MS Office for Mac crashes in Mountain Lion

Since upgrading to Mountain Lion yesterday, none of my MS Office for Mac (2008) programs launch - anyone know if there's a fix for that? Of course, I can't run any updates etc as it hangs at the splash screen.
I don't have the discs any longer (lost in a move) and I begrudge buying another version when I only use it to open documents people send me in Word, etc. I use the iWork suite myself but need to be able to open Word & Excel and make changes.
Anyone know of a fix for getting them working again (ideally) or at least a workaround if I can download something else (e.g. a 'lite' version or something) to open them and edit.
Thanks in advance.

That's weird because I'm running MSOffice 2008 in Mountain Lion without any trouble. I also use Office 2011 without any issues.
I can only assume that you didn't install ML correctly.
Try installing ML again, maybe?
Also make sure that the folder "Microsoft Office 2008"  is in your "Applications" folder and not nested inside any other folder. ML doesn't like you keeping your applications anywhere other than directly in the "Applications" folder.
BTW in my opinion LibreOffice is better than OpenOffice - although it's still clunky.

  • Office for Mac X compatibility with Lion

    Hi guys,
My company is equipped with Office for Mac X (came out in 2002, fairly obsolete I know), and we're trying to know whether we'll be able to use the software on the new OS Lion (until now, we've been able to use it no matter what new OS we have been using)
    Any clues?
    Thanks

Ask Mircosoft seeing as how they are the ones that produce it?
IMHO the chances are probably slim at best.
I always love companies that are so cheap as to not upgrade their software until forced to do it. Then they whine and moan about the expense and difficulty to do it a decade ot so to late.

  • How do you make a startup disk for Mac Pro with mountain lion

My Mac Pro did not come with a disk how do you make one or get one??
If you ever need to repair or reformat your hard drive you need one!

If you still have - or can download - the Lion Installer app from the Mac App Store, you'll find an app titled "Install Mac OS Mountain Lion.app" in your Applications folder. If it's not there, and you've already purchased it, just go to the MAS, look under your Purchases tab and download it from there. If you haven't already purchased it, you'll need to do so using your Apple ID.
Once you have the installation app, get a 8GB+ USB flash drive and download DiskMaker X - just plug in the flash drive, start up DiskMaker X and follow the instructions. You'll now have a bootable installation disk.
    Good luck,

  • Office for Mac crash

All my 2011 MS Office programs crash. I disabled Microsoft Error Reporting, but Word, Excel and Poweerpoint still go down when booted. Help!

It's usually easier to do 2 things to get Office to run.
Launch the Font Book program, select all fonts, validate them, and remove any fonts that do not have a green checkmark (about 40 of them from what I remember). Most of the fonts you remove are duplicates installed by MS that confuse the system.
Then you can go to your user folder/Library/Preferences/ and remove the plists that are named com.microsoft.<some name> - these are just preference files that may not work well with your new OS. They will be recreated with default settings when you launch the Office programs.
You can put the plist files in a folder on your desktop, and replace them if needed for some reason. You will delete the folder when you find the programs are working properly.

  • EA4500 installation software for Mac 10.8 Mountain Lion

I just bought EA4500. The CD come with it does not support Mac OS 10.8.
    How to go about it?

The software that came with the cd will not run with MAC OS X 10.8. What you can do instead is to manually configure the router to get the internet connection. Then after that you can decide if you will want to go for cisco connect cloud or just stay with the classic firmware.
Please check the links below how to manually set up the router:

I purchased an app (My Paintbrush) but the download was interrupted before it finished and now it says "an error occurred" everytime I will try to re-install the app from my purchase list. How do I install the app if the error prompt always appears? Please help! Thanks!

If you have more than one user account, these instructions must be carried out as an administrator.
Launch the Console application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Console in the icon grid.
    Select
    /var/log ▹ install.log
from the hierarchical list on the left. If you don't see that list, select
    View ▹ Show Log List
from the menu bar. Then select the messages from the last installation or update attempt, starting from the time when you initiated it. If you're not sure when that was, start over and note the time. Copy them to the Clipboard (command-C). Paste into a reply to this message (command-V).
If there are runs of repeated messages, post only one example of each. Don’t post many repetitions of the same message.

  • Will Microsoft Office for Mac 2011 work on my iMac with Mountain Lion OS?

Help!  I have downloaded Mountain Lion (10.8.4) on my iMac. Now I can't open or use files that contained labels I made with Microsoft Office for Mac 2004 because Mountain Lion does not support Power PC and Microsoft Excel.  If I purchase and download Office for Mac 2011, will it allow me to continue using these label files?  If not, how can I get a database for my iMac that will enable me to create labels and catalogues?

Thanks, Niel.  I'm glad to know purchasing the Microsoft Office for Mac 2011 will enable me to retrieve and use my "ancient" database label files.  I did try to get OpenOffice, but my computer says "'OpenOffice' can't be opened because it is from an unidentified developer" and my "security preferences allow installation of only apps from the Mac App Store and identified developers."  How can I do this?  I really don't know about the inner workings of my computer!

  • Office for Mac 2008 crashes after Mountain Lion upgrade

I've just upgraded to Mountain Lion and now Microsoft Office for mac 2008 won't work. Every time I try and open any of the apps it produces a Microsoft error report message.

I think I have managed to solve the problem having explored other discussions on here. I restored to standard fonts in my Font Book and it all now seems to work. Hopefully!

  • Hyperlinks from Office for Mac don't work after I installed OS Mountain Lion

I installed OS Mountain Lion a week ago. Since then hyperlinks have not functioned from e g Word, Excel or Outlook for Mac. I am running MS Office for Mac 2011.
I was earlier using Snow Leopard and did not have any problems with that at all!
Needless to say, this is quite urgent as many emails contain important links, which I am unable to use
    Is this a known bug??

Office 2004 is a PowerPC-only suite and will not run under Mountain Lion. You'll need to upgrade to Office 2008 or Office 2011, or get one of the various programs/suites that can open and save in Office format (Apple's iWork apps, LibreOffice, OpenOffice.org, etc.)
Or you'll have to downgrade back to Mac OS X 10.6.
    Regards.

  • I upgraded my Mac from OSX 10.5.8 to Snow Leopard and then to Mountain Lion 10.8.2.  I did have Microsoft Office for Mac 2004 in my applications and now get a message "can't open Office because Power PC applications are no longer supported."

I just upgraded my MAC from OSX 10.5.8 to Snow Leopard and then to Mountain Lion 10.8.2.  When I try to access my Microsoft Office for MAC (2004 edition) files I am getting a message "can't open Office because Power PC applications are no longer supported.  How can I access all of my save Word documents?  I just want to be able to retrieve all of my documents that were in Microsoft Office for Mac (2004).  If I purchase the newest version of MS office for Mac from Apple will I be able to retrieve my old documents?

Use any number of free alternatives to your nearly decade old version of MS Office.
    Consider
    LibreOffice (donation-supported)
    NeoOffice (free)
    OpenOffice (free)
In addition to the above I also recommend Apple's Pages ($19.99). I use OpenOffice and Pages and have been completely Microsoft - free for years. Life is better without Microsoft.
