install software and pull data programmatically without having Real-Time.  Please see these references for more information:

  • What will the Froyo update do for the Fascinate phone?

    I've seen a lot of chatter about the FroYo update, but don't really understand what it's supposed to do for the phone, specifically Fascinate.  It's supposed to "fix" ... what?
    Can anybody shed light on this for me?

    It should improve overall speed, hopefully fix the slow GPS locks, all full flash 10.1, and a few other miscellanous tweaks. Below is the unofficial changelog for the Galaxy S Froyo update which should be similar

  • SBO Error #-111: Failed to Connect to SBOCommon

    I have recently moved my databases to a SQL 2008 server on a 64bit platform. When doing so, I installed the SQL Native Client to support the client access. I can go into SAP/b1 and access everything as I did before. (Previously SQL 2005.)
    When I moved the databases, I went into the Synch Manager to change my settings. I was able to enter my SQL connection information and select my databases, but when I clicked "Try Connection", I get the error message.
    I have seen where others have found that reinstalling the Synch Manager has helped... this did not work for me.
    I have seen where others have deleted items from the TEMP folder... this did not work for me.
    I have also seen where others stated that the 64bit SQL platform is not supported with WebTools. If this is the case, then this is a problem... However, I'm begining to think that this is an issue with the support of SQL 2008.
    Can someone give me some direction to help correct this issue?
    Thanks!

    Ugh... yes that helps, thank you.

  • Reading return values in ArrayBinding situation

    Hi All.
    I'm currently using ArrayBinding to batch insert/update records into a table. I currently have an InOut parameter set that will either set or return the ID of the row depending if it's an INSERT or UPDATE.
    What I'm struggling to do is to actually read the values that come back after ExecuteNonQuery. here is some excerpts of the code:
    OracleParameter requirementId = new OracleParameter("p_id", OracleDbType.Int32, ParameterDirection.InputOutput);
                   requirementId.ArrayBindStatus = new OracleParameterStatus[reqDS.MyRequirements.Count];
    <set up the other params>
    <set up the values in a loop>
    requirementCmd.CommandText          = "PCM_PKG_REQUIREMENT_DAC.USP_SAVE_REQUIREMENT";
                        requirementCmd.ArrayBindCount     = reqDS.MyRequirements.Count;
    requirementCmd.ExecuteNonQuery();
    Now what? I've tried all sorts of ways to get to this but to no avail. My code to get it currently looks like this:
    for (int j = 0; requirementId.ArrayBindStatus.Length - 1;j++)
                             //value = CType(outParameter.Value, Object)(i);
                             requirementToReqVersion.Add(reqDS.MyRequirements.RequirementId,requirementId[j].Value);
    This doesnt even compile but you can see what I'm getting at. I just need to retrieve a value given an index in the array bind? Thanks for the help in advance..
    jk

    In VB.NET, we do something like this:
    Option Explicit On
    Option Strict On
    Dim values() As Object
    ReDim values(versions.Length - 1)     ' expected nbr of returned values
    ReDim identities(versions.Length - 1)
    Dim outParameter As OracleParameter
    outParameter = command.Parameters("NameOfOutParameter")
    CDbLateBinding.GetObjectArrayFromOutParameter(outParameter, values)
    Dim i As Integer
    For i = 0 To values.Length - 1
    identities(i) = CType(CType(values(i), OracleDecimal).ToString, Decimal)
    Next
    ' Separate file
    Option Strict Off
    Public Class CDbLateBinding
    Public Shared Sub GetObjectArrayFromOutParameter(ByVal parameter As OracleParameter, _
    ByVal values() As Object)
    Dim i As Integer
    For i = 0 To parameter.ArrayBindStatus.Length - 1
    values(i) = CType(parameter.Value, Object)(i) ' Option Strict Off
    Next
    End Sub
    End Class
    Looks a bit awkward but works fine.

  • Galaxy S Android 2.2 Froyo update begins to trickle out (update: official)

    I just read this online at Endgadget.com.
      http://www.engadget.com/2010/10/15/galaxy-s-android-2-2-froyo-update-begins-to-trickle-out/Based on breathless reports we're seeing on Twitter and in the XDA-Developers' forums, it would appear that Samsung has just pushed out the official Android 2.2 Froyo update for its Galaxy S as promised. Our Nordic friends are the first to report seeing the build I9000 JPM update in the latest version of Samsung's Kies PC software. It's early days though, so do let your fellow i9000 owners know how it goes in the comments below. List of changes (including GPS fix) listed after the break.
    Update: We've just been handed the official press release for the Andoid 2.2 Galaxy S update. Indeed, Nordic countries get it first (starting mid-October, aka, "now") before it's "gradually rolled out to other European markets, Southeast Asia, the Middle East Asia, North America, Africa and rest of the world." Hey, it takes time to update 5 million handsets.
    [Thanks, Gustav F. and Chong Shau Poh]
    Android 2.2 JPM for the Galaxy S reportedly adds the following:

    Seeing that the At&t Captivate gets its official Froyo tomorrow doesn't help any either. Fascinate is now the only Galaxy S phone stuck on Eclair. I feel your pain, but waiting is all I can do. I'm not quite ready to consider a "root canal" because I'm not very tech savvy. I hope we see something soon.
    you are wrong, the continuum, and I do not believe the mezmerize has it yet, either.

  • IS THIS DEAD TECHNOLOGY?

    We've invested heavily in making OHJ work, and we've had great results. However, powers on high are asking why we're using a technology that eHelp and Oracle seems none too interested in improving or supporting into the future. Is there a development or release schedule that I can point them to? Is Oracle still actively coding and improving this product? If not, what are the possibilities of getting the source code?
    Thanks,
    Jason Holmberg
    EMC Corporation

    We are working on a new branch of OHJ (it will be version 4.2).
    OHJ 4.1 works on JRE/JDK 1.1.8 or later, however OHJ 4.2 will
    require JRE/JDK 1.3.1 or later and will be certified against
    JDK 1.3.1 and JDK 1.4.1. We have been using Java 2 features
    for years through reflection, but we have been required by
    our users to maintain JDK 1.1 compatability. Now the time
    has come where we can require JDK 1.3.1 or later and make
    better use of Java 2 APIs. The first use of this will be
    an improvement in how help is displayed from modal application
    dialogs. Currently, when help is requested from a modal
    dialog, OHJ detects the situation, re-parents itself, and
    shows help in a modal help dialog to avoid being blocked
    by the application dialog. The disadvantage of this is
    that the modal help dialog has be closed before interacting
    with the application dialog. In OHJ 4.2, we will still
    have to reparent the help to a dialog to avoid being
    blocked, but you will be able to interact with the
    requesting application dialog. I know that many OHJ
    users will be glad to have that enhancement.
    Here is a quick rundown of other features coming
    in the OHJ 4.2 branch:
    - Upgrading the topic display to an Oracle-modified
    version of ICESoft's ICE Browser 5.2.3
    - Allowing applications to register callbacks for
    special links in help topics (i.e. a link in the
    help system that launched an application wizard).
    - Providing an example callback that launches a link
    in an external native browser
    - Switching over to a more standard XML Parser
    (perhaps via JAXP) but keeping the current parser
    as an option for backward compatability
    - New Copy and Zoom/Font Size menus
    - Better documentation for building custom navigators
    and embedding OHJ Navigators and TopicDisplays in
    applications
    - Performance tweaking
    - Bug fixes
    First to come will be the modal help improvement and
    the ICE Browser 5.2.3 integration.

  • Can you install Leopard 10.5 on a computer that has XP OS.

    I have a laptop and a desktop that both have XP OS. I want to know if I can load Leopard 10.5.

    Welcome to Apple Discussions!
    No, but you can install XP on a Mac with Mac OS X Leopard.
    http://www.apple.com/bootcamp/
    First off, Apple's license agreement forbids installing Mac OS X on anything but an Apple Macintosh labelled computer. Secondly, those machines use a different firmware than Apple uses most of the time, as well as lack certain optimizations the operating system has for hardware.
    You can get a Mac with XP compatibility new for as little as $600 in the Mac Mini:
    http://www.apple.com/macmini/
    And any Apple Macintosh made since October 26, 2007 can have both a preinstalled Leopard and a self installed XP on them.
    eMachine, despite its name has no relationship to the eMac made by Apple, though those eMacs could only emulate windows. New Intel Macs made since 2006 can virtualize Windows which is much faster than emulation. To read about the differences, see my FAQ*:

  • MSI Big Bang-XPower New Build Compatibility Questons

    I am doing my first build, and do not see several components I have selected (some already purchased) for my new system in the MSI compatibility literature for the Motherboard.  Can someone please advise if any of the below components will cause issues?  I have done much research and believe I am OK, but would like to have confirmation before proceeding.  As an FYI, I will be doing video editing with the new system:
    1.) Motherboard:  MSI Big Bang-XPower LGA 1366 Intel X58 SATA 6Gb/s USB 3.0 ATX Intel Motherboard (purchased)
    2.) Video Card:  MSI N470GTX Twin Frozr II GeForce GTX 470 (Fermi) 1280MB 320-bit GDDR5 PCI Express 2.0 x16 HDCP Ready SLI Support Video Card (purchased)
    3.) OS Drive:  Western Digital VelociRaptor WD6000HLHX 600GB 10000 RPM SATA 6.0Gb/s 3.5" Internal Hard Drive -Bare Drive (purchased)
         (I will also have four 1TB drives in raid "10" - 7200 RPM Western Digital SATA 3.0 Gb/s for data storage, working files, etc.) (to be purchased)
    4.) CPU:  Intel Core i7-950 Bloomfield 3.06GHz LGA 1366 130W Quad-Core Processor BX80601950 (purchased)
    5.) Memory:  This one I would like confirmation on but I believe it will work (I like that it is Cas Latency 7 and know I will pay a few more $ for this):
    G.SKILL Trident+ Turbulence II 12GB (3 x 4GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1600 (PC3 12800) Desktop Memory Model F3-12800CL7T-12GBTDD
    DDR3 1600 (PC3 12800) Timing 7-8-7-24 Cas Latency 7
    Voltage: 1.65V
    Multi-channel Kit: Triple Channel Kit
    Timing: 7-8-7-24
    Model #: F3-12800CL7T-12GBTDD
    Item #: N82E16820231381
    6.) OS:  Windows 7 Ultimate (purchased)
    7.) The other items are fairly straight forward.
    Any feedback on the above will be greatly appreciated, especially the memory.

    I have two follow-up items from the above (one power supply and one RAM):
    1.) I Am between the following 2 power supplies:
    - CORSAIR HX Series CMPSU-850HX 850W ATX12V 2.3 / EPS12V 2.91 80 PLUS SILVER Certified Modular Active PFC Power Supply ($169.99)
    - CORSAIR Professional Series AX850 850W ATX12V v2.31 / EPS12V v2.92 80 PLUS GOLD Certified Modular Active PFC Power Supply ($194.99)
    I am leaning toward the first one, I do not believe the second is worth $25 more - comments???
    2.) I spent another few hours on RAM selection today.  This is driving my crazy...
    I spent time today with Intel concerning RAM for the Intel Core i7-950 Bloomfield - here is a cc of my log (they obviously have only one recommendation):
    You are now chatting with 'Allan'
    Allan: Hello. Thank you for using the Intel Customer Support chat service. We are glad to be of service. How can I help you today?
    sldwaa: I just purchased in i7-950 Bloomfield and am in the process of purchasing the RAM. I have an MSI Big Bang X-Power MOBO and am running Windows 7 ultimate 64 bit. I have read many posts and Intel spec sheets and I understand Intel does not recommend anything other than 1066 / 1.5v VDIMM. Now for my question as I am new to purchasing ram and building PCs.  Here are my questions:
    1.) I am deciding between 1066 and 1600. The most posts recommend 1600.  The obvious alternative is the Intel recommended 1066.  I believe if I do not over clock, 1066 will be the ticket.  If I buy the 1600, then I can only achieve this by over clocking - correct?
    2.) If I buy 1600 and do not over clock, it will perform at 1066 without any negative effects - is this correct?  This is assuming XMP is not enabled.  I will not be a heavy over clocker, but want the capability just in case.
    Allan: the processor supports DDR3-800/1066 at 1.5V
    Allan: no other memory is supported... no matter if the board supports 1600 or even 2000mhz
    Allan: I remind you that the memory controller is on the processor, this is not integrated on the board
    sldwaa: Understood. Follow up question - If I purchase 1066 with the fastest CAS Latency I can find (possibly 7), can I over clock the 1066 (understanding the negative potential effects) or would I still need the 1600 to achieve any over clocking capability?
    Allan: I am afraid I cannot answer that... I cannot comment anything about over clocking
    Allan: you will need to search this information on Internet
    sldwaa: OK - to summarize you only recommend 1066 at 1.5VDIMM. Anything else, I am on my own, including risks of overheating and instability = correct?
    Allan: that is exactly correct
    Allan: Intel recommends DDR3-800/1066 at 1.5V
    That being said, I guess I am between 1066 with the lowest CAS Letency I can find at 3x4GB, or go with the 1600 (I researched and agree 3x4GB is better than 6x2GB).  As intel is against the second, based on what I am reading, I am leaning toward 1066.  If so, can I overclock the 1066 to something higher or is this the max speed?  Help!
