MS OutlookExpress: Can't connect to POP or IMAP

Hi,
I successfully configured Convergence and login with specified user with full functionality (send, receive).
Problem is that I can't connect to mail server using MS OutlookExpress (POP or IMAP).
Answers are:
POP3: Unable to logon to the server using Secure Password Authentication. Account: 'mail.observer.rs', Server: 'mail.observer.rs', Protocol: POP3, Server Response: '.', Port: 110, Secure(SSL): No, Error Number: 0x800CCC18
IMAP: Not authorized to log in as specified user
Configuration:
Account: mail.observer.rs (1)
Server: mail.observer.rs
User name: mihailo.milosavljevic
Protocol: IMAP
Port: 143
Secure(SSL): 0
Code: 800cccd1
Telnet tests on these ports are successful also.
I think that problem might by on storing passwords (PLAIN or crypt.) but I can't resolve it.

These are the service names for IMAPS port (993) and POPS port (995). The back-end store processes don't recognise these service names however which an make using the mercury package -- well "tricky".

Can't choose between POP or IMAP email account.

I deleted my email account in Mail because I was having trouble receiving new emails. I was hoping that by reentering it in Mail Accounts it would fix the problem. When I entered it, it automatically set it up as an IMAP account instead of a POP acount like I had. I can send and receive emails just fine, but would prefer to have a POP account. Everything I read about setting up new accounts says you get the option to choose one or the other, but for the life of me I can't make it do it. I have a MacBook and am running Mac OS X. Version 10.6.8.

I found a workaround to force an account to be POP3 rather than IMAP when both are available on a server. This option may not be available to everyone, but you can set up an email account on the iPad for a server that ONLY supports POP3. Once the iPod sets up that account, you can go back and change all the parameters of that account to point to the account you really want that does both POP3 and IMAP. The iPad will continue to treat the editted account as POP3 rather than IMAP.

Mail setup can't connect to server. IMAP error?

I'm trying to setup Mail. I get the error message "Logging in to the q.com IMAP server "mail.q.com" failed." Same error for gmail. The user name and password are correct - I went to the website and can log in. What is the problem? I've setup Mail on other computers without problem. The auto-setup doesn't give any options for troubleshooting.

Good afternoon. For over a week I can't get email on MY DASH. Can't see mail in my Gmail Viewer. Get a POP3 error ... can't connect to POP server. Thought it may be a Gmail interface issue so tried to get Hotmail and then Earthlink email in the Chumby email app. Both give same message POP3 Error , can't connect to pop3 server. I have done multiplr hard restarts / power off / "restore to normal operation" procedures. I have searched the discussions and community and can find no mention of POP server issues. Please help .... advise. I'm a disabled, but still working, senior citizen without a fancy, internet, cell phone and my Dash's ability to display my email is very important to me. 10.5.2 Mail cannot connect to intranet Linux mail Server. POP or IMAP

Does anyone have any suggestion ? Haven't been able to get MAIL to connect (either POP or IMAP) to the intranet email Server. If I Telnet the server on 192.168.1.1 110 or 192.168.1.1 143 I get instant connection, MAIL on the other hand just keeps on spinning. Connection Doctor has not helped either, after a few minutes I get red lights. Checked and rechecked all settings, deleted account and recreated account to no avail. Tried running Thunderbird with same settings and everything works fine ! The Linux email server is running Fedora 7 / Cyrus IMAP server. Runs both protocols (IMAP on port 143 and POP on port 110).

Be sure Safari does not have the Block Pop-Up Windows preference set.
Where I work now there are several unencrypted VLANs that require authentication, and Safari promptly pops up a window for me to register every time.

You have bought the book but have you previously downloaded it to your iPad? If you go to your books collection and there is a little cloud icon on the cover of the book with a down arrow that means it's not stored on your device and you would need an internet connection to read/download it. If that's not the problem and Demo's suggestions don't work how about trying this desperate move: Settings > Airplane Mode (turn on) And try again. Do you have other downloaded books in your collection? If so do they act the same way or do they open ok? If they open then there is something corrupt about that particular book in which case I would delete it and re download it when you have access to the internet.

Is Yahoo your Internet provider? Do you have a local provider? ei:AT&T, SBC, cable co, check who you make your check or epatment to...etc, If so I would start there, but if no joy go to the "Mothership"
I may be wrong about this, (it's been a long time now) I may have deleted my mail account from Mail (after writing down all the info from all General/accounts, and the rest of the tabs, and then added a new account using my existing email address, and it may have "walked me thru the rest of the proceedure".
But like I said it was a long time ago 3-4 years, but that may have been the path I ended up taking, make sure to write all the info down in case you need to re-enter it all manually. Then try calling them.

When setting up new godaddy pop mail account, I get this error: Internet Accounts preferences can't connect to the account

Trying to set-up new godaddy mail account. Walked through it with the godaddy rep, so the settings are correct. It is a pop account and I merely want it to function within Mail. (I have other accounts like it that work with no problem.) However, when I try to go online with the account, I get this error message: "Internet Accounts Preferences can't connect to the account..." It then prompts me to enter the password for the account and says it is "Unable to verify account or password."
Godaddy says it is an Apple Mail issue because the account works fine in their Workspace. I sent test messages and when I login at godaddy, the messages are there. However, for some reason, Mail won't connect to it. Any ideas?

Yes. The account is there. There's just a verification with password issue. I had to change my password at Godaddy to include caps, special character, etc., and reinstall the account. Then I had to tweet the settings a bit. But think I have it resolved. Thanks.

works just fine for me using hotmail over pop
so maybe your pop3 provider changed their settings or your firewall is blocking the ones they use
