MS Outlook 2010 Query

Hi,
I am sending a mail to 10 e-mail ids from the Address book,
I want that each recipient receives the mail with his name in the first line of message text
e.g. I am sending a mail to [email protected] and his name in address book is "ABC XYZ" then
when he receives the mail, the first line of mail text should look like this,
Dear ABC XYZ
How to do this?

You'd need to setup a mail merge to do that. Fairly straight forward but quite a few steps required.
Detailed guides for it here
http://office.microsoft.com/en-gb/word-help/use-mail-merge-to-send-personalized-e-mail-messages-to-your-e-mail-address-list-HA010109162.aspx and here
http://blogs.office.com/b/microsoft-outlook/archive/2008/09/22/mail-merge-how-to-send-a-personalized-e-mail-to-many-people-at-once.aspx
This one's not as easy a read, but points out where the menu options are different across versions of Outlook

  • BUG - Outlook 2010 'send as' permissions - Workaround within

issue : when a user attempts to 'send as' another mailbox, the email fails with Undeliverable message:
"You can't send a message on behalf of this user unless you have permission to do so. Please make sure you're sending on behalf of the correct sender, or request the necessary
permission. If the problem continues, please contact your helpdesk ".
This error only occurs once the email address has been cached (ie: 2nd attempt to 'send as' a user). Permissions are correct as 'send as' worked fine when using outlook 2007. upgrading
a client to outlook 2010 results in the above error.
scope : outlook 2010 clients with exchange 2007/2010 (appears to be client related, not exchange server). windows updates as of 22-dec-2010 have not resolved this.
workaround : Cached Exchange Mode is ENABLED. Disabling this and restarting outlook resolves this issue. (Outlook 2010 > File > Account settings > Account settings... > double click the default account on the 'EMAIL' tab > untick
    'used cached exchange mode'.)
i hope this helps other people; i've been googling for a resolution to this issue since beta/RC. now i've got office 2010 RTM the issue was still present. no forums/blogs could
    shed light on this issue.
Is this the correct way to report bugs, or is there another way? i've tried connect.microsoft.com, but theres no "accepting bugs" for the outlook/office suite.

Nothing particularly useful in that thread either:

    1) looks like you have an issue with the DC plesae check it
    2) restart the information store and system attendant to speed it.
    3) send as is managed using send as permissions in the EMC

dont amend the settings in active directory for exchange 2010 servers. use the exchange management console> recipient config>mailbox and use 'manage send as permission' in the right pane.

I already tick the checkbox to inherit all the permissions from the parent , now for those who
are members of any protected group , this check box keep un-ticked  again every 15 min ,
active directory keep synchronize these permissions with adminsdholder .
anyway my problem are still open , hope it solved .

    Hi Exchisa,
Many, many apologies, as I mis-read your query and missed the vital bit of info (serves me right for reading it on my mobile...)
I'm afraid you are a bit stuck. Members of the protected groups are automatically reset to the approved permissions at regular intervals as a security measure.
I'm afraid you are not going to be able to use the 'send as' facility on any member of such a group.
Either move the user to another group or change the e-mail address to suit your needs.
    EG:
Lets say you want to 'send as' administrator:-
    a) change the administrator's email from {[email protected]}to {[email protected]} and disable automatic recipient policy updates for the user.
    b) Create a distribution group for {[email protected]}and set administrator as a member so they receive messages as they would have before.
    c) set the send as permissions on the distribution group {[email protected]}to allow users to send as, including the administrator user.
This is technically a workaround, not a solution.

    Dear All .
I still stuck to have this feature working perfectly .
Now I don't want to use this feature to enable users to send as by each other , i only want the users on any given group to send by the name of this group , i did not configure any thing in the ADUC snap in , i only configure this feature from the EMC .
i recieve this error from outlook 2010 :
You can't send a message on behalf of this user unless you have permission to do so. Please make sure you're sending on behalf of the correct sender, or request the necessary permission. If the problem continues, please contact your helpdesk.
I surprised that this feature are working sometimes and sometimes not (this is the truth).
does this feature need a CAL like archiving ??
    Wait a reply
    by: totallytontoPosted on 2010-06-21 at 08:39:56ID: 33037354
No you do not need a CAL for this.
Is the mailbox that you are sending as still a member of a protected group in AD?
If yes, send as permissions will be reset at random intervals and cannot be changed as long as the user is a member of the protected group.

totallytonto : I leave configure this from the EMC , instead , i use the ACL for that group in AD , in order to enable SEND AS , just tick the send as permission

  • MS Outlook 2010 Issues

I have just purchased a new laptop running Windows 8.1 and succeeded in setting up my email account in MS Outlook 2010. I’ve also been able to import all my old emails into MS Outlook 2010, but strange things are happening .
On the old laptop the Outlook email account was Pop3 / SMTP. On the new laptop Outlook has set up an IMAP account, which is constantly trying to 'sync'. Also, I can't see anything in the email folders unless I am 'online'.  I don’t really need to sync my Outlook emails with my webmail and mobile phone emails, therefore do I need an IMAP account? If possible, I would prefer to revert to Pop 3 / SMTP, can this be done ?
Another confusing issue is the number of duplicated sub-folders in MS Outlook 2010. The left hand side of my Outlook screen is as follows:
Favorites:  With the following sub-folders: ‘Inbox’, ‘Sent Items’, ‘Deleted Items’
Outlook Data File: With the following sub-folders: ‘Inbox’, ‘Drafts’ ‘Sent Items’, ‘Deleted Items’, ‘Junk Email’,  ‘Outbox’, ‘RSS Feeds’, ‘Search Folders’
My Email Address: With the following sub-folders: ‘Inbox’, ‘Drafts’, ‘Sent’, Trash’, ‘Bulk Mail’, Deleted Items’, ‘Junk Email’, ‘Post’, ‘Search Folders.
I am confused by the presence of so many duplicated sub-folders under the three main folder titles. In addition, incoming emails go into the ‘Inbox’ in My Email Address. However,if I send an email, it parks itself in the Outlook Data File ‘Outbox’ and will stay there unless I re-send it from the ‘Outbox’
I would be grateful if anyone could shed any light on any of the above.
    Solved!

All my Outlook account settings are as per your post, with the exception that I was not given the option to choose a POP3 account. It set up an IMAP account and I cant change it, as under Internet Email Settings / Server Information, the 'Account Type' box is greyed out and fixed to IMAP.  Is there any way of changing this setting ?
Regarding your query: Have you looked at the following setting for sending emai?. In settings > change > more settings, there is an option in "outgoing mail", "login before sending mail". Untick this option.
Indidentally, I have Outlook 2010, and 2013, and the mail is set at pop3 smtp, and is greyed out.
Presumably removing the 2010 account will allow the change to imap, if required.

  • How to activate Instant Messaging in Outlook 2010

    Hi,
I have a very bad habit of Instant Messaging. Currently, I am using
Microsoft Outlook 2010. Is there any instant messaging feature in Outlook? If yes, then please help me out in configuring it and using it.
    Thank you friends.

    Hi Peter,
You question is very unique and interesting. I would like to answer your query. We can very easily activate and access the Instant Messaging feature in Microsoft Outlook. Just follow the below mentioned steps: -
    Click on File---->Options---->Contacts.
A window with the name "Online Status and Photographs" will pop up on the screen. Select the check box of the options
"Display online status next to name".
By this, you will be able to use the Outlook Instant Messaging feature. Let me know, if you face any other issue.

  • Outlook 2010 wont send emails with attachments

    Hello
I was starting to write the question when we found out what the problem was. So I thought I would share our resolution in here, in case someone fall in the same issue.
One of my user with Outlook 2010 cannot send emails with attachments of some size. +-50 kb files works fine.
But when we try a file of 1mb, the mail goes in the Outbox, Exchange status swith from Connected to Disconnected and the email stay there.
The user is in a remote location, connected through VPN with the network where the Exchange 2013 server is
    Here is what I did:
    1. Re-create Outlook profile: wont work
    2. Re-create Windows profile: wont work
    3. Check ip settings: fine
    4. Try in OWA: wont work
    5. Look at Exchange settings for outgoing email size: 10mb
    6. Load my user's Outlook profile on another LAN: works fine
That last point made me thought about a potential problem on the remote user's lan. So I did
    7. Check VPN config between the remote site and IT site: fine
After googling the problem, I found that website (http://community.spiceworks.com/topic/396793-outlook-2010-client-suddenly-showing-disconnected-from-2013-exchange-server) that suggest to change the DNS setting on the client. However, the DHCP of my remote
user was the router itself, which is giving a DC as primary DNS, and ISP DNS as secondary. I changed the secondary DNS for another DC in our organization, and guess what? Voila! Problem is gone!
Thinking about it that make not much sense, as the primary DNS is always up the secondary shouldn't be queried. But that's what resolved our problem.
    Hope it helps someone!

  • Outlook 2010 for Mac cannot send.

I'm having a related, but slightly different problem: Just switched from a PC with Outlook to new iMac with core i5 and OS X (10.6.5) and Outlook 2010 for Mac to access my Verizon email. Incoming mail is 100% successful, but have been unable to send a single message. The Outlook error message says it cannot connect to Verizon's outgoing sever (outgoing.email.net), because it requires server authentication. All account setting are identical to instructions.
I have researched the Microsoft Outlook forums for server authentication issues and found primarily resolutions and recommendations to switch to various different port numbers. Tried all of these suggestions with no success. So am still looking for an assist. Is this the right thread to make that query? If not, can any of you direct me to the appropriate discussion group? Thank you!

  • Outlook 2010 Archiving Auditing

    I have this query.
Exchange 2010 environment using outlook 2010 as email client with MAPI profile.
Due to DB size constrain on Exchange server we informed several end users to archive locally.
Is there any way to figure out when(date/time) the user archived their mailboxes locally?
Can any auditing be configured on client / exchange server end to trace.
    - Charles

    Hello Charles,
Thanks for your question. To my knowledge, we cannot accomplish this on Outlook client end, you might want to look into server side.
What's the service pack level of your Exchange 2010 server? You can leverage the
Mailbox Audit Logging feature on Exchange server. By enabling this feature, you can audit lots of actions on the mailbox, including copying items to the Personal Archive, HardDelete...

  • Send Email Form InfoPath and Vote for outlook 2010

    Hi all ,
you know if it is possible to send mail with infopath form (not in attached) by peoplesoft 8.51 and you can change the form with Value peoplesoft. And if it's possbile to send vote outlook by peoplesoft (http://www.technipages.com/outlook-2010-2007-send-a-vote-email.html ) ?
    Thanks in advance.

Typically, the form submits to a script that formats the
    email and then
sends it. This script could either be on the same page as the
    form (in
which case it would only fire if the form has been submitted)
    or it can be
on a separate page that is targeted in the action attribute
    of the <form>
    tag.
In the processing script, you would need to build the
    recordset, add the
password from the recordset to the email and then send it.
    Does that help?

I would suggest that you might fix you Office installation.  I just scanned through my folders and no system has more than two files,
The temp folders on all versions of Office from 2003 to yhr present will be located here:
    %userprofiile%\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Windows\Temporary Internet Files\Content.Outlook
On XP and 2003 they should be here:
    %userprofile%\Local Settings\Temporary Internet Files\Content.Outlook
Delete everythingin that folder. Outlook will create a new secure folder the next time it is opened.
Any file with attachments in you inbox will likely download the attachments again.  YOU should not use inbox for storage.  Move mail to a folder you don't open often.  Set outlook to not download attachments.
If Outlook is not working correctly it may leave files behind when it closes.

    Hi,
For the past 2 days I cannot recieve or send emails at all on one of my laptops but on the other it does work fine. They both have the same set ups using MS Outlook 2010 but the other latop is on Windows 7 and this one is on windows 8.1 which does not work and I'm thinking it may have something to do with windows 8.1 which has happened over the past couple of days maybe an update or something that has caused the problems but I dont know what, the only thing I have been doing is resetting my equipment router/modem becuase I have been having speed issues with Infinity and I am waiting on BT to fix the issue, could it be that should I reset the equipment again and try outlook 2013? or also could it be something I have changed in the Home Hub 5 options?. sorry I really don't know what couold of happened?
I get this error when just pressing recieve mail:-
    Operation Timed out POP server.
When I just try to test account I get:

It started happening about 2 days ago. Does anyone know why this is going on? Thanks.

I have installed all updates to Office 2010, I have even updated to pro plus thinking 2010 might be the problem, not compatible with Widnows 8.1 but still the same annoying issue pops up!. Its driving me mad, I cannot solve the problem.
Will not work direct to the hub either
Now here's more to add to the mystery.
I have just unplugged the usb wi fi adaptor, after 10 days of use, and activated the atheros internal laptop wireless adaptor.
(It's a reasonably specced Windows 7 HP laptop)
Outlook 2013 now sends and receives, and with a much quicker response than the with the usb.
Not much consolation for your problem, perhaps. But it may be just a case of waiting.
It's one for the networking experts, I think.
There's been problems in the past connecting to the BBC homepage, which can go on for several days then just "goes away".

  • Save As Dialog Not Showing when opening pdf from Outlook 2010

    Hi
I have recently had to change the default documents folder on a windows 7 machine (Right Click Documents, properties,  include folder, set save location). Since this change, when opening an attached pdf document in outlook 2010 and viewing with adobe reader, if i click Save as from the file menu, no os dialog appears and therefore user cannot choose a place to save the document.
As a work around the user can right click the attachment save the docment to a location, once opened, ther save as dialog is usable.
I have uninstalled and re-installed reader to the laterst version, but with no luck.
    Any ideas?
    Jason Congerton

This looks like a new behavior of Outlook 2010 and isn't specific to PDFs. You will need to "save as" the document. There is a thread at Microsoft forums about this with some possible workarounds:

  • Cannot send email from Outlook 2010 without disabling iCloud Outlook Add-in

I have seen a few discussions on this but no answers. I have bought a new PC. Installed Outlook 2010 and iCloud latest version 3. All seems to work fine but emails go into the Outbox and dont get any further. If I remove the iCloud Outlook Add-in then I can send my emails but of course now cannot see my contacts nor my calendar! So it's one or the other and I'm currently going backwards and forwards between each. I have uninstalled and gone back to an earlier version 2 of iCloud with no success, same problem. I have uninstalled that and now reinstalled version 3. The problem remains. Can you advise on how to solve this please?

Then it has nothing to do with iCloud, contact Bell and if they can't help, Microsoft

  • Outlook 2010 - Multiple Exchange Accounts - Won't send from second account

I've setup multiple exchange accounts in Outlook 2010.  I receive fine for both accounts, but cannot send from second account.  Sent email goes to the Outbox and stays there.
I've tried going back to a second profile, and it works fine.  Mail in Outbox from efforts above stay in Outbox.  If I pull them up, I can resend with no issue.
I need to be able to send with multiple accounts in same profile to do other projects I'm currently working on.  Any ideas???
    Thanks,
    Mike

I was able to fix this with Outlook 2010 Service Pack 1.
Another area that I had to change was the inbox for that other account I created a rule to put in the primary inbox folder (email 2).
After that the email was only checking one to send and recieve based on the highlighted account, so to resolved that I went to Send/Reveive Groups > Define Groups > Edit Account Properties and made sure they refresh every 1 minute(s).
    solutions are not always answers

  • I am using Outlook 2010 and have a iphone 4s.  In Outlook I have issues with my contacts not being the same as what I have corrected them to be.  Is there a way to check and see which file Outlook is sharing with I-cloud?

I am using Outlook 2010 and I also use a Iphone 4s. I use Outlook to correct all my contacts and them it sync with my phone BUT I get different variations of the contacts.  Almost as if there is another file it is going to.  Can I check to see which file it is reading from??
