MS-8851 no SBA or Fast Writes?

According to Powerstrip, my 8851 (GF3 Ti200) does not support side band addressing or fast writes, but my 8871 (GF4 4400) DOES.  I checked with a video bios utility and in the 8851 both are disabled in the bios.  Is there a way to enable these?  Is there an updated video bios?
Thanks in advance.

I am surprised neither side band addressing nor fast writes are supported by this card.  It is a fairly recent card, the Ti200.
Is there any way to enable these items on this card?
Thanks.

  • Nvidia fast writes

Well, my problem is with a geforce fx 5600 on a amd64 running nvidia's 64bit driver i only get 2300fps with composite extension. I am using renderaccel and nvagp, but people tell me they seem to be getting twice that. So i was wondering if anyone knew how to force fast writes. My motherboard seems to support (checked the bios, sba and fast writes are enabled), the card seems to support it (check /proc/driver/nvidia/agp/card), but its still not enabled. sba seems to work according to /proc/driver/nvidia/agp/status, but fast writes is disabled. as you can tell i'm trying to squeeze as much out of this card as possible  its overclock by 77mhz...

  • How to disable AGP Fast Write with MSI 875P Neo-FIS2R ??

How can I disable AGP Fast Write with the MSI 875P Neo-FIS2R ? I can't find an option for this in the BIOS !

You wont usually find this option in most MB BIOSES , as the only Option that SOME BIOSES Have is the Option to enable, disable SBA (Side Band Addressing) for the AGP Bus....In order for you to Disable or Enable the FW, You Must have the Option in your Vidio Drivers Controll Panel.....If you have a NVIDIA Card, you Must go to  http://www.guru3d.com  And Download the program "NVHardpage" and then Open the Program and you wil have the Choice to Enable these options and they will then appear in your Vidio driver CP >> "Activate "Coolbitts" (this is NVIDIAS Overclocking Utility) Activate "Harware Options", and then Activate "AGP Options" and finally Activate "Performance Options"........If you have a ATI Card then you must Download one of thier "Tweeking Utilities".......I will Post the Direct "Link" for NVHardpage in a Minute, just say yes to the Lic. Agree. and download......Here>> http://download.guru3d.com/nvhardpage/  ...........Sean REILLY875

as some of u may be aware the 9600 family of cards are very picky about fast writes. In order to run games without lock ups/crashes i must enable fast writes. The problem is that when i do, i get corrupt text, lines around my cursors, video lag etc etc. I recently switch to a barton 2500 that is running a 1.87ghz at 133fsb, before i ran an 1800 that did not have any of these problems with fast write enabled. bios and xp recognixed it as a 2500+ and i have the ratio set to auto and memory set to HCLK. I tried varios drivers for the gfx card and all produced the same results. Also tried all combinations of bios fast write on gfx control panel off, on etc. any ideas?
    TIA

fast write disabled = game willl lock, the 9600 family of cards are notorious for this, i was able to fix my corrupt text and cursor problem by moving the slider under troubleshooting in the ati panel down a notch. in game im still seeing some problems though, hopefully the game specific forums can give me some help. thiis is really annoying because the dam game ran fine with my 1800 i went to the 5.09 drivers on the reccomendation from another forumite.

  • Airdisk - SLOW read speed, but FAST write speed with Leopard 10.5.1?

I've been complaining for a while about my random problems with reading files from airdisk. My solution has always been to relaunch finder and re-mount the airdisk when it slows down.
I just noticed the speed cut down to and when looking at the activity monitor, it's fluctuating up and down and never seems to go past 1.5 to 2 MB/s.
HOWEVER, what I did just notice is that my write speed is consistently 3-4 MB/s with no fluctuation at all. Interference is not an issue, as I'm on N-only mode and in 5GHZ.
Is there anything I can do aside from waiting until 10.5.2? This does this issue in every AEBSn firmware. Thanks.

I experience the same problem (slow read: 2,8 MB/s, fast write: 6,3 MB/s) with my airdisk over a LAN-connection with 10.5.2. I atteched the USB-drive directly to my iMac and then it's the other way around: fast write, slow read (although considerably higher and normal throughtputs so drive is OK).
Anyone having some suggestions? The airdisk is formatted as HFS+ (GUID) with journalling on, Airport firmware 7.3.1 and the most recent updates installed.

  • Nvidia and fast writes

Hii, it seem then when running the sysinfo tool, the Fast writes on my nvidia is disable.
    when running
    cat /proc/driver/nvidia/agp/card
    and
    cat /proc/driver/nvidia/agp/host-bridge
it does say that my card support this mode, I have tried adding to my Xorg.conf the line under section "device"
    Option         "AGPFastWrite" "true"
and still nada, Can some one please help me out here?

Any way, How did you know it? (adding these lines to modprobe)
Where can I read about it?
I've done it waay-back on my previous Slackware installation. modinfo nvidia gave me a hint how to do it. Now, there are guides for it:

It all depends on your specific hardware. I've never had problems with it.

  • Fast Writes Supported But Disabled

I've got a KT4 Ultra (without FISR) and a Radeon 9000 (without Pro).
I've got FastWrites enabled in my BIOS, but every program I use says that it is disabled.
I've tried some drivers and it's all the same.
I've also tried to enable it with smartgart and some tweak programs, but every time I reboot, it is disabled.
(I have to reboot every time I enable this if I want changes to take effect)
    Why does it happen?
Do I have to flash my BIOS  8o ?
    It's all another KT4 problem?
    Maybe it's a Radeon 9000 problem?
By the way, I have the VIA 4.43 Drivers and the Radeon 6166 and 6193 drivers for XP.
    Sorry for my english.

    Hi,
    Have you tried with PowerStrip?
Enabling AGP Fast Write is done by the display card itself. The BIOS actually "facilitates" the display card if it supports this feature.
You might want to contact your Radeon 9000 manufacturer to confirm on this.

  • Enable fast writes 845g msi mobo

just downloaded sisoftware sandra and in mainboard information it tells me that my mobo supports fast writes but they are disabled.  ?(  would this affect video perfomance? and if so how do i enable them?

They are usually enabled in bios or in display properties if they are supported (sisoft sandra is not always right about this).  In some cases the hardware may contain the capability but can not be enabled.  The actual performance difference is measurable in bench tests but may not be noticed in actual use.

  • MSI 865PE-NEO2-FIS2R AGP Speed & fast writes

Does anyone know how to enable either or both of these items I have just purchased an ATI 9800 Radeon and my AGP speed is only 4X and fast writes are not enabled ?

First let me say thanks for your input.
From within my driver tab SMARTGART I have 2X, 4X, 8X it is set at 4X if I slide the slider to 8X it makes me reboot and it's still at 4X.
    I Have a P4c 2.40 @ 3.0 Ghz
    Thermalright SLK-947-U with a 92mm fan
Hercules All In Wonder 9800 SE softmodded drivers turning it into a 9800 Pro
    OCZ PC4000 Dual Channel 4 x 256 MB CL3 DDR EL Memory @ 500Mhz
    4x Maxtor 80GB Hard Drives
If I put the same card into my other computer with an AMD XP3200 on an Asus A7N8X it boots into windows by default at AGP 8X
Any ideas ? I know some motherboards I have had have this option in the bios.

    k thx.

I am assuming here, that it is always on and that turning it off isnt a option via the less than robust bios' that MSI gives us.  That being said, there is a utility called NVMax that allows you to switch it on and off as well as 2x/4x agp, assuming again, that you have a NVidia graphics card.
Try that Emazy, Im curious to see if you get lockups like I do when I check it off.  For me at least, it appears to be on, but greyed out.  Sisoft says that it is capable of fastwrites but not enabled.
As I mentioned before and as Assaf confirmed, the difference is negligeable and in most cases causes to instability.
I think Fast Writes was as big a hype as MMX was. :]
