MS Wired Keyboard 600 and iMac

On an iMac 3.06GHz Core 2 Duo 4GB RAM, I'm using the MicroSoft Wired Keyboard 600. Often on booting/rebooting--or even sometimes after waking from sleep--keyboard won't work. Unplugging USB connector doesn't always work, so I have to shut down and start all over. Not using Intellitype. Suggestions? Thank you.

You downloaded what Microsoft's menu based webpage suggests should be the right drivers. Does it add a system preference to control your keyboard in Apple menu -> System Preferences? Does it add an application or a utility in your Applications folder? If neither, post here to find out if it is compatible with your version of 10.6:

  • Wired Keyboard on 2014 iMac not working

    Hi there,
I have a lab containing 25 x 27" 2014 imacs. During a morning start up roughly 6 out of the 25 (and usually different ones each time) will be unable to detect the wired apple keyboard that is attached. All USB ports on every machine are working correctly. To resolve this issue, sometimes it works by just swapping the ports, sometimes a full reboot will do it, other times it comes down to swapping the keyboard with its neighbouring iMac (even if both are not detected) and miraculously they both are now detected.
Resetting SMC and PRAM does not fix the issue.
What is going on? All these keyboards work fine when attached to a 2011 iMac running the same OS (Mavericks.)
    Thanks,
    Dudley

Reset the SMC and PRAM 2-3 times back to back using the following instructions:
    iMac SMC and PRAM reset
If that does not work, try using another wired keyboard.

  • Aluminium wired keyboard problem with iMac

Just bought an Aluminium wired keyboard for my 2.66ghz iMac 20". When I press shift 3 for the £ sign, I get a #
If I press alt and 3, I get the £. How can I get this working as it shows on the keyboard?
    Allan

Ah, got it working properly, changed the input language from US to British. If only that would work with Google!
But, any idea where on the keyboard I got a smiley face from when i was checking which keys produced which symbols with the alt then shift keys.

  • IPod,  iTunes Syncing on Leopard + Apple Wired Keyboard = Hang and problems

Sorry for the cryptic topic title but I search liked crazy and through several different sites I managed to hobble together a configuration that reproduces my problem. Maybe those terms will helps others...
Anyway, I have Mac Pro with OS X 10.5 (Leopard) and a 5G video iPod. Just recently during iTunes syncing it began to randomly hang quite early on in the process. No itunes is still responsive but it just stays on the same song forever, never making any progress. I did restore, auto vs. manual, disk space enable/disable every combination of iTunes and iPod settings I could try.
The crazy part is that I HAVE fixed the problem but I wanted Apple and others to know what to do and that is needs to be fixed correctly
Recently (same time iTunes started failing) I got the new Apple wired keyboard (love it!) but it IS the problem (or rather the combination of stuff). If I just unplug that keyboard during the iTunes sync it works every time, plug it back in and it hangs again next time iTunes syncs.
So maybe someone else is having this problem, I hope you find this forum and I hope Apple already knows about this glitch.
    Thanks!

I'm only going to tackle one of your issues; that of "recently added" playlists being whacked out when added to iPhones/iPods.
Here's the issue: You set up a smart playlist with a "recently added" criterion. The playlist looks fine in iTunes, and it displays all the recent music you've added to your library properly.
You then sync to your iPhone, and low and behold, all the tracks in that playlist do not match anything that had shown in iTunes. Believe it or not, this is a really old iTune bug. If memory serves me, it goes back to iTunes 6 or maybe earlier.
There are two known work arounds:
    1) you turn off "live updating." This is very poor work around, because most people use a recently added playlist to automagically add their newest music to their device. Turning live updating off defeats the point.
2)create a second smart playlist that points to the first one. What I mean is, if you have a playlist called "Newest 250 tracks" and that is the smart playlist that shows up incorrectly on your iphone, then set up a second smart playlist called "Newest 250 tracks iPhone" and the only criterion in it, is that is populates from playlist "Newest 250 tracks." It will then look identical to your first playlist, but because it doesn't contain a "recently added" criterion in itself, it will avoid the bug. So sync to that second tiered playlist, and all is well.
Yes it's stupid to have to make a second "meta" playlist for every recently added playlist, but c'est la vie.

  • Function keys on new wired keyboard for old iMac don't workdon't work

Apple replaced my original wired keyboard when keys had stopped working, but with the new wired keyboard the function keys don't work as the symbols on them indicate.  My concern is F10-F12 which are supposed to control volume.  F10 shows all open windows; F11 romoves open windowns from screen; F12 shows ttime, date, temperature, etc, like the top button on the mouse.  I have tried suggested ways to fix this through System Preferences, Keyboard/Mouse but none works.
Can anyone solve this problem for me?

I have the exact same problem.  My old keyboard unfortunately died after spilling fluid onto it.
I purchased the same keyboard today.
Everything works with it except I have the same problem as described here:  "

  • No luck with Laserwriter 4/600 and iMac OS X 10.4.8

I read the few previous posts on the same subject (and pretty much same conclusion) as mine:
Apple 4/600 printer into Asante Apple talk box into ethernet into iMac... and nothing. Except a prompt, after resetting my print system: "New Printer Drivers detected. Would you like to reload the (printer) browser?" I click "OK". And nothing happens.
The iMac seems to detect that something is connected, but does not know what to do with it. Do any of you have a clue how I can complete the connection, so that the printer will show up in the print utility browser, and I can actually print something? Best regards,
    PP

My connections are as follows, and please chime in if you find that to be the problem:
round 8-pin miniature plug cable from printer into jack in Asante Talk (which is plugget into AC and has four green LEDs which upon start up do their dance, then settle to steady-on for "PWR and "Li"), Ethernet cable from Asante into Ethernet jack in iMac.
That's all I did. The OSX printer browser has two selectable sections:
Default Printer and IP Printer. I assume (wrongly?) that I stick with the default printer window? Regardless, with modern printers none of this is an issue, as it all shows up and sets up automatically. The Laserprinter interface seems to be the problem
Your further guidance would greatly help me!
    Thanks,
    PP

  • Wired keyboard-number pad&right arrow keys not working-serial # help!

    Hello to whomever reads/replies -
I have a wired keyboard for my iMac(it's not the aluminum imac, but the version before it with the keyboard and mouse that came with it). I got this keyboard June 2007 after the original keyboard sent to me had problems with it with some keys not working properly. And now about a week ago my right arrow key and the zero, decimal point, one, two, three and enter button on the keypad stopped working out of the blue. One night they worked and the next they didn't with nothing being done different, nor was the keyboard stored differently.
I've cleaned the keyboard inside and out twice and tried pushing the little squishy thing under the keys when you pop them off and there's no response with those being pushed either so something's got to be wrong with the keyboard itself.
Also, when I go online to look up the warrenty on this keyboard, #1 i can't find where it tells me where the serial number on the **** WIRED keyboard is, just gives me where i can find it on the WIRELESS keyboards. Ugh. So I looked under my keyboard and punched in the numbers and letters that i found on a little silver plate just below where the wire and USB ports are in the top of the keyboard and I get an 'invalid serial number' error message.
So.. could anyone help me with these problems? I'd really rather not call tech support since it took me over two hours to explain to the man that I spoke with last year about my other keyboard and I just don't have the time! Thanks in advance!
    Sharon

    Hello sharon:
    Welcome to Apple discussions.
Run, don't walk to the phone. Call Applecare and indicate you have a warranty problem. The KB is (or will be shortly) out of warranty. It may take you some time, but it may save you some money in the long run.
Incidentally, it appears to me that your KB is, indeed, broken.

  • Brand New iMac and wired keyboard not working

I just bought a new iMac.The wired keyboard seems to work, the mouse is plugged into the keyboard and that works, and I can, somewhat make changes to the volume and other small changes. The ESC key works (I can turn off VoiceOver)but... I can not even get the computer up and going. I can not put in my name or other registration information.
Any ideas if the keyboard has some kind of other settings that I need to turn off. There is no software or anything else in the Mac that I know of. It is brand new and just arrived today.
    Anyone have any suggestions?

I'm so sorry. I know this a bummer. But better to take it back. When you take it in, if they boot it and get it to work, make sure and shut down the iMac, wait about ten seconds and press the power button. Make sure it boots to the Desktop and that your keyboard functions as it should. Just make absolutely sure it works before you bring it back home. In fact, since you could not get through the registration process, perhaps they will go through that with you since had problems with it. Something isn't communicating between the iMac and the keyboard. Could be the USB ports, software/hardware ... hopefully they'll repair it to your satisfaction or replace it.

  • With a wired keyboard and a 2014 iMac I cannot select multiple items which are not next to each other

I have recently changed from Windows 7 desktop to a new iMac running Mavericks.  I have chosen a wired keyboard as I like  the usual Delete key function.
I cannot find out how to select several items which are not next to each other (e.g. words in Pages).  The well known method in Windows, which is repeated in the the Apple Finder Help screen, does not work.  Would be grateful for advice

    Hi JBowfin,
If I am understanding your question correctly, I believe that I have an article that will address this question for you:

    thank you

    Hi Moe,
Sounds mostly likje a bad KB, do you have another to test with?
    Or...
One way to test is to Safe Boot from the HD, (holding Shift key down at bootup), run Disk Utility in Applications>Utilities, then highlight your drive, click on Repair Permissions, Test for problem in Safe Mode...
PS. Safe boot may stay on the gray radian for a long time, let it go, it's trying to repair the Hard Drive
    Reboot, test again.
If it only does it in Regular Boot, then it could be some hardware problem like Video card, (Quartz is turned off in Safe Mode), or Airport, or some USB or Firewire device, or 3rd party add-on, Check System Preferences>Accounts (Users & Groups in later OSX versions)>Login Items window to see if it or something relevant is listed.
Check the System Preferences>Other Row, for 3rd party Pref Panes.
Also look in these if they exist, some are invisible...

Intel iMac; upgraded adobe flash; bluetooth keyboard no longer pairs but magic mouse still OK. With Bluetooth switched on the screen splits into 4 areas and open windows seperate and shrink. Switch off Bluetooth and problem disappears and iMac works OK with plug-in keyboard and mouse

    Hi, Derek -
...the screen splits into 4 areas and open windows seperate and shrink.
Sounds like Spaces is being activated somehow. With the wired keyboard and mouse in use, select the Exposé & Spaces control pane in System Preferences, click the choice in that pane for Spaces. See what the settings are. There are some activation settings in that pane - by default, F8 activates it.
It could be that the bluetooth keyboard has some stuck keys and is activating Spaces; or that the activation command has somehow been reset to something that the bluetooth mouse, or bluetooth itself, is triggering.

  • No connection between wireless keyboard and IMac

I had to change batteries in my wireless keyboard for my Imac. After that I did not manage to reestablish the connection between the keyboard and the machine. I did not manage to get the blue tooth going again before I went to bed and the session timed out , my IMac is now locked and since my keyboard does not work I am not able to type the password. How can I solve this?

Are the batteries installed properly?  Have you tried other batteries?
Have you read for possible solutions over in the "More Like This" thread over here?----------------------->
Plan B:  It's a good idea to keep a wired keyboard as a standby.  Suggest that you get hold of one.

  • Wired keyboard problem on 27" iMac

27" iMac doesn't find keyboard on startup. I purchased it last August 2013 with a wired keyboard instead of wireless. Since then its happened about 4 times that it will not recognise the keyboard....says theres nothing attached - and its wired!! It seems to fix itself after about an hour (max) but I don't know how?? This is a nightmare as I can't work and its unreliable.

I have this problem also.  I unplug it from my USB port and replug it in and that works.  But I would like to find a permanent fix.
