MS Access availability on Apple Laptops?

I would like to purchase an Apple laptop for work but I rely heavily on MS Access. Ive been reading that it is not available on Apple products. Does anyone know if it will be available anytime in the near future?

Access hasn't been available for the Mac OS at any time in the past, so I doubt that it will be in the future. But you can install Windows on your Mac and run Access in it the same as you do on your Windows PC.

Update: An Apple rep called me today to update the status of my return. I was told that the replacements for the BLACK iPad 2's was still another 3 weeks out (at least) so they offered me a brand new WHITE 16GB iPad 2. I could have that or continue waiting. I opted to go ahead and accept the offer of a new white one. Worst case scenario if I don't like the white one I have buddy that just bought a 16GB black one that he would be willing to swap it.

  • Downloaded word for ipad, can't access itunes from my laptop

I am receiving an error accessing itunes on my laptop stating that the program I downloaded isn't available to download, programs listed is Word and Excel for ipad.
I did download word and excel for my ipad, but why is it impacting itunes on a different device?

    Close your iTunes,
    Go to command Prompt -
(Win 7/Vista) - START/ALL PROGRAMS/ACCESSORIES, right mouse click "Command Prompt", choose "Run as Administrator".
    (Win XP SP2 n above) - START/ALL PROGRAMS/ACCESSORIES/Command Prompt
In the "Command Prompt" screen, type in
    netsh winsock reset
    Hit "ENTER" key
    Restart your computer.
If you do get a prompt after restart windows to remap LSP, just click NO.
Now launch your iTunes and see if it is working now.
If you are still having these type of problems after trying the winsock reset, refer to this article to identify which software in your system is inserting LSP:

  • Hi...i want to know is apple laptops support microsoft products or components.

hi...i want to know is apple laptops support microsoft products or components.

Word of warning.  You can't just buy any microsft product.  It has to be the Mac version, of which for Microsoft office there is one for
    WORD,
    EXCEL,
    POWERPOINT
There is no microsoft application for Mac for PUBLISHER, ACCESS or any others.
How does this take into account the availability of Windows 7 under Bootcamp?  I think your point is that there are native Mac versions of some Microsoft products available. However, any others would need to run under Windows 7 in Bootcamp (or one of the alternative Windows environments).

  • Can't open iPhoto "To open your library with this version of iPhoto, it first needs to be prepared. To prepare the library, use the iPhoto Library Upgrader available from Apple." Doesn't work...

I've tried to open my iPhoto and a message box opens up and reads "To open your library with this version of iPhoto, it first needs to be prepared. To prepare the library, use the iPhoto Library Upgrader available from Apple." I update this and this message continues to pop up. I've even tried to rebuild it, but no matter what I do the same message appears and iPhoto still wpn't open. Can somebody please help me?!

i'm having the same problem with my iMac (Mac OS X 10.7.5) . i haven't really made any updates to it and yesterday when i tried to access the iPhoto library of my MBP (from my iMac) is when problems started. The iPhoto on the iMac initially said I need to install the recent version of the iPhoto. Since I can't find a 9.0 download, I went to buy the iPhoto on the App store.
When I tried to install iPhoto (version 9.4.3) to the iMac, I got this message:
The iPhoto Library Upgrader is a tool that prepares libraries from iPhoto 5 or earlier, so you can upgrade them with the current version of iPhoto. You can download the tool here.
Note: If your library is from iPhoto 6 or later, this tool is not required."
I then installed the iPhone Library Upgrader, but I got the same prompt:
'You can't open your current photo library using this version of the iPhoto. You have made changes to your library using a newer version of iPhoto. Please quit and use the latest version of iPhoto."
I guess this takes me back to square one? I am inclined to buy the iLife on eBay with the iPhoto 9.0 version, but needed to know if this is the case before I unfortunately bite the bullet.

  • What is the recommended virus software for my apple laptop?

What is the recomended virus protection software for my apple laptop?

OS X already includes everything it needs to protect itself from viruses and malware. Keep it updated with software updates from Apple.
A much better question is "how should I protect my Mac":
Never install any product that claims to "speed up", "clean up", "optimize", or "accelerate" your Mac. Without exception, they will do the opposite.
Never install pirated or "cracked" software, software obtained from dubious websites, or other questionable sources. Illegally obtained software is almost certain to contain malware.
Don’t supply your password in response to a popup window requesting it, unless you know what it is and the reason your credentials are required.
Don’t open email attachments from email addresses that you do not recognize, or click links contained in an email:
Most of these are scams that direct you to fraudulent sites that attempt to convince you to disclose personal information.
Such "phishing" attempts are the 21st century equivalent of a social exploit that has existed since the dawn of civilization. Don’t fall for it.
Apple will never ask you to reveal personal information in an email.  If you receive an unexpected email from Apple saying your account will be closed unless you take immediate action, just ignore it. If your iTunes or App Store account becomes disabled for valid reasons, you will know when you try to buy something or log in to this support site, and are unable to.
Don’t install browser extensions unless you understand their purpose. Go to the Safari menu > Preferences > Extensions. If you see any extensions that you do not recognize or understand, simply click the Uninstall button and they will be gone.
Don’t install Java unless you are certain that you need it:
Java, a non-Apple product, is a potential vector for malware. If you are required to use Java, be mindful of that possibility.
Disable Java in Safari > Preferences > Security.
Despite its name JavaScript is unrelated to Java. No malware can infect your Mac through JavaScript. It’s OK to leave it enabled.
Block browser popups: Safari menu > Preferences > Security > and check "Block popup windows":
Popup windows are useful and required for some websites, but popups have devolved to become a common means to deliver targeted advertising that you probably do not want.
Popups themselves cannot infect your Mac, but many contain resource-hungry code that will slow down Internet browsing.
If you ever see a popup indicating it detected registry errors, that your Mac is infected with some ick, or that you won some prize, it is 100% fraudulent. Ignore it.
Ignore hyperventilating popular media outlets that thrive by promoting fear and discord with entertainment products arrogantly presented as "news". Learn what real threats actually exist and how to arm yourself against them:
The most serious threat to your data security is phishing. To date, most of these attempts have been pathetic and are easily recognized, but that is likely to change in the future as criminals become more clever.
OS X viruses do not exist, but intentionally malicious or poorly written code, created by either nefarious or inept individuals, is nothing new.
Never install something without first knowing what it is, what it does, how it works, and how to get rid of it when you don’t want it any more.
If you elect to use "anti-virus" software, familiarize yourself with its limitations and potential to cause adverse effects, and apply the principle immediately preceding this one.
Most such utilities will only slow down and destabilize your Mac while they look for viruses that do not exist, conveying no benefit whatsoever - other than to make you "feel good" about security, when you should actually be exercising sound judgement, derived from accurate knowledge, based on verifiable facts.
Do install updates from Apple as they become available. No one knows more about Macs and how to protect them than the company that builds them.
Summary: Use common sense and caution when you use your Mac, just like you would in any social context. There is no product, utility, or magic talisman that can protect you from all the evils of mankind.

  • New Apple laptops, power cords and batteries

Eventually, my parents' white MacBook is going to wear out and need to be replaced. I am keeping an eye on the discount deals for refurbished laptops on the Apple Store. I may also have to do some business traveling in the future, necessitating that I get a laptop as well for on-the-road computing.
    A few necessary questions:
1: If they order a refurb MacBook Air, where do you go to find an extra AC plug-in cord?
2: Are there any cigarette-lighter-adaptor plug-in kits available for the current generation of Apple laptops, so that a laptop could be operated/battery topped off while in a vehicle or on an airplane?
3: What about connecting to AC power while traveling outside the US? If an Apple laptop user goes to, say, Europe (Germany, UK, France, Denmark, etc.) does he/she have to carry a special connection kit along to plug-into AC wall power?
4: What are the realistic longevity/operational lifespan expectations for Apple's current laptop batteries? How many years should these batteries last, and how expensive are they to have Apple replace?
    Thanks in advance!

    A few necessary questions:

Apple's Online Store or a local Apple retailer.
2: Are there any cigarette-lighter-adaptor plug-in kits available for the current generation of Apple laptops, so that a laptop could be operated/battery topped off while in a vehicle or on an airplane?
Yes there are such animals for cars. I don't know about airplanes.
3: What about connecting to AC power while traveling outside the US? If an Apple laptop user goes to, say, Europe (Germany, UK, France, Denmark, etc.) does he/she have to carry a special connection kit along to plug-into AC wall power?
The power unit auto-switches from 110 to 220 v systems. All one needs is a wall outlet plug adaptor. They are available in Apple's World Travel Kit as well as from most AAA travel stores.
4: What are the realistic longevity/operational lifespan expectations for Apple's current laptop batteries? How many years should these batteries last, and how expensive are they to have Apple replace?
Impossible to say since the answer depend upon usage. All we know is the battery's lifespan is supposedly around 1000 full charge cycles.

  • 2011 Apple Laptop

I purchased an apple laptop in 2011 and tried to get you to replace it or fix it months later after I found out that there was something wrong with it. A few trips into Apple and they did some work. It was the graphics card, which was the issue well it's really shot now. You never did anything to help me even though I bought it with you and bought it on your Credit Card. I just can't believe that this is the customer service someone gets from you and I will never buy something from you again. I'm super disappointed that after 3 years I have to replace or pay for fixing something that should have been dealt with then. I would like an email address of someone on the corporate chain. Julianne (removed per forum guidelines)

    Hello JulianneAngus,
I was disappointed to read that the trouble with your graphics card that was originally repaired by Apple has returned. I, too, have had an Apple iMac that needed repairs both before and after the warranty and it's frustrating to say the least!
While I understand your desire to return your computer during the initial issues, Best Buy only accepts returns for a limited period (currently 15 days from the date of purchase, but likely a different time frame three years ago) and after that time elapses, returns or exchanges are no longer permitted.
Best Buy and Geek Squad are happy to complete repairs on Apple computers both during the warranty and after, though we may ship a computer on your behalf to the manufacturer during the warranty period if that's their requirement. If you have Geek Squad Protection on your computer we will continue to take care of your computer during the full term of the plan. After the expiration of the factory warranty and/or your Geek Squad Protection plan (if you purchased one), repair service is still available through us, but at your expense.
I'm disappointed to read that, even though your computer issues were addressed while the warranty was still in force, this experience may influence your future shopping destination. It is my hope that you will give Best Buy and Geek Squad another chance to win you over one day soon.
I'm very grateful that you took the time to share your experience with us.
    Sincerely,

I have a new ipad which needs itunes 10.7 or later to download my music onto it... but my apple laptop is not compatible with this as it is too old... can i use itunes with this ipad and apple laptop?

To use itunes 10.7 you need to have Snow Leopard operating system installed
    These are the system requirements
    System Requirements:
Mac computer with an Intel processor
    1GB of memory
    5GB of available disk space
    DVD drive for installation
Some features require a compatible internet service provider: fees may apply.
If you can run Snow Leopard you need to purchase it

I got an old Apple G5 shell from Goodwill. I'd like to salvage the Superdrive and use it as an external drive for my Apple laptop. Is this possible, and what cables would I need if so?
    Other info is available:
    Superdrive MFG date: Sept 2009
    Model: DVR-118LBK DVD-R/RW Writer Unit
My Macbook is: Mid-2010, running Mavericks
    Thanks in advance, God bless!

That's a nice Pioneer DVD±RW drive - and an upgraded replacement for the original optical drive that shipped with that G5.  For a finished look, you'd want to install it in an external enclosure for 5.25" IDE/ATAPI drives that converts it to USB connectivity.  Because SATA optical drives have replaced ATAPI drives in recent years, the selection is getting more limited for a new enclosure, although used ones can undoubtedly be found at ebay.  Here's an example of one, although it only features USB connectivity.  You can also find enclosures that have both FireWire and USB connectivity, which for Mac users is beneficial.  Booting the computer (if needed) by a FireWire-connected device is generally more reliable than USB booting.  If this isn't important to you, then a USB-only enclosure would be adequate.  The enclosure will have directions, but essentially all you need to do is plug in the power cable and data ribbon cable and then secure the drive to the bottom plate of the enclosure with the included machine screws.

there's no music in my device (ipod touch) after restoring content because of a software issue. music is available in my laptop's cloud though. how do i restore music in my device?

hi! an error message showed on my device last week and Apple support  helped me restore the software on my device. Syncing went well and all my apps were available after. However, when I looked at my music in my device, it did not contain anything. The songs were in Itunes on my laptop and when I tried to play them they did not play. But, it says music is available for my account in the cloud. When I switched to the cloud, I was able to play my music already. But everytime I synced, the music from the cloud are not transferred to my device. Most of the music that I have are from other sources. How do I download those again to my device? I tried what I did before which was to copy the song from my laptop then edit paste it to iTunes but this did not work like before when automatically it becomes available on my device.
    pls help. thanks!

We are fellow users here on these user-to-user forums, you're not talking to iTunes Support nor Apple.
The security questions and rescue email address is there for account security. If you don't have a rescue email address then contact iTunes Support using the link on the HT5312 page that you posted from.

  • Are there Blip.tv or Twitch.tv apps available for Apple TV?

I'm deciding whether or not to purchase an Apple TV.  One of the deciding factors is access to some of my favored internet shows.  So are there Blip.tv and Twitch.tv apps available for Apple TV.  And if not is it easy to mirror from the apps on my iPad to the Apple TV?

No, these aren't features of the Apple TV.
As for being able to mirror them by AirPlay, some providers block airplay for their apps, you might need to check with the developer exactly what the position is.

  • PC cannot see AE network (but 2 Apple Laptops can)

    Hello,
Recently I purchased AE (well today) and MacBook Pro 10.7.3 running Lion.  Apple laptops can see network and access internet with no problems, however, PC cannot.  I used Aiport Utility assistant for install.  Guide mentions using set up assistant to create a new wireless (seemed to create on initial install).  What am I mssing?  Per set up guide I am to choose "manual set up" from the "base station" menu.  This option is not there.  Getting frustrated if it is an error between the keyboard and my seat.
I did open base station password and located the 63 hexidecimal WPA security key which I added to the PC and it still didn't work.  Kind of hard to tell if the security key is using an "l" or a "1" so maybe I have the wrong security key?
Any help is greatly appreciated as I need to get this going before tomorrow (need wifi for work).
    Thank you in advance.
