I have a problem with MS Office on my MacBook Pro causing it to freeze. Apple have said I need to uninstall and reinstall office. Anyone else had this problem? How do you uninstall Office as I believe there is a remove software file but can't find it.

Over the past two weeks I've had serious problems whilst working with my rMBP locking up. Whenever i have a few apps open and I swipe between them everything freezes for about 5-10 mins and sometimes not at all. I have to hard shutdown. I've heard other people say the same on mavericks, is this being addressed by apple?
Hey LukeMc007,
I recommend running through the following troubleshooting steps:
Restart your Mac.
Methods for starting up your Mac
Check for updates to your software. Keep your Mac up to date
Disconnect any peripheral devices you just connected (for example, a printer). They may not be compatible with your version of OS X.
Use Apple Diagnostics or Apple Hardware Test. These tools can tell you if hardware you installed, such as additional memory, is incompatible, improperly installed, or defective.
Use Apple Diagnostics or Apple Hardware Test
Restart your Mac in safe mode.
Start up in safe mode
Use Disk Utility to repair your computer’s internal disk.

My early 2011 MacBook Pro 15" non-glare display has developed a dark band at the edges of the screen approximately the same width as the aluminum surround. This wasn't present when the MBP was new. I'm near an Apple Store and can take the laptop in, but has anyone else had this problem?
Thanks for your input. I didn't completely flesh out what I'm seeing visually. The resolution settings are all correct for my screen. The problem is if, say, looking at the gray startup screens or a completely white full-screen image, there is a perimeter of graying, almost as if the LEDs are somehow not as bright as the rest. It's also curious that the thickness of this phenomenon is almost exactly the same as the metal bezel around the display. I will be taking it to an Apple Store for a look, as I'm also having several minor hardware problems that need to be addressed and remedied.

Firefox on MacBook Pro Slowed To A Crawl - Anyone Else Had This Problem???
Hey Folks,
I have Mac Book Pro with 2gigs of ram. Firefox has run great on it, until the other day. I had systems crash while using firefox.
After that firefox runs very slow. I tried uninstalling then re-installing firefox. Still the same problem.
I even re-installed the Mac OS software.
Still the same problem????
Anyone have any ideas whats going on and how to fix?
At this point Firefox isn't usable because it has become so slow.Yes. I've had this problem developing over the past several weeks. I thought it was a bad extension so I removed them one by one. Then I actually removed and re-installed but that didn't solve he problem. I've now removed it and switched back to Safari until I read an acknowledgement and a fix from Mozilla.
I'm not sure this is related but it's sure one heck of a coincidence... My Yahoo Messenger was taking an extremely long time to launch. I'd get the spinning beachball for upward of 30 seconds before I'd see the logon screen. Since removing Firefox that problem seems to be gone as well. Just for reference, I had been using the latest release of Firefox. -
I recently purchased a Mac Pro (one month old) since day one I have found that when trying to use Face Time the camera is very intermittant, originally I thought it was a problem with the software, but have since realized that if I place a slight pressure on the right hand corner of the monitor, or wiggle the screen, then the camera will begin working, so has to be a poor connection...has anyone ele experienced this problem?
Call AppleCare: 1-800-275-2273 or if the Apple store is nearby, take it there to have it checked out.

I moved all of my photo library and music library to my MacBook last year and also added iCloud for backing up. Now much of my music and hundreds and hundreds of photos (irreplaceable) have disappeared. They are exactly nowhere. Has anyone else experienced this kind of problem? I back up to Time Machine daily but Time Machine has no record of the lost files either. Has anyone else experienced this and more importantly, is there a solution??
iCloud backup do not backup music or your photos.
See what iCloud backed up:

My computer works fine but I'm scared that something might be loose inside and could cause problems later on.

You willl do better in the forum for MBP (this is not). I doubt there is room for anything to be loose. -
My macbook overheats when not in use, has anyone else had this problem?
Over the last nine months, I have had 5 different Macbook pros. The problem always seems to be the same. it starts to overheat and then will not turn on. It begins getting hot whilst not being used and not being left on or on charge.
I have had enough of this, they cannot tell me what is wrong and just offer to change the machine. This last machine is only about 4 months old.
I am not sure what to do about this.

Are you saying that the MBP, turned off, will overheat? How have you determined that? How hot do they get?

Anyone know the answer to this question
I suspect what you are trying to say is that your iPad is showing up as a photo device in the same way as any other external device would, eg., USB key etc. I am not familiar with the MacBook but here is the possible remedy for Windows operating systems and I am sure you will be able to interpret it accordingly -
Connect your iPad to your computer
Open My computer / Computer
Locate the IPad / 'photo' icon
Right click on it and go to Properties
There should be a place to set what will happen each time the device is connected, set it to do nothing, unplugg the iPad, reconnect it and now try again. -
I recently bought a Macbook Pro, this is my first Mac. I restarted it, but when it started back there was a plain white screen and then it prompted me to insert the reboot disk. Has anyone else had this problem and is there a way to do this manually like with PC's?
The new Mac's came with OS X Lion 10.7 and there are no boot disks.
Since it's so new, take it back to the Apple Store and let them deal with it.
If not you can hold Command and r (as in rotten) keys down and boot the computer.
You'll be presented with a several options, including one to reinstall OS X Lion provided you have a Apple ID, which means you have to use Safari in there to set one up. To do that you need to set up a email account with Google or Yahoo. Once you get the ID, then you can download Lion and reinstall it.
It's so stupid not having a copy of the OS on hand to perform your own repairs.
Of course Apple will be happy to sell you a $69 Lion USB stick.
Like I said, take it back to the store, and try to get your money back, that will force them to think about just giving you a replacement machine that works.
Lion doesn't work really but it can be acceptable until the patches get released. -
Mid morning, before Christmas, my iMac stopped downloading all mail from gmail and my personal domain. Only the me.com account is still functioning. Thankfully I am able to access my mail on my MacBook Air but would like to get the problem resolved on my main computer. Has anyone else had this problem?
Hi Susan,
Can you loginto gMail's Webmail in a browser using the same login credentials?
In Mail's Window Menu, choose Connection Doctor, any red dots for status, if so what is the message?
Then click the Show Details button & Check again.
Gmail send but not receive...
Here are two steps that have come in handy in related situations
1) login to gmail on your computer or device via a web browser
2) once logged in successfully, go to this URL to unlock:
https://www.google.com/accounts/DisplayUnlockCaptch
The Password rejection can confuse people since it's a catch all meaning...
This Password, Username, Authentication method... is not recognized on this Port to this Server, or a server end problem.
If using a browser to login via WebMail works it's not Name or Password, but one of the other ones.
The receiving email ports are:
IMAP is port 143
IMAP-SSL is port 993
POP is port 110
POP-SSL is port 995
Outgoing ports are...
SMTP and SMTP-SSL is on ports 25, 587 and 465. Port 587 has to be SSL, and port 465 is enforced TLS-wrapped and is generally used by Outlook users. -
My MacBook Pro (purchased in 2011) is taking 10 minutes to boot-up. It's also taking much longer to open files. I have 650 GB out of 700 GB left on my machine so it's not that I've overloaded the memory. Is anyone else having this problem?
Look at this comprehensive trouble shooting document;
https://discussions.apple.com/docs/DOC-3353
I suggest that you start with SMC and PRAM resets.
Then a Safe Boot.

my airplay from my MacBook Pro to my tv through my apple tv is fuzzy- it just started being fuzzy about 2 months ago- it used to be clear- anyone else have this problem? How can I fix it?
Hi freezebri,
The following steps may resolve your issue:
Apple TV: Basic troubleshooting
http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1551
If your TV screen appears fuzzy or black (you see no video)
Make sure the television you are using supports the Apple TV resolution requirements. Please see the Apple TV technical specifications.
When you connect power, check to make sure the LED turns on. If the LED is not on, then verify with a known good power outlet or connect something else to the outlet you're using for Apple TV and make sure it works (such as a lamp or clock).
Make sure you're using the correct video cables and that they are connected firmly to Apple TV and to your TV.
Connect the HDMI cable directly into the Apple TV and your television, remove any third party devices or adapters.
Make sure the input setting you've selected on your TV matches the input you have your video cables connected to. See the documentation that came with your TV for more information.
Change the Apple TV resolution by pressing and holding the Menu and Up button for six seconds. The Apple TV will automatically cycle to the next resolution at approximately 20 second intervals. Pressing the Selectbutton will immediately cycle to the next resolution.
If you are connected via HDMI, try unplugging and replugging your HDMI cable.
If HDMI isn't working on an Apple TV (1st generation), try component cables instead (and disconnect the HDMI cable temporarily). Read more about HDMI vs component video.
Hope this information helps ...
