MS Office Document Cache keeps failing repeatedly...

The thread under title "The Microsoft Office cache encountered a problem (with Office 2013 ProPlus Preview/Beta)" described exactly my problem, but discussion on that thread has been locked without any solution to the problem.
I'd like to add one symptom to this case. All problems started when I installed SkyDrive Pro in order to access my Office 365 files on a sharepoint site of mine. Without Lync program, I managed to run both SkyDrive and SkyDrive Pro simulteneously for short
period of time, but installing Lync (or any other "disturbing" of Office) makes this Document Cache fail over and over again.
At some point of a boot procedure, apparently while putting up this SkyDrive Pro, system gives an error message upon file in use preventing synchronization. File is allegedly in use with other process that is suggested to be closed. Problem is that there
is no apparent program using that file. File in question is the very first file within the group of files I've stored in the sharepoint site in question. It is always the very first file stored there.
I would very much like some advice about how to get these local Office 2013 installation and Office 365 P1 -system work.

Excellent!
Worked for me.
I am currently using Windows 8.1 Pro  and  Office365 ProPlus.
I got the same issue as stated by "Aki from Finland" after and decided to follow the steps outlined by "TylorWang". There were a few things I did differently due to the difference in product versions. Instead of going to the \14.0 folders,
I went to the \15.0 folders (both in the registry and under the \AppData folder).
I used PowerShell, running in Admin mode of course, to stop the MYOSYNC
process with:
kill -name msosync
Once I was done with the three steps, I restarted my computer. Once I logged in into my account, the usual Office Upload Center cache error did not occur and my files are now syncing without any problems.
Thank you very much "TylorWang" for your clear and precise solution and thank you TechNet for your continued support!
Taylor.
Edit: I also run Lync 2013 on my system.

  • SharePoint Workspace: How can I access synced files in Office Document Cache?

I have the following Scenario and I'm struggling on the Office Document Cache, I hope someone can help.
    * Document Library / SharePoint Site on SharePoint Server 2010 holding PDFs, Office Documents, videos etc.
    * We use SharePoint Workspace to sync the document library to Windows 8.1 Enterprise Clients and keep it up to date
    * This works fine so far. All documents are synced to the Clients and are stored in the Office Document Cache.
    * Now the problem: we want to build a Windows 8.1 Modern UI app that lists all documents stored in the Office Document Cache. We already built a similar app that is able to list normal folders stored in the Windows file system... but we can't find a
way to do that with documents stored in ODC.
Is that even possible and if yes, how can we do that? Are there any APIs or methods that we can use?
    Many thanks for any answer!

    Hello jh-work,
Maybe you can find something in the SharePoint Workspace 2010 SDK:

  • Office 2013 .pub keep getting a conversion failure.

I have 43 pages of .pub from Office 2013 that keep failing conversion in the single conversion and the combine files option.
I purchased this subscription specifically for this task on time sensitive material and I cannot obtain the PDF.

    Sara,
Thanks for your reply. I am on OS Windows 8.1 and Office 2013. I am on a server but I also tried converting offline at home. I realize that there are firewall settings in the laptop configuration.
The project is a yearbook for our school so I don't think smaller copies of the file are possible. I'm not exactly sure of how you mean. There are Disney pictures (permissable) on them as well as photographs on most.. The printer was able to successfully PDF the files individually. This is the major project for us and I still want to see if I can get it to work. We have other occassions where we need PDF's and PDF to Office conversions but it is sporadic. We decided on the monthly subscription to handle those sporadic occassions.
I was able to pdf the cover.
My higher level tech support is coming down on Monday and I will pose the firewall questions to them but if you have any other suggestions for me in the meantime I would appreciate it. It doesn't make sense for us to pay for a subscription if it isn't going to work for us.
    I appreciate your advice.

    Kathy

  • Opening Office Documents from Flash

Hi, we're working with a product called ProForm to create online courses that are Flash-based.  It's a pretty cool product, created by Rapid Intake and using ActionScript 2 as the basis.
In a recent course I've been running into a problem.  I've created a custom Flash movie as one of the "pages" in the course.  In that movie I have links that use the getURL function to connect to some local files, and target a new window with the "_blank" option.  I've used this method many times with no issues, and when working with PDFs (thanks, Adobe! ) it works just fine across all browsers tested.
The problem we're seeing is that when we try to use this method to connect directly to Office documents, the links fail to open the documents in Internet Explorer.  When using Firefox, they work fine, and soon after clicking the link the user receives a dialog asking if they wish to save or open the document.  This is the behavior which we expected in IE, and which one can achieve by holding the CTRL button and clicking the link (and don't ask me how that was figured out, 'cuz I don't know).  But when just clicking the link in IE, a browser window briefly pops up, then the thing disappears and nothing else happens - no file opens, no dialog appears, nothing.  Very frustrating.
So if anyone has any experience with this issue and can offer any advice, I'd really appreciate hearing about it.  While we can work around this (e.g. - converting Office docs to PDFs) it's not our first choice, and since none of our development team understands exactly what is happening and why, it would be useful for future development efforts for us to be educated.  Thanks in advance for any help.

Just to try to help the comprehensibility of the issue, I've posted demo page to illustrate the situation: http://www.zoomiechaser.com/demo/button_test.html
If you use IE and click on the link, the page will download as expected.  If you click the Click Me button in the Flash movie, you'll see either a pop-up warning bar, or, if you allow pop-ups, you'll see a window flash quickly on the screen then disappear.  I hope this helps, and that you kind souls can help me in return!

Something to try - use Acrobat to extract small page counts (say 10 pages) to have smaller page size PDF files. Export these to Word files. Then  bring those together.

  • DFS-R - Office Documents locked problem

    Dear Forum Members,
Recently I faced a really "threatening" problem, which you may seen before so know the solution for it. We had an old File Server, used Disk2VHD to move it's complete D: drive to another Windows Server 2012 R2. After this, we enabled DFS replication
for the whole drive to another Active Directory site WS2012R2 file server (just for backup). It is important that we use DFS-N for users to discover this share but they have folder targets JUST for the first one server, the second one is just for backup purposes.
The problem is that DFS-R comes with default exclusions (~*, *.bak, *.tmp), but in order to keep full sync, we removed them. Now users complain that several times they can not save Office documents (typically excel) because the files are locked! Even for
NEW files, when they try to save an .xls/.xlsx from Outlook, the file is imeediately locked!
After this we put back the exclusions immediately, because we taught that the problem comes from the Office temporary files. The event log contained a lot of warnings that tmp files could not be synced because of locked. Now I can not see other tmp files
warnings anymore, but there are still warnings in the DFS log, for example:
Event ID 4302 - The DFS Replication service has been repeatedly prevented from replicating a file due to consistent sharing violations encountered on the file. The service failed to stage a file for replication due to a sharing violation.
And this is for an .xlsm file.
What else could be the problem? Has anyone ran in this situation already?
Thank you a lot for any help,
    Best Regards,
    Christian

    Hi,
    Sorry for the delay reply.
DFS Replication uses staging folders for each replicated folder to act as caches for new and changed files that are ready to be replicated from sending members to receiving members. These files are stored under the local path of the replicated folder in
the DfsrPrivate\Staging folder. So if no new files and changed files, the folder is empty.
For more detailed information, you could refer to the similar thread about

  • Microsoft Office Documents in iCloud CAN Be Done...

    Hey everyone,
I wanted to share my experience as I've seen threads saying it can't be done and a lot of people confused as to, why not? Here's my method of working so hopefully everyone can enjoy this feature like I am. The image below IS a Word document but it's for my solicitor so has personal info on it.
    Just list a few specs I'm using as the system layout might be different to yours;
    OS X Mavericks 10.9.3
    Microsoft Office 2008 for Mac
    MacBook Pro Mid 2009 model
    Step 1: Test Document
Go to Applications and open up 'TextEdit' and click the bottom left hand corner which states 'New Document' and type whatever you want, maybe 'test text'. Go to save and choose a name to save the document under BUT in the field where it says 'Where' choose iCloud... There's a method to my working.
Step 2: Finding the 'Hidden' Library folder in Finder and Mobile Documents
Click 'Finder' and at the top menu bar find 'Go' and click that, with your finger on the options key simultaneously (my keyboard states 'alt' and has the squiggle for Options) then you should see Library pop up, click that. A whole new 'screen' should pop up and scroll down until you find 'Mobile Documents'. Open it up and this is where ALL the iCloud content is saved so don't try and delete or change too much in here if you can help it. Go to the 'com~apple~TextEdit' folder and you should see your STEP 1 test document in there... So, we know it works now? Keep this open for the time being so you don't have to route through again...
Step 3: Putting Microsoft Office Documents in iCloud
Choose what WORD (Pages), EXCEL (Numbers) or POWERPOINT (Keynote) document you want to save in iCloud and open that document up as normal (so in Microsoft Office). Click SAVE AS and here's a pictured example below, save the document as .docx and save. You'll now have TWO of the same documents I have one which is compatible with Mac & Windows but the second is JUST for Mac (I believe) and this .docx is the one you'll need for iCloud.
Step 4: Putting the Word or Document into iCloud
Go back to your Finder window which has the Mobile Documents but then go to File > New Finder Window (So you have them side by side like the picture) > Locate your .docx Saved document and all you need to do is drag that file to the area you want it to go. So, if it's a 'Word' document you'll want to go to Pages as its equivalent. Open up the com~apple~Pages folder and you'll get two other folders and open the one on the left and drag the file into there.
Step 5: Check it's actually in iCloud...
    Go to, www.icloud.com
Sign in with your ID etc. and it'll be in there... If you have Pages etc. on your iPhone or iPad... i believe it'll be in there but I haven't got these on my iPhone or iPad. let me know how you do?

    Welcome to the Apple Community.
You can share some word documents with pages on your iOS devices.
If you want to upload documents that aren't for use with iOS devices this User Tip might be of interest.

I have set up iTunes Match on only 3 devices (my Windows 7 desktop and 2 iPhones) and am now trying to authorise my new Windows 8 (Toshiba) laptop but I keep failing to authorise the laptop using my one-and-only Apple ID. Does anyone have advice to solve this problem?!

Hi all.  I can’t tell you how to solve your iCloud 3.x issues.  Heck, I don’t think they’re even solvable.
But if you had a previous version of iCloud that was working correctly then I can definitely tell you how to solve the “iCloud Photo Stream is not syncing correctly to my Windows 7 PC” problem.  …without even a re-boot.
Log out of iCloud 3.0 and uninstall it.
Open My Computer and then open your C:\ drive.  Go to Tools/Folder Options and click on the View tab.  Select the “Show hidden…” radio button and click on OK.
    Open the Users folder.
    Open your user folder
    Open ProgramData (previously hidden folder)
Open the Apple folder – not the Apple Computer folder.
    Open the Installer Cache folder
In Details view sort on Name
Open the folder for the newest entry for iCloud Control Panel 2.x – probably 2.1.2.8 dated 4/25/2013
Right click on iCloud64.msi and select Install.
When finished, the synching between iCloud and your PC will be back to working perfectly as before the 3.0 fiasco.  The pictures will be synched to the same Photostream folder as before the “upgrade”.  Now all you need to do is wait until Apple/Microsoft get this thing fixed and working before you try the 3.x upgrade again.
I think the iCloud 3.0 software was written by the same folks who wrote healthcare.gov with the main difference being that healthcare.gov might eventually be made to work.
For those of you who hate to go backwards, think of it as attacking to the rear.  Which would you rather have, the frustration of no synching or everything working on an older version?
    Good luck…

  • Flash Player keeps failing in safari

I am using mac OS X Yosemite.
For some unknown reason flash keeps failing in safari, but works in chrome. I can't seem to resolve this issue, This is what I tried so far from answers I received in the apple support forums:
If you can't install or update Flash, follow these instructions.
If you have installed the latest version of Flash, please take each of the following steps that you haven't already tried. After each step, relaunch Safari and test. For a "missing plug-in" error, start with Step 8. Back up all data before making any changes.
    Step 1
You might have to log out or restart the computer before a Flash update takes effect.
    Step 2
From the Safari menu bar, select
Safari ▹ Preferences... ▹ Privacy ▹ Remove All Website Data...
and confirm. Close the window. Then select
               ▹ System Preferences… ▹ Flash Player ▹ Advanced ▹ Delete All...
In the sheet that opens, check the box marked
Delete All Site Data and Settings
then click Delete Data. Close the preference pane.
    Step 3
If you're only having trouble with YouTube videos, log in to YouTube and load this page. You may see a link with the text "Leave the HTML5 Trial." If so, click that link.
    Step 4
    a. If you get a warning of a "blocked" or "outdated" plug-in, then select the Security tab in the Safari preferences window. In the list of plugins on the left, there should be one—and only one—entry for "Adobe Flash Player," showing the same version number that you installed. Select that entry. On the right there will be a list of websites for which you have specifically allowed Flash, if any. It's normal for the list to be empty. Below that is a menu labeled
              When visiting other websites
From that menu, select either Allow or Ask.
    b. If you still get the alerts, then go back to the Flash Player preference pane and select the Advanced tab. Click Check Now. Quit and relaunch the browser.
    c. If the alerts still persist, triple-click anywhere in the line below on this page to select it:
    /System/Library/CoreServices/CoreTypes.bundle/Contents/Resources
Right-click or control-click the highlighted text and select
              Services ▹ Open
from the contextual menu.* A folder should open. Inside it, there should be a file named "XProtect.meta.plist". If that file is missing and you know why it's missing, restore it from a backup or copy it from another Mac running the same version of OS X. Otherwise, reinstall OS X.
*If you don't see the contextual menu item, copy the selected text to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C. In the Finder, select
              Go ▹ Go to Folder...
from the menu bar and paste into the box that opens by pressing command-V. You won't see what you pasted because a line break is included. Press return.
    Step 5
In the Safari preferences window, select the Advanced tab and uncheck the box marked
              Stop plug-ins to save power
    Step 6
Open this folder as in Step 4:
    /Library/Internet Plug-Ins
Delete the following item, or anything with a similar name, if present:
              Flash Player (failing).plugin
You may be prompted for your login password.
    Step 7
Re-download and reinstall Flash. Download it from the domain "get.adobe.com". Don't click a link from any other website, including this one, because you can't trust links. They may be an attempt to trick you into installing malware masquerading as Flash. Type the address into the browser window. Never download a Flash update from anywhere else.
    Step 8
If you get a "missing plug-in" error, select
              Safari ▹ Preferences... ▹ Security
from the Safari menu bar and check the box marked
              Allow (or Enable) plug-ins
    Then click the button marked
              Manage Website Settings...
if present and make sure that the website is not blocked for Flash.
    Step 9
    Select
              Safari ▹ Preferences... ▹ Extensions
from the Safari menu bar. If any extensions are installed, disable them.
We have also run diagnostics on my mac but could not resolve this and eventually I was told the only thing left to do is seek support from adobe.
    Please help!

alright, also, I saw that in those instructions it tells me to delete these:
    <home directory>/Library/Preferences/Macromedia/Flash\ Player
    <home directory>/Library/Caches/Adobe/Flash\ Player
now I can't find any of that stuff but I did find two files called com.macromedia.Flash Player.plugin.sb
in the library sub folders. should I delete them?

I suspect that something is misused in the source but that supersimplistic makefile is not helping, but I will deal with it later, for now the problem it keep failing during the last part of the build in the 7zip plugin (new to 1.3) "memcpy" "memset" "strcpy" "strrchr" "strcat" those are the culprits but as far ME know those are standard for c++ and also the makefile has -lstdc++ added, that as far ME know has the stadard c++ functions... so I'm a little clueles.
I know who is the culprit but not why.

  • Livecycle ES3 - Opening and edit rights managed MS office document in SharePoint

As stated in the release note of LiveCycle Rights Management 9.5 Extension for Microsoft Office:
"After opening the protected document: When you open a protected document from SharePoint Server, all permissions on the document are disabled, regardless of the policy that was applied."
Current LC ES2/ ES2.5 does not cater the direct edit of MS office documents in SharePoint.
Is there any news that LC ES3 will resolve this to allow direct edit on the document?
    Thanks.
