MS Media Player 10 WMA Support W

My Nomad Zen doesn't play the latest files I rip with the new Media Player version 0.
[Windows Media Audio 9. - VBR Quality 90, 44 kHz, stereo -pass VBR]
Is this a problem with my unit or do I need a firmware upgrade to support this?
If this is a firmware issue, Is there any hope for a firmware upgrade?

<SPAN>I have a similar problem, but at least I can play the files I encode on my Zen Xtra. I have isolated the cause to the <SPAN>Windows Media Audio <B>9.</B><SPAN> codec. I can literally encode any WMA file at any compression rate (92, 256, 320 kbps ? CBR? etc) and the track length error is repeated (Read below for more info?)
<SPAN>Here?s the link to my thread: http://forums.creative.com/creativel...id=27390#M7053
<SPAN>Which says this...
<SPAN><"I am having problems with tracks encoded as Windows Media Audio <B>9. </B>? CBR 320 kbps, 44kHz, 6 bit, stereo single pass using Adobe Audition .5 (in this instance ? though this problem occurs with various other WMA encoding programs such as Audio Conversion Wizard .65).
<<I><SPAN>These encoded files play fine on my pc using Windows Media Player 0 (or any other player) indicating a correct track length, but when these files are copied to my Zen Xtra (60GB) the track length display incorrectly. There is no problem with the mp3 equivalent - encoded CBR 320 kbps, 44kHz, 6 bit, stereo ? which work perfectly on both my pc and Zen Xtra.</I><SPAN>
<<I><SPAN>In detail - a 74 minute continuous play track may display as 2m 24s (depending on the file, the track length always varies) and as such I can only fast forward to this extent. If I was listening to say, 37m 24s on this track and depressed the fast forward button, holding a second or two, and then let go, it would jump back to 2m 24s despite indicating say 45m 37s. A nightmare!</I><SPAN>
<<I><SPAN>I could understand that there may be a problem ascertaining the correct track length on a VBR file but these are CBR.</I><SPAN>
<SPAN><<EM>Any ideas or suggestion are welcome?"</EM>

The Jukebox Zen will enter the Recovery Mode and the following options will be displayed:Clean Up (Performs a disk scan on the players hard disk)Format All (Formats the players hard disk - Note: all contents will be lost) Reload OS (Reloads the Operating System on the Jukebox. After a clean-up, if you reboot, a symbol with the message "Re-building Library" shows up before normal functioning (depending on the amount of songs on your Zen, it might take a few minutes to rebuild the library). After doing a Clean Up, do download and install the latest firmware update for the player from our website at the following link.<SPAN><FONT face="Swis72 BT" color=#ff0000>http://us.creative.com/support/downloads/<FONT face="Swis72 BT" color=#ff0000>Under Product Type, select MP3 Players, followed by Zen (Hard Disk Dri've/ Micro) and then select NOMAD Jukebox Zen Xtra. • Media player that supports arbitrary tag fields

I'm looking for a media player, along the lines of Rhythmbox or Amarok, that supports sorting/grouping/editing of arbitrary metatag fields.
I'm finding the standard Artist/Album/Title setup a bit limiting for my library.  For my purposes (academic - critical listening and comparison of classical music), I need to have tags for the composer, piece, movement, conductor, performer('s), publisher, album name, publication date, and recording date.
Vorbis comments work well for this, as they allow arbitrary field names.  But, to my knowledge, none of the music players make use of this degree of freedom.
    Any suggestions?

Quod Libet & its companion Ex Falso tagger should work (in the repos). I successfully added the arbitrary tag "sub-genre" using the preferences dialog; both the Quod Libet player and library handled those tags just fine.
    http://www.sacredchao.net/quodlibet
The "sub-genre" tag was originally added to files (FLAC, Ogg, MPC, MP3) with MP3Tag and played / displayed in Foobar2000 on Windows ... both of these apps are really the holy grail of flexibility that you are looking for, but Linux has nothing closely approximating them, especially Foobar2000 (I think there is a wine tutorial for Foobar2000 on HydrogenAudio forums, but if you've not had experience with Foobar under Windows, I'm not sure I'd want to start out with it on Linux/Wine.
Anyway, the underlying mutagen metadata handler used by Quod Libet and Ex Falso is what allows their flexibility in handling tags, and it is available in other players as well, including Listen and Exaile. Unfortunately, from what I can tell, neither Listen or Exaile implemented much of the power of mutagen (at least I couldn't see that arbitrary tags could be added / displayed), plus Exaile is buggy as h*ll in my experience. The biggest problem I have with all these players that I have mentioned (including Quod Libet) is that they are python apps, and I have a thing about (against) python apps. They are really resource hungry, and even though I have plenty of power to spare, I just dislike the concept of having to run an app to run an app, so to speak (as is the way python and java, which I also dislike, work). But, sometimes you have to suck it up.
So, give Quod Libet a try if you've gotten anything positive out of what I've said (beyond my python bias, Quod Libet is good and pretty popular). I'm not currently using Quod (I'm using MPD + gMPC, and it doesn't handle arbitrary tags either), but I may give Quod another chance at some point just for the tag handling.
Someone else may know of another solution, and if so, we'll both learn something useful.

  • When in firefox, I get a message that says no version of windows media player is supported. When I euse internet explorer with the same website, no error occurs. Why?

I am working in the H&R Block website. When I get ready to take a test in their system, I get that error message described above. If I exit Firefox and use internet explorer instead there is no problem.

Let's try a standalone Apple Mobile Device Support install. It still might not install, but fingers crossed any error messages will give us a better idea of the underlying cause of why it's not installing under normal conditions.
Download and save a copy of the iTunesSetup.exe (or iTunes64setup.exe) installer file to your hard drive:
    http://www.apple.com/itunes/download/
Download and install the free trial version of WinRAR:
    http://www.rarlab.com/
Right-click the iTunesSetup.exe (or iTunes64setup.exe), and select "Extract to iTunesSetup" (or "Extract to iTunes64Setup"). WinRAR will expand the contents of the file into a folder called "iTunesSetup" (or "iTunes64Setup").
Go into the folder and doubleclick the AppleMobileDeviceSupport.msi (or AppleMobileDeviceSupport64.msi) to do a standalone AMDS install.
(If it offers you the choice to remove or repair, choose "Remove", and if the uninstall goes through successfully, see if you can reinstall by doubleclicking the AppleMobileDeviceSupport.msi again.)
Does it install (or uninstall and then reinstall) properly for you? If so, does your device connect without that message now?

  • HD Media Player OSX Support

Wasn't sure exactly where to post this.
    Can someone please help!!!!!!!
I have an Apple G4 Powerbook running 10.5.8
I bought an Astone AP-360T today and updated the firmware on it, but i cannot copy any files to it from my mac, nor is it recognising any of my USB drives.
It has a WD (advanced format) 2TB inside it, which was formatted using the AP-360-T.
I do not have a network or wireless capabilities, just the PC Link cable – which is seeing the HDD but it is read only.
    Please help!

When I first bought it I connected it to my mac and formatted the drive as Mac OS Journaled, but when plugged back into the TV it did not recognise the internal drive any longer....
What would I format it to? Only option in Disk Utility seems to be MS DOS (FAT) – is that any different to NTFS?
Sorry I not completely useless, but not very technical either!

  • Ugrading Media Player security needs codec

To use OverDrive Media Console, I am attempting to upgrade Windows Media Player security to 2.5.0.1 and I get a message that an audio codec is required.  Any idea what codec I need or how to get what is needed?

    Hi,
Here is a detailed article to describe Windows Media Player Codec:

  • Best overall media player for Tiger?  Need WMA support!

Alright well a few short months ago before I bought and fell in love with my Mac, I ripped my entire collection to WMA. Now that all I use is mac, I need to listen to them and the windows media player has super limited functionality and Itunes, which i love, doesn't play WMAs? So, what should I use? I want to make playlists and all that crap but I cna't with either! Help!

Using Quicktime Pro you can edit some audio settings. You can manage the Quicktime documents themselves in the Finder to create pseudo playlists if you use the folders of the Finder, and the naming and aliasing of the documents ordering of the Finder to manage the order songs appear in. Granted, not the most elegant of solutions, but a temporary one until you do have MPEG-3 support. You may find other WMA programs on http://www.versiontracker.com/ or http://www.macupdate.com/ with additional support.

  • Tried borrowing ebook fr. Public library but cannot download the book 'coz my ipad2 is not wma supported. I downloaded the overdrive media console but still cannot get the ebook.

How to download ebook fr. Public library? Tried downloading but ipad2 is not wma supported.

Note comment about Macs and MP3 in intro below.
Many libraries worldwide now use Overdrive Media Console, which comes in Mac an Windows versions http://www.overdrive.com/Software/omc .  Some find the mobile device transfer process confusing.  To load or delete a WMA or MP3 (Macs can only download MP3 books) audiobook onto an Apple mobile device see the "How to Transfer to a Portable Device" video in the guides at Step 7, then do the following.
    1. For Windows versions, you must first do a security update of Windows Media Player (even though you won't be using it) using Internet Explorer at http://drmlicense.one.microsoft.com/indivsite .
    2.  Open iTunes, plug the mobile device into the computer USB port and open the Overdrive Media Console.
    3. Highlight the mobile device in the left hand menu of iTunes and insure the "Manually manage music and videos" box is checked in the Summary Tab.
    4. Highlight the book you want to transfer in the Overdrive Media Console and click the Transfer Button.   A window opens permitting you to click the boxes for parts of the book you wish to transfer.
    5. After the book has been transfered, when you click the disclosure triangle (arrow) to the left of the iPod, iPhone, or iPad in the Device section of the left hand menu of iTunes, MP3 books will show up under the Music subsection and WMA books will show up in the Books subsection.  Once the mobile device is disconnected from iTunes, MP3 books will show up in the Songs list of the mobile device and WMA books will show up in the Books list.
    6. To remove a book from a mobile device plug the device into the USB port and open iTunes. Click the disclosure triangle to the left of your iPod, iPhone, or iPad in the Device section of the left hand menu of iTunes so that you can see the device’s subcontents. For an MP3 book select the Music subsection, right click on the book and choose Delete.  For a WMA book, select the Book subsection, right click on the book and choose Delete.
    7. The Overdrive Media Console Guided Tour (videos) is at http://www.overdrive.com/Solutions/Libraries/tour/MenuWelcome.html .  The "Portable Devices" and "How to Transfer to a Portable Device" videos are there.
    8. To find a nearby library for ebooks search http://search.overdrive.com .  You can download the software, search for books and see tutorials without an account at the website of any library that uses Overdrive, however, you need a library card to download books.  At this library site, for example, the software and guided tour are at the bottom of the left hand menu.

So I need a media player for Mac that has both Speed Controlers (so I can slow down the audio to transcribe them) and can open .wma audio files. Please! I really hope there is a way out of this, thank you very much!

Windows Media Player cannot play the file. The Player might not support the file type or might not support the codec that was used to compress the file
    How do I fix this?

That would probably be a question best taken up in on a site for Windows support questions. Not knowing anything about the movie you're trying to play, all I can suggest is to confirm that the format of the movie you wish to play is supported in your version of WMP. If it isn't, you'll either need to convert the movie or use some other player software.

  • How to convert WMA files (from Windows Media Player) to play in iTunes

How do I convert WMA files (from Windows Media Player) to now play in iTunes?

Use Edit > Preferences > General tab > Import Settings to set your desired import format and bitrate. Note there is no point converting 128k wma into 320k mp3, you'll just get bigger files with no improvement in quality. Once you have set your import settings just drag & drop the files you want converted into iTunes.

What output formats support the play speed settings on a PC using windows media player?
Here is my need. I need to take my video clips with me on my small PC and view them at slow speed. My playback PC is small and a little slow, so I cant have a very high bitrate. It uses an ATOM processor. It uses windows media player. I noticed the slow playback option is available in some formats when opened with windows media player, other formats--feature not available. What are the best output settings to save my clips on my small PC?

Just to add a few details:
    As stated, WMP 11.0.5xxx

    Intel Core2 Quad 2.66GHz
    RAM = 4GB
Graphics chip = nVidia GeForce 8800M (recent, but not latest nVidia driver)
