MS office not responding

I upgraded to Maverick and now my MS Office is unstable; it works but is slow then freezes and not responding. Any suggestions?

Try uninstalling and reinstalling Office from your original MS disc.

  • 10.4.11 update - now MS Office not responding

    Hi,
Since I updated to Mac OS X 10.4.11 today, none of my MS Office applications are responding. I click on the icon and it starts to do something, as if it is about to open, but then nothing comes of it. I have tried to uninstall MS Office but even the uninstall icon won't open.
I'm pretty much a Mac novice so any advice would be much appreciated.
    Regards
    Tracey

I did download and install the combo update. Nothing happened. I mean, it didn't help anything, and at first, I was so worried, because the grey screen was there so long, it was making me nervous. But, it finally came around. Safari quits unexpectedly, and even when I shut it down, it tells me that it quit unexpectedly. Microsoft word won't open from the icon at the bottom of the screen, BUT, if I open something that I've saved in Word, then it opens up nicely and I can choose NEW from there and use Word, but it won't work from the icon at the bottom of the screen. So, I'm just not sure what to delete and what to keep. Also, when I receive files via iChat, they now come with a tiny little yp over the file I'm receiving. Having been a PC user, I immediately thought of a virus, but folks in these lists say no such thing for a Mac. I'm concerned about that yp over my files. And it's not just from one person, it's from everyone. Do I sound like I have a lot of concerns here? Well, I do. Thanks so much. Sandy

  • Office 2013 outlook (not responding) opening attachments over a WAN link

Before I get to the question I'll give you some info about our arcitecture.
We have 7 remote sites each with 5mb connections.
    5-10 computer at each site
We are running exchange 2010 centrally from one server on a 20mb connection.
All clients are running windows 7 64bit with office 2013
We recetly upgraded from office 2003 to 2013 when this problem started.
If a user clicks on an attachment from one of our remote sites, and if the attachment is larger than 150kb the outlook client displays (not responding) for up to two minutes.  If you wait long enough the attachment will open without error.  It
doesnt matter if its a word docuemnt, PDF, JPG they all respond the same.  There are several active application add-ins running I have not tried to disable  any of them yet.
    Acrobat PDFMaker office com addin
Lync meeting addin for microsoft office 2013
    microsoft exchange addin
microsoft sharepoint server colleague import addin
    microsoft vba for outlook addin
    onenote notes about outlook items
    outlook social connector 2013
    symantec endpoint protection outlook addin
I should also mention theres plenty of bandwidth free at both ends of the pipe.  Moving the same file size accross the network literally takes only takes a second or less.
How can I go about troubleshootng this issue further?
    Has anyone else experieced this?
What have you done to fix it?

    Hi,
According to your description, I understand that all attachments in Outlook are opened slowly since updating Outlook 2003 to 2013. Please confirm whether all users encounter this issue. Also check whether the issue continues in cached mode and in OWA.
Based on your post, I suggest we can try to disable the following add-ins to check whether the issue persists:
    Acrobat PDFMaker office com addin
    symantec endpoint protection outlook addin
If there is any updates, please feel free to let us know.
    Thanks,

  • Office 2013 (Word, Outlook, Excel, Power point) are not responding after live update

I had problems all last week with my Office applications not responding. I tried to uninstall and reinstall the software which did not solve the problem. I then did a samsung 5 recovery to factory state and installed office all over again which temporally

Please help as this is holding up my work.

  • Outlook 2013 Not Responding and Offline Address Book Issues with Office 365

Around 3 months ago I setup a small business with Office 365 for email. They have 10 PCs, all running newly installed Windows 7 Professional 64-bit, eight with Office 2013 and two with Office 2010. All are connected to a local domain (Server Essentials
2012) with a single internet connection through a new TP-LINK router. Each user logs into their own PC only.
The network runs perfectly, internet connection is good but there seems to be RANDOM, INTERMITTENT issues with email not being SENT from Outlook every so often. Email will sit in the outbox for up to an hour sometimes before, eventually, being sent. Incoming
email seems ok, although this is more difficult to tell. At others times, email will be sent instantly - the size of the message and any attachments makes no difference.
The issue has happened at some point on every one of the PCs but no particular PC/user seems worse than any other. When email is stuck on one user's PC it can still be sent ok by other users at the same time - so the internet connection is not down. Users can
can always login to the OWA service ok and iPhones etc. all sync ok even when email is stuck in the Outbox.
To debug the issue I have worked on one particular user's PC and carried out the following changes -
    Changes that made no difference
I have checked the router. A SPI firewall is available on the router but this is switched off.
I have changed the MTU on the router with no effect.
There are no unsual add-ins to Outlook
Outgoing email virus scanning is disabled
Outlook is NOT integrated with Lync
The OST file is around 1.7 GBytes is size.
I have recreated the Outlook profile twice but this made no difference
Switched OFF "Cached Exchange Mode" - this made things worse !
The Outlook address book is set to \Offline Global Address List
I have disabled with Windows firewall on the client PC - no change
I have adjusted the KeepAliveTime for packets in the registry of the PC to 20 minutes
Changes that reduced the frequency of "Not Responding"
I have changed the Outlook automatic Send/Receive time from 30 to 10 minutes - this seemed to help
    Possible Related Problem
I have attempted to download the offline address book manually - this hangs at "Copying offline address book template file" in the Send/Receive dialog and there a NO OAB files in the data file location on the PC.
So the only measure that has so far "helped" has been the Outlook Send/Receive time change - now set to 10 minutes. Even so, Outlook will occasionally go "Not Responding" for 30 minutes or more (no windows active - only option
is to close and reopen Outlook).
There does seem to be a problem with the Offline Address book. I can download this ok for this user on my home PC (Outlook 2010) but this will not download manually on the work pc with Outlook 2013 (despite following all the debug steps above).
On work PC I can see literally hundreds of "Schannel" errors in the Windows System event logs -
    Error - Event 36888 Schannel
The following fatal error was generated :10
The internal error state is 10
These errors occur every 2-4 minutes continually all the time Outlook is running. When Outlook is closed the "Schannel" errors stop !
Can anyone suggest what else to try, please ?
I have already investigated this issue on the Office 365 Community Forum, and the Outlook forum and they suggested that it was a client (i.e Outlook) issue and that I should post here for further information.
    Thanks for reading !

    An update to this problem.
I brought one of the office PCs back to my home network and connected it up there. With no changes to the PC I was immediately able to download the Offline Address Book without errors.
This suggests to me that there must be some problem with the internet connection or router setup in the office environment.
The router is a TP-LINK W8970. The internet connection is PPPoA. I have seen some suggestion that an SPI firewall can cause issues. This router has an SPI firewall but this feature is disabled on the router.
While investigating this issue I have frequently been connected remotely to an office PC - sometimes for up to an hour or more. During these periods I have not experienced any connection dropouts so the actual internet connection seems to be ok (i.e. it is
    not dropping out).
However, something seems to be preventing the Outlook client from connecting properly with the Office 365 Exchange server in the office environment - or something is dropping the connection to Outlook. Does anyone know of any router settings that might affect
    this ?
I could try changing the office router but I do not have a spare available. Can anyone suggest a reasonably low cost, currenbtly available router that they know definitely works in the Office 365 environment so that I could buy this for test purposes ?

  • Trying to re-install mac office 2011 (downloaded dmg) but installer "not responding"

My Mac Word 2011 seems corrupted, so I downloaded a dmg (from my Amazonm Software account {I purchased the 2011 Office package on Amazon in 2011}) in order to try to re-install.  Interestingly, the downloaded dmg is a file named "Office_Mac_Home_and_Student_2011_1_User_3_Installs_OLD_VERSION_Downloader.dmg" .
The problem is that the installer doesn't work.  It hangs every time with a "not responding" message appearing in the "force quit" window.
I should be able to get some help from Microsoft, I suppose, but don't know who to call at microsoft.  By thye way, I have never hade to reinstall any software bought over the web (so that i do not have any DVD copy) so this is probably more confusijg to me because of that.  Thanks.
I am using Snowleopard on an iMac

Why not simply re-download directly from Microsoft's website? Seems much easier going right to the source rather than using a reseller? Also if you have been backing up you can also restore from Time Machine which would be the easiest solution. Either way you will need the MS's install codes for re-installing the app.
BTW locating MS's download site took all of a second to research using Google. I searched for Office for Mac download and found:

  • Firefox Not Responding after Installing Microsoft Office 10

After installing Microsoft Office 10 (student and home edition) on my laptop, I noticed that Firefox is going into the state 'Not Responding' every time I access it - it takes about 10 secs to 'think' and then comes back online. It continues to do this every time I want to access a new page, new link, click on mail in Yahoo Mail, etc. Has anyone experienced this issue?

    1) Check the $IAS_ORACLE_HOME/Apache/JServ/etc/logs/jvm
has servral logs for OACoreGroup Servlets that are initialied
    2) You might have to enable the debug option in jserv.properties and jserv.conf
(find IsItWorking.java in Metalink for the appropriate note )
    3) If this is 403 forbidden then check trusted.conf alongside httpd.conf
pls keep posted about how this issue got resolved.

JSP not responding after installing 11.5.10.2 on IBM
    HACMP
i have finished installing Oracle applications
11.5.10.2 on IBM clusters (HACMP version 5.1)its a
multinode setup with mutual failover. other
applications are working fine. the installation went
well. but the final part on the middle tier , during
the post install checks it says JSP not responding. I
checked the apache error-log and saw the follwoing
    entry
    [Sun Apr 23 21:04:21 2006] [error] [client
172.29.200.74] client denied by server configuration:
    /appl/oracle/devcomn/portal/

    >
that bafles me because that ip address was not used
in the installation. its the persistent ip address of
the HACMP. the service ip that was used in the
    configuration file was 172.29.200.75
however there is no mention of this in the error
log.i also edited the oprocmgr.conf in the
Apache/conf directory after which i dont get the
error however the servlets pages then hangs and
returns page cannot be displayed error on internet
explorer. no error is registered on the error log.
the jdk am using is 1.4.2 which is the recommended
    one.
what this means is that i cannot access the self
service pages and as you know you need self service
pages to access the application in 11.5.10.2
i opened a TAR with oracle on 8th April 2006 and till
today i have not been able to get a solution.
I am hoping that i will get someone in this forum who
has met a similar problem or who has an insight into
how we can solve this problem already am weeks past

  • Office 2004 and "not responding" message

My office 2004 student/teachers worked fine even on leopard - until recently.
My latest updates were works and life 2009 and Abiword.
Now when i reinstall using all methods suggested, - the install works but on clicking on any of the office icons such as word or powerpoint e.t.c. I get the logo on the desktop for minutes on end and on right clicking the icon I get the grey-out "not responding".
what may be the problem and solution after I have tried the usual ones discussed previously.

Since the issue you're having is not related to any Apple products, I suggest you post your question on MIcrosoft's own forums for their Mac version of Office as they're more focused on the issue you're having then an Apple forum, as Apple discussions only provide support for Apple products Plus there's Microsoft appointed "MVPs" there to assist:

  • Office 2010 applications frequently Not Responding

Desktop config: Windows XP SP3 + Office 2010 + SP1 activated via KMS
We seem to be getting a large number of cases where the Office 2010 application (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) locks up and just displays 'Not Responding'
The only clue we can see if that in ALL cases just before the Not Responding issue occured the following was logged in the clients event log - there are no other event logged such as application hangs.

    Max -
No offense intended, but while I agree that this could be the case, your answer is for XP and I find it lacking a good solution with a rather bland explanation.
I'm seeing this problem with Windows 7, but we are not using a KMS, however the OPPSVC does run rather frequently, as seen in the Event Logs.
When opening Word documents in Office 2010, the computer will "hang" and applications show the "Not Responding" message for several minutes before returning, if at all. It will not happen every time the application is opened, and happens regardless of whether
or not Word is already open at the time the document is opened. It almost seems as though the Office Platform Protection Service is the CAUSE of the problem, and when looking at the process in SysInternals Process Explorer, I don't see anything out of the
ordinary that would explain why the system resources are being tied up by that service, although I admit I have not been able to capture the problem when it's occurring because it happens pretty randomly.
I'm less convinced that there is a third-party software causing the problem and more convinced that if the OPPSVC is already running, and you happen to open a document at the exact same time that the service fires off to do it's check, it enters a minor
race condition of some kind and either never responds, or takes a long time to resolve/timeout.
This issue is having a major impact during sales demonstrations that my organization does because it causes the entire demonstration to pause or crash and is totally unacceptable. All of our licenses are in order and I can't shut off the OPPSVC to verify
if it's causing the problem because Word will not start if the service is disabled.
A better solution would be much appreciated.

  • Apple Mail: Not Responding

When I open my Mail program over the last few days it does nothing - does not even show the Mail Message Window. I have to Force Quit (message says Mail Not Responding). This happens over and over again. I used Disk Utility to check preferences and repaired all (not much there and nothing relating to Mail). Still won't work. In general Apple Mail has not been working well for awhile that along with MobileMe... delivering multiple emails of the same message and loosing Sent messages. What is happening to this program? Do I have to use Microsoft Office to find a dependable eMail Client software? As it stands I have started using Office on our other computers just so we can receive our email and not worry about loosing or storing Sent and Received Mail.
I am running Mac OS X Leopard 10.5.8 on my workstation. I have Snow Leopard ready to install but was waiting to complete time critical work before installing new system software - perhaps that will be the answer to the problem(?). Anyone having this problem and if so - have you found a solution?
Note: I do receive mail on my iPhone and on iPad thankfully using Apple's Mail program but those are mobile devices - we require dependable email to run our business on our desktops.

Mail in Leopard should not have such problems. Disk Utility repairs permissions, not preferences. I'm assuming your only e-mail account is with Mobileme?

  • Microsoft Word Freezing Repeatedly, Application Not Responding

Just wondering if anyone else was having issues with Microsoft Word from MS Office 2008, where you open the application, you type a few sentences, and the application freezes with the spinning circle of death that won't go away until you click the dock where it says "application not responding" and do a force-quit? You can leave the circle spinning for 10-20-30 minutes, and it never goes away.
Now for the weird part--this error only happens for me when I'm using a specific document on my computer. I can open Word, start a new document, type several paragraphs of text, and it works fine. But I've been working on an existing paper for about two months that all of a sudden started causing these freezes/crashes when editing it. It's about 30 pages roughly, no images, no big inserts that would take up a lot of memory (116 kb in size). And up until today, there were no problems. So why all of a sudden can't I edit anything on this paper without freezing the program?! I downloaded the Microsoft Office 2008 Service Pack 1 that was just released after this problem started, and ran all the recent Java and program updates through Software Update with computer restarts. I even copied the text from the Word document I was working on, pasted it into a new document, tried saving it as both .doc and .docx, and again the program still freezes when working with that text in a new file. This one baffles me. It's like the text within a document is somehow freezing the application. One thing I did notice is that the freezes seem to happen when I'm scrolling using a mouse wheel. Not always, but quite a bit. I suppose this is some memory issue related to several pages of text that the program can't render or process when you add new lines of text or scroll, but again, I can't figure why this paper I've been working on for months all of a sudden decided to start freezing Word today. Can you really only have 30 double-spaced pages of text in Word before it crashes?
Looks like I've found my reason to switch to Open Office, since I'm 3-4 days out from a deadline. Any other solution strategies would be welcome. Thanks.

Same problem here - Microsoft Word 2008 (update 12.1.7) will open fine, and then start the spinning pizza of death. Only way out is to force-quit the app. I've tried:
    1) deleting plist and font cache files
    2) uninstalling MS Office 2008, reinstalling and then re-applying updates 12.1.0 and 12.1.7
    3) confirming that Apple's Font Card.app can verify all fonts
No luck. Currently I can't open any MS word doc without the spinning pizza of death.
If you are lucky enough that these symptoms only happen with a specific Word .doc file, I would see if the PC-originator could re-save the file as .RTF and resend. If you can then open it OK, you could revert back to .doc (or .docx) format. RTF format is Microsoft's interchange format. If there are anomalies in the .doc file, saving as .RTF can sometimes clean them up. Once done, you can revert back to native MS Word format.
