MS Word Formatting tool for authors: LINK

A while ago there was a thread that the sang blues about writers submitting Word files with local formatting and other such woes. There were two links provided with instructions and even tutorials for authors -- they are as follows:

The following link, to a free download of "Author Tools Template" was just given to me by an editor. It's absolutely amazing. It imports macros and sets up menu items in Word, for handy formatting of docs. It doesn't get anymore how-to than this. Still I suspect there are some brilliant writers out there who will convince themselves this is too complicated. . . sigh.

I wouldn't hold your breath. I created a separate styles menu for one project so that authors didn't even have to click on Word's dropdown menu - they just had to click on one of a few named styles that were always visible (and even had simple icons giving a visual clue to what they did). Still, no one used them, and this was even after they had asked for a template to use.

The mkfs.vfat (mkdosfs) manpage claims it can't make a bootable fat32. True enough, win2k installer sees the partition as unformatted or damaged, and disk checking utils claim lots of bad clusters.
I'm dual-booting ms & Arch. I can use my old win98 fdisk and format tools for the fat32 partition, but isn't there something in Arch that can as well?

No, but I thought fat32 would be more understood by this time.
Since this has been bothering me for quite some time, I think I'm going to look into it myself.
Sometime this fall I'm going to start creating partitions on a spare machine and analyzing the differences between them, possibly writing a tool of my own.
If I have any luck I'll come back to the forums with my findings and hopefully some code.
Might as well drop this one for now.

If you have Acrobat Pro, you can save directly to Word format from within Acrobat by choosing File > Save as Other > Microsoft Word > Word Document.
(It sounds like you may be trying to use the ExportPDF online service, which is separate from Acrobat, and not necessary in your case.)

Hyperlink format changed for all not only new links on page

The button "Use for new links on page" (in German "Für neue Links auf Seite verwenden") on the inspector dialog (hyperlink -> Format) doesn't work. It changes the format of all existing links on the page! Can this be fixed please!

You can print to the Adobe PDF printer, but that only creates links that Acrobat or Reader recognize as such. That is the reason for needing the entire URL on one line. It is not actually an embedded link, but one created by Acrobat on the fly. With OFFICE 2013 you have two choices: 1. create the PDF with the print to Adobe PDF and then add the links in Acrobat so that they are complete or 2. I think the WORD save as PDF or XPS will create the PDF with links, but not sure. If so, that would be the quickest solution for you, but be aware of potential problems with the MS plugin.
Of course, the third option is to upgrade to XI which can be done with AA 9. You will probably not be eligible for a for an upgrade to whatever the next version will be.

Tool for Formating Report

Hi Experts,
In our project we are using two mode for presentation one is broadcasting and second is formating of reports with proper format needed by client .
now for broadcasting of reports we are using SAP portal.
and for Formating we are using a third party tool known as "Cognos 8 IBM .
Now is there any way in SAP BI where I dont have to use third party tool for formating and generating reports? i.e. formating and broadcasting will be done in SAP BI only.

Thanks for sujjesting...but the problem with SAP BI VC KIT is we have to design it from the ground level....for say it will take the data from respirotary connect it with J2EE server and give me the output...though the process is really good and can combine two different buisness senario but my issue is Cognos wat I am using for report format is already a establish tool of the process .....and in the process two ways we are generating report one in in BW and one is in Cognos ,BW report is for Enterprise Portal which all the internal client's are using but Cognos report are being used by end user where company logo and lots of details are getting generated In PDF format. I cannot replace existing BW tool , but wanted to use BI where I can upgrade BW and remove Cognos use....is there any way for that?
and for BI WEB reporting which is much semiliar to BW web reporting ......

Using generic format for database links in ODI Procedures

As in procedure we use

where Staging Database and Target Database are logical schemas which will associate to respective physical schema while execution so the above statement will become as

I just wanted to know if there is any way by which i can apply samethings for Database Links also.
Like if i have statements

can i replace DB links like Target_Database and Staging_Database?

The standard Common User Access (CUA) states that the key F1 will open help. Unfortunatly you cannot associate this key with a help file and topic as you can in other development systems.
On windows systems the behaviour seem to be common with what I have tested with MS Outlook, MS Internet explorer, LV and my favourite Help authouring tool (HAT). All open the default topic of the help file.
On IBMs AS /400, now iSeries, F1 will open a window which depends on the field where the cursor is. On GUI system this is related to the control who has the key focus. If the cursor is outside any field a help window explaining the current screen will be opened.
LV allows you to simulate this using the event structure. Make a event case for "Key up". Look into help for scan codes and how the keys are mapped to the values in this case. This event exists for the VI and for each control/indicator. If you have detected a F1 key you can open the help file with the corresponding topic.
The other way of context sensitiv help is Shift-F1. This works different in different applications. MS Outlook will open a popup window depending on the part where the mouse cursor is. MS IE will open the default topic of the help. My HAT will change the cursor and when you click somewhere you get a corresponding popup window. LV will ignore this key. The best way LV has for that is the "Tip" or "Tip Strip".
I think that NI will not make a new property to VIs and controls containing help file information and to associate the F1 key with that properties because you can connect F1 to a control using Key Navigation. This is another method of providing help. Place a control outside the visible aera and connect it with F1 using key navigation. This way you can open a help file with a topic with the context sensitivity of the window.
Another thing I have to comment is that why will you use HTML files instead of HTML based help (Win98, this is the same help LV uses)? If you have a medium sized application you will have to be careful to deploy a lot of files (more than 30 I would expect, 1 for ech topic and two or three for the frame, navigation and table of contents). You have to take into concern various browsers (4 Versions of MS IE, some versions of Netscape, some versions of Opera) with various versions of JavaScript if you will use a dynamic table of contents. And you will loose such things like Search and Favourites. Win98-Help looks always the same because there is only one viewer installed with every Windows and there are no third party products doing some things different. The only answer I would really accept is you are not on a windows platform.

I'm on Windows XP, Firefox 3.6.25 and Microsoft Word v.7 for Windows 95. Is my old Word version preventing hyperlinking? I've found NO way to do it -- no toolbar link buttons, no hyperlink options when I right-click, or anything. Help?

I had a similar problem trying to install Win7 x64 on my 2009 iMac. I finally copied the entire Boot Camp driver folder from the OS X installation DVD to Windows. Then I went to \drivers\bootcamp64.msi, right-clicked on it and selected Troubleshoot Compatibility. Windows chugged a bit and came up with a dialog that said Try Recommended Settings. Click on that, then Start Program. The Boot Camp installer now worked great.
Give it a shot.

If you need Word, buy it from Microsoft. There is probably a student discount.
You don't need Word or any Microsoft bloatware to read and save Word - readable documents.
There are better alternatives, such as Apple's Pages. It will read and save Word formats.
It's $20. If that's $20 too much you can use OpenOffice (free) or NeoOffice (free). All read and save Word documents.
