Ms Access (like in ECCS) in BCS 4.0?

Hi All,
As far as I understand there are 3 data entry method only in BCS 4.0 which are the data entry layout, flexible upload, and load from datastream.
Many of our subsidiaries do not use SAP, and do not have the connection to SAP, meanings that in this case the flexible upload is the only method available.
The problem is, this flexible upload do not contain the validation rule inside (not like the ms access in ECCS version where the we can embedded the validation into), meanings that the subsidiaries user can send any data, even unbalance data to the consolidation user. In this case, the consolidation user will be very busy just to load the flexible upload and run validation in SAP (then return the file to every user for correction).
In Ms Access ECCS, since the tool has the validation inside, then the checking role is done in subsidiary level before the data is sent to consolidation users. I have sent a message to request the ms access to SAP, but they say that there is no plan to build ms access for BCS.
My question is, is there anyone have this situation? Is there anyone can advise how to overcome the issue?

Thanks for your advise. I guess that's the only way if the SAP can not provide the functionality.
I'm thinking about my latest implementation where all offline users using ms access and when they must upgrade to BCS, they will be upset since the ms access is not available anymore.
Anyway, the creation of custom program in flexible file do not solve all problems since the flat file is not user friendly. They do not want to use the file even we build the custom program inside.
Is there any more method beside data entry layout, read from data stream and flexible upload in BCS 4.0? Is there more method in BCS 6.0?

Feddin,
in EC-CS you have only one consolidation unit object. So if you are dealing with a matrix org then you have to compound for example company code and profit center into a CS unit object. This potenially creates a lot of units and therefore maintenance overhead.
With BCS you can keep the two dimensions separated and all combinations are valid (without the need to create them).

Securing data from dba access , like Credit Card Details

Hello ,
is there any way of hiding CC details from all users in db level except specifc users
enrypting cc data like oracle hashed passwords
for ex,
case (1)
user 1 ( has access to these details )
select acc#,customer_name from cc_details
output : it will show all the details decrypted
case (2)
user 2 : ( doesnt have access )
select acc#,customer_name from cc_details
output : it will show all the details encrypted
both in db level , like using sqlplus or toad
any idea!

In reg's to reading data from datafile, that's where TDE comes into the picture; then no-one can read from data file directly.
There is no user who owns TDE; TDE is enabled on a database-wide level. So the >normal data owner (who is the only who should have full access to his own data with >DBVault) can use TDE to encrypt; no extra privileges needed.I’ve told about the user who is the owner of the database wallet (usually SYS). He can temporary disable encryption, takes the data, then restore encryption.
DBVault and TDE should be the perfect match for 'securing data from dba access , like >Credit Card Details'In other words we have yet another administrator (DV owner) instead of the good old SYS :)
And I have a question: in case the protection with DV of some tables was made from the SYS, can he make (in example) full backup or full export of the data (his ordinary administrative tasks)? If yes, then it isn't protection, if no, then...what?

Same problem if you own it. If upgrade price is $400 every 1.5 year that is same as $16/month. You can choose not to update and version will be same as when you last used it.

Quick answer: EC-CS is on the R/3 platform, while BCS is on the BI platform.

MRP Area tables for MD06 information access like SQ01, DBM logical database

We currently use SQ01 DBM logical database to access MD06 information (tables MDKP and MDTB). The MRP results from the MRP Area are not showing in this query. This implies that the MRP area, MRP results are stored in other tables.
I have reviewed tables (MDLV, MDMA, MDLG, DVER, MDIP) from a similiar thread. However, they do not contain the MRP data (planned orders, stock, production orders ect) like in the DBM logical database.   This data access is very powerfull for exporting planning data for more robust analysis.
Any help is much appreciated.

SAP GRC 10 - PSS Access from SAP ECC System

I have configured Password Self Service in GRC System and is working perfectly fine for all password resets if access provided to NWBC from GRC System.
We have requirement to provide end users to reset password using SAP ECC System only. I have tried to access NWBC using SAP ECC System but is giving me error that Menu not configured or roles not assigned.
Currently Maintain Data Sources is configured as below
User Search Data Sources , User Detail Data Sources & User Authentication Data Sources set to ECC Connector and End User Vertification Set to yes.We are not using LDAP / Active Directory for the User Search Database and instead ECC Only
Can anyone provide the roles to be assigned in SAP ECC System to access NWBC - Password Reset .

In support to Colleen's comments, It seems that you have not configured the USER on the End User Services. You need to make sure that the guest user (not available in GRC) is configured in each of the 10 services in SICF for the end user Login Pages to work.
Here are the 10 required services to be activated:

If the user is not present in GRC system then, they have to go with end-user-logon page to reset their passwords where you can always define the user authentication configurations.

The main difference is that you don't have to pay additional licence fees for R/3 EC-CS, because it is part of R/3. As long as you didn't buy mySAP ERP or the mySAP Business Suite you would have to buy an additional SEM license to use SEM BCS.
As far as I know, R/3 EC-CS offers all necessary functionality for consolidation and is a sophisticated product.
But in the end, SEM BCS will be the path to the future, even if the implementation might be not so easy today.

If possible, replace the parameter [Search_your_day_Please] with a reference to a text box on a form:
[Forms]![NameOfForm]![NameOfTextBox]
The form has to be open when you use the query.

Accessing External List that uses BCS with CAML Query

I have an external list that uses BCS to sql server. I can view the list with Lists.asmx web service GetLlistItems. However, I get an parameter error when trying to add to the list with UpdateListItems. I will be changing over sharepoint lists to sql
tables using BCS to connect to them and I need it to be seamless to clients that do CRUD operations using CAML. Are there any instructions on creating such an external list that maintains compatibility with ordinary sharepoint lists?

CRUD options are fine.
Here's what I've done.
Created ECT.
Created Read list & read item options.
Set a limit for 200 items (for testing purposes only)
Created external list based upon ECT created above.
Opened external list in web browser and I'm able to open, edit & add items without issue.
What I'd like is to have a simple HTML type form above the list (like in a Content Editor web part with a few text boxes and a 'search' button. I've tried the link below but it either crashes Sharepoint Designer when I'm defining the parameters or
if it works there the button doesn't work.

Investee Unit level data from ECC to BCS

Hi All,
I have a question about intergrating BCS with ECC.
For Investment FS items we need to have Investee unit as a breakdown. When data is integrated with ECC, how is the Investee unit data populated.
Is there a field in ECC for investee unit?
For inter unit elimination, there is trading partner in ECC. Likewise can you tell me what is there for Investee unit?

Yes, there is no concept of investee in ECC. Only a field called Trading Partner.
So, in ECC, to record the information regarding the "investee" information, you actually use the trading partner. Then, as Dan explains, you need to mapp in the BCS data collection method the trading partner field to the investee field. This can be done using conditional mapping : "if the account = investment account, mapp source = trading partner to target = investee"

To work as a Developer , i.e. to write ABAP programs you need developer access key from SAP. This pop up message for Access Key you will get for the first time. Once you enter that Access key, it will get stored in DEVACCESS table against your user id. Next time onwards, it will not ask for Access key.
How to get DEVACCESS key?
You have to register your user id in Service MarketPlace. You can ask your Basis team member to register your user id there.

To install, you need not to have access key. You can install directly. I think you may require installation number, Your vendor must have given the Installation number.
