No help there so I did reformat the hard drive and put everything back in again. The office program from the original CD etc, etc. Now everything works fine, but what a pain.
Thanks to all for your inputs.

I have a 27" iMac(late 2012) 16gb memory and 3.2 ghz i5 processor. I upgraded from Mavericks to Yosemite yesterday and my computer has crashed 4 times since then. Black screen, apple message, then restart. What's wrong with the new OS?

Johnny, i run OS X 10.10 on a 5 year old iMac. No bugs worth mentioning. We also have a MBA 2013. No bugs. The problems people encounter are mostly caused bij third-party apps or unsupported hardware. I've seen many upgrades of OS X coming by. And it's always the same story. people install the new OS X as soon as possible, not wondering if their hard- and software is up to it, in may cases not even bother to make a decent backup, just in case something goes wrong.
ANd then they find themselves in trouble after install. They conclude: the new OS wasn't ready for launch. The facts: These users weren't ready for launch.
i Suggest we focus here on helping the TS in finding the cause of his crashes. The fact you have (different) problems too is not helping rprietz in any way.

  • Premiere Elements crashes after 2 min. what's going on?

I've been working with Premiere Elements about a month now. Initially it was very slow so I upgraded my memory and used Adobe's advice for optimal playback. That seemed to clear things up. However in the past couple days it will crash after about 2 minutes of being open. It never fails. Sometimes it will give me an error message and other times it will just freeze.
This is the error I'll sometimes get:
Any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

    Here are more details:

I've also attatched the DxDiag text file.
I haven't found any errors today, even though it has crashed several times, but I did find this error from last Friday (when all this crashing started happening):
These are the codecs for my file:
Here's the screenshot of my project:
Once I open that project, it has crashed within two minutes of it being open, even if I don't do anything. I don't have any special effects besides the titles. All I've been doing with this project is rearrange files within the timeline. So far I haven't had problems with other projects or files, but my other projects are under 1 minute and I have spent the majority of my time on this project and file.
What happens is the program sometimes just freezes (and I've let it sit to see if it would unfreeze itself, that works only about half the time). Other times it just shuts itself down with no error message. I've also received these two errors:
If I get the "Project Save Error" and I try to save it somewhere else, it still gives me the same error. The only way I can get out of that error is to shut down the program without saving.
This is what I've done so far:
Installed Windows updates (all critical updates installed except for Microsoft Office 2003 Service Pack 3)
    Updated QuickTime
    Cleaned up start-up programs
    Turned off indexing
    Deleted temporary files
    Ran system virus scans
    Defragmented my C:\ drive
Set priority level for Premiere Elements to AboveNormal.
I save all of my files directly onto my computer (not the network drives)
    Any other suggestions?

  • HT4650 my safari keeps crashing on my iMac. anyone know why. this keeps happening after 10 seconds or so. any ideas?

SAFARI keeps crashing on my Imac.
I have checked for virus software and appear to have none.
I have checked the automatic safari address that loads, which mysteriously had a ,http/ with a coma infront of the default website address to load on safari. I have changed this so the default website is back to apple without the , before the address.
Can anyone suggest what I do next. I keep getting an error message after 3-10 seconds.

And have you loaded any optimizers/add-ons/accelerators/anti-malware tools/etc or similar?
Any (free or paid) product that was advertised as helpful?
    Any Safari extensions loaded?

  • Safari slows and crashes on old imac

I have an 8 year old imac with a problem that I think might be caused by adobe flash player. I spoke to the people at Apple's technical help line and they said it sounded like something with adobe flash player.
The problem seems to have 2 symptoms.
One is that safari keeps crashing. It seems to happen a lot when watching videos or any page with a lot of animation. For example when I was trying to watch a page with a house floorplan I got the "spinning beachball" and finally had to force quit and then got a message saying "the application safari quit while unresponsive." When watching a slideshow on Flickr safari suddenly quit and I got the message "The application safari quit unexpectedly. The problem may have been caused by the flash player plug-in."  I get similar crashes and messages when watching Youtube or looking at the web sites of various newspapers or radio stations. The other night for the first time I was watching some video using safari and got the message "A script in this movie is causing adobe flash player 10 to run slowly. If it continues to run, your computer may become unresponsive. Do you want to abort the script?"
The other problem is that something is causing safari to slow to a crawl. It doesn't seem to happen with any other applications. It is especially bad when watching videos such as Youtube. I can only watch youtube in the lowest resolution and smallest screen and then it is stop and go motion with long stops in between action. I used the Activity Monitor application to try to see what was going on. I don't understand most of it, but in the part that shows the percent of CPU being used, when I watch youtube, or almost any time safari slows to a crawl, the percent of CPU being used shoots right up to 100% and stays there. It seems something is hogging all the CPU.
Is this a problem with flash player? Some people suggested I uninstall flash player and then download and install the latest version. If I am reading it correctly it appears that because my imac is old I cannot use the latest version of flash player. I looked at the adobe web site and only saw pages for downloading flash player for intel macs. I don't know what version of flash player my computer can use and I don't know where on the web site to find out nor where to download it. I saw a page for "Archived Flash Player versions" but I wasn't sure if this was for Mac or Windows. It also had "debugger" versions. I don't know what that is. Someone also suggested after uninstalling and installing flash player that I repair disc permissions. Is that right?
My imac is a 1GHz PowerPC G4 with 1GB of RAM. The operating system is OS 10.5.8  According to the page on Adobe's website that shows the version of flash player that is on my computer I have MAC 10,1,102,64.  My safari version is 5.0.5.
Despite my imac being 8 years old it has worked almost flawlessly the whole time, other than this one problem. It would be great if I could get it back into good working order.  Any guidance would be greatly appreciated.  Thanks.

that's what i use on mine, works-no problems. keep in mind if you insert the dongle you can unplug the wire to your keyboard. you'll be no worse off than you are now.

  • After Effects CS6 crashes, causing my iMac to restart

After Effects CS6 crashes, causing my iMac to restart.
I want to buy AE CS6, so I downloaded the 30-day trial version.
I followed all the instructions to install it properly and followed several tutorials to optimize it for my computer.
    This is what I use:
    iMac 27''
    CPU:
    3,2 GHz Intel Core i3
    memory:
    16 GB 1333 MHz DDR3
    archive:
    1 TB
    graphics card:
ATI Radeon HD 5670 512 MB
    operating system:
    OS X 10.8.2 (12C60)
    we are filming with:
    Canon 5D Mark II
    File format:
    QuickTime (.mov)
Based on everything I've read, my iMac has all the system prerequisites to use AE, and all the other programs that I use for video and audio recording and editing ( Final Cut X, Logic Pro, Pro Tools, Photoshop CS6, etc. ), work perfectly, run smoothly and never crash.
After Effects CS6 crashes constantly, causing the computer to restart. It seems to run smoothly, then I start a render and it crashes; or I start a color correction with Curves and it crashes. Each and every time the computer restarts by itself.
I've tried rendering smaller portions of video at a time, sometimes it finishes the rendering, sometimes not.
Hope somebody can help me! Thanks.
    Hilary

Your post is not much use to anyone. You are not telling us anything about your operating system, storage locations, output settings and whatever else may be relevant. The magic sauce is all in the details, not a generic assumption that this would be some bug or known issue.

  • Microsoft Office Crashing on Clients

After upgrading to Leopard Server my clients can not run Microsoft Office. I can run it as local admin, but when I log in the client on the same machine it crashes. Is there a setting or permission I need to give my clients in WGM to make it work?

I had the problem with the project gallery after I "cleaned house" and deleted what I thought were extraneous fonts. These are the ones needed by Office:
    Arial
    Arial Black
    Comic Sans MS
    Tahoma
    Trebuchet MS
    Verdana
    Webdings
You can look in your Microsoft Office Folder>Fonts
    to see what's in there . . .
Since you've uninstalled & reinstalled so many times, it's also
possible that you have a whole bunch of duplicated fonts on your system.
Open up your Font Book application, and look for any fonts in the "All Fonts" pane that have little bullets next to them. Report back on what you see.

  • Yosemite chrome & ms office crash

I upgraded to Yosemite over the weekend.  Now my Chrome and MS Office crash constantly throughout the day.   I have to quite the applications and start over.   It happens pretty frequently, at least one an hour.   I am on Chrome latest version (38.0.2125.104) and MS Office (14.4.5).  Neither have any updates.  Please help.

I have the exact same problem but only with Microsoft.
I am working on my dissertation so I need to save every 5 minutes because Excel keeps on crashing. It also happens quite often that my keyboard doesn't function anymore in Excel (this happens only in Excel). I then solve this by saving my files and ending and relaunching Excel. Still it's quite annoying.
Any help would be more than welcome!
Oh, and I have this problem on both iMac and Macbook pro. Microsoft is installed from the same account.
    Thank you!

I signed up for the site and posted a question their response was that they had an answer and they required credit card imformation.
"If your problem is to read existing Excel files, then I am very surprised that OpenOffice would not open them.  If you could send me one or provide a url I could see what the problem is (tom at bluesky dot org)."
I can down load the files just fine and they open. the numbers in the documents will display but text will not what I get is this : "__________" where there should be text.

Hi, Can you help me I am running an iMac 10.7.5 and iPad 6.0.1 and a macair10.8.2. iCloud is syncing emails and notes but not photos. Photo streaming is switched on on the iMac. what do I need to do to stream photos?

Hi you have basicly 2 Options.
1 -if you Switch One fotostream on all 3 devices of yours which are working on the same apple id -all Fotos you Take with your iPad will be synchronized via icloud to the other 2 decvices ( w-lan and battery depending).
2- If you select foots or a whole album in iPhoto on your air or iMac and choose than puplish --> fotostream --> new or existing event you can key in a friends mail. If this friend has iCloud and iPhoto ( for iMac or MacBook ) and click on the link in the email it will download this fotos in the fotostream section in iPhoto. If he has a iPad, iPhone,... It will do it in the foto app and if he doesn't have a iCloud account at all and you choose "public web site" while publishing he can see your fotostream on a website.

  • Firefox has completely crashed today on my computer. I tried to reload it, and my security application closed it as a "malicious threat" . What's going on?

All applications I try to open from my desktop ,where I used FIREFOX to open them...crash when trying to open. I tried to re-install FIREFOX, but my security application shut it down as a 'malicious threat'.
    What's going on?

Thanks, I deleted a bunch of apps and some other TV shows I had on there. All of the other movies have an active download button so there is room for other movies, just not that one for some reason...weird!

  • I have a mid year 2007 24 inch iMac and will be purchasing a new 27 inch Retina iMac, what is the easiest way to transfer the data and files from my old machine to the new one?

I have a mid year 2007 24 inch iMac and will be purchasing a new 27 inch Retina iMac, what is the easiest way to transfer the data and files from my old machine to the new one?

    Following up on this thread,
I have a new iMac on the way and my current is from 2008, never had a problem but I am sure there are internal issues that I would prefer not to transfer.
I have no issues other then the slowness in certain programs and that is the main reason to buy a new one.
Programs like numbers and pages seem to take a longer time to open after I update to Yosemite.
I only use 272GB of 500 GB, my memory is 4GB and I am upgrading to 8Gb and bought the 4.0 processor.
    Question:
Is there a way to manually transfer items or would that be a waste of time in that if there are issues they could be anywhere and would transfer anyway?

I have an iMac with OS X Lion 10.7.5,an iPhone 5s with iOS 7.1.2 and an iPad with iOS 7.1.2. all software is up to date. My problem is I do not receive all my e-mail on all 3 devices all the time. I seem to get them on my phone , but not all show up on my iMac or iPad. Any ideas as to what is going on and what can I do to resolve this issue? thanks

On the iPhone, go into Settings -> Store and turn off "Automatic Downloads" for Apps (and Music and Books, if you wish). You can also do that on the iPad to prevent it from going in the opposite direction.
That will stop any automatic downloading... to prevent them from coming over when using iTunes, select the phone (under Devices), Apps, and then uncheck "Automatically sync new apps." Again, do the same for the iPad if you wish.
