MS Project 2010 cut and paste 255 characters in notes column field into MS Excel

I need to copy and paste notes fields in MS Project 2010 which have more than 255 characters into MS Excel and I want all the text to paste into MS Excel (ie >255 characters). I need to be able to do this for at least a text column and the notes column
as I can do a lookup from there. So to recap I need to copy and paste the contents of 2 columns including the notes column into Excel and paste all the text >255 characters. I know how to do this cell by cell however this is not feasible for a large
plan on a weekly basis. It sounds so simple if you know how!

John,
I agree that note field will accept more than 255 characters. May be in my comment i have written "Both" that is confusing. Limit is only for text column.
Some time note field  may give some issues refer to http://support.microsoft.com/kb/169726

    I use classical Hebrew for my work, and Pages will only display English characters even with a Hebrew font selected. If I cut and paste Hebrew characters from another document, as long as the font is supported, it will appear in Pages.  If I type it won't continue in Hebrew.  I have tried downloading several fonts, including those from professional societies, but the only way to get Hebrew in my document is to cut and paste.  Does anyone know how to fix this?  I use an older MacBook running OS 10.9.1.  I used to do my Hebrew work in Word, but it is no longer supported by Mac OS.

    Just clarifying:
    Pages '09 has bad support for Hebrew, Arabic etc but will accept pasted text.
    Pages 5 has much better support but with bugs.
    If you have columns they are in the wrong order ie Text starts in the left column and ends in the right column.
    If you type English into Hebrew text it tends to fall in the wrong position eg instead of to the left of Hebrew punctuation it goes to the right.
    As Tom recommends the only real solution on the Mac is Mellel.

    btw Tell Apple, they are amazingly slow to fix this running sore which has been broken since RtoL was supposedly introduced in OSX 10.2.3 over a decade ago.

  • Project Server / Project Pro = Cut and Paste official best practices to avoid corruption

    It is pretty common knowledge among Project Server veterans that Cut and Paste between Project Pro files can cause corruption with the assignment table. This leads to Publish and Reporting (Project Publish)
    failures. I just went through an upgrade from Project Server 2007 to 2013 and a LOT of files had to be rebuilt from scratch.
    I ask my users to not Cut and Paste within or between project files. They do not always listen.
    I have looked and cannot find official Microsoft text on the subject or at least some sort of official best practices doc. It would help me prevent some corruption if I had a doc with a Microsoft logo that says “It is not recommended….”
    Or “If you do this you will make your admin cry…”
    If this doc is right in front of me and I just missed it I apologize in advance.
    Thanks

    John --
    To the best of my knowledge, there is no such Best Practice document from Microsoft.  Based on my experience with Project Server from Project Central through Project Server 2013, following are some items that can cause corruption in your project:
    Use of special characters in the name of the project.
    Cutting/copying/pasting entire task rows within a single enterprise project or between multiple enterprise projects.
    Opening an enterprise project on your laptop while connected to a wireless network, then closing the laptop lid, walking to another room in the building when you pass from one wireless access point to another, and then opening the laptop lid again.
    I learned this from one of our former clients.
    Beyond this, there are some other items that will not corrupt your project, but which will cause problems with saving or publishing a project.  These items include:
    Using blank rows in the project.
    Using special characters in task names.
    Task names that start with a space character (this sometimes happens when copying and pasting from an Excel workbook).
    In both Project Server 2010 and 2013, the recommended method for resolving a corrupted project is to use the Save for Sharing feature. Refer to my directions in the following thread on how to use the Save for Sharing feature:
    http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/projectserver/en-US/ec2c5135-f997-40e1-8fe1-80466f86d373/task-default-changing?forum=projectprofessional2010general
    Beyond what guidance I have provided, I am hoping other members of this community will add their thoughts as well.  Hope this helps.

  • Can't cut and paste chinese characters

    I've always been able to copy chinese characters from pdfs and other documents and paste them into word or powerpoint or wenlin etc.  Suddenly the characters do not copy and paste.  I get little boxes or other dingbats.  I tried changing the font etc. but nothing works.  Is this due to an update on the OS?  How do I solve it?
    Thanks

    PDF format is very different from most other docs, in that you cannot rely on copy/paste for non-Latin scripts.  Try Adobe Reader instead of Preview (or Vice Versa) or try different pdfs.  Send me an example of one that does not work if you like (tom at bluesky dot org).
    What other format doc is not working for chinese copy/paste for you?

  • Cut and paste text on path not printing

    Hi all,
    i just tried to cut an object with text on a path from one Indesign Document and paste it into another. On screen everything looked fine but once I tried to print the file the text was not present. The same happens when I try to export to PDF.
    When I convert the type to outlines everything looks the same (on screen) but prints fine. Any Ideas what is wrong?
    regards,
    chris

    Perhaps you could build a copy to clipboard link that strings
    together all of the pieces and pastes the text to the clipboard?
    There is an example on the Flex Style Explorer
    Export All CSS (lower left of the screen)

  • When I cut and paste a word form a pdf file into the search window I get wavy lines, why is this

    I am editing a document and wish to look up words and other information. When I select and copy a word from my pdf document and paste it into firefox's search window, I do not get the word but wavy lines instead. How can I remedy this? Example: I am trying to look up Carl Jung and copied this name but when I try pasting it I get this wavy line: ␣␣␣␣␣␣␣␣␣␣

    You’re omitting essential information here, namely how exactly do you paste into the message you’re composing in Mail when it crashes. Do you paste by ctrl-clicking (or right-clicking) and choosing Paste from the contextual menu maybe? Try doing Edit > Paste (⌘V) instead; I bet Mail won’t crash if you do that.
    And I wouldn’t be surprised if you also have a plug-in or an input manager or a contextual menu item or something like that that has a bearing on this. In the Finder, go to each of the following folders (if they exist). What do you see there?
    /Library/Contextual Menu Items/
    /Library/InputManagers/
    /Library/Mail/Bundles/
    ~/Library/Contextual Menu Items/
    ~/Library/InputManagers/
    ~/Library/Mail/Bundles/
    To make accurately reporting this information easier, you may open /Applications/Utilities/Terminal, type the following command (you can just copy it here and paste it in Terminal), and press <Return>. You can then copy the output of that command from Terminal and paste it in your reply to this post:
    ls -1 /Library/Contextual\ Menu\ Items/ /Library/InputManagers /Library/Mail/Bundles ~/Library/Contextual\ Menu\ Items/ ~/Library/InputManagers ~/Library/Mail/Bundles
    Note: For those not familiarized with the ~/ notation, it refers to the user’s home folder. You can easily locate any of the folders referred to in this post by copying the folder path here, doing Go > Go to Folder in the Finder, and pasting the folder path there.

  • Cut and Paste - Data Validation - JEditorPane

    I have an editor in development that uses JEditorPane which is supposed to accept only certain characters as its input.
    Now if I use keystroke I am able to handle the input data entered using keyboard and it seems this is not a good idea :(.
    But, for cut and paste this method does not work. So my questions are,
    1) What is a good way to do data validation for Paste operations
    2) I know that I might need to have a custom document but where do I do the validation in the custom document. I have checked using print statements and for my paste operation, it seems that the insert method in document does not get called.
    3) Is using system clipboard and checking the text before insertion a better option.
    4)What exactly happens when paste ie control C is pressed or paste from menu is clicked. I mean sequence of method calls.
    I know I have asked many questions but answers to any of them will be highly appreciated !!
    Thanks a lot for your help in advance :)

    In my application, I subclass JTextField but you should be able to change it to JEditorPane. Here is a snippet of code that you need:
    public class myTextField extends JTextField implements ClipboardOwner {
       public boolean processKeyBinding(KeyStroke ks, KeyEvent e, int condition, boolean pressed) {
          if (ks==KeyStroke.getKeyStroke(KeyEvent.VK_V,2)) {     // CTRL-V (paste text from clipboard)
             pasteText();
             return true;
          }   // there is more to my code but this will do
          return super.processKeyBinding(ks,e,condition,pressed);
       private void pasteText() {
          try {
             Transferable contents=clipboard.getContents(this);
             if (contents==null) return;
             int i=getCaretPosition();
             String line=(String)contents.getTransferData(DataFlavor.stringFlavor);
             String tmp=getText();
             int sStart=getSelectionStart();
             int sEnd=getSelectionEnd();
             if (sStart>=0) {
                setText(tmp.substring(0,sStart)+line+tmp.substring(sEnd));
                i=sStart;
             } else {
                if (i<tmp.length()) line+=tmp.substring(i);
                setText(tmp.substring(0,i)+line);
             sEnd=Math.min(i+line.length(),getText().length());
             setCaretPosition(sEnd);
             select(i,sEnd);
          } catch (Throwable t) {
             if (ExtDB!=null) ExtDB.setError("",t);
       public void lostOwnership(Clipboard cb, Transferable transferable) {
    }The above has been formatted to look pretty, the following is more suitable for cut-n-paste:
    public class myTextField extends JTextField implements ClipboardOwner {
       public boolean processKeyBinding(KeyStroke ks, KeyEvent e, int condition, boolean pressed) {
          if (ks==KeyStroke.getKeyStroke(KeyEvent.VK_V,2)) {     // CTRL-V (paste text from clipboard)
             pasteText();
             return true;
          }   // there is more to my code but this will do
          return super.processKeyBinding(ks,e,condition,pressed);
       private void pasteText() {
          try {
             Transferable contents=clipboard.getContents(this);
             if (contents==null) return;
             int i=getCaretPosition();
             String line=(String)contents.getTransferData(DataFlavor.stringFlavor);
             String tmp=getText();
             int sStart=getSelectionStart();
             int sEnd=getSelectionEnd();
             if (sStart>=0) {
                setText(tmp.substring(0,sStart)+line+tmp.substring(sEnd));
                i=sStart;
             } else {
                if (i<tmp.length()) line+=tmp.substring(i);
                setText(tmp.substring(0,i)+line);
             sEnd=Math.min(i+line.length(),getText().length());
             setCaretPosition(sEnd);
             select(i,sEnd);
          } catch (Throwable t) {
             if (ExtDB!=null) ExtDB.setError("",t);
       public void lostOwnership(Clipboard cb, Transferable transferable) {
    }This will force the paste action to trigger a call to insertString.
    ;o)
    V.V.
    PS: my preference for the use of processKeyBinding has been labled inappropriate, the proper method according to the experts in this forum is to use a combination of InputMap/ActionMap.... so, you decide what you want to do.

    OS X is all about keyboard shortcuts.
    To cut       cmd+x
    To copy     cmd+c
    To paste    cmd+v
    With the Mouse, hold command and drag to your destination.

  • Clipboard cut and paste default font?

    Hi! Whenever I cut and paste from the web or another document into either MS Word or Aol it always pastes in the Chicago font...even though I've got Word programmed to paste in Times or Unformatted. My wife, who has the same computer and same program, doesn't have this problem. If she drags something from the web it drags exactly as it looks. I've even completely trashed my MS Word and put hers in but it still pastes as Chicago. The fact that it does this in AOL too makes me think that it is a Mac setting and not a specific software setting. Any clues?

    If you hold the Mac key and highlight the pieces of text you want, you can then paste that into wherever you wish it.
    Note: Each "piece" of text will be on a separate line. At least I came across that in TextEdit.
    Good luck.

  • Cut and paste hebrew

    I am unable to cut and paste Hebrew from a Microsoft Word document into Illustrator CS6.  When I do, the text is flipped and is pasted left to right, rather than right to left.  Does Illustrator CC have international language support to allow one to cut and paste Hebrew?
    Thank You.

    Thank You.  I will look into using the ScribeDOOR plugin to use with my Illustrator CS6.
    Work in many languages in Adobe Illustrator with ScribeDOOR
    I do not have a Creative Cloud license.

  • UDI wizard - cut and paste items

    Using SCCM 2012 with MDT 2012. I currently have a custom HTA that I use to gather task sequence variables, but I'd like to use the UDI wizard. I want to prune to it right down to be as "zero-touch" as possible. Currently the only information I
    gather is the computer Name, MDT role and X86 or X64 image so trying to replicate that
    If I customise the page for New Computer Details for example I don't want the Network details or Join Domain credentials so ideally I'd like to cut and paste the Computer Name Settings bit only into a custom page

  • Is it possible to copy and paste a review quiz from on book into another?

    I have a number of quizzes in an ibook which I have been using as a sand box.
    There are 10 questions in each quiz.
    I have copied and pasted a lot of the material from the trial ibook into a new book.
    I would like to copy and paste the quizzes from the first book into the new new ibook also.
    Is this possible?

    Its possible to make a duplicate of the quiz within an ibook, but I have tried CUT and PASTE but it does not work even though they are both colored black in the menu.
    As CUT and PASTE are colored black, I thought that it might somehow be possible to copy them from one ibook to another.
    I can copy the complete section containing the quiz from the first ibook to the second ibook. If I could then copy the review quiz to the appropriate section in the second ibook, and then delete the copied section, it might work.
    However, it still will not copy and paste the review quiz, only make a duplicate next to the original quiz.

  • Why can't I cut and paste photos between project?

    I recently made the transition from iPhoto to Aperture. One of the weird things is that I can't cut and paste photos between projects. In iPhoto this is an easy way to organize your projects if some photos are in the wrong place.
    You also can't split projects, in iPhoto you can do this easily. Say, if two day's photos ending being in the same project, in iPhoto there's a button that you split them in the middle. Is there something like this in Aperture?

    Copy and Paste:
    In iPhoto "copy and paste" was possible, because it was not possible in the early versions, to see both projects at the same time, the one you are moving from, and the one you are moving to.
    In Aperture you simply drag from the source project to the destination project to move image versions around. Also, it is easy to see more than one project in the Browser at the same time, see: Aperture 3 User Manual: Working with Two or More Browsers Open
    To drag to another project, select the images in the project, then drag to the other project in the source list, for example:
    To split a project, select the images you want to have in the split part, then create a new project from these images: Enable the check mark "Move selected items to new project". This will split the original project.

  • Cutting and pasting tables from one project to another

    When cutting and pasting existing tables from one project to
    another, the line weights for the cell borders seem to vary at
    random - some are the original line weight and some are heavier
    when pasted.
    I've tried sorting things out with the table properties
    dialogue, but to no effect.
    Is there a quick fix, or am I better importing in whole
    topics and then editing the imported topic?

    Hi Colum/Peter,
    It's not a custom table, I just need to copy an existing
    table from one project to another.
    My blasted developers (may the fleas of a thousand camels,
    etc), just decided to change the toolbars in one of our
    applications. As this toolbar appears in slightly different guises
    in about 6 tabs, I was trying to update the table that shows what
    icon does what and cut and paste that table into all the sub
    projects I have. Each table then only needs a minor edit for a few
    icons specific to that sub-project.
    Peter's on the right track. When I cut and pasted the table
    it also pasted in a number of lines of HTML associated with the
    styles in the other project. If I delete those lines, the table
    then appears as it should.
    Thanks for prompt response

  • Cut and Paste with MS Project Pro 2013

    We have and issue where if we try to Copy and Paste a task in MS Project Pro 2013, the PASTE option is not highlighted and we cannot do this. We can copy and paste field in the project but not a task. The task include enterprise fields and I tried to Cut
    and Paste even in off-line mode and it does not work.
    Anybody has an idea?

    Hi Johan,
    This normally happens when a sort is applied to the view. Sorting by ID then solves the problem.
