MS Word shuts down in my MacBook

Very often, while I am working, MS Word shuts down suddenly.
Recently, a friend told me that removing a file from the program solves the problem.
She solved it.
Can you help me indicating which file it is, and its directory?
Thank you very much in advance,
Sara

  • Shut Down bug reproducable - Macbook appears to shut down when it doesn't

So, I've run into this issue 4x now, and it's the same every single time.
The bug - when you shut down your Macbook, everything appears shutdown, but in reality it's not, your batteries get drained, and a bad day at work ensues.
    How to reproduce the bug.
First - have your macbook running normally.
Connect your external monitor, USB Keyboard, and USB devices.. etc.
Close your Macbook lid to force it to sleep
Turn on your macbook using your external keyboard.
This will allow your external monitor to become the primary screen for your mac - While your macbook stays closed and acts as a desktop.
Now through software methods go and select Shut Down.
The macbook will shut down everything and will appear shut down.
The light will stay on however. So if you open the lid, the macbook won't turn on. Once you close the lid, the light will go away. At this point it time, it really does appear as though the macbook is shut down. But it's not!
And you find this out the morning after you wake up.
-- To get around the issue, you essentially just turn your Macbook back on and shut down again. But it's rather annoying when you're in a rush.

I've been having the same problem - and its not just with the Macbook. I've found several times that I'll go to shutdown my Macbook and the finder, dock, menubar will all vanish - as for shut down - only I'll be left with the wallpaper and spinning sticks. I've left the system for several minutes (5-10) and it still won't shut down so I have to force it to shutdown with the power button. I had exactly the same issue with my 2007 silver iMac the other day. I've also found that my Macbook will appear to shut down and not have done so it drains the battery. I've reset the PRAM on the iMac and still get the issue. Haven't tried with the Macbook I must confess.
I have a local version of iDisk on my desktop and often find they refuse to shutdown even after I've cancelled a sync. I wonder if the problem may lie there?

  • Word shuts down at opening

I've just installed the OS X Mavericks and suddenly I can't open Word. No error appears and it just opens two recent documents for 2 sec and then just shuts down.
    I have tried:
Installed the latest update for Word and restarted my computer.
    I'm using Macbook pro OS X 10.9
    Any suggestions ?

Do you remember what Office version you are using? I recommend you to reinstall the latest update for Office, depending on the version you have on the computer > http://www.microsoft.com/mac/downloads
Also, install the most recent Microsoft Error Reporting version > http://www.microsoft.com/spain/mac/downloads?pid=Mactopia_AddTools&fid=4D37EAC9- 9354-4716-BB21-B06396C8A752 The error you are seeing is because you are using an old Error Reporting version that isn't compatible with Gatekeeper. You can skip that restriction and open it, but it's better to install the latest version

  • Can not shut down late 2011 MacBook Pro and turn it back on again without the hard drive disappearing?

Ok, I have searched for months for an answer to this question to no avail, probably because no one has experienced it before. I am hoping however that you guys can help me figure this one out cause it is driving me nuts! Also, I am not entirely sure what section of the support I should put this under so if I stick it in the wrong place, I apologize.
Right now my problem is very simple. When I turn off my laptop, and then try to turn it back on, my internal hard drive disappears... and I get the blinking folder with a question mark on it. I have figured out something interesting however. I have an install disk with Ubuntu Linux on it. If I boot into that first, then RESTART the laptop, not shut down and turn back on, it reads the internal hard drive just fine and I can boot as if there is nothing wrong.
Second part to the problem... If I allow the laptop in either OSX or Windows to go to sleep (aka shut off the hard drive but the computer remains on), when I attempt to wake it up, I am greeted with the usual log in screen of whichever OS I am in, but is frozen and after a few seconds goes black and restarts the computer to find that... Surprise! The hard drive is gone
I have tried every trick in the book that I can think of, but can not seem to come up with a solution to the problem... I know when the problem happened and if anyone thinks that that will help them figure this out I will type everything I did up till, including the crash that caused this, and my attempted fixes, but I have class right now so only if you guys want it I will type all that out.
What I am currently running is:
    2011 MacBook Pro 13in screen
    4Gb of Ram
    1TB internal Hard Drive
OSX 10.11.whatever the newest update is... just updated the other day again.
Windows 8.1 on BootCamp 5 (yea I know its not supposed to work but it does) again, fully updated
Ubuntu 13.10 (I think? Doesn't really matter, its just an install disk I use to boot the computer)
If there is anything else that you guys need me to provide, I can, just simply ask. I can provide as much info as is necessary.

Sorry it took me so long to write back, But unfortunately this didn't help my issue.
My uncle and I did a lot of tests on this computer and have narrowed down the location of the problem a little bit.
We tried to first reset the SMC and the NVRAM as suggested, but the only thing that did was make the fans run on full tilt for the first session after restarting it for some reason. After that we tried re installing OSX over the OSX that was already on the system (not removing any of the files). This also didn't do anything but make refit stop working. Then we moved onto the next task at hand by removing the hard drive entirely and booting it as an external drive from one of the USB ports... as long as you booted it with the options key held down, it worked perfectly fine. Then we put an alternative hard drive into the computer and installed OSX on that. This time there was no trouble booting anything up. Everything seemed to work flawlessly. So we made a backup of my original drive (OSX, Windows, and all) onto an external hard drive and tested booting to it via USB. That again worked perfectly fine and booted right up with no problems. So after that we formatted the original hard drive and reinstated OSX. We then proceeded to transfer all the old files from the backup onto this new installation and LOW AND BEHOLD..... we were back to square one with it refusing to recognize the hard drive again.
So this basically told us that there appears to be something either wrong with the hard drive, or something got really screwed up in the software along the lines and by me copying all my old files back over, I just ended up bringing the screwed up file back over with it! (despite not copying over any settings of any kind) So I am still extremely confused as to what is going wrong... did some boot sector possibly get screwed up may be?

  • Long shut-down time on MacBook Pro Retina 2013

I have my MacBook Pro Retina, with Mavericks running. It's the latest MBP Retina from Apple. Brand new, with all updates from Apple (Mavericks 10.9.1). I disconnected all USB-devices etc. But the shut-down and restart time is way to long. I measured about 48 seconds. The spinning wheel (which shows at the shut-down) moves really slow. I have done PRAM-reset and also used the Disk Utility to repair permissions. Nothing helped, so I wonder, what could it be? I checked here in the ASC other thread concerning the same problems, but with older MacBook Pro Retina models and OS X prior to Mavericks. So seems, this issue is still consistent… Appreciate any help and also eventually Apple could investi

Also I investigated a little bit with the Console app. When shutting down, the Mac tries to access some read and write privileges, but can't do that. This problem seems to have something to do with the Sandbox…
    29.12.13 01:04:22,000 kernel[0]: Sandbox: xcscredd(138) deny file-read-metadata /Users
So who knows that and what ist the xcscredd(138) app and why does it try to access my Users folder?

  • Slow Shut Down Time For Macbook Pro Retina Snow Leapord

Hello, I was hoping somoene could help me with the following problems.
I have brand new Macbook Pro Retina, 15inch, 16G RAM, 500G of SSD, running Mountain Lion, and lots of professional recording software. My macbook frequently shuts down after 30 seconds, that wonderful grey wheel spinning in the center of the screen as if it were an old PC.
I've contacted apple frequently. They check to see that I've repaired disk permission, they reset...the RAM i believe, they ask if i shut down all the programs. Even through doing all of this, usually my macbook takes 30 seconds to shut down. Sometimes it takes only 5, which is how it usually should be. ANd this occurence seems to be inconsistent with the apps I use. Sometimes it takes long to shutdown when i've barely used a thing. Other times it shuts down immediately when i've used a lot of different programs at once. So there's no constant.
The apple boys suggest reformatting the computer to make sure it isn't a hardware issue. I refuse to accept that after only 3 months of use I already have to reformat everything. It's not the most enjoyable experience because I'd have to reinstal all my audio software despite Time Machine's magic tricks. Any suggestions?
Here is a link I've found on the matter: http://thecustomizewindows.com/2013/02/fix-mountain-lion-slow-shut-down-time/

These terminal commands decrease the excecution time of a process that has caused slow shutdown times for many users. This resolved my slow shutdowns. IF you are comfortable using terminal you can give them a shot, but be VERY careful using terminal.
These terminal commands should also fix the problem then and kill the services after 2 seconds:
    Code:
sudo launchctl unload /System/Library/LaunchDaemons/com.apple.coreservices.appleevents.plist  sudo defaults write /System/Library/LaunchDaemons/com.apple.coreservices.appleevents ExitTimeOut -int 2  sudo launchctl load /System/Library/LaunchDaemons/com.apple.coreservices.appleevents.plist

  • Word shuts down

My computer started running slowly.  A few days later Word started shutting down when I tried to save a file or when I attached a file to an email message.  A few months ago I problems when I upgraded to Snow Leopard. • Can Apple shut down a stolen Macbook?

My 13 inch Macbook was stolen and I wanted to know if there was any way to shut down the laptop. I dont have the serial number as I purchased it a long time ago.

No. If you did not have Find My Computer installed and configured, then there is no way to locate it.

  • Plugging in my Firewire 800 Drive Shuts down power on Macbook

I plug in my G Drive Mobile 500GB drive (Bought at the Apple Store) And the moment the metal of the Firewire 800 drive hits the metal of my connector it cuts all power and the Computer shuts down. I can keep the Firewire in the computer and start it back up but it wont recognize.
For the record the drive works completely fine with just USB... Also my Apogee Ensemble works perfectly well in the Firewire 800 port.
Any idea what I should do?

Me three. EZQuest Monsoon 250 Gig hard drive, and I've done a tiny bit more troubleshooting: it happens whether the hard drive is turned on or not (haven't had a chance to try it when the drive isn't even plugged in), and it doesn't make any difference which end of the Firewire cable I plug in first: as soon as the connection is complete, the MacBook shuts down. After the shutdown, it doesn't think it has a battery, but most of the time this resolves itself after a couple of restarts. I haven't tried things like zapping the PRAM. Very annoying, since the hard drive is my primary backup, and I plug it in to my Mac every evening when I get home! I'll just have to shut the Mac down every time I leave work, I guess.

  • Unexpected Shut down when moving macbook pro on my 'lap'

In the last month or so, I've been suffering from an unexpected shut down of my mac book pro - which is quite annoying.
The issue seems to be (and it is reproducable) that after a few minutes (or seconds sometimes) of moving my mac from a flat surface (e.g. a coffee table) onto my 'lap' the computer just shuts down (no warning).
I can reproduce this by holding my mac in both hands above my lap and rotating away from me (i.e. screen closer and keyboard futher away)....
After some googling, I think this could be related to the sudden movement sensor (and a suggestion was to reset my smc by doing shift-ctrl-option-powerbutton when the mac was powered down).  But this hasn't worked.
    Anyone experienced similar issues?
I'm using a 17inch early 2011 mac book pro, running OS X 10.8.3 with the latest software updates installed.
It doesn't seem to matter what I'm doing, i.e. watching videos, writing emails, using lightroom, photoshop.
I wonder if this is related to any recent udpdate?
    Thanks
    Ioant

Back up all data on the internal drive(s) before you hand over your computer to anyone. If privacy is a concern, erase the data partition(s) with the option to write zeros* (do this only if you have at least two complete, independent backups, and you know how to restore to an empty drive from any of them.) Don’t erase the recovery partition, if present.

  • Fail to Shut Down or Restart Macbook Pro

So I don't know if this has to do with Mavericks or just my Mac in general, but my mouse is constantly a spinning color wheel when on my homescreen. It won't let me open finer either, and when I do try to restart my computer it says finder is still running operations and to stop them before restarting. I have exited out of finder, tried quitting everything, but it still won't even shut down.

This what I would start with:  First a SMC and PRAM resets:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ht3964
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1379
    Then a Safe Boot:

  • Why does my MacBook Air's shutting down slow down after the recent update?

After the newly update OS X Update 10.9.4, the shut down of my MacBook Air slows down. It will stay several seconds more than before the update. This happens every time I try to shut down my MacBook, please meet my problem.

A Safe Mode boot deletes some system caches that may help.
Startup your Mac in Safe Mode
A Safe Mode boot takes much longer than a normal boot so be patient.
Once you are in Safe Mode, click Restart from the Apple () menu.
Once your Mac has booted to the desktop, click Shut Down from the Apple () menu to test.

  • MacBook Pro 17-inch shuts down randomly

    Hi Melophage,
We've communicated together for sometime with regard to a problem I had with the length of opening my MacBook Pro and thanks to your advice that problem has been solved.
The other problem I had was the shut down of my MacBook Pro at random.
You suggested that I use the grey Applications Install DVD which I finally found in its original box, well put aside! Thanks God.
I tried to follow your instructions carefully and entered the DVD holding down the D key.
On the screen I had "Install Bundled Software.mpkg" but could not find the "Apple Hardware Test" : it never appeared on the screen.
I took about 15 minutes to run and install.
Did I make a mistake somewhere.
    Thanks for your advice.
    Regards
    Claire

    Claire,
to my knowledge, running the AHT does not change anything, so whatever is causing the problem could very well cause the problem in the future. If it happens again, then the problem might be resolved by making a backup of your disk, performing a clean reïnstallation of OS X, and then restoring your data from the backup. But in the meantime, use your MacBook Pro as you normally would, and if the sudden shutdown happens again, the instructions for a clean reïnstallation can be provided then. You would need an external disk to make your backup, if you’re not already making regular backups.

  • Shutting down macbook pro

The shutting down of my macbook at times is hanging or takes long ever since I upgraded the operating system to Lion. I am forced to hold down the on button for some seconds to shut it down manually. What could be the course of this?

    Dear all,
at las I managed to get away with this problem. I found out that I had a problem with one of my RAM.
Now I am lookng at replacing it with a new one soon.
I am using only one 4GB at the moment and the problem is gone and all is workng well now.
Guy who are facing the same problem, better check that your RAM is okay. This could be one of the reasons to your problems.
    Thank you all.
