MS "Security Alert" appearing randomly on Skype

Hello, this is my first time posting here, so please excuse any mistakes in formatting and what not. I am having an issue with Skype for desktop where I will get the "security alert" text box at random times, which is quite annoying at times when I am in a fullscreen application. Not a software genious, but I believe it may have something to do with internet explorer even though I never use it.
Solved!
Go to Solution.

What version of Windows are you on (XP, Vista, Windows 7, Windows 8 )? Is it 32-bit or 64-bit?
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/827218
What is the version of Internet Explorer installed on your computer?
In Internet Explorer go to Help -> About Internet Explorer.
Do you have the latest Adobe Flash Player for Interneet Explorer installed?
What do you see when you open this link in your Internet Explorer?

P.S. Please, don’t say that you are not using Internet Explorer. This is irrelevant. Skype depends on Internet Explorer.

  • Click to call , annoying security alert

    Hi,
I have installed "click to call" and regarding calls when I use this application everything is fine. BUT ...   every time I want to place calls using click to call, security alert appears on the screen although I have installed CUCM certificate .
How to resolve this annoying thing ???
    Thanks,...

I had this issue, and found that the "certificate issued by" and the website i was trying to go to (the webdialer service) were not exactly the same.
    for example.
In the Click to call preferences the webdialer service was set to "ccm01" , which is correct.
the certificate was issued by ccm01.domain.com  which is also correct.
However when comparing the certificate issuer with the webdialer service they don't match.
SO in the preferences set the webdialer to the fully qualified domain name of the server.
Second issue I had was that I could not change it easily.  I found that if Outlook was still running, I could not make the change.
Exit all applications that might be using C2C.
Even if you exit on the tray icon, it will still be running.
I actually changed my setting in the registry before I realized this.
    Good Luck

When I open the application the following alert appears: "Could not initialize the application's security component. The most likely cause is problems with files in your application's profile directory." There is a solution on the support site but only for Windows-based Firefox, and I'm a Mac user. I have plenty of room on my hard disk.

In Mac OS X v10.7, the $HOME/Library folder is a hidden folder.
Open Finder and use one of these:
    * Go > Go To Folder (Shift-Command-G) and in the dialog type: ~/Library
    * Open the "Go" menu and hold down the Option key to make the Library appear
You can also use this command in a Terminal window to remove the hidden flag.
    * Mac HD > Applications > Utilities > Terminal
    * chflags nohidden ~/Library

Occasionally, a browser window may pop up with a scam message. Common pop-ups include a message saying the government has seized your computer and you must pay to have it released (often called "Moneypak"), or a phony message saying that your computer has been infected, and you need to call a tech support number (sometimes claiming to be Apple) to get it resolved. First, understand that these pop-ups are not caused by a virus, and your computer has not been affected. This "hijack" is limited to your web browser. Also understand that these messages are scams, so do not pay any money, call the listed number, or provide any personal information. Most of these scammers, if you actually call the number, will ask you to install software giving them remote control over your computer. Do not do this either. This article will outline the solution to dismiss the pop-up.
    Quit Safari
Though you will probably have to quit Safari, you can first try closing the tab by pressing Command + W. Sometimes, however, these pop-ups will not go away by attempting to close the tab, nor by clicking "OK" or "Cancel." Furthermore, several menus in the menu bar may become disabled and show in gray, including the option to quit Safari. You will likely have to force quit Safari. To do this, press Command + option + esc, select Safari, and press Force Quit.
    Relaunch Safari
If you relaunch Safari, the page will reopen. To prevent this from happening, hold down the 'Shift' key while opening Safari. This will prevent windows from the last time Safari was running from reopening.
This will not work in all cases. The shift key must be held at the right time, and in some cases, even if done correctly, the window reappears. In these circumstances, after force quitting Safari, turn off Wi-Fi or disconnect Ethernet, depending on how you connect to the Internet. Then relaunch Safari normally. It will try to reload the malicious webpage, but without a connection, it won't be able to. Navigate away from that page by entering a different URL, i.e. www.apple.com, and trying to load it. Now you can reconnect to the Internet, and the page you entered will appear rather than the malicious one.
    None of this Worked!
If pressing Command + W does not work, and force quitting Safari and restarting the application with the Shift key held down does not get rid of the pop-up you will have to reset Safari. Normally, this can be done by launching Safari, then in the menu bar, going to Safari > Reset Safari. However, most pop-ups of this variety will block access to many of the drop-down menus in the menu bar. You will need to locate a file on the computer and move it to the trash. Make sure you quit Safari first (force quit if necessary).
To start, open Finder. The press Command + Shift + G, or in the menu bar, select Go > Go to Folder. Type the following file path:
    ~/Library/Preferences
Look for a file named com.apple.Safari.plist, and drag it to the trash. Then restart your Mac. After it reboots, try launching Safari. A new preferences file should have been automatically created, so no more action is required on your part, and the pop-up should now be gone.
    The Source of the Scam
In addition to the FBI scam, there are a few webpages with bogus technical support pop-ups or "security alerts," claiming you have a virus as described earlier. These webpages include but are not limited to:

    helpmetek.com

  • Air application throws security alert every time 'HTTPS' request made to server.

Have a look at the following screenshot.
On click of next button, application internally sends an https request. Appliction throws Security Alert dialog. The text can also be seen clearly.
Strange thing about this alert dialog is that, it appears every time when application send a request in given session.
If I run the same thing in flex (i.e. in browser), it asks for SSL handshake and that is also only once. So why it is happening here in case of Air.
    Regards,
    Prithvee Zankat.

Back up all data. From the Safari menu bar, select
    Safari ▹ Reset Safari...
    Check these boxes:
    Clear history
    Remove all website data
Uncheck all other boxes. Press return. Test.
If Safari crashes immediately on launch and you can't do as above, hold down the shift key and launch it by clicking its icon in the Dock, then try. Failing that, ask for guidance.

  • When attenption to run a Java (lasted version) app, warning security box appears (no text displayed) and then Firefox is totally locked

Using Vista, Foxfire 18.0.1 runs fine until attempting to access a site that need Java to display information. Now with the recent security warning, I first get a screen that that indicated "This plug in has security vulnerabilities -- Click here to activate Java Platform SE & U Platform."
When I click to activate, another box appears the indicates security warning. Only the box appears and at that point Foxfire is totally locked up. At that point I need to go the Task Master to kill Foxfire as well as the security popup window.
The Java Control Panel indicates that I have the latest version of Java.
    Suggestions?

You can bypass the first Firefox "Click to Play" prompt for trusted sites by setting Firefox to always activate plugins for specific sites - see [[How to use Java if it's been blocked]]
The second prompt is from Java itself, since the default security level has been increased to "High" in Java 7 Update 11. Ref:
    * [http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/java/javase/7u11-relnotes-1896856.html Java 7 Update 11 release notes]
*Oracle's [http://docs.oracle.com/javase/7/docs/technotes/guides/jweb/jcp.html#security Java Control Panel documentation (Security)]
From the Java 7 Update 11 release notes:
    Bug Fixes
This release contains fixes for security vulnerabilities. For more information, see Oracle Security Alert for CVE-2013-0422.
In addition, the following change has been made:
    Area: deploy
Synopsis: Default Security Level Setting Changed to High
The default security level for Java applets and web start applications has been increased from "Medium" to "High". This affects the conditions under which unsigned (sandboxed) Java web applications can run. Previously, as long as you had the latest secure Java release installed applets and web start applications would continue to run as always. With the "High" setting the user is always warned before any unsigned application is run to prevent silent exploitation.
It might help if you could post a link to some of the sites where Firefox locks up after you get the second security prompt, so that other users with Java 7 Update 11 can check it out. (I'm using Java 6 Update 38 so I don't get that second Java security prompt)

  • Firefox 2.0.0.8 = security alert when calling a Java applet method

I have a JavaHelp applet that I launch using a method that I called
from JavaScript when a user clicks on a link.
A problem I found with Firefox 2.0.0.8 and JRE 1.4 is that when I
click on the link it will try to display a security alert window, but
the window appears to freeze up when it is being displayed and hangs
the browser. For example, I cannot see any of the buttons that should
be on the security window. Rather the main window is empty. However,
if my applet exposes a button that the user can directly click, the
security window displays properly and can be dismissed.
With the same JavaHelp applet, the link works fine if I use it Firefox
2.0 and JRE 1.6 or JRE 1.5, and with IE 6.0 and IE 7.0. I uninstalled
and reinstalled Firefox with JRE 1.4, and I couldn't reproduce the
problem. However, I'm concerned that this problem may resurface in
    the future.
Has anyone ever seem a similar problem? And if so, are there any easy
    workarounds?

    >
I have a JavaHelp applet.. >I suggest you launch it using Java Web Start (JWS).
Here is a test of a direct launch of the HelpButton JavaHelp applet.
    <http://www.physci.org/jh/test.html#launch>
It would only take minor changes to the code to make the button entirely redundant, and have the code automatically launch the HelpViewer, once the user clicks the link to the JNLP launch file.
That 'JavaHelp/JWS' page is my test page for launching JavaHelp in a variety of forms.

Dear users of AIO 610-1270, is anyone has  experience with blurry and fuzzy screen appearing randomely, black color is disapiring in favor of red, you can see on attached photos.
I upgraded video drivers, but is was helpful for very short time only.
I checked computer's video using hp support assistant, no erroes beenrepotred even screen was blurry and fuzzy durring checking.
I would appreciate any help in this mater

     610-1270uk
    PN: LN617EZ#ABU
    i7, 6mb RAM, 2Tb HD 23"touch screen, graphic AMD Radeon HD6450A

I have several thousand photos in several folders. I have noticed that whenever I want to change the folder used as the side show source, it takes the Screen Saver Preference pane a very long time to respond. It is as if it is scanning all the photos in the currently assigned folder in order to display them in the preview window provided, and it gets so dogged down doing that it can't respond to my clicks on the Choose Folder option.
Assuming you don't want to redistribute your photos into a greater number of folders or subfolders so there would be fewer in each folder to process, you could try a workaround. Try moving your currently-assigned folder to your desktop temporarily, before opening the Screen Saver preference pane. If the preference pane can't find the old folder, it may immediately ask you to choose a new one. You could hopefully then do so, close the preference pane, and then put back the old folder.
It's my understanding that there will be no future updates to Tiger, only security fixes.

  • Firefox master password prompt appears randomly

Every time I open Firefox, the Master Password prompt appears randomly within about 30 seconds. Sometimes I'm still sitting on the home screen when I get the prompt.
I have tried to refresh Firefox, reinstall Firefox, I've turned my Master Password requirement on and off, restarted the computer... nothing seems to work.
I would either like the prompt right away, as soon as I open my browser, or when it is actually required, like when I open a login page. Not the current, seemingly random appearance that disrupts me in the middle of web browsing.
This bug is so annoying that it is a deal breaker for me. It's especially annoying when I am starting to type something, then the Master Password prompt appears without warning and takes the cursor focus with it. I have to stop what I'm doing, deal with the Master Password prompt, then get back to what I'm doing.
In the meantime, I've switched over to Chrome, which is serving my needs fine, but I would like to come back to Firefox if I can resolve this issue.

    Hi Will,
    Are you using Firefox Sync?
In order to keep your sync login details secure, you have to unlock your master password before Firefox can synchronise.

  • AT&T netbios security alert: port 922

Wondering how to address this AT&T security alert:
AT&T has received information indicating that one or more devices using your Internet connection may have NetBIOS services exposed to the Internet. This usually means that the firewall on your router, wireless router, or computer is disabled or misconfigured. The IP address 162.234.253.XX was observed responding to NetBIOS requests on port 922/udp on Aug 5, 2014 at 11:57 PM EDT. Our records indicate that this IP address was assigned to you at this time. More details appear below.
For security and privacy reasons, NetBIOS services should not be made available from the public Internet. They can be used to gain information about your computers, and can also be used by malicious actors to perform denial of service attacks. Please ensure that the firewall is enabled on your router or computer, and that inbound and outbound traffic on the affected ports are blocked (135/udp through 138/udp, 445/udp, and 139/tcp for Microsoft Windows; see details below for additional ports that may need to be blocked).
Time capsule connected to AT&T router: Motorola NVG510
    What are your ideas?

There is a thread here about it already. It might be worth a read.
Time Capsule respond to NetBOIS request port 922
The issues does not seem to be the Apple routers on the network. Certainly no NetBios on port 922 is open.
ATT support needs to do more work on its own equipment it seems.

My Iphone has family emails that appear randomly when I try to update apps or generally have to log into my account. It comes up as my sister in laws address. She was once connected to our account when she got her phone at first. How can I remove? There are only two other email address's associated with my account and hers was never one of them! I do have a cloud set up on my phone. I thought this issue had gone away when I canged my passwords, but I just registered a new phone yesterday and its happening again!
    Can anyone help me?

Apps are permanently tied to the Apple ID used to purchase them, and all future updates will require you to enter the password associated with this ID, whether you are currently using this ID for purchases or not.  If you are being prompted for your sister-in-law's Apple ID when updating it means that there must be one or more apps on your phone that was purchased using her Apple ID.  (When she synced with your computer it may have transferred this app to your library.  It was subsequently synced to your phone.)  The only way to stop the prompt for her ID is to delete these apps from your phone and your iTunes library and repurchase them using your Apple ID.

  • Reader X - Getting Security Alert with a data filled PDF form

My site uses PDF forms that have their data filled in dynamically by the classic asp code on the site. Before Reader X version, they were filled and displayed without a problem. With Reader X they display the security warning: "Data from this site is blocked to avoid potential security risks....." and the Options button to trust the site. I get this even thoguh it's the same site they are on already and I'm using an SSL cert for all files and I'm also using a direct link to generate the PDF.
I know the user can just click the options and make the problem go away but many users seem unable to read and or panic when they see the alert.
Is there a security setting or trust setting I can add or set in my form so that I will not get this security alert??

No, apart from creating a certified document, but the user would still have to add you as a trusted source. If a document could override this, it would be rather pointless to have it in the first place.
