MS Explorer on Macs

Ok, so I never knew how poorly coded WIn machines were until
I got a Mac. But its not only that just look at one of their main
sites:
http://www.msnbc.msn.com/
Viewed on any PC or any Mac running other than Explorer will
yield a "normal" result. But for Mac users who have Explorer please
take a look. It will surprise you at how poorly it's done.
I will try in the next few days to provide a picture.
If this can happen to MSNBC... How can we make sure this does
not happen to us?

IE/Mac *was* a great browser back in the day. Now it's a
woefully out of
date browser. The ugly step child.
To make sure it doesn't happen to you, just be sure to test
your sites in
IE/Mac.

  • INTERNET EXPLORER FOR MAC GUYS.

    Hello,
Internet Explorer for Mac is no more compatible with OSX Lion.
Does this means no more Internet Explorer for Mac?

Many apps like IE for Mac stop working on Lion plus there can't even be standalone GCC installed.
Current version of the cross-over?  Do you really believe that IE 9 is an accurate representation of IE for Mac?  That would be the equivilant of IE 5 (not even 5.5) for Windows.  And in 2003 when IE for Mac was discontinued, it was done so because at that time both Firefox (at the time known as Phoenix but later changed due to copyright claim), and Safari for Mac were out.  All of those browsers and later iterations can run on those old computers.  And as far as browsers go, I don't think you will find many compatibility issues in code because I don't know of any modern browsers whose rendering engine broke as a result of the Lion upgrade.

There is no Internet Explorer for the Mac, only for Windows.
    Windows on Intel Macs
There are presently several alternatives for running Windows on Intel Macs.
Install the Apple Boot Camp software.  Purchase Windows XP w/Service Pak2, Vista, or Windows 7.  Follow instructions in the Boot Camp documentation on installation of Boot Camp, creating Driver CD, and installing Windows.  Boot Camp enables you to boot the computer into OS X or Windows.
Parallels Desktop for Mac and Windows XP, Vista Business, Vista Ultimate, or Windows 7.  Parallels is software virtualization that enables running Windows concurrently with OS X.
VM Fusionand Windows XP, Vista Business, Vista Ultimate, or Windows 7.  VM Fusion is software virtualization that enables running Windows concurrently with OS X.
CrossOver which enables running many Windows applications without having to install Windows.  The Windows applications can run concurrently with OS X.
VirtualBox is a new Open Source freeware virtual machine such as VM Fusion and Parallels that was developed by Solaris.  It is not as fully developed for the Mac as Parallels and VM Fusion.
Note that Parallels and VM Fusion can also run other operating systems such as Linux, Unix, OS/2, Solaris, etc.  There are performance differences between dual-boot systems and virtualization.  The latter tend to be a little slower (not much) and do not provide the video performance of the dual-boot system. See MacTech.com's Virtualization Benchmarking for comparisons of Boot Camp, Parallels, and VM Fusion. Boot Camp is only available with Leopard or Snow Leopard. Except for Crossover and a couple of similar alternatives like DarWine you must have a valid installer disc for Windows.
You must also have an internal optical drive for installing Windows. Windows cannot be installed from an external optical drive.

  • Is there internet explorer for mac?

Is there Internet Explorer for mac?

If the developers of the site insisted on using Microsoft-proprietary technology such that the site requires Internet Explorer, then your only solution will be to run Windows on your Mac, either via Boot Camp or one of the virtualization solutions (Parallels Desktop, VMWare Fusion, or VirtualBox) so you can run the Windows version of IE. There is no IE for Mac any more, hasn't been for years, and almost certainly is not coming back.
I run Windows on my system and it works fine; no "pollution" has occurred. In circumstances like this, it's often the only, or at least optimal, solution.
company who makes the program now has a iPad APP.  Why put the money into an app but not have it available on safari.
You'd have to ask that company that question. It seems odd to me as well, but they obviously have a business reason for their decision.

I am responding to the second post questioning "Why do you want to do this?"
I am a new Mac user and have just encountered a third part software that does not appear to be supported through Safari; thus I am receiving the following message when I attemt to log onto the system:
"Our system currently supports the following browser versions: Internet Explorer 9, Internet Explorer 8, and Firefox 4 through Firefox 7. We have detected that you are using an unsupported browser. While you still may be able to use the system, depending on the browser, it is possible that you may run into technical issues that we cannot support. Please consider installing one of the browsers listed above to improve your experience with our system."
Bypassing this message only yields a Server Runtime error.
Why don't you just download Firefox, 4 through 7 are supported, or if you insist on using Internet Explorer, use Windows.

  • How or where do I download Internet Explorer for Mac OS 10.7.5?

How or where do I download Internet Explorer for Mac OS 10.7.5?

Internet Explorer is only supported on Windows, so you can't use it on OS X. There are a lot of browsers like Safari, Firefox or Chrome for Mac, so try them. If you need Internet Explorer, you have to install Windows on your computer. See > https://discussions.apple.com/docs/DOC-3321

  • Where/How do I get Internet Explorer for MAC OS 10.8.2?

Where/How do I get Internet Explorer for MAC OS 10.8.2?

Unfortunately no, you can make a change in Safari to allow it to appear to be IE to the website but if any Windows specific services (such as Active X) are needed it still won't work.
If you absolutely must have IE you should install Windows, preferably in a Virtual Machine, like Parallels.

  • Explorer for mac

Hello - I have been using Explorer for Mac for some time for certain websites that are not Firefox or Safari friendly.
In the last few days i installed Microsoft office for mac and now Explorer will not load up.
Can anyone please let me know if they know the reason for this.
    Many thanks..

    You're Welcome demystifyme!
I'm happy that worked for you!
Whenever an application acts up, the first ting I always do is to delete it's preference files.
I never use Explorer, but I like to keep it installed in case no other browser will load a site, and also for testing purposes, as your Topic provided me.
And I also Thank You, for extending the courtesy, of awarding in Discussions, as this is not a requirement, nor mandatory, but is much appreciated!

  • Google crashes Internet Explorer and Mac OS

From about 8 June 2007 google.com searches have consistently crashed Internet Explorer on Macs. This happens every time with Internet Explorer 5.1.7 on OS 9 and Internet Explorer 5.2 on OS X. The situation for OS 9 is particularly serious as often the OS also crashes. Repeated crashes of this type can damage disks.
Many UK users will not have noticed this bug as google.com has recently started redirecting to google.co.uk but, unless fixed by Google, these crashes will be with us for a long time especially for Google forms on non-Google sites and historic URLs.
You can try this for yourself with the following links:
    1. http://www.google.co.uk/search?q=googlecrashesie
    2. http://www.google.com/search?q=googlecrashesie
At the time of writing link 2 will lock up Internet Explorer every time. It appears that the problem is restricted to Macs - perhaps because versions of Internet Explorer beyond 5.x are not available for either OS 9 or OS X. Many webmasters do not appreciate that there are still many users who prefer to use this old browser particularly on old Macs that are too slow to mount OS X. There are still a lot of these around (including early iMacs) used as second or home Macs.
Whilst one or two crashes are unlikely to do any significant lasting damage repeated crashes on OS 9 followed by the necessary forced quits can cause unpredictable and significant loss of disk data.

On the OS 9.x side, you should try other browsers:
    Mozilla v1.3.1(Wamcom)
    Netscape Browser Archive
    Netscape v7.0.2
    MacUpdate-NC v7.0.2
    iCab v3

  • Preview in browser internet explorer for mac

I use a Mac running Leopard and use Safari as my web browser.
When I try to "preview in browser" in DW, Internet explorer is not
available. Can I run it on mac and where do a get a compatible
version--and preferably without spending a lot of $.

internet explorer for the mac hasn't been supported by MS for
years. Honestly, it's not worth even looking at it.
To view your work in IE for win users, consider getting
something like VMWare Fusion or Parallels or just simply using
BootCamp (which comes with Leopard), to install Windows XP/Vista
    onto your Mac.

  • Browser similar to Internet Explorer for Mac?

I've got on-line training for work that I can do from home, but the site is not fully compatible with Safari. Its good in some windows, but in others its bad enough that I can't actually do the work. The application says it requires Internet Explorer. My question - is there another browser for the Mac that may more closely match Internet Explorer that I could try?

    Hi
It depends what "requires Internet Explorer" means. If it relies on Windows-only DirectX features, then you won't be able to get it working from the Mac OS no matter what browser you use. If you have an Intel Mac, you could install Windows via Boot Camp, Parallels Desktop or VMWare Fusion and run IE from there.
If it's more a matter of appearance, and the site relies on IE's (frankly, awful) web standards interpretation, then you might try Firefox or Camino and see if they serve you better.

  • Internet Explorer for MAC

I need Internet explorer for my work online catalog, does IE work on Snow Leopard? What's the latest version? Thanks Alex

I've always ask to myself why Mac people are so bitter about Microsoft.
If you're saying this because of my comments regarding IE, it's because IE is well-known for not following established web standards. Among web designers, there's a saying used like a curse word: IDWIMIE. What does it mean? It Doesn't Work In Microsoft Internet Explorer. Web design would be so much simpler if IE just curled up in a corner somewhere and died.
Not all the softwares have to run in every browser out there.
Actually, the point of the web is that all web pages and web apps should work in every browser. If a "web app" only runs in IE, it's no more a web app than a Photoshop plugin is. It's a dynamic Internet Explorer plugin loaded over the internet as needed.

  • How or where can I obtain, purchase or download Internet Explorer for Mac?

I need to run a program on Internet Explorer. Where can I obtain, purchase or download IE for my Mac desktop computer?

Running IE in a virtual environment would be an option.
Software like VMware Fusion or Parallels do the trick.
But you would need a valid Windows license or just run a limited demo for a couple of days.

  • Where can I download internet explorer for Mac?...

    thank you.

Microsoft never developed Internet Explorer 6 for the Mac platform. The latest version I believe was 5.2.
So in other words, you need a Windows based computer to view that site or AOL 9.

Edit: Since you're using Panther and IE was still bundled with the Panther install discs (I'm almost positive), pop in the Panther install disc and see if you can find it on there through the use of Pacifist, if necessary.
